Club 23 - Chapter VIII - The Updates
So…after everybody was done doing everything for Saturday, Flynn proposes to the group to meet him at the park. One by one the members of the group come, and Flynn for some reason comes and stands next to a tree and stands there…ominously like some sort of supervillain. Nobody notices until Phoebus talks and says something.
"Um…bud, what are you doing just standing like that", Phoebus says puzzled, "It looks like your planning for world domination or something" he continues and that gets a chuckle out of everybody, Flynn then breaks his silence
"Honestly, I don't know", he speaks, "And I honestly don't know why I brought you guys to park in the first place" he continues
"Maybe we just needed the outside world after being locked in yesterday", said Megara
"You know, it wasn't what I was going for, but yeah, great excuse!"
"Speaking of yesterday" chimes Aladdin, "How was it for you four", he looks in the direction of Pocahontas, Quasimodo, Esmeralda, and Phoebus. Quasimodo speaks first
"Yesterday was pretty good to us", glances at Pocahontas that nods in approval, "We took in the pretty sights that were all around us, man you should've been there, we even saw Belle and Ariel at some booths
"Really!?" chimed Esmeralda with excitement, "I haven't seen her in a while, how'd she been?"
"She's doing great from what I can tell", says Pocahontas, "Such a joy to talk with her about things and yeah like Quasi said, everything went great", she continued trying to put a fake smile
Esmeralda now looks confused, "Are you sure?"
"Yep I'm sure…very, very sure"
There's a little silence between the group, Quasimodo decides to break that
"So Phoebs, how was the gym?"
"Oh…right, the gym…you know man, the gym was the gym", he said with some uncertainty, "Isn't that right Esme"
"Oh yes, very right indeed, we were getting our sweat on"
"Well it sounds like you two had a great time working out", said Quasi
If it were only two…", said Phoebus
"What was that Phoebus?"
"I said if there were only true, because man my legs were killing me after that workout", he said with Esmeralda giving him a highly suspicious look
"Okay", said Quasimodo, "What was interesting about your Saturday, he looks in the direction of Aladdin, Megara, and Flynn.
"I mean what can you say", said Megara, "It was just popcorn, movies, and sleep, all in that order over and over again"
"Sounds…fun", said Quasi sarcastically
"I mean I got a Facetime call with Jasmine", chimes Aladdin
"Ooh, how did that go", says Quasimodo
"It went great, we chatted, laughed, and in that order repeatedly, literally the highlight of my Saturday"
"That's great to hear," said Quasi cheerfully
Everybody stands in silence again, until Phoebus breaks it this time
"So…what do we do now?", says Phoebus with Flynn gives him and the group the answer
"Well…we go home"
"What do you mean 'go home", says Megara
"It means we go back to our place of residence where we all sleep and do our daily activities privately"
"But can't we stay here for a while?", chimes Aladdin, "I mean after yesterday, I really need this, I mean look, everything so…so peaceful and calming"
"He does have a point", says Pocahontas and others agree
"Alright, we can stay here a little longer, just don't drift off to oblivion, okay"
"Okay", they all say unanimously
"I need to talk to you", said Esmeralda to Pocahontas
"And I need to talk to you", said Quasimodo to Phoebus
Esmeralda and Pocahontas are going one way talking, while Quasimodo and Phoebus are going in a different direction having a conversation, which leaves once again the trio of Aladdin, Megara, and Flynn.
"Welp looks like it's us three again…", says Flynn, meanwhile Esmeralda finds somewhere to walk and talk with Pocahontas
"Okay, glad we're somewhere private", said Esmeralda, "Now when you were talking about the festival, which was yesterday, you had put on this fake smile"
"Fake smile?... What fake smile?", said Pocahontas, acting confused. This prompts Esmeralda to put her hands on her hips and shake her head sideways
"Poca…Poca…Poca, you can't fool me, girl, I have been your friend for a while now, I know something up, just tell me what happened at the festival"
"Esme!, nothing happened at the festival"
"Poca, don't lie to me, I know a fishy situation, did someone do something bad to you, was it Quasi, I mean I know I'm his BFF, but if he did…"
"Esmeralda no!", said Pocahontas, forcing Esmeralda to stop talking, "Quasimodo didn't do anything to me, come on he's not like that. In fact, nobody did anything to me…it was someone I saw" She then speaks to a softer and softer tone, Esmeralda then speaks in this exact same tone
"Oh…really, who was it that you saw?"
"You promise not to tell unless I give you permission…right?"
