Chapter 5
After having left Ranma at the Tendo dojo, he became accosted by the residents of said household. The elders of the house, Soun and Genma, were boasting so loudly how he lost that Izuku found himself rubbing his temple. He chuckled to himself, wondering if Ranma had to deal with that a lot.
The middle child, the one Izuku learned to be Nabiki, had been rather excited for the money that she made for the event, telling Izuku that if he ever wanted to do it again, to give her a call. Ya, Izuku decided that wasn't going to happen. If only because he wasn't out for the money or letting others make it rich off of him. He wanted to be a hero who helps people, not become rich and famous.
The eldest Tendo daughter was the nicest, leading Izuku to Ranma's room so Izuku could make sure he was in bed properly. After everything that had happened that day, Izuku let a sad smile spread on his face. These people were a big family, no doubt about it. It made him miss his own mother. The last time they had seen each other, Izuku had told her what he had planned. She must be so worried. Izuku felt a small tear trail down his face before he whipped it away. He can't think about that right now. He has to get back out and patrol.
That was something that Izuku liked about this world. There were plenty of ways for him to help. Criminals to stop, civilians needing assistance. He felt like a miniature All Might, helping as many people as he could. That thought made Izuku pause. Without much thought, Izuku made his exit from the Tendo house, walking along the streets, his mask once more adorned on his face. With a couple bends of his knees, he launched himself into the sky, using Float to keep him stable as he took off.
This was his training. Trying to switch between quirks on the fly as moved on with his day. He would take off with FaJin before using Float to keep himself in the air. Using Blackwhip to travel tight corners or elevate higher. Using these three quirks in rapid succession. He had to train his body, for when he finally returns to his home world, he'll be ready for the confrontation that awaits him there.
Every night it seems, he keeps hearing words. Words spoken so long ago. "Now. it's your turn." a vestige of All Might, pointing straight at him, his voice broken and tired. It was hard to sleep, hearing the words of your mentor, not knowing if you can accomplish the task laid out before you. Growling to himself, Izuku flung a Blackwhip towards one of the buildings, hoping to keep his mind busy from thinking about that. Flying through the air was rather nice, it was still mid afternoon, so he still had time to look about Nerima before he left to patrol the remaining districts close by. He needed to stay near Nerima. Ranma was the key, he just knew it. With that thought, he wiped away, leaving a green streak in his way as he crossed the bay.
The Next Morning
Ranma awoke with a splitting headache. Slowly, his eyes opened to find himself in his room at the Tendo Dojo. he looked down at himself, seeing several small bandages littered across his body. His breathing was shallow and his teeth felt like they had been kicked in. That's what sparked his memory of the fight from the day before. His teeth felt like they were kicked in because they were. Quickly, he stood from his bed and ran down the stairs, there he found the rest of the family happily eating breakfast.
"Ranma! You're awake!" Kasumi said, placing her hands together in front of her. "I made sure to have you bandaged up before Midoriya put you to bed!"
"Midoriya!?" Ranma asked, exasperated. "Does that mean i lost?" he could feel his hands shaking. Had he really lost to Izuku Midoriya again? He had thought the training had helped him. He was able to keep up with midoriya. Well enough at least. There were a couple of hits that he managed to land that were faster than Ranma had expected.
"No, you won." Akane said, taking a drink from her cup, "but you only won on a technicality." She set the cup down upon the table before standing up. "I'm heading out. I promised a couple of friends I would hang out with them today." She was about to make her way out when she spotted Ranma. He had a frown on his face.
"What technicality?" Ranma asked. His voice was rather calm, though his eyes seemed rather far gone.
"You ended up wrapped up in the ring's ropes, keeping you from hitting the ground while Midoriya ended up on the concrete. That was after you two destroyed the ring." Nabiki said, taking a drink from her own cup. She stood up before making her way back to her room. Passing Ranma she smirked at him before saying. "Cheer up Ranma, you won. So you can let it go. Even though he walked out and you had to be carried out." her words stung. Ranma could feel his eye twitch again. Normally, Ranma would be happy he won, regardless of how or why, but this time something felt off. It felt wrong. Mostly because he knew Izuku was holding back. Growling, Ranma made his way back into the dojo, simply sitting in the middle of the room to think.
