Hi Readers: Before we begin, I just wanted to let you guys know that I have decided to not cover much of what really happened in this episode as the storyline is hard to recreate for Dawsey, in my opinion. There's no love triangle in my story, so I am just going to write my version based on some ideas I have for what could've happened during this episode if it was Dawsey. Thanks for understanding.
Note #1: I believe that I may stop covering the shifts as it's harder to write when it's a lot of writing.
Note #2:
The part of this chapter which is written in italics is a flashback part that I made up. Hope you guys like it.

Mon Amour, Part 1
The Barbecue

FRIENDS OF FIREMEN BBQ – October 20, 2012
She was still frustrated over the fact that she ran into Hallie last shift at the hospital, again. It's as if she can't get rid of her. Yes, she knows that she works there, and she knows that she can't always avoid her husband's ex; however, does she always need to get sent there? Or, if she does, does she always need to be on shift? It's just weird honestly, and she doesn't like it. It's actually why she's so quiet today, when she should instead be excited over the fact that she and Matt are at a CFD function which isn't work. One where they can wear their normal clothes and just take it easy with each other, which is what Matt is trying to get his wife to do; however, it seems like she's having a bit of a hard time as she stood next to one of the trees in the park. So, rather than play with the Darden boys like he always does at this barbecue, Matt decided to make his way over to his wife so that he could check on her. "Ok. I recognize that face. What's going on?" Gabby sighed as she looked at her husband, only to grab his beer to take a sip of the delicious beer he had.

After all, it was what she needed right now. She needs to take a sip of his beer so that she can relax and just take it easy with him. "It's your ex." Sighing as he heard Gabby mention something about Hallie, Matt just had no idea where this was headed. So, he decided that he was going to just hold her in his arms and let her vent. "Here, how about you let me lean against the tree? That way, you can cuddle up to me as we talk." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware of what he was talking about. He wants to hold her in his arms, wrap his arms around her waist and just cuddle up to her. And honestly, that's precisely what she wants as well. She wants to cuddle up to the man of her dreams, as they hold each other close at the barbecue. So, she moved out of the way so that Matt could stand against the tree. "There you go, lean against the tree for me baby." Matt agreed with his wife, smiling as he went ahead and leaned back against the tree. Meanwhile, Gabby got close to him and wrapped her arms around him to kiss him softly. "I love you." Matt agreed.

After all, he loves her too and is always happy to be with her. "I love you too, and I only want to be YOUR husband." Gabby smiled, agreeing with her husband as she got close to him and turned around in his arms to face away from him; meanwhile, Matt wrapped his arms around her and placed one of his hands on her leg as they both watched Herrmann's kids play with the Darden boys. And all that made him think about was how their kids will have friends right away someday. So, he decided to place his hand on her stomach and smile as he stroked it with his thumb. "You know, when we have kids someday, they're going to have an immediate circle of friends just like us." Gabby laughed as she heard Matt say that, well aware that was the case as she placed her hand on his as they cuddled up to each other. At the same time, Matt kissed the top of Gabby's head with the hopes of getting her to talk to him about her ex. "So, listen. I know that this may not be the topic you want to talk about right now, but…" Gabby agreed with Matt.

After all, she doesn't want to talk about his ex when she's the one who's married to him. Rather, she just wants to concentrate on them. And that's what Matt wants as well, right after she tells him what happened. "So, I was at the hospital with Shay today. She said that she knew it was the barbecue this weekend, and she asked whether we were going. I was hesitant to tell her, as you know her. She likes to stalk you a bit." Matt agreed with his wife, well aware that was the case. "You know, I can always talk to your brother about getting a restraining order against her if you tell me to. That way, he can be protected and just make sure that she doesn't bother us. I know that she does to you babe, and I don't like it." Gabby sighed, as she was bothered by how much she still sees her. "I mean, Chicago is a big city. What are the odds that I ALWAYS get sent to Lakeshore?" Matt agreed. "The problem is, we worked the same shift, and she didn't change it after we broke up." Gabby agreed with her husband, as she realizes that now. "Yeah, that makes sense."

