Now, time to get to the interesting episodes. The ones where we start to deal with Chicago PD some more. More specifically, a certain dirty cop named Hank Voight. And with these episodes comes parts which I like. I always wondered what it would be like if Antonio was Matt's brother-in-law during these episodes, which is precisely what Antonio is now. Hope you guys like these chapters.

Flashback to October 21, 2012 – End of Shift.
"Two hours left in a shift, and no calls yet; that happen very often?" – Peter Mills
To say that Christopher Herrmann and Randall "Mouch" McHolland weren't the happiest of firefighters when they heard their candidate say that while they were watching TV, well that was an understatement; especially since it was back luck to say that. "He did not just say that." The senior firefighter with four kids said, with a hint of frustration in his voice; leading to the candidate being confused. "Did I say something wrong?" And just then, a call came over the PA system. "Accident. Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambo 61." And to say the entire firehouse were frustrated was an understand. None more so that the couple who were currently in their private bedroom at the firehouse, fast asleep in each other's arms. And right away, they both knew. They knew exactly what happened as Matt turned his head and pressed his lips to his wife's forehead. "I'm going to kill that candidate." Matt said, as he watched his wife get off his chest this morning to go run out to the ambulance. Meanwhile, the Captain got up and proceeded to grab his phone.
After all, he wanted to check the time. And just what time might it be? Five AM. "The little bugger! He said it two hours before the end of shift." Gabby just shook her head as she heard Matt say that, only to bend down and do up her shoes, while also grabbing her jacket so that she can make her way out of their bedroom. "Babe, calm down. Means that it's the last call of the day." Turning his head when he heard Gabby say that, that had to be the bright side; unlike the sound of his best friend knocking on the door of his office. "Hey, Casey! Move!" Andy Darden said, as he ran by and knocked on his door. Meanwhile, Gabby took a moment and leaned over her husband to kiss him softly. "See you at the accident." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, prior to watching her run out of the door; while he got up and did the same, slapping her ass at the same time. "MATTHEW!" Smirking as they both ran out of the house, Matt smiled as he knew that this is precisely what they needed: a bit of flirtation so that they can be happy during the call.
Well, with each other at least; because there was one person who was going to hear it from Captain Casey. The only person he can assume was the reason for which they were headed on this early morning run. "Candidate!" Turning his head to look at his Captain, Mills was worried. "Yes, Captain?" Matt just looked at him. "We're going to talk in the Truck. So, listen up when I speak to you." Gulping, Mills agreed with him as he rushed away ahead of his Captain and the two other senior firefighters. Meanwhile, both Herrmann and Mouch walked up to him to hear him ask them a question. "Did he?" Sighing, Herrmann agreed with his captain as their candidate most certainly did. "Yep. He cursed us." Matt shook his head. "I'm doing the talking." Herrmann agreed as he ran out to go to the truck, which is precisely what Matt did as well so that he can go sit in the truck and speak to his candidate; the candidate who was already getting on his last nerve. And that's precisely why Matt plans on talking to him on the way to the accident.
He was making sure to press the siren as often as he could as they were approaching the time where the morning rush traffic would start, at least with the couriers. However, Truck 81 couldn't be stopped as they had to deal with a serious crash this morning. Though, that was the last thing that was on Casey's mind at the moment, as he had other things to deal with: teaching his candidate a lesson. "Mills. Pitcher's got a no-hitter going in the 8th inning…" Casey said, starting his lecture using baseball metaphors. "…you go up to him and say, you got a no-hitter going." Matt then went to tell him what not to do. "You don't do it at the firehouse either, as that screws us up." Mills agreed. "Yeah, I got it." Matt agreed with his candidate, only to look at Herrmann who he could see was frustrated. "Herrmann, head on straight. Got it?" Herrmann agreed. "Got it Captain." Matt agreed as they came to the scene of the accident, leading Cruz to slow down and stop; prior to Matt jumping out and making his way over to the accident and police officer.
Only first, he turned to look at his crew. "Stabilize the van!" He said, referring to the van which was currently balancing dangerously close to a tunnel entrance here on the streets, which is a very deadly situation. However, he couldn't worry about that right now when he instead needed to concentrate on getting to the police officer so that he could talk to him about what was going on since he was the most senior officer on scene; that is, due to the fact that Boden isn't on scene for this call. "Jammed." The police officer said, as Casey walked up to him and the car. After which, he went to use his Halligan to open the door so that he could get the driver out of the vehicle. "Just stay calm sir, we're going to get you out right now." He said, prior to opening the door with the assistance of the police officer. After which, the driver got up right away. "I'm ok. I'm alright." Smelling alcohol in his breath, Matt pushed him towards the officer. "Field test this idiot." The officer agreed so that he could do just that, while leading the young man away to test him.
