Electro magnetism was one of the building blocks of the universe itself. It was one of the most important things that truly existed, and one of the founding primal forces of reality.
At a first glance, without knowing just how the properties of electricity and lightning could be manipulated Daiki's semblance was incredibly powerful, but simple and straight to the point.
That could not be farther from the truth.
It was only in the hands of someone that actually knew how physics worked, that his semblance could show its true power.
The most basic of all-
Being the interaction between positive and negative charges.
"…This is incredible." Daiki couldn't help but grin massively, taking in just what he had achieved. It had taken an entire night of practice after getting his training in, but by the next morning after he'd taken Ruby out on their date and revealed the secret of her eyes to her-
He found himself standing upside down in his home workout room.
Standing on the ceiling.
By applying a negative charge to something with his semblance, and then giving himself a positive charge through it, he could attract himself to said objects, in this case, it would allow him to stand basically on any surface, in any direction even upside down like this.
With this he could even walk up the side of a mountain if he so desired, hell with enough application he could possibly even walk across water, maybe even fly.
Though, that was something that would take a while, if not to work out, then because of the sheer amount of charge he'd have to be capable of producing, he'd never be able to keep it up for any period of time with the current reserves of aura he had.
'I'd probably have an easier time making a railgun or something.' Daiki snorted to himself as he cut off the charge of his semblance and fell to the ground, flipping over to land on his feet.
Breakfast time? He idly wondered.
He'd been up all night working on training with his semblance and had finally found the perfect balance on it to split it between positive and negative charges.
He wasn't all that tired though, the excitement of his accomplishment had washed away any of the building up fatigue.
"Yeah, breakfast it is." Daiki hummed, leaving his work out room behind and making his way to the kitchen.
Besides, he had quite a bit to think about, and had to come up with some plans for going forward.
He began making a nice protein filled breakfast moments later, filled with plenty of eggs as his mind wandered.
He had a plan for making a massive name for himself, making a massive amount of lien and becoming massively famous all in one. He would be the pioneer of an all new energy source.
A world wide, revolutionary feat.
…The problem was, that was more of a long term plan.
For one, he couldn't exactly just easily get into contact with who he needed. Who, being none other than General James Ironwood. He was not only a fair man, but one more or less leading the charge to protect the world from Salem. On top of that, he not only had the assets to allow Daiki's plan to flourish, but the power and influence to make sure he couldn't be exploited by others.
There was no way someone like Ironwood though, would be accepting business meetings and proposals from some random kid from an entirely different country or continent more or less.
Quite frankly, his only hope of getting into contact with the man, was probably through Qrow getting him an audience with Ozpin or something.
…Or he supposed he could go straight to Atlas. There was one guy that was easy to meet there, who was heavily involved with Ironwood who might be able to get him into contact with the man.
Pietro, the father and creator of Penny.
And before any of that could even happen, he needed to created at least some workable practical examples.
Some would be cheap, some not so much.
Making a miniature versions of say windmills or watermills, wouldn't be too hard. What would, would be making a battery or generator that could store the electricity, and other such things. And of course he'd need to work on specific wiring and such himself for electricity to travel through.
He knew how to construct all that really, for the most part, there was a science fair project he'd worked on with his professor a few months before he ended up here that that gave him some practical experience with it.
All the materials together though, accounting for mistakes along the way, wouldn't exactly be cheap.
'And I'm going to be giving away roughly seventy percent of my savings to Qrow soon as well.' Daiki mused, as he finished up making breakfast and took his plate to the kitchen table to begin munching upon it.
And he would still need to keep some to live on.
…Which meant he needed money, and lots of it. There was taking missions to kill grimm he supposed, but most places that put the missions out weren't actually all that close to Vale, and would require him to either pay for a bullhead to get there or make the trekk there which could take days at a time, depending on how far away it was.
He'd done a few before, so he knew he could definitely do it. And it was more or less stable, but he just wasn't capable of taking on the ones that could let him rake in the big bucks.
Things like bands of beringel, a rampaging goliath, a murder of nevermore lead by a giant one. Those were beyond his pay grade right now.
…Well if he played his cards right he could probably take down a single goliath or two, it would require more experimentation with his semblance though.
Depending on what he used as a projectile, a railgun could have the power to take one down.
Though that would be a completely different matter once he managed to use the second part of his semblance on a Sea Feilong.
Granted, he didn't know how long it would take Qrow to find one.