Matt then took a breath as he bent down and kissed his wife's neck softly. "Sorry about how she flirted with me when we were last at the hospital together, when we were checking on Madeleine." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware he was sorry about that. I mean, how can he not be sorry for what his ex did? It isn't fair, nor would it ever be fair that she's treated that way when they're married. "I just wish she would give me the respect I feel like I'm owed as your wife, especially from the woman who should already know why you guys broke up." Matt smiled as he kissed the side of her head. "Because I fell in love with a gorgeous, sexy paramedic who wants to make me a dad." Gabby agreed with her husband, as she most certainly does want to make him a father in the future. That's actually her biggest dream in life: making the man of her dreams a father. However, not yet. Not when she still feels this way. "You know, I really shouldn't be saying these things. I'm sorry that I'm even…" Matt shook his head as he kissed the side of Gabby's head.

After which, he bent down and kissed her neck to shut her up prior to speaking to her. "Gabby, it's ok. I want you to talk to me about these things so that I can make sure that you're okay and that nothing happens to you. The last thing I want is for you to get all agitated and frustrated, when you're my wife and I love you more than anything. Is that why you wanted to take a bath with me after we got home from the hospital?" Gabby sighed and nodded as she thought back to when she and Matt got home from the hospital.

FLASHBACK TO OCTOBER 13, 2012:
CASEY HOMEThey were finally back at home after checking on Herrmann at the hospital, where they just so happened to have run into Matt's ex, Dr. Hallie Thomas. The doctor who still doesn't get that he's married now and no longer wants to be with her. Rather, he's moved on and is happy in his new life with the gorgeous Gabriela Casey. His wife, and the true love of his life. But now, she had to deal with it and just try and breathe. And that's precisely what Gabby was doing at the moment as she walked into the bathroom of their home so that she could run herself a bath, rather than take a shower. However, what she didn't expect was that Matt was going to walk in behind her and scare her. "I had a feeling that you were going to come in here." Turning around, Gabby jumped as she didn't expect to have him come here so fast. "God, baby, you scared me." Matt agreed with his wife and smiled at his wife. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Gabby agreed with Matt as she watched him walk into their bathroom and get close to her.

While, at the same time, he smirked at her due to the fact that he's quite turned on at the moment. "You like it when I'm just wearing a robe, don't you?" Matt agreed with his wife as he made his way over to her and just smiled as he wrapped his arms around her body, prior to bringing her right against his chest. After which, he leaned in and kissed her softly. "How are you doing? You still trying to breathe and take it easy?" Gabby agreed with her husband, as that's precisely what she's doing: breathing and taking it easy. "That's all I want to do right now. I don't want to think about what happened." Matt agreed with his wife. "And the union stuff doesn't help either." Gabby agreed with her husband, as it most certainly doesn't help. "Yeah, that's why I want to take a bath and just take it easy. You don't need to…" Moving one of his hands to Gabby's neck, Matt smirked as he leaned in and started to take things nice and slow with the woman he loves. "Don't you dare tell me that I'm not getting in the bath with you, as I most certainly am."

Smiling at her husband, Gabby agreed as that's precisely what I want. "Yeah, I want that. Hell, I need that after a stressful day already." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that. "Yeah, I had a feeling that was the case. So, do you just want to take it easy and relax?" Gabby smiled, as she likes that idea. Do you mind?" Matt shook his head. "Of course, I don't mind. Let me just get in the bath for you, then we can hold each other close and relax here in the bath." Gabby agreed with her loving husband, especially since that's precisely what she wants to do today. She wants to take it nice and easy with the man of her dreams, as they hold each other in the comfort of their bath. But first, she got a chance to watch him take off his towel, which is always hot; especially when she slaps his ass once he takes it off. "HEY!" Matt said, as he turned around to look at Gabby. "What was that for?" Gabby smirked. "I wanted to turn my husband on a bit." Matt agreed with his wife and smirked as he wrapped his towel around her and brought her against his chest.