At the same time, Matt looked in and saw open containers. "Open containers right there." The police agreed, which led to his arrest…and Matt noticing the car was teetering. So, he rushed over. "She's going! She's going!" The rest of truck 81 yelled, referring to the mini van which they were trying to keep from falling over the edge of the underpass, which led to Casey and Severide rushing out and yelling out orders. "Stabilizers!" "Cribbing!" The first order being for Squad, while the second was for Truck. Meanwhile, Gabby walked up to her husband to check on the patients. Putting her fingers on his neck, she nodded. "He's alive." Meanwhile, Shay realized something and went to speak in her radio. "We're going to need a second ambo." She said, telling dispatch to send another ambo to the scene even though she wasn't a commander. Though, that was okay as it was an emergency situation.
"Two backboards, jaws!" Casey yelled out, referring to what he needed both from his wife and his team. And luckily, that was all they needed to make the rescue and get both the car's driver and passenger out of the vehicle and to safety.
Once the situation was stabilized, Matt decided that it was safe for him to remove himself from the situation so that he could let the professionals (and the ones who are specially trained to do so). However, he decided to tell Andy something first. "Andy?" Turning his head, Andy smiled. "I'm going to talk to the cops and check on the idiot whose breath smelled like alcohol. Help Kelly with this." Andy agreed with his Captain. "Got it Captain." Matt then looked at Kelly. "Behave and stay safe." Matt said, as he walked away and made his way over to the police officer with a confused look on his face. "Where's the driver?" He asked him when he didn't see the driver anywhere in sight, which led to the officer getting nervous. "Some officers took him to the hospital." Confused, Matt was just in disbelief. "You're kidding." The officer shook his head. "No, he was complaining of leg pain and you guys looked swamped over there, so…" Just looking at the officer, Matt was not impressed whatsoever. "You guys should've C-Collared and Transported properly."
He said, while pointing to the ambulance. After all, that was the right way for a patient to be transported to the hospital; but, that wasn't the way he was transported. "My bad." Going to look in the car, Matt was confused. "Where are the beer bottles? You collect them?" Taking a breath, the cop just got nervous as he turned his head. "Hey, you see the guy behind me? Detective Voight?" Standing up, Casey looked at the detective who was surrounded by other officers. "That was his son driving his car." The officer finished, prior to walking away since he was scared. Meanwhile, Casey just looked at Voight due to the fact that he was just disgusted that he had the nerve to do what he did: he let his son get away, rather than arresting him. And just then, all of his memories from his youth came back. How cops protected his father rather than himself and his mother, simply due to the fact that his mom didn't want to speak…and because his father was friends with the cop who responded. It was as if it was all happening again, which was not a good feeling.
October 23, 2012 – Firehouse 51
He was running late for shift, literally as he came directly from his family diner and towards the firehouse; only to pass Mouch as he put out a sign saying, "TV donations welcome". After all, their TV just broke down and he can't go without some TV while on shift. At the same time, he told the candidate the reality: "You're late." Brushing him off, Peter continued to run inside the firehouse, only to see the rest of Truck 81 working on their air tanks. "Sorry." Shaking his head, Andy looked up at him. "First he blows our no hitter, then he comes in five minutes late." Turning his head to look at Andy, the Captain did not appreciate the fact that he was doing his job for him. "So much for employee of the week." Mills agreed. "Won't happen again." Matt agreed as he watched him walk away, only to see his wife and her paramedic partner walking out of the firehouse. After which, he got up and made his way over to her, while Cruz turned to look at Andy. "You know, you really should calm down if you want Matt to be okay with you studying."
He said, referring to what he just learned: that Andy was studying for Squad. "Oh, Casey already knows. Cruz, you do realize that I'm his best friend…and we see each other all the time due to the fact that he loves my kids. You have nothing to worry about, as he already knows." Cruz agreed with Andy as he said that. "How are Ben and Griffin anyways? We don't see them around here much." Andy sighed. "I'm keeping them away for a bit. Casey's a bit…stressed if you haven't been able to notice, which means that he's not the best to be around. And if my kids are here, then they're going to want to be all over him." Cruz snickered as he heard Andy say that, as that was true, just like it was true that Shay was going to have to check the Ambo equipment alone now that her PIC's husband (and their captain) was with them. "Hey." Matt said as he spoke to his wife, which led to Shay turning. "Uh oh. Either we're in trouble, or he wants something…or should I say, someone." Shay said, smirking as she looked at her best friend.