Either way, he couldn't just wait around for that to happen. Knowing how competent Qrow was, it shouldn't take him all that long to find one, but Daiki just didn't want to wait around either.
He'd rather be a little proactive on his own. And not waste any time.
The grind that was life waited for no man.
…He supposed there was always the shadier part of things. People like Junior probably had need of some real strong muscle. He had those cute twins, but even with a full gang of thugs backing them up alongside Junior himself, Xiao Long had pushed their shit in.
If she could do that, so could he. Xiao Long was pretty durable and some mean endurance to go with her semblance, but she was easy to bait, and sucked at dodging because she relied on her semblance.
…Not that he had any room to talk there considering his entire fighting style revolved his semblance, but still.
He couldn't beat Ruby not even close at the moment, but he could definitely beat Xiao Long. Granted, he was one of the worst opponents for her because he could simply play keep away and blast her with lightning from afar, but still.
So yeah, he could probably get some decent paying jobs from Junior pretty easily. And he would probably be a good way to make other connections, especially in the underworld.
Beyond that though-
"Should I try it out?" Daiki mused to himself, pausing in his eating, laying his work down and staring up at the ceiling.
He'd had the thought idly yesterday when thinking about Xiao Long and her motorcycle, and more during the night while he experimented and trained with his quirk.
Could he recharge dust crystals?
Specifically lightning dust crystals?
It had never occurred to him before he gained the memories, or rather more aptly merged with his other self and they became one being, because dust was just a big fact of life and he had no education beyond the basics and being a warrior.
But now that he did, the possibility wouldn't leave him alone. If he could, not only would he never need to buy any other lightning dust ever again, but if he could, depending on how much power it took…
He could sell them on the cheap in bulk to dust traders and make some real good cash.
"Well, there's no harm in trying it out I guess." he shrugged to himself, it wasn't like it was going to hurt him to try at least.
Picking up his fork again, he dug into the meaty protein filled breakfast, downed a nice big glass of protein shake, and then tossed his plate, glass and cutlery in the sink.
He'd clean em' later.
Honestly, he needed a god damn maid. He was a messy bugger to be honest. A live in one if possible that could take care of his daily necessities like cleaning, preparing food and such.
…Of course for that he would need extra funds.
Honestly, he needed extra funds for a lot of things. Like, he'd always wanted a swimming pool and had the space for it, but the cost wouldn't be pretty.
Shaking his head, Daiki made his way to the storage cabinet in the centre of the home. It was where the power outlet was. It was a simple thing, with docks for inserting lightning dust.
Four outputs, for four crystal to power the entire house. Grade 1 lightning dust made for homes, two dust crystals per pack. So two were needed to be bought to fill up all four when they all ran out, and they could generally power his house for two to three weeks depending on how much time he spent on the computer, television and such.
He was pretty good for keeping electronics he didn't need off to save money. He was a responsible kid.
…Or was at least.
His other self was a bad influence. He himself actually was a bad influence on himself.
…What did that even say about him?
Shaking his head, his eyes went to small garbage bin he had in the storage closet underneath the main power system of the house.
Filled with small cardboard boxes, which were in turn filled with empty dust crystals.
One thing that a lot of people didn't grasp, was that dust crystals themselves were still dust. They weren't some container made for them, but dust themselves, just without anything capable of powering anything any longer.
He reached in and pulled out one of the cardboard boxes containing two empty dust crystals.
The bin was filled to the limit nearly actually, and there was bang on ten cardboard containers, including the one he just picked out.
So that was twenty empty grade one lightning dust crystals.
"Alright, let's see how this works out." Daiki hummed, taking out one of the empty dust crystals and holding it between two fingers.
His semblance sparked to life around his fingers and he kept it very low powered, directing it into the dust crystal at a steady rate.
The dust crystal vibrated ominously for a second, and Daiki's aura flared up around him on instinct as he thought it was going to explore into sharp shards of dust-
But as he did, he instinctively lowered the output of his semblance, and it stopped.
And then…before his eyes, a dull yellow glow formed at the bottom of the empty dust crystal, before growing larger and brighter, spreading through the small grade one crystal.
And moments later, he was done.
And in his grasp, was what was definitely a grade one home style lightning dust crystal.
His eyes widened, "….Holy shit…." he gaped.
He actually could do it, holy shit!
Holy shit!
Holy shit!
He could recharge lightning dust, that was insane! Incredible, out of this world even!
Wait, he had to check something.
