Chapter 40: Death of Madness
Rachel is on the streets to be shown Mayor Ren's bunker by Peter earlier to find the final key to the labs underneath. "Time to finish this mission," she thought as she was wielding her assault rifle to hope through a window to run through the building. "How is Elza doing?" she asked.
"She is stable, that medical spray does miracles," Jack said.
"The power of science baby, keep watch over E and make sure she is okay," Rachel said.
"Yeah, kick that monster's ass and get the key. Time to finish this mission," Jack said as Rachel ran through the building to see a few Oozes blocking her path in the apartment. She raises her rifle to aim a burst of bullets into the heads of the monsters to see them turn into piles of grey goo on the floor.
"So, you are coming to seek me out and kill me?" Mayor Ren asked on Rachel's earpiece.
"I need the key to finish my mission. You also cause a lot of suffering here, you need to answer for what you did," Rachel said as Ren laughed at this.
"Oh, that is so cute. This town is nothing more than an experiment for the Connections. I believe Peter told you of my location correct?" he asked.
"Yes he did," she said as she leaped out of the window to carry onto the fire escape to go onto the roof to see helicopters in the distance shooting at Bioweapons in the streets clearing them out.
"Well, he was a security personnel for the complexes on the island. Do you think you can trust him?" Ren asked.
"Yes, he has been very helpful so far?" Rachel asked.
"He is a mercenary type of fellow. Once he is finished with you, he will leave you behind. Just like he left us behind," Ren said.
"Regardless I am going to take you out and get the last key," Rachel said as she approached a manhole that leads to his bunker in the sewers. She climbs down the stairs to be in a narrow hallway.
"Then come and take the key. I will not go down without a fight," Ren said as a Wall Brister fell from the ceiling to sneak attack to grab her ready to crush her spine. She reacted quickly enough to stab her blade into its face to make it let her go. She uses her new KSG to blast buckshot to destroy its face and brain.
"One nasty surprise and more to come," Rachel said as several Aqua Lickers were bouncing off the walls trying to pin Rachel down.
"Now my beauties kill this pest," Rin said on the loudspeaker nearby.
"I am close to his location," she thought as she used an XDM pistol to place accurate shots into the Aqua Lickers. One of them got close and slashed across her chest but her suit protected her and placed a few shots of 10mm into the body of the monster killing it off.
An Aqua Licker lunges towards Rachel but she kicks the bioweapon in midair to knock it into a wall denting it. She fires her shots into its head until it remains lifeless.
"The boss lady is quite interested in you," Ren said as Rachel was tackled by an Aqua Licker to use their tongues to hold her in place. She uses her strength to break out of their hold and grab their tongues to swing them into the walls breaking their bodies on impact.
"I am so honored," Rachel said dryly to keep fighting the Aqua Lickers.
"Seriously, she is very impressed that you were capable of bonding with the Valkyrie serum. You being the template for the Valkyrie is a high honor. She wanted you to be the leader of the Valkyries since you have proven your worth against your younger sisters," Ren said on her radio.
"No thanks, I am not interested once again," Rachel said to finish off the remaining Aqua Lickers. She grabs its head and twists it hard breaking its neck.
"Well, the Overseer has big plans for this world. It's quite maddening but she is a woman of great ambitions. I am nothing more than a pawn in her greater chess board of this world," Ren said as Rachel brushed off her suit to keep going towards his bunker.
"I will stop her," Rachel said as Ren laughed at this.
"I doubt it, she is a lot like her brother. She will stop at nothing to gain her dream of remaking the world and pushing humanity to the next level," Ren said.
"Sounds like madness," Rachel said.
"Is it? Humanity has been hindered by its stupidity. I can't blame her for this since all of humankind are held back by their mistake based on hubris and lack of knowledge," Ren said.
"We all make mistakes but we can work through this together," Rachel said maintaining her bright outlook.
"Sounding like a cheesy heroine from some bad cartoon show. That is a fantasy, humans are greedy and arrogant. People would rather make a bad error than admit they made a mistake," Ren said as Rachel reached a door that looked different than the surrounding area.
"But still, we can't just give up on people and become dictators," Rachel said as she used her strength to force open the door to see the walls had become similar to the Valkyrie training center she was in earlier.
"Whatever. You know what's funny? Your friend Jessica, the Chinese spy. She is chasing a wild goose," Ren said as Rachel was confused by this.
"What do you mean by that?" she asked as she held onto her shotgun ready for more threats to show up.
"I mean that her efforts are for nothing. Her master has spent her to her death. They are not seeking the Valkyrie serum; they already have something similar. It's called Project Inceptor which is a cheap knockoff of the Undertakers and Valkyries. I bet she doesn't know yet, it's going to be so funny to see the look on her face," Ren laughs with Rachel having sympathy got Jessica.