Meanwhile, Gabby pushed her away. "Shut up!" Shay agreed with Gabby. "Oh, don't act like you don't want him too." Gabby agreed with Shay, well aware that was the case as she turned to look at Matt. "Can you give us a minute Shay?" Shay agreed, prior to walking away. Meanwhile, Matt got close to his wife, who soon placed her hands on his chest and smiled as she wrapped her arms around him. "Hey." Smiling, Matt wrapped his arms around his wife as he leaned in and kissed her softly. "Hey. So, listen. I wanted to run something by you." Gabby agreed. "What is it? Maybe us going to the shower…" Matt laughed, as he loved the sound of that. "I love that idea, especially since you're in that place." Gabby agreed with Matt and smirked. "Listen, I know we spoke about this a couple nights ago…" Gabby sighed as she looked at her husband, remembering the exact conversation which they had with each other.
Two Nights Earlier – Casey Home
He was distracted as they laid down with each other on their living room couch, the husband and wife just taking it easy tonight since Matt told her that it was what he needed; she just didn't know why that was the case. Yet, she wasn't going to complain as it meant that she was going to get a chance to take it easy and just relax with the man of her dreams. The man she loves more than anything in the entire world. And right now, that's precisely what she's doing as she laid down on his chest and watched a Halloween movie. At the same time, Matt had his hand on her back and pressed his lips to her forehead. "You going to tell me what's on your mind baby?" Matt sighed as he looked down at Gabby. "It's about that last call from earlier this morning. You know, the car crash?" Gabby agreed with her husband. "Yeah, I remember." Matt agreed and took a breath. "I ran into a Detective Voight there. Dirty cop." Gabby nodded, as she knew all about him, which led to her getting worried. "Is everything okay? Did he threaten you?" Looking down, Matt smiled.
After all, he needed to show her that everything was okay (as it was). "No, he didn't threaten me. It's just…the DUI was his son." Gabby looked up at Matt when he said that. "You mean, the guy who left the scene was his son?" Matt agreed with his wife. "And it's been bugging me ever since. I've tried to push it to the side. I just…I wanted you to know that I was thinking about it. It's on my mind, if you ever get worried that I'm thinking about something else too much." Gabby agreed with her husband and smiled as she stroked his chest with his thumb. After all, she appreciated that he decided to tell her what was going on so that she could help. "Hey. Can you let me know what happens? What you think about? Matt, you seem scared and worried, much more than you have in a long time." Matt agreed with his wife, as that's precisely how he feels. "That guy is scary." Gabby agreed with Matt, smiling as she felt him press his lips to her forehead once more. "I just wanted to let you know that I'm ok, and not hide things from you. We're married after all."
Gabby agreed with Matt, as they most certainly are married. "And we'll be married for the rest of our lives." Matt smiled, as he loved the sound of that: them being married for the rest of their lives. "Yes, yes we will be married for the rest of our lives."
After taking a moment to think back to what Matt spoke to her about, Gabby sighed as she knew that he was a bit worried about it. "What's going on? Did he do anything of late?" Matt sighed as he got close to Gabby. "I just can't get it out of my mind. So, I was thinking…maybe you can call Antonio here for me?" Gabby was a bit confused. "And why can't you call him yourself? He'd come if you asked Matt." Matt just looked at his wife. "Right after he freaks out and worries that you're hurt, which may lead to him being mad at me for letting it happen on my watch." Gabby laughed, as he most certainly did know her brother. "Yeah, you know my brother pretty well." Matt agreed with his wife, as he most certainly does. "Gabby, we've been married for almost eleven months now. And we've been together almost three years. God, I still remember asking for your hand in marriage to both your father and brother." Grabbing Matt's hand when he said that, Gabby smiled as she liked that he did that. "And that was a very nice thing to do." Matt agreed.
Not that he wasn't going to do it, especially not when both her brother and father scare the crap out of him. "You know that they both scare the crap out of me. So, why wouldn't I do that?" Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware that was the case. "Oh, I know that you're scared of them don't worry." Matt smiled, agreeing with the woman he loves. "Still, I think it'd be better if you were the one that called your brother so that he isn't all worried when he gets here. That way, he knows that you're okay…that we're both okay; and that the reason he's coming here isn't due to the fact that one of us are hurt, but it's a police matter." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware that would happen the moment he calls her brother. "You know my brother so well." Matt agreed with his wife as he said that, only to get close to her again and smirk as he leaned in and kissed the woman he loves softly prior to whispering to her. "Just like I plan on getting to know your body much better next time we're at home." Gabby smirked, well aware that was true.