Meanwhile, Gabby placed her hands on his toned chest and just smiled as she started to take things nice and slow with the man of her dreams. "I love you." Matt agreed, as he loves Gabby too. "I love you too, forever." Agreeing with Matt, Gabby smirked due to the fact that she wants to be forever with this handsome man; just like she also wants to make a bath with him. "Listen, can you just get in the bath and sit down? Then, I can sit in your lap and take it easy too." Matt agreed with his wife, prior to turning around and moving to sit down in the bath so that she can join him. After all, what's better than a husband and wife taking a bath with each other? And that's precisely what he decided to ask his wife. "Now, what's better than us doing this today?" Smiling, Gabby made her way over to the edge of the bath and looked at the man of her dreams. "In my opinion, nothing can be better than us doing this with each other." Matt agreed. After all, how can he disagree with the woman he loves. "Listen, come sit down. I want to hold you close."

Gabby agreed, smiling as she proceeded to climb into the bath with the man of her dreams; only to cuddle up to him as she wrapped her arms around his muscular torso. Meanwhile, Matt wrapped his arm around her back and kissed the top of her head so that he could help her relax. "Listen, you just need to breathe and relax babe. We both know that. So, how about you do just that for me?" Gabby agreed with Matt, prior to turning her head and kissing his chest softly. "I can definitely do that for you." Smiling, Matt placed his hand on her back and rubbed it as a way to help her relax as they both held each other in the bath. "So, you ran into Hallie again?" Gabby agreed with Matt, as she did. "Yeah, and the memories of how she literally flirted with you right in front of me came flooding back." Matt agreed. "I hope you know that I'm sorry she even did that, not that I wanted it to happen. I promise, you're my one and only forever." Gabby agreed with Matt, as she had no doubt whatsoever that was the truth. "I had no doubt that was the case."

After taking a moment to think back to the nice bath they took with each other, Gabby cuddled up to Matt and smiled as she kissed him softly while they both held their beers; at the same time, Matt wrapped his arm around her waist and just smirked as he took things nice and slow with the woman he loves. That was, until they were disturbed. "I swear, does this always happen to candidates?" Peter Mills said, referring to what he was wearing: his dress uniform. And let's just say that made Matt laugh a bit since it was a bit funny. "Let me guess, Cruz?" Mills agreed with his Captain, until he noticed that he was in an intimate moment with his wife. "I'm sorry, I didn't even think. Of course, you guys are in the middle of sharing a moment with each other." Matt smiled. "It's ok. This is a public event. Me and Gabby can spend intimate time with each other later. We were just taking a moment to talk about an awkward moment from last shift when she ran into my ex-fiancé." Peter was surprised. "Wait, I heard that Gabby was your one and only."

Matt snickered. "It's what we like to say at the firehouse, that she's the only woman I was ever meant to marry." Turning her head, Gabby looked up at the man of her dreams. "It's the truth. Last time I checked, I'm the only one who was going to give you kids." Matt smirked, as that most certainly is the truth; a truth that Andrew and Heather Darden both liked to hear as they made their way over to the couple. "I think that you guys really need to start working on that, as we aren't really a fan of sharing our children." Turning his head, Matt smirked. "I'm not too sure you mean that after how we watched them last night so that you could go on a date night." Heather smiled as Matt said that. "Let me say this: that was a nice date you let us take. We really got a chance to talk about our future." Gabby just looked at Heather. "Seriously? What happened to what you said when we were at your place?" Heather laughed. "Called menopause. The odds are lower now, which means that it'll be a miracle. So, I like the sound of that." Andy agreed.

