It was later in the week on a morning in the Wachowski house as the news was on with it showing footage of a 25 year old redheaded man in a sweater vest, shirt and business pants smirking as he posed for pictures and shook hands with several individuals. "Having started his company WolfeTech during his final year at MIT; Maxwell Wolfe has grown a tech company that has developed new types of satellites and defence technology. This afternoon during a special ceremony which will be televised live; he promises to showcase a new invention of his company that he believes will help the US be the safest country in the world..." said the reporter as Tom and Maddie shook their heads.
"Sure; I believe it like I believe that the working conditions are great at his company. Do you know how many clients I have had that got me to help find evidence that health problems that they had experienced were the result of his company. Plus that family on his mother's side make me question where the money he started that company with came from..." Tom said shaking his head.
"I wonder if this ceremony will be like what Robotnik does when he showcases his newest weapon to the world; so pompous and wanting to be seen as a showman." Sonic mocked which got laughs from Tom and Maddie.
"Wonder what this invention could be... Could it actually be up to the hype that he is claiming?" Tails decided to ask intrigued but the Wachowski parents shook their heads and throughout this Cream just looked confused.
"I don't get it... His name is Wolfe and he doesn't look like any wolves we have on Mobius..." Cream asked and the Wachowskis were amused.
"Just his second name Cream." Jojo said as Cream was perplexed by the answer as this got the Wachowskis thinking.
"Wondering since I know Tails has Prowler but... Are surnames common on your world?" Maddie decided to ask as Sonic thought it over.
"Usually it just varies... Some goes by surnames and the rest either goes by whatever animal Mobian they are or just their one name." Sonic answered for them as they digested this.
"Could be confusing in a room with several people with the same name." Tom brought forth as Sonic just shrugged at the thought.
"How long are we watching this news junk? I am wondering if any of these channels have a comedy show and if any are on the level of Comedy Chimp?" Sonic then asked.
Inside the lab at WolfeTech; there were scientists working on models of a vest attached to a circular device while others were testing nanomachines controlled through headsets with the nanomachines moving about in a glass chamber. Wolfe then entered the lab looking agitated as he was on the phone; "Robertson... Look... I know the Board has been impatient but I just need this meeting to happen after today because trust me... All of the money problems will be as if they never existed..." Wolfe said and as the call ended looked like he was using all willpower to resist just throwing the phone away to smash it upon impact. "Get the NanoMac ready for my demonstration tonight..." Wolfe then told the scientists as one looked pleadingly at him as he then ran up to him.
"Mr Wolfe... I implore you to give us more time... The test results of the neural link is still inconsistent... Rage induced in patients and the affects of the nanomachines on their skin... It's just not ready and not to mention that the power sources quickly burns out..." the scientist told Wolfe who glared at him.
"This wasn't mean to be a conversation doctor and I can't afford to delay this any longer... The Board has been talking about kicking me out of the company that I built with my own two hands; the fossils wanting a young up and comer to fail... All that money wasted on settling with the test subjects and ingrates... We don't do this and WolfeTech is dead..." Wolfe then told him and grinned as he then went to the container of the Chaos Emerald as he used his ID card to have it open. "Besides... This is the solution to the power..." Wolfe then grinned as he then grabbed it as the scientist panicked.
"Sir... We don't know what the power source is capable off..." the scientist told him as Wolfe pushed him aside with his glare returning.
"I will just need to use and the NanoMac long enough to impress everyone; the Board, the pulbic and the rich investors including government and military officials who will give us enough funding to fix all the money problems... Plus bolster my rep using it in public..." Wolfe then snapped at him.
Later at a special stage and party set up at WolfeTech headquarters with all sorts of VIPs and press invited; there was loud rock music played as Wolfe made himself known to the audience as he posed to the applause. "Thank you... You are all too kind but we must get serious... The threats out there are very real from terrorists to enemy regimes as well as quite possibly an invader from another planet or some sort of manmade monstrosity..." Wolfe then said as he then got staff to present to him a pair of goggles, a headset and the NanoMac vest with the Chaos Emerald in it.