After all, they've recently decided that it's just time for them to try. Yes, they already said they want to wait, but they just want to try and see what happens. "I'm glad we decided to start trying." Matt agreed with his wife. "It's just better to start sooner rather than later considering how big of a family we want." Gabby agreed with her husband, well aware that was the case. "And I promise, we're going to have that big family you want to have. I mean that with my entire heart." Matt agreed with his gorgeous wife and smiled since he loves her more than anything. After which, he got close to her and just smiled as he leaned in and kissed the woman he loves softly. "I love you." Gabby agreed with her dreamy husband, as she loves him too. "I love you too, and I am so glad that we're on this track now." Matt agreed with his wife, smirking as he walked away and went to go to his office. "Can you let me know when Antonio gets here?" Gabby agreed with her husband, as that's precisely what she plans on doing for him.
An hour later, when Antonio is at the firehouse:
Taking a breath when he walked into the house, Antonio was just worried as he had no idea why he was summoned here. But, he could only guess that either (a) his brother-in-law did something stupid and he needed to be spoken to by someone other than his sister, or (b) the two of them are in a fight and they need a "neutral" third party to help them out (not that he was neutral). He's just glad that his sister was already out here when he got here, as he wanted to hear the story from her first rather than her husband. "What did Casey do now?" Turning to look at Antonio, Gabby laughed as she heard Antonio say that. "Wow, you go right to my husband having done something stupid?" Seeing Antonio through the window of the firehouse, Matt came out right away, which led to him hearing what Gabby said and making a comment. "Of course, he does. He hates the fact that his sister found happiness with a firefighter, rather than a cop." Turning his head when he heard Matt say that, Antonio was surprised. "I never…"
Gabby just looked at her brother. "Remind me why you gave Jay Halstead my phone number, six months into my relationship with Matt when you knew he was already looking at engagement rings for me?" Matt then added on. "And you gave me your blessing, which I didn't need to ask for since you aren't Gabby's father!" Antonio sighed, as he knew that he made a mistake when it came to that. "Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Sorry about that." Matt agreed with Antonio. "So, what's the reason why I was summoned here?" Matt sighed. "I need to talk to you about a cop." Antonio looked at his sister. "Seriously? This is why you called me here? To get your husband out of trouble with the law? Gabby, that's not…" Matt just looked at Antonio. "Toni! Do you really think I would ask my wife to abuse her relationship with you just for that?" Turning his head, Antonio realized that. "Right." Matt agreed, nodding.
After which, he took a breath. "It's about a call we had a couple shifts ago. DUI left scene out of the blue. Cop said that he had no choice but to let him go because of his father." Antonio agreed. "Who's his dad?" Matt then went to say his last name, which made Antonio cringe. "Voight." Shaking his head, Antonio showed that sense he got in the bottom of his stomach. "Oh boy." Turning her head, Gabby got worried. "What's the problem?" Antonio sighed, looking at his brother-in-law. "Voight's a dirty cop. He's been hip deep in the gang unit for 15 years and investigated for taking bribes. When I say he's dirty Matt, I mean it; he's the type of cop that gives the rest of us a bad name." Matt agreed. "Ok. Well, I saw what I saw." Antonio agreed. "Ok. Well, wait for me to talk to you guys. You're family, and I don't want to see you get hurt, which can happen if you go at this guy the wrong way." Gabby just got nervous when she heard her brother say that, prior to grabbing her husband's hand and intertwining their fingers to hold him.
Meanwhile, Matt turned his head as he sensed her nervousness when she grabbed his hand; so, he stroked it with his thumb as a way to try and get her to relax. "Hey, I'm okay." Matt said, prior to getting close to his wife and pressing his lips to her forehead. "We'll be okay, I promise." Gabby agreed with her husband, until they heard the firehouse receptionist come out. "Captain Casey!" Turning their heads, Matt, and Gabby both looked at her. "Chief wants to see you in his office." Matt and Gabby both agreed. "We'll be right there." She agreed, prior to walking away. Meanwhile, Matt let Gabby's hand go and went to hug Antonio. "Thanks for your help." Antonio agreed. "Anytime." Getting close to Gabby again, Matt proceeded to grab her hand and intertwined their fingers to lead her inside. After which, he just took a breath as he proceeded to kiss her hand. "You okay?" Gabby just looked at her husband. "I think you may need to worry more." Matt agreed with Gabby, as he was thinking the same exact thing as his wife. "Thought so."