"Status!" he barked out.
Name: Daiki Yurei
Age: 14
Aura Capacity: 961/971
Magic Power: -/-
Strength: 10.07/100
Endurance: 10.08/100
Durability: 10.06/100
Agility: 10.05/100
CQC: 23.08/500
Weapon Wielding: 35.08/500
Aura Control: 40.19/500
Semblance:
Lightning King Revolt: You are capable of augmenting your body, enhancing your speed, agility, reaction time and physical strength by converting your aura into electricity and can freely expel lightning from your body. You are capable of subjugating any single being you kill, gaining a portion of their abilities for your own and gaining the ability to summon them to fight for you. You can only use the subjugation effect once.
…There it was.
And it had cost even less than he thought it did. Ten points out of his total nine hundred and seventy one aura capacity score.
That meant he could fill up ninety seven of those grade one lightning dust crystals. And since there was two to a pack, that would make it forty eight packs he could recharge.
And his total aura amount generally recharged at a rate that would go to max from zero, three times a day.
…So that was what, one hundred and forty four packs worth of grade one lightning dust crystals he could recharge a day.
At their max price of twenty lien per pack, that….two thousand, eight hundred and eighty lien.
Of course he couldn't sell them at that price. But he could probably sell them for seventy five percent….or at least fifty he was sure to dust traders.
So a thousand four hundred and forty lien worth then by his estimates, a thousand at least.
"Holy…fuck, my semblance is fucking amazing." Daiki's face twisted up into a massive excited grin.
Well, even more amazing than it already was.
And the number he could do would only increase as time went on as his aura capacity grew!
'Man if I had Jaune Arc with his semblance on hand, I could charge an infinite amount of them…' Daiki realised a moment later. With his semblance that could recharge others aura, and the ability to recharge his own, he could continuously refill Daiki's aura.
Infinite lightning dust.
Too bad he had no idea where that guy was right about now, nor was he anywhere close to being able to use his semblance either.
Well, that sucked, but oh well, this was still amazing regardless!
All things considered, it actually didn't take Daiki all that long to fill up all twenty grade one lightning dust crystals.
He didn't really have anything he could do with them right now though, so he just stacked the cardboard containers up in the storage closet. They'd do for an already prepared stock for powering his home, they would last a good few months at least.
And pretty much just saved him two hundred lien.
'Stonks be rising, stonks be rising.' he snorted to himself as he left his home behind. It was time to get proactive.
And what better way-
Than to go hit up the huntsmen student mission boards. At the end of the day, he wasn't quite as stupid as Xiao Long as to walk right into a gang affiliated and owned bar.
Or well, it was closer to a mafia really.
But stronger than any of them or not, and confident he could crush them even easier than Xiao Long herself did, didn't mean it was something he should just waltz into without thinking or preparing for a possible fall out.
Just because they didn't have the strength to beat him, didn't mean they didn't have the money to put a hit out on him, and Xiao Long probably already had one on her in the other timeline, it just never came to anything because Vale got fucked over by Cinder and her posse.
"Nor can I just expect anything immediate if I go hit up from Dust Till Dawn." Daiki hummed to himself as he made his way to his destination.
He might be lucky and it could, but he wasn't the type to rely on luck, so that really left only one option for him.
Doing some student huntsmen missions, It was the most stable and immediate of things he could take part in. And the combat experience from them, was something he needed as well.
The more the better really.
There was another little thing about his semblance that was neat. It wasn't all that incredibly useful, or a super powerful effect or something.
But it was still helpful.
Even when not using his semblance, his bodies bio electricity was a little bit stronger than normal peoples. And constantly, he emitted a small field of it in the immediate vicinity of his body.
It was no more than half his forearm in length from his body in all directions, but allowed him to generally feel electro magnetic waves.
It was specifically why he could actually change the charge of his semblance, otherwise it would have been total guess work. He hadn't thought much of it before beyond that-
But it did come with a nifty little benefit.
He could feel the bio electricity of others bodies when they were in very close range to him.
…Like reaching into his back pocket where his wallet was contained.
Even when he couldn't see or hear anyone in his general vicinity.
His hand whipped back, wrapping around a thin dainty wrist and his head whipped around, and saw nothing, "Nice try." he smirked, feeling them tugging, but failing to pull away as he tightened his grip.
…Well now, this couldn't be who Daiki thought it would be, could it? He couldn't be this lucky, could he?
