Hey! Kai the Raichu here!
Yeah, I know it's been a longg time since I last wrote on here and that I deleted all of my stories, but this was basically a time spent reflecting on my writing style and thinking of a brand new story for me to write. This is going to be my next huge project, and hopefully the one project that succeeds. It's not going to be easy, but all I can hope for is that whoever stumbles upon my story enjoys it.
Now, i'll just jump right in!
Otto rubbed his eyes as he stared at the now blurry paper in front of him. It was late, seriously late at night- but he had a huge exam the next day, so he was trying to cram his brain with words he'd just vomit out on the test paper about a dozen hours from now. He did consider himself pretty intelligent by most standards, so a lot of the academic stuff he did basically bored him half to death; only reason he put so much work into this anyway was so he could get a scholarship and not fall into intense debt thanks to how overpriced going to college was nowadays.
Taking a few deep breaths, the stuffy air in his bedroom and the lack of air conditioning wasn't exactly helping his concentration. Shutting his textbook a bit louder than he probably should have, he stepped out of his bedroom and walked down the creaky stairs leading to the first floor of his parent's house. Like always, his parents weren't home- it wasn't like he cared much anyway. Walking into the kitchen, he poured a cold glass of water to try and clear his head. Processing everything that he had just read would only be more difficult if he was dehydrated. Haphazardly throwing the water glass into the kitchen sink, he opened the backdoor of the house to let some fresh air in and opened his textbook again to study some more.
It was remarkably easier than it was before, and he definitely felt a lot more energized thanks to the fresh air. Reading through the rest of his notes, he was done before he knew it. Sighing with relief and closing his textbook, he was just glad that he didn't have to study for any longer. Unfortunately, he knew that despite how exhausted he was, there was no way in hell he'd be able to go to sleep easily. When your mind's already racing, there isn't much you can do to stop it except just.. lay there. And he'd rather do literally anything but just mindlessly lay there, hoping his brain would calm down enough to go to sleep. Besides, it was already 11:30 anyway- it wasn't like staying up would make him any less tired in the morning.
Beginning to mindlessly flick through TV channels, Otto was unsure on what to spend the night doing. If he was awake, he might as well do something fun, right..? Yeah. Otto could still feel the cold air hitting his face from outside, and considering how tired he was, going outside really seemed appealing. Though in pretty much any other circumstance he wouldn't go out, his tired mental state provided just the right conditions for him to go for it. Otto turned off the TV and walked outside.
There was something about the air that made him feel calmer. The cool autumn air was like a massage for his brain. Feeling his brain slowly calm down, he stood outside for a bit and just enjoyed the moment. After a few minutes, he walked inside again and slid the door shut behind him, locking it as well to be safe. He grabbed his textbook and once he reached his room he put it in his backpack, turning off the lights and falling into a deep sleep on his bed.
When Otto woke up, he felt absolutely amazing! He was pretty shocked at how good he felt. Checking the time, it was.. 11:20 AM. He had 10 minutes to get to school, or he'd miss his exam!
Quickly shooting out of bed in a panic, Otto picked up his backpack, not even changing out of his clothes as he ran down the stairs and ran out of the back door of the house. Running down the sidewalk down to the way his school was, he just had to keep running as fast as he could.. and maybe, just maybe, he'd make it on time. This test was one of the most important of his whole life, and it wasn't like he could ever trust his parents to help him out, so it was up to him to get there.
Strrugling to keep his glasses on as he ran, he checked his watch. 11:23 AM, and he still wasn't anywhere close to the school. He just had to keep pushing. Trying to speed up his running, he could see familiar landmarks that he passed on his way to school- convenience stores, street signs.. Otto knew that he actually had a chance to make it if he kept the pace up. He could hear cars speed right past him as he kept going as fast as he could, and he could tell that he was losing steam. Eventually, he'd have to stop, but that wasn't a concern right now. It was 11:27 AM, and time was running out even further.
Otto kept moving as fast as he could, even if his lungs were about ready to give out. He could see the school now, but he knew it might be too late. He couldn't start the test late, and the classroom was on the second floor at the school. He kept going, just because there was a small chance.
It was 11:29 now. He kept going faster, and faster.. and then he tripped.
He didn't exactly know why he fell onto the road after that instead of landing safely on the sidewalk, or why he couldn't react in time once he heard the car horn, but he remembered the absolute worst earth-shattering pain he had felt in his life taking over in that moment. He tried to scream, but nothing came out. He could hear muffled voices and yelling, but it didn't leave any sort of impact on him. Everything was either searing in pain or completely numb, and he felt like he lost his grip on something once everything went black.
"..Not yet." Is the last thing he heard. And though he had no idea what that meant, it was a single phrase that would change his life forever.
Yeah, the main character dies in the first chapter! If you read the premise of the story, you'll understand why this happened though. The real story begins in the next chapter! I hope i'll see you then. Please favorite and review the story!
