Pilot, Part 1
Casey Home – October 9, 2012
The look on her husband's face was one which she rarely sees, even when they're in the toughest of situations: one of fear. After all, her husband is a firefighter; correction, he's a fire captain. More specifically, her husband is Captain Matthew Casey, head of Firehouse 51 at the Chicago Fire Department. And when you define the type of firefighter he is, you can define him as a brave firefighter with his own personal issues: ones that come with his hard past, one that his wife Gabriela Dawson-Casey is all too aware of. And that's why she was so surprised at the moment: surprised that he was even showing her this type of fear, due to the fact that he runs into buildings on a daily basis. And that's when she knew, she needed to say something before he clammed up and didn't feel like speaking to her; something he did sometimes when he has a lot on his mind, just like he did right now as he looked over the documents he had on their kitchen table…which she was trying to set with their supper this evening. In fact, that was how she got his attention.
She got his attention by trying to set the salad she just made for the both of them on his papers, which he had to fill out ahead of their shift tomorrow. Yes, their shift; after all, she's a member of the Chicago Fire Department as well. And while she isn't a firefighter (like her handsome husband), she is a paramedic and an officer like he is. She's the paramedic-in-chief (or head paramedic) on Ambulance 61, which is based out of the same firehouse which her husband is the captain in. The team in which he leads into fires as it's captain, though he's mainly in charge of Truck 81…the apparatus which he rides on every day alongside his best friend (and fellow firefighter) Andrew Darden, firefighter Randall "Mouch" McHolland, firefighter (and driver) Joe Cruz, and another new firefighter; a firefighter who's name she doesn't know yet. That was, until she looked at the paperwork that her husband was working on. "Peter Mills. Is that the name of the guy who's joining truck to replace Otis?" Otis being one of their fallen friends, who just died a month earlier.
And let's just say that it's brought some tensions in the firehouse whenever they got together, something which she just knew based on her husband's face he was worried about. "Yeah. He's a new guy, fresh out of the academy." Agreeing with her husband of ten months, the two of them having gotten married on December 3rd last year. "Well, I hope he's cute. We need some fresh hunks at the firehouse. Some of the hunks are getting old." Gabby said, walking away to go get them some drinks. Meanwhile, her husband turned to look at her as he was not too pleased when he heard Gabby say that. "Excuse me!" Gabby laughed as she heard Matt say that. "Oh, so that gets your attention, now does it?" Matt agreed with his wife as she said that as it most certainly does get his attention. "Yes, yes it does. I know that you work with firefighters all the time. But, last time I checked, you're a married woman Ms. Casey." Gabby agreed with her husband, as she most certainly is a married woman. And she loves being his married woman. "Oh, yes I am."
Gabby said, smiling as she made her way back over to the table where Matt was working and set their pasta supper down on the table. After which, she moved her hand to the back of his head and smirked as she leaned in and kissed the man of her dreams softly. "I love you." Matt agreed with his wife as he placed his hand on her face, as he loves her too. "I love you too." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case. "And that's why you have nothing to worry about. We both love each other, and we both know that we want to be with each other for the rest of our lives. So, for you to even be jealous is not appropriate considering you're my husband." Matt agreed with his wife, well aware that was the case as he watched her sit down next to him at the table. "Listen, there's food here. If you want, I can serve us both. But, you need to do me something." Matt smiled as Gabby said that, thinking she meant a promise for later. "Is it us trying for a baby later?" Gabby laughed, as that sounded fun. "Oh, that sounds fun. But, I mean your papers here."
Looking down, Matt realized that she was talking about the papers he had sprawled all over the dinning room table: the papers which could easily get dirty, which was the last thing that he wanted to have happen if he needed to turn them into the office at the end of shift tomorrow. "Oh." Gabby agreed with her husband. "Oh, is right. Can you please get them away? I already made us some pasta, and I don't want it to get all over those papers. Then, you may get in trouble, and it might cause a fight between us." Sighing, Matt looked at the woman he loves who he's had a short temper with of late. And that's why he went ahead and grabbed her hand. "Listen, do you want to talk about that? I know that I've been a bit distant lately. And I want to fix things between us, I hope you know that." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware of the fact that he wants to fix things between them. "I know baby. And I promise, us talking is going to work. And you putting your papers away will too." Matt agreed with Gabby. "Maybe some wine after dinner?"