Even though he couldn't see anything, he felt as a limber leg rose up and shot straight for his head, a roundhouse aimed straight at his temple.
His other arm rose up and he caught it on his forearm, and he almost winced at the impact, there was quite a bit of force behind it.
It wasn't raw strength or anything though, it was the speed they kicked it, or rather going by the body build he could feel.
She could kick at.
Her arm against her legs, and her wrist caught with his other hand, Daiki's smirk widened. And his semblance blazed to life, crackling lightning covering his body, and running straight into her.
"Gah!" a distinctly female voice cried out, and before his eyes the air seemed to shimmer and a girl appeared in view.
Tall for a girl, and pretty with mint green air, ruby red eyes and dusky caramel skin.
Emerald Sustrai scowled at him, "How did you know?" she huffed, green aura hovering over her protectively as she dragged her foot back, and he let her.
She hadn't taken any damage from his semblance, but she definitely took a hit to her aura.
She was trying to distract him, obviously even as people in the street around them yelped or shouted and distanced themselves from the sudden fight.
It wasn't quite the Emerald Sustrai he was expecting though. Her hair was shorter than he was expecting, less full. And her outfit while similar, lacked the white of when she was with Cinder, and was worn and torn.
"Wouldn't you like to know," he snorted, "That's a nifty semblance you have there, would worked on anyone else too. But it isn't gonna do you much good from a jail cell I don't think."
Her eyes widened, and before narrowing.
A whistle sounded in his ears, and Daiki frowned, 'I heard it this time, how did she catch me with it before?' he wondered.
And completely ignored the massive form of an alpha beowolf leaping over the older girl towards him, claws outstretched and a snarl on its lips.
And went right through him.
Because it was an illusion.
If he didn't know it was an illusion beforehand however, he definitely would have been shocked and let her go.
Emerald growled, her other hand whipping to behind her and pulling free a ruddy brown gun, it was definitely her weapon from the other timeline, but the colour was all off.
…Had she not even met Cinder yet?
The gun was levelled at him in the blink of an eye, and a few rounds exploded outwards forcing him to let go of Emerald and juke to the side to avoid them.
And immediately she didn't waste any time in turning around and sprinting away at top speed.
She was fast, really fast, he noted.
Way faster than him, at least without his semblance. Hell, she could give Ruby a run for her money in pure speed.
For a moment, he was tempted to let her get away. Getting involved with her, or any of the villains from the series, or other timeline or whatever was a bad idea at the point where he was now, he needed to focus on himself and achieve his goals first and get strong enough before he wanted to deal with any of them.
….But Emerald was Cinder's greatest ace in the hole and the whole reason she even accomplished what she managed in the first place. And if he was right, and Emerald hadn't met her yet, then he could cut one of the biggest problems off here and now.
'In fact...this could be a real big benefit to me.' he thought, if he played it right at least.
His semblance crackled to life once more, and Daiki shot after her at blurring speeds, tearing down the street.
Who the hell was this kid!?
How did he catch her? How did he see through her semblance? She glanced over he shoulder and almost spat a curse when she saw him, freaking electricity crackling around his body as he tore down the freaking street after her!
'Give me a break fucking damnit!' Emerald howled in her head. She'd only picked this kid because he looked loaded, those weapons he was toting around on his back were bonafide atelsian steel! They had to have been worth at least ten grand or more!
And he had such an oblivious look on his face, she figured he was an easy mark. So she waited until he was crossing the road, with the beep of the traffic lights and disguised the use of her semblance with it so he wouldn't notice the whistle sound it made for targets it hit.
…Except nothing went to plan.
Heart beating in her chest, Emerald quickly juked down an alley and planned on losing him-
Only to skid to a halt and her eyes widening in horror when she found a massive wide wall at the other end, "Are you fucking serious right now!?" she growled.
Alley walls like this were usually small in Vale, trust her luck for her to run into one of the few that wasn't! Some rich bastard must have paid for it on the other side or something for privacy or whatever.
Bastards!
She whipped around, just in time to see the kid chasing her turn into the alley as well, and scowled deeply even as a deep fear filled her, she knew what happened to people like her that ended up in caught, she wasn't an idiot, she'd grown up on the street.
Her hands went to Thief's Respite, a pair of pistols that could mecha shift into chain kama's. They weren't hers, never had been, they were stolen. From the corpse of a bastard. A drop out from Signal that took to gang life and beat her down years ago before she had full control over her semblance. She'd had to sleep with him to get her life spared by him, giving up her virginity in the process, and then he planned to pimp her out.