30 percent? What the hell did he mean with that? Did it mean he had a limit of strength he could keep himself at? That didn't make a lot of sense though. Then there was the fact that he switched up his fighting style. That had been the deciding factor. Izuku's kicks were much stronger than his punches, his agility enhanced by his legs. It made Ranma rather upset. He had managed to land a couple of hits on Izuku when he changed his style, but he was so fast in moving away from him that Ranma hadn't been able to capitalize. Once again, the thing Ranma lacked in beating him was Izuku's Strength and speed.
Ranma ran his hands through his hair. Izuku's strength was insane and that was a compliment coming from him. His training had paid off in a small way. Though, a couple of days training does not make a faster person. He needed to take longer. Get better. He looked down at his knees. He felt that burning passion again. He had already spent a week on this training and it had severely damaged his social group already. He couldn't hunker down in this room for a month and expect things to remain the same.
He slammed his fist into the mats on the ground before standing. He wasn't concerned with his social life, after all his life was crazy enough that he saw people every day. But this one week made him realize something. He was acting like Ryoga. He was becoming obsessed with beating Izuku. He finally could understand why Ryoga went through so much grief, just for a chance to beat him. Didn't make it any less annoying, but it was the thought that counts.
Sighing, Ranma made his way to his room so he could change. He changed from his short sleeve chinese shirt into a long sleeved one. It was starting to get chilly outside and he was going to need it. He was going to make his way to one of his friends, hopping she could give him some idea of what to do. Leaving the house, he started to make his way over to Ukyo's Okonomiyaki shop.
It didn't take long, having walked there a number of times. The front of the shop had the sign up, saying okonomiyaki Ucchans on the front with the open sign flipped. Smiling, Ranma walked into the two story building, lifting the exterior noren as he walked in.
"Hello! Welcome! Oh! It's you Ranma-honey!" Ukyo called from behind the grill counter she was working at. "The usual?" Ranma nodded, sitting down near the front. She expertly began using her spatulas to dice ingredients, mixing them together with the batter. Then, she drained the contents of her mixing bowl onto the grill, making the batter spit and sputter. Ranma grinned as the air was filled with the smell of his okonomiyaki cooking.
"Man, that smells good, Ucchan!" Ranma said, taking another deep breath. He could feel his mouth watering. Kasumi had left him a plate for breakfast and he had completely spaced it. Though that's not the first time nor will it be the last time he's done it. Once Ukyo was done, she took a deep breath, whipping away the sweat that had started to form on her brow. She was currently wearing her blue sleeveless blouse. Her bandolier of spatulas were draped across her shoulders as she continued to work.
"So, what brings you by on one of your days off?" Ukyo asked, scraping off her spatula in the little sink next to the grill. Even though she was working, you could tell her full attention was on Ranma, waiting to hear what he had to say.
"I saw you at the fight yesterday." Ranma said, taking a bit out of his okonomiyaki. "Did you make a lot of money?" He continued to chew his food before swallowing it and taking another bite.
"Yes, I was there." Ukyo's face fell for a moment. "I was there to cheer you on. Nabiki asked me to provide food for it." She finished scraping the spatula and placed it in a sanitizer pan. She turned to Ranma, her eyes lingering on his face before drifting along his body. At first Ranma grew a little embarrassed until he realized she was looking over all the wounds and bruises that littered his body. "That guy really did a number on you, didn't he?"
Ranma gagged for a moment, swallowed and gasped. "I guess? I bet he looks worse than I do." he laughed a little before he stopped. He could feel a sharp pain in his lunges. Not like a stabbing pain, just an ache. Sighing, he took another bit. Why did he come here? It was to talk to Ukyo, right? Get her opinion on this. Her eyes wouldn't meet Ranmas for a moment, before he spoke. "What?" Ranma asked.
Ukyo frowned, "I figured you would be more upset." she said, before looking Ranma dead in the eyes. "Yet he helped you out when you were unconscious." She had a point. "I'm worried about you, Ran-chan. Most times you walk away from your fights, beaten and bruised, yes, but the fact remains. I don't want you to get hurt worse if you continue to pursue him."
"Hurt worse?" he whispered to himself. "Thanks Ucchan. That really helps." he finished his meal before standing up. He reached into his pocket before Ukyo waved him off like she alway did.
"It's on the house, Ran-chan," she said. "Take care, okay?" With that, she returned to her work, a frown on her face. Without saying much else, Ranma left. He needed to think about what she said. Was it worth pursuing Izuku? The answer to that was simple and didn't need to be explained.