Smirking, Gabby agreed with her husband as that sounds perfect. "Oh, yes please." Matt smirked as he proceeded to collect his papers that were sprawled all over the table, only to put them in his folio which he could easily put away. After which, he got up and smirked as he looked down into his gorgeous wife's eyes. "God, those eyes of yours." Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that, while also feeling him move his hand to the back of her head. After which, she watched as he leaned in and kissed her softly this evening. "I love you, and I'm sorry for being so distant." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware that he was sorry for being distant; he always is. "I know baby. And I promise that things will work out. You just need to remember that you aren't alone in this, and that we can work through things together." Matt agreed with his wife, as that most certainly is the truth. So, he pressed his lips to her forehead and smiled as that's precisely what he plans on doing with the woman he loves: working things through with her. "Let me put this away."
Gabby agreed with her husband, as that's precisely what she wants him to do: she wants him to put his folio away so that they can be together and just spend some time with each other. "I want to spend some time with you, in bed maybe." Matt smirked as he walked away to the door, especially since he wants the same thing as her: to spend some quality time in bed with her. "Tonight. I want some time with you, ahead of us going back to work." Gabby laughed as Matt said that, as she wanted the same thing. "Believe me, that's what I want too Matt. I want to spend some time with you, as we need to just take it easy for a bit." Matt agreed with his wife, more than ready to do just that. "Can't wait." Gabby said, smiling over the fact that she just loves that man so much. She loves him more than anything and falls more in love with him each and every day; and someday, she hopes to make him a father. But right now, they just need to take it easy and relax since she knew that he was a bit stressed right now. Stressed over the future of the firehouse.
She could see that the food and wine were working, as her husband was much more mellow and relaxed as he ate supper compared to how he was before; when he was still working on the papers he had out in front of him. And to say that Gabby was happy that he was so mellow at the moment was an understatement, as she's been worried about him and his mental health for a while now. And that's precisely where Gabby decided to start this conversation: just how worried she's been for her husband, and how she feels like he needs to take it easy right now. How he needs to relax and concentrate on what matters at the end of the day: what he can control, his mental health, and their life as husband and wife. She's seen some problems in the firehouse lately in the aftermath of their friends' death, including some between his best friend (Andy) and his wife, Heather. But, the last thing she wants is for that to happen to them. And that's precisely what Gabby was ready to talk to her husband about as she set her fork and spoon down.
"So, listen. While we're sitting here and eating, I was hoping to talk to you about something." Turning his head, Matt agreed with his wife as they most certainly can talk about something if she feels like they need to. "Of course. What is it babe?" Gabby sighed as Matt asked her that question. "I want to talk to you about how you are, how you've been a bit distant lately…" Matt sighed, well aware of what she was talking about. "Matt, I get it. I know that you have a lot on your mind right now. You have work to do as a Captain, work to do for the firehouse, for Truck 81…but, I guess I'm thinking about other things." Listening to his wife, Matt was a bit confused as to just WHAT she was talking about at the moment. "And what might that be, babe?" Taking a breath, Gabby looked at the man she loves more than anything in the entire world. The man she wants to have a family with (in the future). But, for now, she's okay with them taking it easy and just relaxing. "Matt, you're stressed all the time, and you worry about a lot of little things right now."
Matt agreed with his wife. "And you aren't talking to me. When I say that I'm here if you need me, I don't just mean to take care of you, to make you food and things. I mean that I'm here to talk if you need to talk. I know that you have a lot going on in your head, and I want you to make sure to talk to me if you're dealing with things." Matt agreed with his wife, while also proceeding to move his hand to the back of her head; something that Gabby loves the feeling of as they both just sat together at the moment. After which, she smiled as she felt Matt's soft lips on hers. "Baby. I mean it when I say that I want to help you, but you need to tell me how I can help you. You need to talk to me and just let me know what's going on right now. Please, Matt. Let me be there for you." Matt agreed with his wife, as that's something he can do for her. He can make sure to talk to her, so that she knows that everything is okay with him. "I promise, everything is okay right now. And yes, we can talk. We can talk whenever we need to." Gabby agreed with Matt.
After which, she proceeded to get up out of her seat, only to move into his lap and cuddle up to the man of her dreams. Meanwhile, Matt wrapped his arms around her and just smiled over how gorgeous his wife is, which led to Gabby wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning in to kiss him softly. "I love you Matt, forever." Matt agreed with his wife and smiled about how much he truly loves her. After which, he brought her body against his chest and smirked about how much he's going to want her after supper. And that's precisely why he leaned in and started to kiss her neck, while also running his hands up her back. "God, I hope you know that this is just the preview when it comes to what I want after supper." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware that he's going to want her in bed after supper; something she's more than ready for. "Believe me, that's precisely what I want Matt. I want to have you in bed." Matt smirked as Gabby said that, only to lean in and kiss the woman he loves softly. "Let's eat first, then you can get what you want."
Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, smirking as she got up out of his lap. After which, she walked away so that she could sit back down in her seat, where her supper was waiting for her. That way, they could get the romance on the road. "By the way, thanks for getting me out of those reports." Grabbing her fork, Gabby agreed with Matt. "Hey, I knew that was what you needed Matt. I knew that you needed to stop working right now, as you instead needed to concentrate on your mental health. You working all the time is the last thing you need, when you instead need to concentrate on your health." Matt smirked as he reached over and grabbed his wife's hand, prior to stroking it and just showing her how much she truly means to him. "You know you mean the world to me, right?" Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware that she means the world to him. "I already know that Matt, as I feel the same about you. God, you should see how annoyed Shay is with me at the end of every shift." Matt smirked as he heard Gabby say that.
After all, he knows very well that she always brags about how good their sex life is to her best friend. "Sorry you haven't been able to brag to her for a while." Gabby shook her head, as it was more than okay with her that they haven't had sex in a while. "Hey, look at me baby." Looking up at Gabby as he took a bite of his pasta, Matt smiled. "Matt, the last thing I want is to make love when you aren't thinking about me. I know that you've been thinking about other things right now, which is why I didn't push. But, I'm sorry. I can only last so long without getting any attention from my husband. I think it's well past time that we go for a round or two." Matt smiled as Gabby said that. "That way, we can resume our quest to start a family." Gabby smiled as Matt said that, as that's something she wants more than anything: to start a family with the man she loves. "How about first, we concentrate on just taking it easy. The two of us and seeing what happens. We both know that you need to relax right now and just take it easy." Matt agreed with his wife, smiling.
After all, she knows him best. And if she says that he needs to take it easy right now and just relax, then he'll believe her. But, that doesn't mean that he isn't going to try and get her in bed. It's what he wants more than anything. Hell, it's what she wants more than anything and he already knows that. He knows that she wants to feel him take things nice and slow with her in bed, which is what he wants to do so that he can get out of this mindset. He wants to change his thoughts ahead of tonight. "I think that us going for it may be a good idea, as it may change my mind ahead of work tomorrow." Looking at Matt, Gabby agreed with the man she loves prior to reaching out for his hand. Stroking it with her thumb, Gabby smiled and nodded as that made sense. It made sense to her that he was going to want to take his time with her, while they took it easy in bed. So, that's precisely what the two of them are going to do tonight. They're going to take it nice and easy with each other, as they hold each other in bed and make sure that they relax.
Gabby was the last person who was going to be doing the dishes tonight, not when she made the delicious supper that they just enjoyed; though she thought otherwise as she stood at the sink. Then again, when Matt thought about it, that was the perfect spot for him to tell his wife that she was not going to be doing the dishes tonight. So, he made his way right over to her with the last of the dishes; only to set them down in the sink and wrap his arms around his gorgeous wife. After which, he placed his hands on her legs and smiled as he tugged her body back against his chest. Bending down, he just smiled as he went to suck on her neck like Gabby wanted him to. "Oh, damn." Smirking as he sucked on his wife's neck, Matt agreed as he knew just how much she enjoyed this. "I am telling you right now Ms. Casey. You already made supper for the both of us, so you better believe that the last thing you're doing is doing the dishes." Gabby smiled as Matt said that, as she loves the sound of that. The sound of him doing the dishes for her.
But first, she wants to do something else: share a nice kiss with her husband. So, she turned around in his arms and smirked as she stepped close to him; only to wrap her arms around his back and smile as she looked up into his eyes. Meanwhile, Matt placed his hands on her neck and just smirked as he started to take things nice and slow with the woman he loves. The woman he craves more each and every day due to the fact that she's truly the love of his life. There's really nobody in the entire world for him, and he knows that. "I swear, I am such a lucky man, and you have no idea how lucky I feel to be your husband." Gabby agreed with Matt as he told her that, well aware that was the case. "Well, I hope you know that I feel just as lucky to have you as my husband. You're the man of my dreams. My forever." Matt agreed with Gabby as she told him that, only to place his hands on her hips as he started to take things nice and slow with the woman he loves more than anything. "You want to take a bath tonight? I know you like that." Gabby smiled.
