From the moment the Fairy Godmother unwittingly confessed that Maleficent was going to have a child, all Nanny wanted was to see the baby. If she could break all the laws, she would have gone immediately to the Isle of the Lost, but she couldn't do that. As the years went by, she always wondered how the child was and what it was like.
When Mal went to Auradon, her heart was filled with joy, but as her health worsened, their meeting was postponed, and she was always afraid to tell the whole truth. Maleficent's story is the one everyone used to tell: "The woman who cursed a baby just because she wasn't invited to a christening." She was afraid to bring the entire truth into the life of the then teenager.
"Yes, I knew about you." Nanny sadly confessed. Mal was saddened to hear this, since, apparently, Nanny was her "grandmother" and could somehow be considered her family. "But, I wanted to see you, Mal, I swear I did."
"And why didn't you come to me? I guess you knew I lived in Auradon, or not?"
Probably, if Nanny said she didn't want to go to the island, she would understand.
"Yes, I knew when you came to Auradon, to be honest, I know almost everything about you Mal, from your birth to the day you came here." This time it was she who couldn't speak. "But I haven't lived through my best years, if Helena hasn't told you, she will, I'm going crazy, which isn't a lie at all, age has finally caught up with me."
Mal laughed along with her.
"She said you'd been a bit ill."
"And I don't think you'd want any more drama in your life."
"Look, I guarantee that if you saw my life, you'd see that you're far from being one of my problems."
She might not agree with all the distance she kept, but Mal felt something good for Nanny.
"I'm glad, I guess." When they were silent, Nanny could see how much more beautiful Mal was than she had seen her on television. She also couldn't help but notice her growing belly. "I wanted to get you off the island, but I couldn't. When I heard that Maleficent was pregnant, I literally had a heart attack." Nanny began to cry, and seconds later so did the little purple one. "She was already in her seventh month, I think, when in the course of a conversation my sister said 'the world is still so crazy that Maleficent is now going to be a mother'. Knowing the person, she had become, I wanted to get you out of that place and take care of you. However, apart from the fact that your mother didn't like me very much, the people in this little pink world wouldn't take it well. So, I always asked for some reports on you."
"Reports about me?"
She asked curiously, still sniffling a little.
"Yeah, Yen Sid had to send reports about the island to Helena and I asked him to send some things about you. Until Helena found out, and then I had to stop doing it illegally. All I knew about you is what he said. She has purple hair, green eyes that scare you, beautiful dimples, he said" Nanny ran her hand gently over her tear-soaked cheeks. "And a sweet smile."
"Yen Sid? Mom didn't like him." She remembered the wizard. "Why show up now? I'm not complaining, don't think so, but why now?"
"Forgive me Mal, I really wanted to meet you before, but I couldn't. And I think this is the best time, because I just really wanted to hug my adoring daughter's daughter." She cried. "I'm sorry."
"No, it's okay. I'm happy to meet you too, I think. I'm sorry, it's just that it's very confusing for me, you know? There are a million things going on in my life, and now I've discovered you, it's just too much."
Mal searches for air that seems to have disappeared. It really is a lot of emotions for someone who avoids getting emotional.
"I understand, a pregnancy and…"
Nanny spoke without realizing that Mal was unaware that she didn't know.
"Wait, did you know I was pregnant?" She was about to ask how she knew, but remembered what Helena had said about the fairy being able to see the future. "You see the future, sorry I forgot."
"Not frequently, just some things."
She explained, wanting her granddaughter not to think of her as a very powerful fairy.
"It must be nice."
"No, not at all, sometimes it can be a huge burden."
She reveals, but understands that Mal doesn't see as other people do.
"Well, if you can see the future, you can prevent something bad from happening."
Mal thinks rationally.
"Sometimes what's written can't be changed."
Nanny reveals to her.
"You're right, you thought it would change with my mom."
It would take a while, but Nanny could get used to the girl's wry and sincere humor.
"Yes, but I've learned to understand that everything is a big project in progress. Everything is connected and… I'm sorry, it's just a silly old woman." The two seemed to form a small emotional bond. Although it was too early to see it happening. "Well, I have to get home."
"How are you going? I've only just met you."
Mal complained, not wanting her to leave.
"Look, whenever you need me, I'll be here." She took her hands as if Mal were a child. "I came here so that you would know where you come from and your origins, I also couldn't stay any longer without seeing you in person."
"I don't want you to go."
"Just call me, and I'll show up, I promise, right now you need to absorb everything I've told you."
"And I can visit you?"
Mal dares to ask.
"Oh my, I'd be honored, I'd love to. Jane knows where I live, she'll take you whenever she wants. I love you, Mal." She doesn't wait for an answer, she just hugs her tightly. "Another thing, the pretty one, with the crown."
"Ben?"
Mal implied.
"Yes, don't despise love, it's very powerful, and don't forget that you're very strong, little girl." Nanny strokes her cheek. " You are your greatest strength and weakness."
Mal smiles, still not fully understanding what the lady has said.
"Does this have to do with things in the future?"
She asked, now very curious about the subject.
"Maybe."
"Even if it did, you wouldn't tell me, would you?"
"Certainly not. It's good that you've already met me, but I really have to go."
"I really enjoyed meeting you, Nanny."
Mal confesses, still shocked that she has a grandmother.
"I loved it even more, Mal."
They hug for a long time. It's hard to say who has been waiting for it more. Nanny who has dreamed of meeting her since before she even came into the world or Mal who has only just found out about her, but feels that he loves her, instantly.

Isle of the Lost
Sometime later
The years passed, and it seemed that the woman didn't know old age. Although she didn't look her best in her twenties, no one would ever guess her real age. She was singing one of her songs and walking through the dirty streets of the island, catching the eyes of the men wherever she went.
"Good to see you, Gothel."
The man at the pub said the traditional goodnight.
"Good evening, sir."
She said with her traditional smile.
"The usual?" He asked, handing her a glass. "How's your daughter?"
"She's no longer here, she's gone to Ciderelabug, that ingrate."
"I hear you retired from Dragon Hall."
"This island takes gossip too fast for me, but that place has tired my beauty."
"As if that were possible, isn't it?"
"Come on, I want some news. I haven't heard anything new in ages."
"Don't you know what everyone on the island is talking about?"
"No, what would that be?"
"The king and queen will have an heir."
"How?"
She asked incredulously.
"Yes, it seems that Mal will have a son. Can you imagine what Maleficent would think if she knew that?"
"She's still a lizard, she wouldn't think anything."
"Think about it Gothel, in our times it was impossible to imagine a villain marrying a prince. And the villain is still the son of the Dark Queen."
The drunken man burst out laughing.
"Indeed, an heir…" She smiled again, "Gentleman, it's about time, you know it's not time for a lady to be out of the house."
"Until next time, Gothel."
The man's news made the woman smile wider than when she found an old skin cream. It was music to her ears, but it seemed that only she understood how the news would change the course of the world.
Leaving, she walked back towards her old job.
"Good night, my pretty." She stroked the huge spider that guarded Dragon Hall's secret library. "I've come for a book." She talked to the spider as she walked through the corridors. "Found it." She took the book and walked off, "I think it's time I visited Auradon."