After which, he turned his head and kissed her cheek; only to notice that Mills is in his dress uniform. "Cruz?" Mills just rolled his eyes when he heard Andy say that. "I'm out of here so that I can get changed." Turning his head, Andy smiled at his wife. "I have my gym bag in the back of the car for the next time I work out. Maybe I can give him some of my gym shorts and my shirt to borrow?" Heather agreed, as she likes that idea. "Good idea." She said, kissing her husband softly. "See you in a bit." Andy agreed with Heather, smiling as he looked at Mills. "C'mon Mills, let's get you changed into some of my gym clothes." Andy and Mills then both walked away to go get him changed. Meanwhile, Heather smiled at the Caseys. "So, what are you guys talking about?" Matt sighed as he looked at his wife. "Oh, she just doesn't like running into my ex." Gabby agreed with her husband, as that's precisely the problem. "She works at Lakeshore, which is where I go each and every shift." Heather agreed with Gabby, well aware that's the case.

And honestly, she just feels horrible over the fact that she needs to run into her all the time. "Honestly, I don't know if I could do that. See Andy's ex on every shift, it'd be so awkward." Gabby sighed. "Especially considering she still has feelings for Matt. I'm sorry Matt, you may say that she doesn't still have feelings for you…" Matt shook his head as he turned his head and pressed his lips to her forehead. "Hey, I know that's the truth now. I know for a fact that she still has feelings for me." Gabby smiled as she looked up at the man of her dreams, quite happy that he decided to admit that; just like she's happy that her brother decided to come with their kids. "Gabby! Matt!" Turning her head when she heard Eva and Diego yell out for her, Gabby smiled as she let Matt go and went to go bend down to hug them. At the same time, Matt looked at Heather. "Sorry Heather, in-law time." Heather smiled. "See you in a bit." Matt agreed as he turned around so that he can make his way over to his in-laws, starting with Heather after Gabby hugged her.

Getting up after hugging her niece and nephew, Gabby smiled as she made her way over to Laura and proceeded to hug her. "How are you? We haven't seen each other in way too long." Laura smiled as Gabby said that. "I know, and that most certainly is the truth. We really need to change that." Matt smiled as he heard Laura say that, prior to looking at Antonio and going to shake his hand. "How are you Toni? Glad to see you're back in Laura's good graces and have the weekend off." Antonio smirked as Matt said that. "Oh, I'm in a much better place with her, if you know what I mean." Turning their heads to look at Antonio, both Gabby and Laura weren't that please. "Toni! Eva and Diego are here." Eva laughed. "Mom, he's been smirking since you got up this morning. I'm not stupid, we both know what that means." Matt smiled as he heard Eva say that. "Smart girl." Turning her head, Gabby smiled at her husband. "What do you expect? She's a Dawson." Matt smiled as he agreed with his wife, well aware that all the Dawson girls are smart.

That's when Diego saw that some kids were playing. "Dad, can I go play with some of the boys?" Matt smiled when Diego asked his dad that question, before turning to look at Andy. "Hey, Andy!" Turning around to look at Matt while speaking to Herrmann and Cindy, Andy smiled. "What's up Captain?" Matt smiled. "Where are your boys playing right now?" Andy then looked around. "With Herrmann's kids, playing soccer over there." Matt agreed with Andy when he said that, prior to following his finger so that he can show Diego where he can go play. "Diego, see the group over there…" Matt said, pointing to the group of kids he was playing soccer. "Yeah." Matt smiled. "Go see them and ask for Ben and Griffin. You remember them?" Diego bit his lip, while Gabby reminded him. "Diego, they're Matt's godsons. Their dad is your uncle's best friend on Truck 81." Diego then realized that. "Oh, them." Matt agreed and smiled at Diego. "Ask for them and you can go play soccer with them." Diego agreed and rushed away.