After all, she loves the idea; especially since she knows that it'll help him too. "I think that sounds like a great idea, especially since you need it too." Matt smiled, as he most certainly does. "I need to relax in general…" Moving his hand to Gabby's neck, Matt smiled at the woman he loves. "…with the woman I love by my side, helping me like she always does." Gabby agreed with Matt as he told her that, well aware that was the case. And that's precisely why she decided to step close to her husband, while also wrapping her arms around his back; only to lean in and take things nice and slow with the man of her dreams. "I love you, and I am so glad that we have this life together." Matt agreed with Gabby, as he felt the same way; especially since there were times where he thought they wouldn't have this life. "I'm just glad that I made it out of those close calls, especially the last one." Placing her hands on Matt's arms, Gabby agreed with him as she stepped close to him and cuddled up to him; only to wrap her arms around his waist as they held each other.
Meanwhile, Matt wrapped his arms around her as well, only to place his hand on the back of her head and kissing her forehead softly; a feeling which Gabby loves more than anything due to the fact that she loves her husband. She loves the feeling of the two of them holding each other like they are right now, as it truly does calm Matt down and just make him let his guard down. "You can relax baby and just take it easy. I got you, now and forever." Matt agreed with Gabby, well aware that was the case. "I know you do, and I appreciate that. You have no idea how nice it is to have someone to come home to every day. You're the stability I need in my life, especially after my rough past." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware of just how hard he's had it; between the abuse that he had to deal with as a kid at the hands of his own father, to the fact that his mother is now in jail for killing him…you can say that he's had a hard life. "I still remember what you told me on our first date, how you were scared to tell me because of my brother."
Matt smiled as he agreed with Gabby, as that was the truth. "I mean, do you blame me? Your brother's a cop, and I'm the son of a convicted felon. And not just any felon, but the worst type of felon…a convicted female murderer." Gabby agreed with her husband. "I think it helped that he knew you from before we dated. How you worked closely with him on some calls, and then how we knew each other outside of work. Then, he saw the chemistry between us, and he just knew that there was no stopping our love for each other." Matt smirked, well aware that he and his gorgeous wife have a bunch of chemistry with each other. "Oh, we most certainly do have chemistry." Gabby agreed with Matt, smiling as she leaned in and kissed him softly. "Listen, I want to kiss you. And I want to hold you in my arms as we take it easy with each other. But, I need to finish the dishes so that we can get cozy with each other in bed." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware that he wants to get cozy with her in bed. "Oh, I know that's what you want more than anything."
Matt agreed, as he most certainly does. "And that's why I need to kick you out of the kitchen and up to our room, so that I can finish down here and come join you upstairs." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case; however, maybe she can do the dishes and he can go run them a bath. "Listen, I know you want me tonight. But, you need rest ahead of t…" Placing his hands on the sides of his wife's face, Matt tugged her lips against his and smirked. "There's no way in hell you're taking away what you already told me I'm going to get now." Matt said, before picking Gabby up in his arms and throwing her over his shoulder to carry her up to bed. "Matt! What the hell!" Matt smirked. "We can do the dishes in the morning. Right now, I need to take you upstairs so that you don't change your mind." Gabby laughed as she heard Matt say that. "Then, at least hold me properly. Put me in front of you and then let me cuddle up to you like you want." Matt agreed with his wife, only to set her down for a moment. And a very brief moment at that.
Bending down afterwards, Matt smirked as he picked Gabby up in his arms and wrapped her legs around his waist; while she wrapped her arms around his neck and held onto him nice and tight. Kissing his wife afterwards, Matt smiled as he carried her out of the kitchen towards the stairs so that they can make their way to their room…where they have plans to take it nice and easy with each other. "What's more important to you tonight. Taking it easy with me, or the bath?" Matt smirked. "Can't I have both?" Gabby agreed, as he most certainly can (and will) have both. "it's early enough, so you can. Now, take me upstairs so that we can have each other in bed. And if we fall asleep afterwards, that's okay. We can just take a shower in the morning." Matt smirked, as he loved that idea. "Or, we can just cuddle. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow." Gabby smiled. "Sex in the morning, before we take a shower?" Matt laughed. "Let's just see what happens. All that matters at the end of the day is that we love each other." Gabby agreed and smiled.
It was a nightly ritual of his: he always picked out his shift uniform the night before shift to make it easy for him when he wakes up, as it means that he doesn't need to pick it out; while, at the same time, he also has a chance to get undressed. And that's precisely what Matt did while he was in the closet: he picket out his shift uniform for tomorrow, while also stripping down to his boxers; a sight that his wife loved the sight of as she sat down in bed wearing her lingerie after picking out her paramedic uniform. "Damn, I love the sight of my hunky firefighter husband walking around in his tight boxers." Turning his head to look at his beautiful wife, Matt agreed as he likes the sight in front of him as well: the sight of his gorgeous wife in bed, laying down and just relaxing ahead of their night in bed. "You know, I'm quite happy that we decided to just spend the night in bed holding each other, rather than having sex. As much as we want to try and have a family, I just don't feel like the time is right." Looking at her husband when he said that, Gabby was surprised.