Chief Boden's Office – They decided to go see Chief Boden together, rather than go alone due to the fact that it's how they like to deal with things. They deal with things together, just like they're doing with her problems with the CFD. Now, they're going to deal with this together. "Hey Chief, hope it's okay I brought Gabby." Chief agreed with Matt. "Well, the reason I called you here is because of the T-Bone last shift." Turning her head, Gabby looked at her husband. ."Yeah, I got it. I've been buried in paperwork." Boden agreed. "On my desk by the end of the shift." Staying silent, Matt got a bit worried. "is that going to be a problem?" Matt shook his head, as it won't be a problem. "It won't be a problem sir." Matt then turned around to go walk away, thinking that Gabby would come with him. "Matt, I need to talk to Boden, if that's ok?" Matt agreed, prior to walking away so that he can get to work. Meanwhile, Boden looked at his paramedic. "Is this about your problems with the board?" Gabby sighed as she went to close his door to talk to him.
After all, this is serious. "Listen Chief, you know Matt. You know he doesn't like to get you involved." Boden agreed, as he sat up. "What is it?" Gabby sighed. "There's a reason why he hasn't gotten that report to you, and you need to know because I'm worried." And that was when Boden got worried. "Ever hear of a cop named Voight?" And just like that, Boden got worried. "Oh, lord. What does he have to do with this?" Gabby sighed. "His son. He was the driver of the vehicle with the DUI. So…there's a lot more that he needs to deal with other than just the report. You know Matt, he likes to make sure that his entire scene is cleaned up. He told the cops to make the arrest, but they let him go because of Voight and…" Boden already understood. "He isn't a fan of that." Gabby nodded. "We just spoke to my brother, and he warned us not to do anything that could provoke him. So, if it's okay…" Boden agreed with Gabby. "Tell your husband that I get it." Gabby agreed, appreciating that he understands the situation they find themselves in right now.
That's when Gabby got a text message from a source at the hospital. 'You remember that victim you transported? Hockey tournament?' Gabby was confused, until she saw it was Hallie. 'Hallie, not the time. You know what me and Matt said.' Hallie then texted back. 'Gabby, I know I'm a pain. But, I saw Voight here looking for information. He asked what firehouse responded to the scene since he doesn't know where Casey works.' Gabby agreed, as she went to text her back. 'You tell him?' Hallie sighed. 'One of the nurses did. I recognized him, because Matt had troubles with him in the past. Sorry, I hope I'm not overstepping but…I need to let you guys know. He was here because he got reports that the victim in the car crash is paralyzed.' Gabby then got worried. 'How bad?' Gabby then got the answer. 'Complete L2 Fracture, Waist Down. Just thought I'd let you guys know. I still care for him Gabby. That's all. I thought you'd want to know.' Gabby agreed with Hallie. 'Keep me in the loop? Thanks Hallie.' Gabby then put her phone down.
After which, she looked at Chief Boden. "Things just got a lot more complicated." Chief Boden looked up at Gabby when she said that. "What is it?" Gabby bit her lip. "It's a complete L2 fracture. The victim is paralyzed from the waist down." Boden agreed. "Wow." Gabby then realized something. "I need to go tell Matt. Sorry Chief." Chief agreed. "I promise, I'm going to make sure to protect him Gabby." Gabby agreed with her Chief, well aware that he was going to do just that; now, for her to talk to her husband. "Gabby?" Turning her head, Gabby looked at Chief. "Tell him to take his time with the report. This is serious and the situation is developing. I'll wait for the report to make sure that it's done right." Gabby agreed, appreciating that. "Boden, you have no idea how much I appreciate that. Matt's going to need time to do it right." Boden agreed, well aware that was the case.
Casey's Office – He was working on the report that Boden asked him for, since it was what he needed to do right now as he was on a deadline. A deadline that he thought Gabby would understand, but she clearly didn't as she came knocking on his door. Though, he didn't care as he's always in for a bit of time with his wife. So, he reached out as he watched her open his door. "Hey." Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that. "Listen, we need to talk." Matt agreed. "What is it?" Gabby sighed. "Hallie just texted me." Matt got scared when he heard that. "What does she want now?" Gabby shook her head. "It's ok. It's Voight. He just went there and went to find out information on the victim. Hallie got spooked when he asked her about information about you. She told me some information on the patient." Matt agreed with Gabby as she made her way over to him and sat in his lap. "Complete L2 Fracture. Paralyzed from the waist down." Leaning back when he heard that, Matt shook his head as that was the last thing he wanted to hear. "Oh, shit."
Placing her hand on Matt's face, Gabby agreed with her husband and kissed him; only to lean her forehead against his. "Are you okay?" Matt sighed as he looked at his wife. "I'm nervous now." Gabby agreed with Matt, until he saw someone walk by. "Hey, we just got a TV donation!" Looking at them when they said that, Matt just looked at Gabby. "That can't be a coincidence. Voight goes to the hospital and learns the patient is paralyzed, then he gives us a TV? The house where the guy who can send his son to jail works?" Gabby sighed, well aware that this was getting scary. So, they both decided to get up so that they can go see whether Matt was right; whether the TV was from Voight, or whether it was truly random.
