Club 23 - Chapter XXI - The Questions
After the group and their dates celebrate Phoebus and Esmeralda going out to the Formal, she quickly rushes over to Flynn to talk for a brief moment
"Flynn…Flynn…wait up", she said rushing over to him
"Woah, woah, slow down Esme…what's up," he says
"You know what's up?"
"Right, I do know what's up?", he ponders, "What is up?"
Esmeralda shakes Flynn by his arms, making him remember what happened just now
"Oh yeah, I do know what's up…I WASN'T EXPECTING THAT!", he yelled and it was his turn to shake her by the arms
"Okay, that's enough!"
"Yeah, you're probably right"
"Anyway…I am losing focus on the conversation that we're going to have"
"Which is?" he says confused
"Phoebus asking me to the Formal"
"Okay…now I know I'm not the best at memory, but didn't you just say yes to him," he says puzzled
"Yes, yes I did Flynn…I did say yes"
"Okay…what's the problem?" Flynn is more confused than ever
"The problem is…" she pauses and she looks down to the floor
Esmeralda pauses for a good while and now at this point Flynn is starting to get concerned for his friend
"Esmeralda…are you okay?"
She looks up at him, smiling, making sure that everything is okay with her, she then goes up and speaks to him
"Flynn it's just…I don't know if I…" she takes another pause
"Don't know what?"
"I don't know if I can go out with him"
"Wait…what?" Flynn looks at Esmeralda with shock
"I don't know if I can go out with him" she repeats herself
"Why though, it's not because you're still in love with Naveen…is it?"
Esmeralda chuckles at the question, "It's not because of that Flynn, plus I wasn't really in love with him, we were just flirting back in forth"
"Oh", says Flynn pausing slightly, "Then what's the real reason?" he now ponders
"Flynn…you, me, Phoebus, were friends for years before Ali, Quasi, Poca, and Meg came along, and I don't wanna ruin that friendship that we built for so long"
"True, but haven't you developed some feelings about him, though?"
"Yes…no…but yes…but then no…but then yes again, dammit Flynn, why you'd have to bring that up?", she says slightly annoyed
"Sorry, but am I wrong?"
She sighs, "No…you're not"
"Hmm, that's what I suspected," he says gloating a little bit, before getting back to being serious, "Why don't you pull him away and talk with him?"
"Easier said than done, what will I say to him, 'Hey I don't know if I want to be your date because I have complicated feelings for you'"
"Um, maybe not", Flynn sarcastically suggested, "Just talk with him and see how it goes"
"Okay, I'll try"
"By the way…remember when I asked him those questions about who he was going to ask out?"
"Umm…yeah, I do sorta, those were some unusual responses"
"Like the answer for your favorite color"
"Yeah, he said two…red and blue…which is odd because my favorite color is…"
"Purple!", Flynn interjected, "sorry, don't know why I screamed that" Esmeralda slightly chuckles
"It's fine", she gives Phoebus's answer some thought and suddenly a light bulb goes off in her head "Oh my God, Flynnie!" she exclaims as she just figured out something really simple
"Why with my mom's nickname" he cries out
"Don't be such a big baby about it…anyway, it's either we're the worst detectives in the world or we need to go back and learn how colors work"
"Umm…neither", he says bluntly
"Red plus blue makes purple" Flynn palms his forehead, "Oh, of course, maybe I do need to relearn how colors work"
"And, what about the question about eye color?"
"Yeah…he said that your eyes were the color of Christmas"
"What are the two main Christmas colors?" Esmeralda at this point is practically quizzing him, but he still answers
"Red and…Oh my goodness…Green, which is your eye color"
"Exactly!", she exclaims until she remembers one certain question, "Hey wait a minute, why did you ask if she was curvaceous?", she then gives Flynn, I mean mugging look
"Hey, hey, hey now", says Flynn slightly scared of his friend, "First off…hard hitting question, secondly…I didn't know what he was talking about you, thirdly…do you remember what answer he gave me"
Esmeralda tried to think and think until the answer hit her in the face, "He says that he tries to focus on external and internal beauty", when she said the answer out loud she started to blush a little, Flynn noticed this and tried to get her attention
"Um, Esmeralda…Esmeralda hello, Earth to Esmeralda", he waves his hand in front of her face and finally gets her attention
"Hello, Flynn, are you still there, how long was I like that?"