After all, she knows that he wants nothing more than to be a father; so, why isn't he ready to go ahead and start a family yet? "Can I ask why you think that it's a wise decision that we wait to start a family?" Matt sighed, as he knew that it was a touchy subject for her since they both want to have a family more than anything. "Can you just hear me out? I know that we both want kids more than anything, and I do. But...I just don't think it's the time based on how hectic things are about to get for us." Looking at her husband, Gabby wanted to be mad with Matt. However, there was just something in her that knew there was a reason why he was saying these things. So, she decided to hear him out. "Ok. How about you come join me in bed, so that we can talk about this, and I can hear you out?" Matt agreed, as that's precisely what he wants: he wants Gabby to hear him out, so that he can explain things to her. "I appreciate that Gabby." Gabby agreed with her husband as she set her magazine aside, while also slipping over in bed.
After which, she opened the covers and smiled at the man of her dreams. "Come here and join me in bed. I want to hold you close to me, as we take it easy in the comfort of our bed." Matt smiled as he agreed with his wife, prior to doing just that for her. He went to get in bed with the woman he loves, so that he can concentrate on her and no one else. "God, you look so damn sexy right now." Gabby agreed with Matt, as she can say the same thing about him. "I can say the same thing about you, handsome." Matt agreed with his wife, smiling as he proceeded to open the sheets and get in bed with the woman he loves. After which, he laid down in bed and just smirked as he got close to her and wrapped his arm around her body. "Damn, you're so sexy." Gabby agreed with Matt as she cuddled up to him and smiled, quite happy over just how much she loves her husband. So, she leaned in and took things slow with the man of her dreams. That was, until Matt ran his hand up her tank top she was wearing and groped her. "Oh, sexy husband."
Matt smirked as Gabby said that, as he decided that he wanted to tease her. "I hope it's ok that I did that." Placing her hands on Matt's face, Gabby agreed with her husband as she wants him to be happy. "Hey, I get it. You aren't ready to have sex because you have a lot on your mind, but you still want to be a bit sexy with me." Matt sighed as it was more than just that. "Hey, what's going on Matt? I can see that you have something on your mind. So, please let me in and tell me what's going on." Matt agreed as he looked at Gabby, well aware that he needs to do just that. "I am just worried for tomorrow. How it's my first shift since…you know.," Cuddling up to Matt, Gabby agreed with him as she knew that was worrying him. And that's precisely why she was here with him, wrapping her arms around his waist as she held him in her arms. She was holding him as she knew that he was worried in the aftermath of the loss the firehouse was still dealing with. "Hey, I get that Matt. I hope you know that." Matt agreed with his wife, glad that was the case.
And he's also grateful for how loving and supportive his wife has been through all of this. He knows that this hasn't been easy on the both of them, especially since Gabby's had to see all the drama at the house too; some of it directed at him. "I hope you know that I'm glad that you've been with me through all of this. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have you by my side." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case. "And you don't think I already know that Matt? I know that you wouldn't be in this headspace if you were alone. But, you aren't alone because we're married, I love you, and you have nothing to worry about as long as we face this together." Matt agreed with his wife as she told him that, smiling due to the fact that he truly believes that he has the best wife in the entire world. And even better, she's absolutely gorgeous. "I hope you know that I truly believe that I'm the luckiest man in the entire world, simply due to the fact that I have you in my life." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case. "Oh, I know that."
Matt smirked as he heard Gabby tell him that, only to lean in and start taking things nice and slow with the woman he loves more than anything in the entire world: the woman of his dreams, his gorgeous wife; Gabriela Marie Casey. "I love you so much Gabby, and I truly am the luckiest man in the entire world to have been blessed with you as my wife." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case. "Yes, yes you are. Now, I think we both know that we need to just take it easy and rest ahead of shift in the morning. Do you want to watch TV or something?" Smirking, Matt moved his hand to her neck and just started to take things nice and slow with the woman his dreams. After which, he shook his head as that was the last thing he wanted to do. "No, just this." Gabby agreed with her husband, as that's precisely what she wants to do as well; she wants to take things nice and slow with the man of her dreams. So, that's precisely what she and Matt did: they took things nice and slow with each other, until they fell asleep in each other's arms.