Meanwhile, Matt looked at Eva. "I'm going to go play too, okay dad? Show off that I'm a better soccer player than Diego." Antonio smirked. "That's my girl." She agreed, prior to running away to get away from her parents. Meanwhile, the adults all smiled. "You guys want to sit down and just take it easy?" Smiling, all of the adults moved to sit down together so that they can relax and spend some time with each other; time which they haven't had since Matt and Gabby got married. "You know, I think the last time the six of us got together was Matt and Gabby's wedding last December." Turning her head when she heard Antonio say that, Heather was surprised. "Didn't we all get together for Gabby's birthday in July?" Antonio thought about it and laughed, as he was surprised that he forgot that they got together for his own sister's birthday. "God, how did I forget that we got together for your birthday Gabby?" Gabby shrugged as she proceeded to sit down at a table with Matt, who soon wrapped his arm around her and just smiled at his wife.

After which, he turned his head and smiled as he watched all of the kids playing with each other. "God, I can't wait until our kids are over there playing with the Darden boys and their cousins." Antonio smiled as he heard Matt say that. "So, have you guys started talking about when you guys are going to start trying?" Turning her head, Gabby bit her lip. "Well, Matt's done with the reporting to headquarters a lot more. So, I was thinking that we can start talking about it. But, I'm leaving it up to him." Matt agreed with his wife. After all, he understood why she was saying that; though, Laura, Antonio, and Heather didn't get why it was his choice. "Last time I checked, it was your choice Gabby since you're the one who has to carry the baby." Taking a breath, Matt sighed. "I'm still not in the mental head space. I just finished testifying about Otis' death like two days ago. So, I still have a lot on my mind." Andy sighed, as he understood what he was trying to say. "You want to make sure that you have your things in order first, and things calm down."

Matt sighed. "Especially with Severide. I would rather not have to deal with that stress while Gabby's pregnant, if that makes sense." Antonio then thought about that, as he knew that things between Matt and Kelly were still rough. "Yeah, I didn't think about that. I'm sorry for trying to push you guys into kids. I just know that my sister wants to have kids bad." Gabby agreed with her brother. "Yes, I do. But, I know that my husband needs time Antonio. So, can you please not get into my business about this? This doesn't really concern you at the end of the day. Yeah, I know that you want to be a godfather soon, and I promise; you'll be the godfather to our first child…" Heather and Andy both interrupted her when she said that. "Excuse me?" Turning her head, Gabby sighed as she knew that they'd have to have this conversation at some point; so, they might as well talk about it now. "Gabby, we made you our sons' godparents. So, why wouldn't you guys pick us as your kids' godparents?" Gabby sighed as she looked at Matt.

She then grabbed his hand, as she hoped that he can talk to them about that. "Matt, can you talk to them about that? You know how I feel about godparents and what they mean to me." Matt agreed with his wife, so he decided to do just that. "Well, here's the thing guys. Gabby sees godparents as not just honorary titles, but also as the people we chose to raise our kids should something happen to us." Antonio agreed with Gabby, as he feels the same way. "That's why we changed Eva and Diego's godparents, we added Matt later." Matt smiled, as he was glad that they did that; in fact, he felt honored due to the fact that it meant that they trusted him with their children should something happen to them. "I hope you know that….I weirdly feel honored in a way. Not that I want anything to happen to you but knowing that you have so much faith in me that you want me and Gabby to take your kids in if you guys die; that means a lot to me brother." Antonio smiled as he heard Matt tell him that. "It's no problem. Not that you'd really do it."

Gabby just looked at her brother when he said that. "Antonio, of course, we'd take them in." Antonio sighed. "I mean, our parents would do it first, of course." Gabby agreed with her brother, as that was true. "Right, of course. That makes so much sense now." Antonio smiled as he agreed with his sister, glad that they were able to get past that without a fight. Meanwhile, Matt turned his head and smiled as he wrapped his arm around Gabby. "We need to have that conversation, don't we?" Matt asked his wife, as he pressed his lips to the side of her head. Meanwhile, Gabby agreed as she wrapped her arm around his back as that's precisely what she feels like they need to have: the conversation about them having kids. While they do know that they want to have kids, they just don't know when they have kids. And that's the conversation which the two of them need to have with each other. And they'll have it later.