Making his way down the road, he could see a small stack of smoke billowing off in the distance. Where that cloud of smoke could be seen, Izuku was battling one of ranma's many rivals, someone he's met before.
"So what!?" Ryoga shouted, his fist an inch from Izuku's face. "I'm stuck having to track him down and you get to fight him whenever you want!? That's bullshit!" Ryoga shouted, forcing his finger into the ground. In a split second, it exploded, hitting Midoriya with debris. Izuku sighed before standing up. He knew battling Ranma was going to get some kind of backlash. He had just expected it from Ranma himself. Not this man. The damage he was doing to the streets, he was fighting so recklessly.
"You have to stop this." Izuku said, his voice filled with ice. "People could get hurt from your recklessness. If you don't stop, ill have to do it for you." give him a chance to stop quietly, let him walk away, from what he had seen, this guy may as well have had a quirk, with how strong he was. Not explaining the sudden explosions and destruction.
Ryoga glared at Izuku, his fist shaking. He wasn't going to let him disrespect him. He had already done it once, stopping his attack on Ranma. "Stop me?" ryoga asked. "How arrogant of you, to think you could defeat me!" he shouted before once more rushing Izuku.
Danger sense sparked within his head for just a moment before he sighed and fired One For All to 30 percent. The electricity formed from his quirk bounced off his body before it finally stabilized. Rushing forward, Izuku planted his fist into Ryoga's chest while grabbing ahold of the hand that had the index finger sticking out. Forcing Ryoga back, Izuku slammed the lost boy into the closest wall. Quickly, Izuku wrapped him up with black whip before preparing to throw him into the air. However, Izuku didn't get the chance, as a wave of ice cold water came upon his and Ryogas head.
Shaking the water out of his eyes, Izuku begane to look about, trying to spot Ryoga. He had somehow slipped out of black whip, something Izuku had never had happen up until now. Looking around, he found Ryoga's clothes, sitting in a pile right next to him, with a small black pig peeking out. Izuku's eyes widened, before he took a step back. Was Ryoga the pig? Bending down, Izuku could see Ryoga's head band tied around the pigs neck. The pigs eyes were on Izuku, wide in terror.
"You… you turned into a pig?" Izuku asked, looking down at Ryoga. The pig shook its head, telling him no. Izuku's eyes narrowed before he reached up and pulled the mask off his face. "Don't lie to me. Are you the guy I was just fighting?"
Ryoga was going to deny it, but the look in Izuku's eyes told him that wasn't an option. Finally, he nodded before giving a small snort. He started to climb out of his clothes before putting his nose onto the clothes, trying to make a pile. "Your… not going to just leave them here, are you?" Izuku asked, bewildered. The pig looked up at him before nodding. It gave a soft sigh before it started to slowly make its way down the road. Its not even a pig! It's a little piglet! "I'm going to regret this." izuku said to himself before he grabbed the pile of clothes and began making his way to catch up to the piglet. It wasn't hard, he managed to find it just wadaling down the street, a couple of people whispering behind there hands as it past. Quickly, Izuku scooped it up and placed it on his shoulder.
"Look, there has to be a way to change you back, right?" Izuku said, looking into the piglet's face. It nodded before dropping its head. "Shame you can't just tell me." he said before securing it to himself. "Well, we'll just wander around until you see something that can help." the piglet nodded before resetting itself comfortably on his shoulder. As the two walked, he could see things from a different perspective. All day, he had been watching from the sky, keeping an eye out from above, but there was nothing like wandering the street floor, seeing everyone moving about their day with little to no worries. This was what he was fighting for. What he was fighting to return to.
As he walked, the piglet was looking about, keeping an eye out for anything that could help with this predicament. It was just so strange. That guy turned into a pig when they were both hit with water. Was it the water that changed it? Well, no it couldn't have been. It would have affected Izuku too, wouldn't it have? And where did that water even come from? 'This is all so confusing!' izuku thought to himself. He was brought out of his stupor when he felt a pain on one of his ears. He turned his head to see the piglet, it was growling (can pigs even growl?) and pointing its snout towards the road ahead of them. Izuku followed its pointing snout and saw Ranma, walking along the sidewalk. "Can he help you?" Izuku asked. The pig nodded slowly before jumping off his shoulder. "Hey! Wait!" Izuku shouted, following the piglet.