"A monstrosity? The real monstrosity here pal is that hairstyle pal..." Sonic snapped at the TV in the Wachowski house as he was watching with everyone else as they giggled at his comment.
"Definitely looks like he's the showman type as you said Sonic..." Tails said but his eyes widened as he noticed the glowing power source in the center of the vest. "Sonic is that..." Tails muttered as Sonic stood up looking serious.
"One of those Emeralds you were talking about..." Jojo asked as the Wachowskis all frowned upon noticing that Sonic was looking the most serious that they had seen him. "What's wrong Sonic?" Jojo asked surprised.
"This is headed for disaster; the Emeralds can be quite dangerous when misused; the effects can be unpredictable and affected by thoughts or something going wrong when used in a machine... Like them bringing us here..." Sonic explained as they looked freaked out.
"It takes some careful building when designing something that is intended to be powered by the Emeralds or when giving their power t othe a machine it has to be done carefully... Something both me and Robotnik have learned when first using them in our inventions..." Tails then continued to explain.
"But the one we have now... It's safe in that cooler we put it in... Right?" Tom asked concerned as Sonic looked ready to run.
"This is sure to go wrong; Tails are you up for some risk taking with me? If we break into that place then you could see about finding out about that NanoMac and what it does..." Sonic then asked Tails and he didn't even hesitate before nodding.
"You have something to protest about this Tom?" Maddie asked her husband expectedly as they saw on the TV; Wolfe having the turned purple nanites emerge form the vest and cover himself.
"I would but I am quite certain that we are watching a villian origin story play out live in real time on the news..." Tom then said as he then gave the two Mobians a reluctant nod to allow them to get up but also asking them to be careful.
Wolfe was now covered from head to toe in the nanintes that had the center of his body light prple, the rest dark blue but with light purple technologcial lines around his body including his face on a dome covering his head; the audience were in awe and clapped hard. "You now see before you the first live demonstration of the WolfeTech TM NanoMac MK 2.3! Using nanomachines this can be used to take control and disable most tech! Sattelites, locks, guided missiles and armies of tanks could be undone within an hour using a small select few wielding this bad boy!" Wolfe then explained as sent out to he stage were sevral armed drones which began firing at him with him taking on the bullets no problem.
Using the nanites he then extended his arm to grab at them and then disabled them without even lifting a finger to the awe of the audience who began clapping at him. The then took a bow but the Chaos Emerald began overloading the nanites and the NanoMac device causing a burst and he screamed as a burst of energy let out as the audience ran back.
However they looked back at him and began screaming as Wolfe managed to recover seamingly and face his fearful crowd; "Noting to worry about my wonderful audience... Just a little glitch but nothing too harmful..." Wolfe told them assuredly but looked down and found a knocked out body. He was confused but looked at it and was stunned to see his own body knocked out without the vest and the headset fried with it looking like his body was in a coma. It having falling out after the surge.
"What... What happened... How can this be... I'm Maxwell Wolfe and I'm looking at my body... Has my mind left my body..." Wolfe then asked scared as the guests were being evacuated as an intruder alarm was set off from a lab as security as well as the military forces began firing at him with him attacking in rage. Them calling in reinforcements for the 'NanoMac monster'.
Sonic had Tails hold onto him as he ran through the streets and foudn the building and then got to the the lab and sneaked past as the scientists had ran out. Tails connected the Miles Electric to a computer to hack in as they noticed the security feed on a monitor. "Looks like we came here just in time; how does it look Tails..." Sonic asked as Tails was grimacing.
"The horrors on this server Sonic are unspeakable from the reports of test results to the search history of one of the scientists... Wait... Found something..." Tails said and his eyes widened as he then saw somethign with Sonic looking over his shoulder. "A report saying that a flaw was found in that the nanomachines could be disrupted by strong vibrations... I doubt that NanoMac would be prepared against a sonic boom up close..." Tails explained as Sonic then grinned to himself.
"So we should show everyone why I have my name?" Sonc then asked.