Coming out onto the apparatus floor, the entire firehouse looked at the TV that was just delivered: a 43' LCD TV. And let's just say the entire firehouse was happy, but Casey was worried. "Who's it from?" He asked the moment he came out of the firehouse with Gabby and Chief Boden right behind him. "Detective Voight, he saw your sign. Sent it to the city but specified that it comes here." Looking at the delivery drivers, Matt shook his head as that wasn't happening; so, he ordered them to take it back. "Take it back." And let's just say that nobody was happy, even when the delivery drivers told them that it was cleared and there was a good paper trail. Yet, Casey insisted. "Send it back." He said once more, as he wasn't accepting it at his firehouse; though, his truck wasn't as happy. "Casey." Matt just looked at Andy. "Either the TV goes, or you guys do two laps around the block. The entire truck got worried and just agreed. "Send it back." The delivery driver agreed, while Chief Boden looked at Matt. "What's that all about?" Matt sighed.
After which, he explained. "Do you really think it's just a coincidence that we get a TV from him, right after he learned that the kid has a complete L2 Fracture? And that I'm going to submit a report on it?" Boden then realized that. "You think it was a bribe?" Matt agreed. "Firehouse 51! Listen up!" Everybody turned around to look at Matt. "Listen, I want to talk to you guys about something that you all need to know about that situation." Everybody agreed, while Gabby made her way over to her husband and grabbed his hand. "You guys all remember the crash, right?" Everybody agreed. "Well, the driver of the car was Detective Voight's son." Kelly and Andy both got worried, as they knew all about Voight. "You mean, the same…" Matt agreed. "And I just learned that the kid has a complete L2 fracture, which means that I Hold a lot of power in my hands right now." Everybody agreed. "I'm writing up the report, which could lead to his son being charged with a DUI or more. That there was a bribe, and I am not going to be swayed."
Everybody agreed. "So, I don't want to hear bitching or complaining right now. Mouch, I get you want a new TV. Well, you know what…I don't want to be in this situation. I don't want to be dealing with a dirty cop during my first year of marriage and new time as a Captain. We just lost Otis a month and a half ago, and I am not putting this house at risk. I spoke to my brother-in-law, Antonio. He said that Voight is a dirty cop, and I don't trust him whatsoever. What you guys saw as a gesture, I see as a bribe and a warning shot. Voight is getting desperate, as he wants me to let his son go quietly. I am telling you all right now. It may sting that I sent the TV away, but you'll be thanking me in the long run when you don't need to watch TV on a 42-inch that we only had because a kid got paralyzed from the waist down, and a dirty cop wanted to shut me up. If you want a TV so bad, pool your money and go buy one for the firehouse. But under no circumstances are we accepting donations right now because I am not doing that." Everybody agreed.
Meanwhile, Matt looked at Boden and Gabby. "Let's get Antonio back down here before he gets too far away. We're talking with him and Chief Boden this time." Gabby agreed with her husband, as that's precisely what they need to do: talk together as a group.
Chief Boden's Office – He was back, back to keep this conversation going about the situation that they find themselves; but this time, Antonio wasn't just talking with his family. Rather, he was talking with both his family and their boss, Chief Boden. And he could tell based on the Battalion Chief's body language that he wasn't too pleased that he wasn't in the loop from the start. "Listen, Chief Boden. Before we begin, I just want to say this. Yes, I understand that this is your firehouse; however, I was just here giving advice to my sister and her husband. They asked me for information, and I didn't expect it to go any further." Matt agreed with Antonio. "Honestly, I was hoping to keep Boden out of it; but, then the whole TV situation unfolded." Antonio agreed with his brother-in-law. "I saw the box. Dude, I hate to say this; but, I would've accepted the TV." Gabby looked at her brother as he said that, as that was the last thing she wanted to hear. "Toni! That's a bribe. Are you trying to make my husband one of Voight's pawns, or his next victim?"
Hearing his sister ask him that, Antonio got worried as that was the last thing he wanted to do; especially since he knew that would end with him getting hurt. If his brother-in-law gets hurt because of this situation, he knows for a fact that his sister is going to come for him; hell, maybe even his parents may come after him due to the fact that they don't want to see their baby girl hurt. "Now, about this situation. You mean to tell me that nobody else saw his kid drunk?" Antonio snickered. "Hell, yes. Everybody saw his kid drunk. There's just nobody with the guts to go against him in the department." Boden was not happy. "Well, I would rather not have it where my guy is the only one that gets hurt here." Hearing things get a bit tense between his chief and brother-in-law, Matt decided to interject. "Hey, hey. Let's just calm down. Chief, let me remind you who we're talking about here. Boden, you're accusing my brother-in-law of wanting me to get hurt. I can assure you this, that's the last thing he wants." Antonio agreed with Matt, as that was true.