"Poor Jessica, they are just using her until they throw her away," Rachel goes into a huge area which is like a warehouse.
"No more time to talk, time to show you a good time young lady," Ren said as Rachel heard heavy steps to see a large 9-foot humanoid walker named the P.A.C or Power Armor Unit armed with a minigun on each arm and a thick armored shell around the cockpit.
"Die," Ren is piloting the mech walker as he speaks through the speakers to fire a high stream of bullets to tear through the environment. Rachel is getting behind a thick metal box to shield from the mech. They fire upon the mech but its shell is too strong for bullets.
"Damn it," she thought as Ren laughs at this.
"Let's see how capable you are Miss Foley," Ren said as he unleashed waves of micro missiles to pepper the area to leave behind explosions and craters The explosions pushed Rachel into a crate to tank the impact.
"I need to buy some time," she thought as she loaded up a shock grenade to lob it at the mech to stun it. Then she fires a riot grenade to hit the two legs of the mech sticking them to the floor. She moves away to go into the shadows trying to find a launcher to use against it.
"You can't hide from me Rachel," Ren reboots the mech suit as he activates the heaters around the feet to burn away the riot goo from his mech's legs. He let loose a hail of armor-piercing bullets to cut through rows of crates.
"Gee, he keeps coming," she said as she found an RPG MK 777 which is a modern RPG 7 made by the US to give to allies as a low-cost yet effective weapon like the UWAR and Ukraine. "Perfect," she said as she grabbed the launcher and put the KSG into her backpack to grab some rockets. She leaps onto the crate to see the destruction the PAC is doing.
"Where are you?" he taunted her as he heard the sensor detecting a rocket heading for him "Nice try," he said as he managed to dodge the incoming projectile.
"Shit, that thing is faster than it looks," Rachel said as she takes cover to avoid a barrage of bullets and micro missiles destroying the area she was just in. "I going to need to set it up to get him hit with a rocket," she thought as she loaded up a riot grenade into her rifle's M320 launcher.
She rolls out of cover to lob the riot grenade to stun the mech suit for a moment to switch to her RPG MK 777. She fires the rocket to score a hit on the cockpit pod to crack the hardened shell.
"Warning hull integrity has been compromised. Repairs are needed," a computer voice said.
"Damn it, very clever Rachel," he thought as he stomps onto the ground to unleash waves of flames trying to catch Rachel on fire. She managed to dodge this and get on top of a crate to reload her RPG launcher to be ready to use the same combo to finish the mech suit off.
"Time to have lightning strike twice," Rachel said as she kicked a crate to hit the damaged mech to knock it off balance. She got some time to put another Riot Grenade into her M320. The P.A.C. regains its balance to keep firing its weapons to keep Rachel at a distance.
"I am tired of this," she said as she lobbed the Riot Grenade to stick it with goo to stun it. She gets up her RPG launcher to fire the rocket to strike the mech to finally destroy it. The explosion killed Ren inside the humanoid mech with Rachel tossing the RPG on the floor.
"I got the last key," she said as she went off into the safe room to see Ren's room to see the key on the desk. "Guys, I found it. I will be heading back," Rachel said.
"Good Rachel, Elza is healing up and doing fine," Jack said as he heard the window opening up.
"Baby, I am home," Rachel said.
"Oh, that was fast," Jack said as Rachel appeared without her helmet. "So where is the key?" he asked.
"Oh, sorry baby, you got the wrong sister," Rachel said darkly as Jack's heart sank to know this was a Valkyrie in their room. He draws a pistol but the Valkyrie swiftly disarms him and grabs him by the throat. She tosses him through the wall to knock him out with ease.
"So vulnerable. Madam, I got her partners," the Valkyrie said on the radio.
"Good, we will need it for bait to draw Rachel to us and capture her," Linda said as the Valkyrie went down to gather Elza and Jack to take them to the underground labs. They set the apartment on fire to burn everything away.
Rachel is jumping on rooftops to see smoke in the distance. "Oh crap, it's coming from our hideout," Rachel said as she is trying to contact Jack but its only static. "Damn it Jack, answer me," Rachel said as she hear her voice laughing evilly.
"Sorry big sister. I got your cutie of a man with us in the labs below along with your friend here," the Valkyrie said.
"You better not hurt them," she said.
"Well, you better come get them. You have the keys now to enter the labs," the Valkyrie taunted her to cut off the radio.
"Yo Rachel, you got the keys?" Jessica asked on the radio.
"Yeah. I need your help. Jack and Elza are captured," Rachel said.
"Oh gee, this went up to 100 fast. I will meet you at the lab entrance at the university. Time to complete this mission," Jessica said as Rachel nodded her head to look over the burning apartment building.
"Yeah, time to fight back," Rachel said as she went off to the lab entrance for the final part of the mission to begin.