Ranma had just been walking down the road when he heard a very familiar squealing. Looking down, he saw the black piglet form of Ryoga. He felt himself smirk before he saw Izuku running after him, holding onto Ryoga's clothes. His eyes narrowed for a moment before he knelt down. "Ah, poor little P-chan. Now you're needing even more help?" the pig bit down on ranma's leg, gnawing on it with such ferocity. Izuku managed to make it to them before picking up the pig.
"Hey, do you know how to fix this?" izuku asked, pointing to the pig.
Ranma wanted to laugh, before he remembered his promise to Ryoga. "I can, but you'll have to let me handle it." he said, offering his hand out.
"Ok." Izuku said, giving the pig to Ranma, "but I would like an explanation." Ranma thought about it for a moment before nodding. He waved for Izuku to follow him before turning away. The two started to make their way back to the Tendo Dojo. it would seem izuku was finding his way here a lot. He had a few routes to get to and from this place at this point, though that was because he needed to know where Ranma lived so when the time came, Ranma could help send him home.
'This might just be the opportunity to tell them my situation.' Izuku thought to himself. 'Get him on board to help.' izuku continued to walk until they entered the building. Ranma looked over at Izuku before saying, "ok, why not wait in the living room. I'll explain everything there." Izuku nodded before making his way to the living room.
Upon entering, everyone turned to look at him. He gave a soft smile before bowing. "Sorry, I ran into Ranma and he invited me over." he said, taking a seat upon the ground. The occupants were all staring at him, unblinking. "Um… that's not a problem, is it?" Izuku asked, his face starting to turn flushed.
"No, not at all." Kasumi said, standing up. "Would you like a cup of tea?" Izuku nodded slowly before Kasumi left the room. Looking at the others, none of them spoke.
Genma and Soun had been playing a game of shogi as he had arrived and now their focus was returning to it. And seeing as Kasumi was the only other occupant, that left the three of them in a very awkward position. Deciding that doing anything disrespectful was a bad idea, Izuku just sat there, his hands in his lap.
After a while, Ranma and Ryoga walked into the room. Ryoga looked rather angry, with a newly forming bruise on his cheek. "What happened to you?" Izuku asked, pointing to Ryoga. Upon asking his questions, he noticed that Soun and Genma both picked up their shogi board and were out of sight. "Ooook, that was weird." izuku noted before turning back to the two.
Ranma sighed before turning to Ryoga, "get lost, will ya? I told ya, Akane's not here." Ryoga shook his head, not bothering to say anything. Ranma sighed in exasperation before taking Ryoga by the scruff of his shirt and throwing him out the side door leading to the lawn outside. Ryoga hit the ground hard, only for Ranma to pick him up and toss him over the wall of the Tendo household. He disappeared, flying into the mid afternoon sky.
Izuku stood up, his hands clenched, ready for a fight. "That wasn't very nice." Izuku commented, his eyes narrowing.
Ranma shook his head before walking back into the house. "Look, Ryoga and I aren't really friends. He's friends with Akane, I think, but that's different. Look, you wanted to know what happened, right?" Ranma asked, his eyes narrowed, but tired. He didn't really feel up to fighting izuku again. Not a day after their first actual fight. Izuku nodded his head. "Then we're going to be here for a long time." That's when Ranma started to explain. He told Izuku all about the curses and about the cursed springs of Jusenkyo. Then, in one last thought, he told Izuku about his curse as well.
"No way." Izuku said. "You're cursed?"
Ranma nodded his head before raising one of his hands into the air in a sort of, what can you do, sort of matter. "Ya, me and pop. we were there and ended up falling in a spring."
Izuku nodded, pulling a small notebook from one of the little pouches on his person. Began writing in it, kind of like he had when doing quirk analysis. "That must be really useful."
"Trust me, it's not. You're a magnet for cold water and there are some times where hot water is even harder to come by." Ranma explained. He sighed before leaning forward. "either way, I think its time for you to go."
Izuku looked confused. "are you sure?"
Ranma nodded his head before he stood up from the table. Izuku blinked before standing up as well. Ranma frowned for a moment. he looked like he wanted to say something, but he stopped himself before turning to leave and make his way to the dojo. Before he could leave the room though, Izuku had to ask. "Ranma!" He called after him. "What's your curse?"