She killed him in his sleep, like the idiot he was and took the weapons for herself.
"Buzz off kid, leave me alone unless you want a bullet in your head." she threatened, aiming her pistols at him.
"You're the one that stole from me you know." the kid just laughed, and he was definitely a kid, the crackling electricity around his body fading away and he didn't even bother to draw his weapons.
It was the slight bit of rounded baby fat in his cheeks that clued her in, making him look a bit baby faced compared to the rest of him.
The kid was tall, really tall, easily being six feet and he was built like a brick shit house, his biceps were absolutely massive and his shoulders were incredibly broad and rounded. But despite that, despite how finely cut his hair was into short wild black spikes and the gleaming black earring hanging from his left ear, she could tell he was a boy still.
She pegged him for around fifteen, maybe sixteen?
Lucky little bastard, the expensive weapons on his back, his clothing, the earring and his finely cut hair told her he'd never needed to worry about anything at all, not his next meal, how he'd survive to the next month, nothing.
"Yeah, well I failed didn't I?" she bit back, unable to hide her annoyance, "Not like you're gonna let it go with a sorry."
In response, the kid just laughed.
Laughed!
"Usually no, anyone else that tried that would get their face busted in with my fist," he continued laughing, "Not everyone is as cute as you though, or has such an interesting semblance. It's making me curious what a girl like you is doing being a petty thief."
It wasn't like it was her first choice.
This kids face and attitude was annoying her. He was handsome, for his age she supposed. And he had an incredible build, the same kind she used to long for in a big strong father figure in her dreams to come save her from the cold, lonely scary nights.
Give it a few years and he'd probably be an absolute behemoth. He'd probably make some lucky girl feel all safe and protected in the near future. Good for her she supposed.
And he was cocky as well, practically flirting with her there a bit.
"What's it to you?" Emerald bit out, shaking one of her pistols pointedly at him to remind him the situation they were in right now.
"Just that," he shrugged, and began walking towards her, completely unfazed by her weapons and, it made a spike of fear run through her. If he was that unfazed after her seeing her semblance, and now her weapons, then he must have been incredibly strong, and- "It seems like such a waste of such an incredible girl."
Emerald froze.
She'd been called a lot of things. Whore, slut, street rat, waste of space, leech, the works. She'd been beaten, stolen from, extorted, threatened with all manners of things ranging from being murdered to raped.
Nobody had ever called her incredible though.
Well, incredibly bitchy probably didn't count.
Alright, been a while with this one huh boys and girls? But here we are I guess, back with chapter 4. Yaaaaaaay? Or not. Who knows lmao. It is Rwby after all.
Honestly, I've really not got all that much to say about this chapter. It was mostly just going into a few of Daiki's plans and a realisation of his semblance. Power over lightning and electricity really is overpowered if you know what to do with it. Just look at best girl, Mikoto Misaka to see that. Am I right? Or am I right? Don't comment, I know I'm right, I'm the great Jord after all. The biggest take away here for this chapter, is probably the sheer fact he can recharge lightning dust crystals, which is a big game changer in of itself, or will be after a time.
So putting aside his plans and the semblance doohickey wickey pickey rickey. Bong bong. I like random words. I'm not crazy though, you're crazy!
Anyhooz, Emerald makes her appearance. To be honest a lot of stuff that goes down in my stories, like encounters and such are determined through dice rolls, so I make the plot for them right then and there, it was actually quite a lucky roll for Emerald, a DC of 80 on a dice roll of 1d100. It kind of means some of my plot in stories is left up to random dice rolls when it comes to encounters and such, but it's fun.
But yeah anyway, did you know that...apparently Cinder doesn't even meet Emerald until like two months before canon begins? Rooster Teeth, what the absolute fuck yo? Can't you even string a god damn consistent time scale? Honestly. But yeah anyway, here's Emerald from random chance
Welp, that's it for this chapter. As always if you wanna read ahead and see advance chapters quicker than they'll go up here, like ones for Jord Version, Systematic Shinobi, Seaside System, the works, you can check em' out on my Pa-atreon.
Anyway, again, shameless Pa-atreon plug. I've got one, go by the same username on there, easy to find and all that jazz. Support me if you want, it'd be swell, but don't feel pressured lads and ladies, I'll be uploading my stuff outside it regardless and not keeping it all behind a paywall or anything like that.