"Umm…not long, but long"
"Uhh…makes sense," she says not questing it
"Anyway, speaking on the questions…why did you help me in the 'investigation'?"
"Because I wanted Phoebus to feel happy for this year's Formal, you know, he's changed, he's a great guy and he deserves to have a good night, and the world"
"And, you can't give it to him?"
"Oh, you know I can show a person I good time," she says slightly angry
"Sorry…again, didn't mean to offend you"
Esmeralda calms down, "I know you didn't, I'm sorry to you for getting that way, but I don't know if I can do that, it just feels weird that it's my friend, you know"
"I understand, yes"
"I mean the only boy out of this group I had some sort of relationship with was with Quasi"
"Speaking about that, how was that?" he says interested because it piqued his interest
Esmeralda chuckles slightly, "He was actually quite sweet, I remember when I kissed him, well pecked him actually, that was the true start of it all"
"Oh" is all Flynn can say and she continued
"We only went on one date, it was to the movies, it was nice spending those two weeks with him through"
"Wait…two weeks! The rumor mill said only one week"
She smiled, "Well, don't believe everything you hear in the rumor mill, you know they are starting to get a little lackluster with their research, anyway we mutually decided that we work better as friends, and look at him now, he found himself a cutie in Madellaine"
"Yeah good for him", Flynn thought out loud, "Remember when I told you I liked Rapunzel"
"Yep"
"Wanna hear the story, of when we met"
"Oh please tell", Esmeralda sounding interested as Flynn told the story
"Well, it all started with a young Flynn Rider, sophomore Flynn Rider to be exact, he was on the rare occasion, walking out of a classroom"
Esmeralda snickered and he continued the story
"When out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a blonde girl wearing a pink blouse some blue jeans, and pink shoes to match with the longest hair that he saw, like it was practically on the floor, it was amazing to look at. Anyway, he takes a look at her face and sees that she is so…so…so beautiful, he needs to introduce himself to her. Lunch comes and she is sitting with her friend, named Jasmine, when Rider approaches, what will she say, will she back away, will she not talk to him, he makes his way to her table"
"I need some popcorn", Esmeralda says to herself and Flynn continues
"'Um…hello', the young lad says as he approaches the girl, 'My name is Flynn, Flynn Rider'."
"After he said that, he awaits the response, at first she's hesitant, but she sees this as an opportunity to make some friends, 'Um…hi, Flynn, my name is Rapunzel' she says nervously."
"'Rapunzel, interesting name…but I like it, it's unique. 'Thanks', she says smiling, 'Would you
like to sit with us for lunch?'. "
'Um, I'm good, I was sitting with the rest of my friends, but hopefully I can catch you in the hallway.'"
"She continues to smile at him and says, 'Well, that's alright, nice meeting you'."
"'Yeah you too', she says and he returns to the rest of his friends, and the rest is history"
Esmeralda then applauds her friend, "Wow…incredible"
"Thank you," he says humbly, "Anyway, I gotta get going, I'm going to ask Tiana if we could have the band at the Formal"
"OK cool, when can we rehearse"
"Umm…anytime, just pop into my house"
"Okay"
"Just remember what I said about talking to Phoebus, see ya"
"See ya", she responds back and they walk their separate ways, "Yeah…talking to Phoebus, where is he anyway?"
Meanwhile, Phoebus is walking pretty confidently after successfully asking Esmeralda out, out of nowhere, he meets Naveen in the hallway
"Ah, Phoebus, shall we have…a chat", he says
Phoebus sighs, but he accepts Naveen's offer
"Sure, what do you wanna talk about"
Interesting...what's gonna happen with that conversation between Phoebus and Naveen?