The rechristed NanoMac was attacking anything in it's path as GUN soldiers were called in and were firing at him; "You think that your primitive weapons are anything close to a match against the next stage of human technology..." NanoMac demanded as a blue blur began taking civilians out of the area; then did the same for the GUN soldiers and now met face to face with Nanomac. "So this mysterious blue hedgehog... Ready to be shown your reckoning?" NanoMac asked as Sonic just grinned at him as everyone who was watching this were wide eyed including the reporters and those recording this without prioritising getting to safety.
"Sonic is the name; Sonic the Hedgehog and I have dealt with scarier bad guys than you..." Sonic then said as then began running around NanoMac in a circle with NanoMac looking confused but decided to roll with it confidently. Sonic then began running faster and faster with each step. Once he was at the stage; then lunged himself at NanoMac with the speed breaking the sound barrier and causing a small sonic boom causing Nanomac to yell in pain as the nanomachines malfunctioned and Sonic then grabbed the Chaos Emerald from the vest as the nanomachines went back inside the vest.
Sonic then heard the civilians cheering in awe making him grin but...
"Put the rock down and put your hands up where we can see him; I am Captain Westwood fo GUN Alpha Sigma-1 and you are coming with us..." a GUN soldier with brown hair and sunglasses warned him to protests from civilians as the GUN soldiers then had their weapons pointed at Sonic. Sonic raised an eyebrow but then suddenly to all of their shock there were several Sonics in the area confusing them all.
"It can clone itself..." one of the GUN soldiers demanded as they were all put off guard and not knowing what to do as all the Sonics looked ready to fight.
"It's moving so fast that it's in multiple places at once..." said another but Sonic then noticed Tails in a hiding spot with the Miles Electric out causing him to grin as he didn't need any more time to figure out what had happened. He then got Tails and left with Tails deactivating the holograms.
The news on the next morning as seen by the Wachowskis and the Mobians were reporting that opinion ratings on the now named Sonic were increasing with a growing number now seeing Sonic on their side but there were still a lot of skepticism and distrust of this mysterious hedgehog. It was said that Wolfe's body was taken to hospital and they hope to have his mind put back into his body to help him recover somehow while his company announced their bankruptcy.
"Still kind of scary what happened to Wolfe..." Tails pointed out in thought; "His mind put into machines seperated from his physical body... What that must be like..." Tails said and that creeped all of them out.
"A lesson in trying not to meddle with forces while ill prepared, still another Chaos Emerald safely kept in our..." Maddie said keeping her scared daughter close to her as they digested that.
Then a representative from GUN said on the news "Please don't be taken by the creature's apparent 'heroics' as we have it on good authority that it is dangerous and a potential threat to our way of life. GUN shall be working hard to capture and contain this menace and we have reached out to ha consultant with help on that front..."
"Consultant... What consultant could help them catch you..." Tom asked as they didn't think that it sounded good.
In a GUN lab; Robotnik was overlooking the container with the NanoMac device with the nanites moving about in it's small encased space. "Mr Wolfe; your consciousness is inside your tech, transformed and you should feel lucky... You have transcended above your weak limited flesh body and have become a glorious machine with the energy of the Chaos Emeralds throughout the insides... A superior form to your previous flesh... I must say that the nanomachines created by your company aren't bad at all and studying them can be a big help... Don't worry as the blasted hedgehog that defeated you shall get his..." Robotnik said grinning as from the nanomachines came out words as if Wolfe was trying to communicate.
Okay; NanoMac (couldn't think of a better name) is a composite character based on several: the idea of him through is story idea based on the reinvention of Anthony Ivo and Parasite from My Adventures with Superman, the name is kind of based of Nanomech from Ben 10 and Nanomac's appearence and powerset is taken from the redesign for Upgrade that was given in in the Ben 10 reboot (not the first time that Upgrade had his appearence ripped off as look up Meltdown from Transformers Animated who as a human had parents who decided to name their child Prometheus apparently) and the appearence of his human self is taken from Jonathan Rook from Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters (a lesser known Netflix cartoon that was unfairly cancelled all but officially without a proper conclusion).