After all, his sister would kill him. "He's right chief. I mean, have you seen my sister in action? I may be a boxer, but my sister can beat me in the ring any day." Gabby agreed with her brother, as that most certainly is the truth. "And don't you forget it. If Matt gets hurt in any of this, you're next." Antonio agreed with his sister, well aware that was the case. "Of course, Gabby." Matt then took a breath as he turned to look at Antonio. "Did you hear what happened to the victim? The passenger in the other car?" Antonio agreed. "Yeah. How'd you find out?" Matt sighed. "My ex texted me. They sent him to Lakeshore." Antonio shook his head, prior to turning to look at his sister. "¿Tu marido todavía habla con su ex?" (Your husband still talks to his ex?) Looking at Antonio, Matt sighed. "Antonio, you know that I hate it when you do that. Please, talk in English." Antonio sighed. "I asked my sister if you still speak to your ex." Matt sighed. "I try not to. However, she saw my name on the report and knows all about Voight. The entire hospital knows about him."
Antonio agreed with Matt. "I mean it Antonio. Why would I cheat on Gabby when I have you as a brother-in-law?" Boden sighed, as this is the last thing he wants to have the two gentlemen in front of him talk about right now. "Gentlemen, can we concentrate on what we're talking about here? Right now, we're talking about this situation that I should've known about from the start." Matt agreed with Boden. "I get that Chief. But, I wanted to know what we were getting ourselves into. I wanted to get information from Antonio, so I knew everything before I told you. I didn't want to waste your time with something stupid." Boden agreed with Matt, as he appreciated that in hindsight, while Gabby stood behind her husband. "And Chief, you know that I would've told you if Matt was getting into a dangerous situation regardless of what he said. And he would've forgiven me because he knows that the last thing I want is for my future baby daddy to get hurt and lose his ability to make me a mother!" Matt laughed a bit as he heard Gabby say that.
Turning her head, Gabby wasn't amused. "Did you really just laugh about that?" Matt looked at his wife. "Nice to see that you're more concerned about me being able to get you pregnant, rather than just have me be alive." Antonio agreed with Matt. "Sorry sis, but that's how it sounded when it came out of your mouth. Sounded like you were more interested in having kids, than having your husband be alive." Gabby agreed with Antonio, before looking at Matt. "Hey, Matt. I'm sorry it came out that way. You know that I want you to be alive, more than us having kids." Matt agreed with his wife. "We can talk later. Right now, I need to concentrate on this, please." Gabby agreed with her husband, clearly able to see that he was a bit worried. "Do you want me to step out?" Matt shook his head. "No, of course not." Gabby agreed as she got close to him and grabbed his hand, only to intertwine their fingers. "Ok. Back to what we were talking about…again." Boden agreed. "So, everybody saw him drunk." Antonio agreed with Boden.
He then looked at his brother-in-law. "Listen, give me until the end of shift. I promise that I'll look into this. If I come up with nothing…which is highly unlikely, since Voight's been pulling his son out of things like this since he was fifteen…" Matt shook his head as he closed his eyes with dread, as he could only imagine the true number of victims that could be out there. The number of victims who Voight's hurt and who's lives have been affected by his ruthlessness. "…A lot of people had to look the other way. And I'm just telling you…as much as I know you want to do this Matt. In my opinion, you should stay out of this. For your sake…" Turning his head, Antonio looked at his sister. "…and for my sister's sake." And just then, it got real for the husband and wife. Turning his head to look at Gabby after thinking for a moment, Matt just started to wonder whether they were at risk, and whether this was worth it. Whether he was truly willing to risk what he has with Gabby. And that's starting to scare him.
He couldn't get the last sentence Antonio told them before leaving out of his head: for his sister's sake. For the sake of his wife. Was he really willing and ready to continue down this path, simply due to the fact that he knew it was the right thing to do? How can he go ahead and do this, when it could easily hurt his wife. And that's precisely why he was currently in the locker room, taking a moment alone as he looked at the pictures he has in his locker; pictures of them on the day of their wedding, of the day they got engaged. And then, he looked at his wedding band. The wedding band he's wearing because he's vowed to love and protect her for the rest of his life. And now, because of what his brother-in-law told him, he just realized that he may be failing at doing that, which is why he needs to talk to someone other than his wife. Something his best friend could clearly see as he walked into the locker room. "Something's up with you, Casey." Turning his head when he heard Andy, Matt sighed as there was something up with him. "It's nothing."