Ranma stopped for a moment before sighing. "i'm not going to tell you that, man." and with that, he left. Izuku sighed. Guess today wasn't the day. Best to save that nugget for another day. It's already been too long. Sighing before making his way back to the streets of Nerima. It was time for him to get back out on patrol. He had spent too much time on this anyways, best to get back to work.
AN: yo yo yigidiy yo! How's it going guys! It's another Saturday, another chapter of Boy from another world. I am humbled by all the people who are following and favoring the story. As always, we jump into the questions and answers.
Djinn: Great new chapter, look forward to seeing the aftermath of this fight
Kain: I'm hoping to see if I meet your expectations. I love writing this story and i'm glad your enjoying it.
SpiteSensei: Hm, the fight was certainly interesting, i was already interested to see how ranma was going to react to Izuku changing his fighting style on the fly like that, considering not a single person has seen him properly fight yet, and i got a bit of a laugh last chapter with Ranma and the old woman believing Izuku's biggest weakness being needing to charge up, only for izuku to just toss aside Fa Jin for the fight, crippling that strategy by pure accident.
I especially am interested in seeing how in universe people are going to feel about the end of that fight, because officially, Ranma won. He stayed in the ring while Izuku was tossed out, in reality it doesn't feel like a win for Ranma, considering he was both knocked out and Izuku wasn't and even laughed, got up, and hauled Ranma off like nothing happened, and from a outsiders perspective that does not scream 'loser of the fight'.
I'm not entirely certain how i feel about fa jin being explained as the reason Izuku is able to use 45% (because it isn't) but i'll just wright it off as stopping Izuku from being to OP and move on.
One thing i noted that was interesting during the fight is, while izuku did mentally decide not to use fa jon, and there being numerous reasons not to have used gear shift during the fight, he only used blackwhip once to recover and didn't use it again or any other quirk, and as far as the fight went, i don't believe izuku was using danger sense either.
Then again, from how the vestiges talked as well as izuku thought and acted during the fight, he definitely was using this fight to test Ranma rather than seriously fighting him, and considering the outcome, i feel this chapter solidly hit the notes it was going for, Izuku not genuinely fighting as if for his life, but enough to realize Ranma will definitely be important in the future.
Kain: damn. This review made me smile, if anything, it gave me something to think about. First off, im glad you picked up on that. In the anime of ranma 1 / 2, there are times where ranma will make a winning strategy only to find out that it was useless (most times it comes from Genma, but still). So i'm glad someone picked up on that.
In universe, there will be ramifications of that fight. Primarily, I would say that it comes down to the idea that no one wants to admit that Ranma may have won the battle, but he lost the war. It is an angle I want to explore.
Now. I don't remember Izuku ever reaching 45% for longer than using Fa Jin, but i will say that i didn't intend to limit izuku, rather give him a number to work towards, ya know? So for now, in this story he can't reach 45% for longer than a couple of seconds, but he's making his way towards that level. In the next chapter, i think i explain that Izuku levels himself to 35% i think.
So, I will say danger sense specifically only triggers if his opponent is intending to do harm or injury through a malicious act. I could be wrong on that though. Though you are right, I want it to seem like Izuku wasn't really trying (he wasn't of course).
Im glade it hit the right notes. I was really worried that I wasn't setting the written tone for the fight. When I write fight sense, i like to go in with a question, answer, mentality. The questing last chapter was, 'how strong is Ranma' and 'can he help Izuku' because Izuku needs to find someone who has more strength than the normal person, after all, Ranma is fighting at an above average level. Thank you so much for the review!
Rogers.5: would be interesting to see if Izuku learns more fighting styles.
Kain: That's kind of the plan. Right now, in a moment where Izuku isn't going to really slow down in what he's doing. I'm trying to build up to when he finally stops and joins the crew as a proper member of the cast, until then, its going to be snippets of what he's doing in between, once he does, he more than likely will learn some different fighting styles.
Iron454: this is interesting. Although I think Logan in the homo superior had the description right, 'if you can't take a 4 ton hit, he would call you a pussy.'
Kain: ouch. Not going to lie, I don't know what homo superior is. Might have to look that up, but if someone throws around a 4 ton punch, someone's got a large body count.
Ok! That's the new reviews! Thanks to everyone who left one. I'm so glad people are finding this interesting enough to continue reading it. This will be awesome to see the completed story once we get there.
