Maizie's body jerked as her eyes snapped open. Pain blossomed at the edge of her mouth, and she groaned. She sat up and touched her lips. She pulled her hand back and blood tipped her fingers. She cursed. Her hand dropped and she looked around. The man had disappeared. She was alone. She stood up and walked over to the ledge. She was greeted with the sight of the creature dead, leaning against a building. The pollen floated in the air and the ground was covered in thick, green moss. She spotted Liz and Krauss. She teleported down. She appeared in front of Krauss who grabbed her as she stumbled out of her smoke.

"Are you alright, Agent?" Krauss asked as he spotted the blood on her lips.

Maizie nodded without a word. She stepped out of his grip and looked around. She joined Liz and Krauss followed. They looked at the rapidly growing foliage. A little bit later, a crowd started to form. They clamored as a few officers attempted to hold them back. Hellboy found his way back to them. He held the baby as the mother ran up to him.

"Oh, what have you done to my babe?" She cried as she pulled the baby from Hellboy's grasps.

"The baby's fine," Hellboy spoke to the woman's back as she fled.

Liz and the others turned and watched as a man called out to Hellboy.

"You freak!"

Reporters clamored and a cop pointed his gun at Hellboy. Another cop pointed his gun as well and Hellboy raised his arms. The second cop spoke up, "He's got a weapon in his hand."

Liz separated from the group and stood by Hellboy, "That is his hand." She stood in front of him, protecting him.

"Miss, stay away from him for your own safety," Another cop joined in, and Maizie stepped up. She stood in front of the mother holding her baby. She looked at the woman and jerked her head. The woman left the scene. Maizie stood between the two cops and the blonde princess stood behind her.

"He was trying to help. Don't you see?" Liz pleaded for their understanding. "He was just trying to help."

Liz stepped to his side and grabbed his stoned hand. People clamored in shock. More comments joined in then Hellboy jerked. Someone had thrown a little rock and cut into his chin. Maizie bristled as did Liz. Liz flamed up slowly. Maizie was sick of this. She knew why Hellboy exposed himself to the world. He was sick of being alone even if he never had been. She stepped forward to stand in front of Liz.

"Flame down Liz," She told her. Liz ignored her and Hellboy put a hand on her shoulder. Liz still had her flame as Maizie turned around.

"None of you have any idea of what's going on here," Maizie spoke up. "He has spent his entire life protecting every one of you." Maizie pointed to the mother who stood at a distance. "He just saved your baby, and you have the balls to act like he's the one who put your child in danger."

Liz powered down as Hellboy also put his hand on Maizie's shoulders.

"Maze, it's no point. Let's go home," He said.

Maizie looked around then found Abe. She met his eyes. She turned away from his eyes and the eyes of the others. She grabbed both Liz and Hellboy's hand. People gasped in shock as the grey smoke began billowing around their feet then went up. It enveloped them and they disappeared.

They appeared in Hellboy and Liz's room. Maizie stood as they pulled their hands out and looked around their surroundings.

"We're back home," Liz was surprised. Hellboy and Liz turned around in their spot then Liz spotted Maizie.

"Maze?"

Hellboy turned to Maizie. She was pale. The blood at the edge of her lips was bright against her skin. He jumped forward when her legs buckled. He kneeled with her and held her. Maizie's arms weakly around his.

"Hey," Hellboy whispered. "We got you."

Maizie stared blankly forwards, not seeing anything. "We're gonna fail."

"What are you talking about?" Hellboy asked as he pulled back and palmed her face to look at him.

"I saw it. He completed the crown. He obliterated the human race," she elaborated. "And he knows it. He saw it too. He…wants me."

Hellboy and Liz looked at each other. They didn't completely understand what she was talking about but the fear in what she said rose in them. Maizie slumped forward before they could ask her anymore questions. Her head thumped against his shoulder. The radio crackled between them, the voice asking them where they were. Liz stood up to answer as Hellboy slipped an arm under the unconscious woman's legs. He stood up and walked over to their bed. He set her down gently and covered her with the blanket.

"What are we gonna do?" Liz asked as she stood next to Hellboy and stared down at Maizie.

Hellboy shrugged, "What we always do."

A few hours later, everyone had come back to the BPRD. Hellboy and Liz updated on the others of what Maizie had seen. Abe had checked on her while she slept. He cleaned up her cut, careful not to physically touch her. He knew why she didn't want him touching her. She didn't want him to see what she had seen so he used a cloth to put a barrier between them. Then he left the room. He helped the princess to his library. Hellboy and Liz stood a distance away. Liz started the process of cleaning up his cut while Krauss was heading Manning's office.

"Agent Manning," Krauss called to him. Manning turned. He gestured Krauss in.

"Dr. Krauss," He spoke. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"I'd like to speak to you about Agent Myers," Krauss asked. "I've looked in her file already."

"Ahh yes, the agent you're replacing," Manning said.

Krauss looked at him, "I am not here to replace anyone. Least of all Agent Myers. I believe she is a capable agent."

"She was hired to protect him. She didn't do her job recently. Washington said you were next to replace her." Manning explained.

"Yes, Washington did say that, however I believe you are wrong," Krauss said as he raised his hand.

Manning cocked an eyebrow at him.

"I do not believe that you truly believe she is incapable of protecting Agent Hellboy. She was hired to protect him, not be his babysitter. He is capable of making his own choices. It is you who I believe did not do his job," Krauss said.

Manning sputtered but Krauss raised his hand to stop him. "It is your job to control Agent Hellboy and the others. You are the babysitter. In fact, you do not realize what Agent Myers has done for you. She protected you. She teleported you away from the scene. She put your safety above her own."

Manning was struck silent. He hadn't realized that perspective. When he had appeared in the truck, he was angry. He felt that he had been disobeyed. His orders ignored.

Krauss continued, "I came here to speak to you about her abilities, but I see that perhaps you do not know your charges as well as you think you do. I should go find Agent Sapien instead, as he is the smartest of all."

Krauss turned and left the room. He passed Liz in the hallway, who was leaving Hellboy's bedroom.