Andy just looked at his best friend, prior to telling him where he got his intel. "Gabby." Looking at him when he said his wife's name, Matt sighed. "Let me guess, she told you what was going on?" Andy agreed with Matt, as she did. "Yep. And so did Antonio as he walked out of here. So, I got both of their sides. Now, based on what I'm seeing you do; I want to hear your side. And I think that we both know I'm the only one you can really talk to right now." Matt sighed. "I'm the only one who's married and around your age, who isn't also your brother-in-law." Matt sighed, as he knew that this would be a good thing to do: talk to someone independent of his family. "You already heard some of it when I told you guys to return the TV." Andy agreed with Matt as he said that. "I was shocked, to tell you the truth. And then I heard you say that we had to do two laps if we didn't send it back, so I knew that something was wrong. Matt, you can't lie to me when I already know something's wrong. So, talk to me. Or else, I'll get Gabby and it'll be worse."
Matt laughed, as he knew that was the truth. If he got his wife involved, then she would go much harder on him. "So, let's go over this again. The crash. The driver, it was Detective Voight's son?" Matt agreed. "His breath smelt like alcohol. Hell, it smelt like a bar. He was so drunk, and we spoke to Hallie." Andy was surprised when he heard Matt say that. "Sorry, did I just hear you say that you spoke to your ex? Wait, does Gabby know?" Matt agreed. "Yeah, she called Gabby. She wanted to let me know that Voight came in looking for the patient she brought in. She knows that me and Gabby are married, and I told her in the past to stay away from that detective. She put two and two together. Remember, she's a smart cookie since she's a doctor." Andy agreed with Matt. "Yeah, I know what you mean." Matt sighed. "I'm just worried. I mean, this guy is scary. And I'm worried that he's going to dig deeper." Andy was confused. "Wait, do you have something in your past?" Matt shook his head. "Dude, my mom is in jail, remember?" Andy realized that.
After all, he's a cop. "Which means that he could affect you there." Matt then turned his head and looked at Gabby. "And, with Gabby riding around the city in Ambo 61….he could always cut her off and hurt her." That's when Matt heard someone come into the locker room. "Oh Casey, Casey. Why in the world would I do that? Why would I cut off Truck 81?" Turning their heads, Matt, and Andy both looked at Voight when he came in here. "What are you doing in here?" Voight smirked. "Hey bud, how about you let me talk to your Captain." Andy just looked at Matt. "Either he stays, or I get my Chief involved." Voight just looked at him. "Fine. Well, here's the thing. You're going to retract that statement you just made to that cop. Dawson." Matt looked at Voight when he said that. "How did you get that already?" Voight smirked. "His sergeant owed me a favor. I get tabs on my son's investigation." Matt shook his head. "I will not change my testimony." Voight looked at him when he said that. "Oh yes, you will. Or else, I'll make sure your wife goes to jail for assault on that little girl she hurt in the ambulance." Shocked, Matt didn't even know that he knew that. "It's either Justin or Gabby."
And that was when he just pushed too far. So, Matt walked over to Voight and punched him in his face. "You keep my wife's name out of your mouth!" Hearing commotion in the locker room, both Boden and Gabby came into the locker room to see that Matt just hit Voight. "You had no right to invade my wife's privacy! To find out what she did. That is private, CFD records! And she did it while doing her job, which is what I did. It's my job to keep this city safe from idiots like your son who could've killed a little boy! Well, he's paralyzed now! Oh, and keep my mom's name out of your mouth too!" Andy then went to hold Matt back. "Matt…" Matt just looked at Voight. "You threaten my wife again, and you're the one who's going to go to jail." Matt said, getting really mad. At the same time, Gabby walked over to her husband. "Hey, hey. Take a breath." Wrapping his arm around Gabby, Matt kissed the top of her head. After which, he watched as Voight walked away. After all, he doesn't belong here; just like he and Gabby at the moment.
Looking at Chief Boden, Matt went to tell him what he was doing. "Call in two floaters. I'm not staying here after he threatened me and Gabby." Boden agreed with Matt, as he could see the fear in his Captain's face. "Of course." Turning around, he went to go call in some floaters. Meanwhile, Matt looked at Gabby. "Listen, I'm sorry I did that without asking you but…" Gabby just looked at her husband. "Hey, hey. Look at me." Gabby said, while stepping close to the man of her dreams. "I get it. I get that you're scared, nervous and that you just want to do what's best for us. And right now, that's precisely what you're doing. That guy just threatened us, and the last place I want to be is a place where he knows where we are." Gabby agreed with her husband as he told her that, just holding him close to her as she could tell her was scared right now. If anything, they were both scared out of their minds that they were going to get hurt. And that's precisely why they can't be here right now, not when they're being threatened.