"I promise unless you give me permission"
Pocahontas takes a deep breath and says the name
"John"
Esmeralda's eyes shoot right open, her reaction is as if she saw an inanimate object grow a pair of arms and legs and had a full-on conversation with her
"What…the…hell, really?"
"Yes really"
"I haven't seen John in since…well forever", said Esmeralda, still flabbergasted, "How is he, if you mind me asking"
"I don't and for the most part he seems to be doing good for himself"
"Why do you think he was there at the festival?"
"That's the part I don't know, maybe it's because it sparked his interest or he knew I was going to be there. He says that he didn't know if I was going or not"
"Did he peep Quasi?"
"I don't think so, Quasi asked if I need him and I told him I could handle it"
"What was the main point of the conversation?"
"He said that he didn't want us to be bitter towards each other and that we should be at least friends"
"Well…"
"I'm still processing everything, but I think he could be on to something, I mean ever since the breakup we have been interacting as strangers, aliens from different planets. I don't want that and it seems he doesn't want it either"
Esmeralda sits Pocahontas down and tells her this, "Well, when your ready to talk, talk and try to enjoy each other's company"
"Easier said than done"
Esmeralda leans in to hug Pocahontas and says, "Well, I know you're the person that can make it done" Meanwhile on the other side, Phoebus and Quasimodo are having their own conversation about the gym.
"I'm going, to be honest man, that workout wasn't the only thing that was stressing you at the gym", said Quasimodo
"Dammit, how did you know", responded Phoebus
"Pheobs, when you drop that hint of uncertainty in your voice, I know something up, spill the beans"
"Alright, my friend, beans are about to be spilled, Your best friend, who was working out with your best friend, which just so happens to be your best friend's love interest, had Naveen come and join the workout"
"What!", said Quasimodo, "Wait…why?"
"Well, Apparently on Saturdays at the same time that me and Esme planned to workout, that's when Naveen usually shows up"
"Huh", is all Quasimodo can say
"Here's the thing though", says Phoebus, unhinged a little sounding like a conspiracy theorist, "Esmeralda was wearing the shortest shorts, I have ever seen a girl wear, I mean you can completely see at the same time her thigh and calf muscles"
Quasimodo now thinks of Esmeralda in that outfit but then realizes that it is wrong of him to think of her in that light, "Wow" is what he can say after the thought, and Phoebus continues
"Then they were flirting, like through their exercises, I mean it was like the weirdest thing I've seen all week" Phoebus then takes a seat on the bench
"Hey man, cheer up, I mean this whole situation can't be that bad," said Quasimodo trying to cheer up his friend
"Thanks for trying to be hopeful, but I don't know what to do at this point now, it's like a ran out of ideas"
"I mean look at the bright side of things, she's not gone, man, she really digs your personality, plus she really laughs at your jokes man"
"Well the thing is Quasi, I'm situational funny, and he…well he's just funny all the time"
"Pheobs, I telling you, don't give up yet, there is still time, hey," says Quasimodo that comes up with a plan to cheer his friend, "How about we go after the park to get some pineapple soft serve, just like old times…my treat"
Phoebus now has a smile on his face, "You know what, I like that" Phoebus and Quasimodo get up from the benches to walk around the park again. Meanwhile, Aladdin, Megara, and Flynn are having some conversations…again
"So…some night last night, huh?", Flynn opens up first
"Yeah, a night of doing absolutely nothing", Megara chimes in
"If that ever happens again, we need to have plans in place", said Aladdin, "So, who has a plan"
"I do!", says Flynn ecstatically
"Go for it, Flynn"
"We get one of those conversation board games that ask us very risque questions that are like too much to handle"
"Or party games", Megara chimes in
"Ooh…party games, like that suggestion Meg, anything else?" Aladdin says
"Build a fort!", says Flynn
"Wait…what are we six", says Megara
"I know it may sound dumb, but's interesting", said Aladdin
"Thanks"
"No worries, Meg, you got another suggestion"
"It may sound boring to the both of you, but I'm going to say it anyway, books"
"Okay, books, what type of books though", says Flynn
"Fun books, you know books with a ton of shit that don't make any sense"
"Hmm…okay, something interesting, I like it", says Aladdin
The three of them went like that for hours and hours. Eventually, it started to get dark, so they decided to go home and get some sleep so they can work on assignments for the rest of the week. They all met at the meeting spot of the park, said their goodbyes, and walked on their own separate paths, waiting for the days ahead. Some updates…huh.
