I'm really sorry I can't believe it's been a year since I've last updated this story. I'll try to aim for at least 2 chapters a week. I don't own inuyasha. Inuyasha belongs to Rumiko Takahashi. Also happy new year.

Scroll three: A new foe!

"I'll make it simple. If you want to live give me the jewel!" Inuyasha said glaring at Kagome. "No, Kagome! You must not let him have it!" Kaede exclaimed. Kagome looked to be in deep thought for a moment before Inuyasha spoke. "Do you think I'm too gentle, little girl?" He paused before shouting." NOT WHEN YOU STINK OF THE WOMAN WHO KILLED ME!" With that, he leaped into the air one of his hands outstretched toward Kagome. I tackled Kagome out of Inuyasha's way. "ASAMI WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!" Kagome yelled not even five seconds later the ground started to shake. I turned around to where Kagome had originally stood to see that there were now huge claw-shaped marks where she was moments before. "That dear sister is why." I said pointing to where she was just moments ago.

"Next time… I'll cut you in half.." Inuyasha said in a crouching position. "HEY! YOU'RE REALLY TRYING TO HURT ME, AREN'T YOU?!" Kagome shouted. "WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM DOG BOY? HOW IS TRYING TO KILL SOMEONE OVER A STUPID JEWEL OKAY!" I seethed. "Lady Kaede, I think we'd have preferred the giant centipede after all!" One of the village men spoke. Kaede sighed and then spoke. "Oh me… I am ringed by fools." "NOW DIE!" Inuyasha yelled jumping towards me and Kagome. I back took a step backward and tripped as I was falling I grabbed Kagome's sleeve bringing her to the ground with me and scraping my arm in the process. "AHH." Kagome screamed. "YOU'RE MINE!" Inuyasha yelled from above us. "Eh?." Inuyasha said getting distracted for a brief moment. "Kagome! Utter a subduing spell!" Kaede shouted. "A subduing spell?" Kagome questioned. "It matters not which! Any word to subdue him." Kaede spoke. "But… But I don't know any…!" Kagome cried out. "Kagome I don't care what the word is just shout something anything before we're dead." I spoke clutching my arm. "You subdue me don't make me laugh." Inuyasha said in a mocking tone he was mere inches from us. "SIT!" Kagome shouted. That singular word made Inuyasha come crashing into the ground. A look of shock crossed my face as it did with Kagome and some of the villagers. "By sit… He was subdued?" One of the villagers asked. "Mm-hmm." Kaede made a noise of agreement. Inuyasha was stunned for a second before sitting up and yelling. "WHAT… WHAT IN ALL THE HELL.." "Spare your strength, Inuyasha with all your power you still can't lift those prayer beads from your neck." Kaede informed Inuyasha. "You… withered crone." Inuyasha sneered. "Do your stuff." Kaede told Kagome. "Sit boy." Kagome commanded and just like before Inuyasha hit the ground hard. "This is fun." Kagome said with a look of enjoyment plastered to her face. "Oh, that looks painful. I'm so glad I'm not him right now." I spoke. "What'd you say?" Inuyasha's snarled. "SIT." Kagome shouted again commanding him back to the floor. "You may all return to the village; the show is over." Kaede spoke ushering the villagers back to the village. "Let's get you three back to the village as well."

"Three? Old hag what makes you think I want to go back to your dumb village?" Inuyasha asked while moving into a sitting position. "Inuyasha's don't make me have Kagome say sit again." At those words, Inuyasha turned pale. "Okay, fine I'll go with you people." Inuyasha gave in. "Yeah, that's what I thought." Kaede spoke. I leaned over and whispered to Kagome. "That must've really hurt if he's scared you'll say it again." Kagome nodded her head with a smile. "HEY, I HEARD THAT!" Inuyasha yelled. "Oh, Kagome he really has dog-like qualities." I spoke. "Yeah, he really does huh." Kagome replied flatly. "What did you say?" Inuyasha said coming for us. "SIT BOY." Kagome yelled causing Inuyasha to plummet back to the ground.

The entire trip back to the village was made in silence.

"Asami come here and let me see your wound." Kaede spoke. "Oh, I'm okay it's just a scratch." I said. "We wouldn't want… 'Just a scratch' to get infected now would we?" Kaede asked before taking my arm and examining it. "I guess not." I replied. "Some healing herbs should take care of it." Kaede informed.

"But what a place we're left in, eh? Now that the Shikon jewel has appeared again in this world… The evil beings who desire its power will soon be flocking here." "Um, you mean like monsters..?" Kagome questioned. "Not only monsters. But also, men… who are sometimes worse… In this era of war and chaos, the power of the jewel of four souls… can make any ambition a reality." Kaede explained to us. "So, why do you want the jewel?" Kagome asked Inuyasha. "Yeah, you're already strong why do you need more power?" I chimed in. "He's only half demon." As soon as those words left Kaede's mouth Inuyasha slammed his fist so hard into the floor of the hut that he created a huge hole. "Old hag… you've been acting familiar since we met! Do you think you know me?" Inuyasha seethed. "Then you really don't know? You don't know Kaede the little sister of the woman who enchanted you?" Kaede asked him. "Kaede?" Inuyasha questioned looking puzzled for a moment. "It's been fifty years… and some of us grow older." Kaede said. "You… "Inuyasha's trailed off looking deep in thought before starting again. "Were that little whelp? Then Kikyo must be even more withered than you! What a bore you mortals are." Inuyasha said with a mocking attitude. "My elder sister… is dead. The same day she put the spell on you." Kaede said flatly. "Ho… is that so…? The little witch kicked it, eh?" Inuyasha asked with a smug look plastered to his face. Inuyasha laid down on the floor before speaking again. "Nice to hear some good news." "Inuyasha I wouldn't start celebrating just yet." Kaede spoke. "Oh, and why is that?" Inuyasha questioned. "There is the matter of reincarnation don't you agree Kagome?" Kaede said. This seemed to spark Inuyasha's interest. Kagome looked deep in thought for a few minutes. "I think I need some fresh air." Kagome said before excusing herself. "Why aren't you going with her?" Inuyasha questioned me. "She needs alone time. Trust me when she's like that she needs time to herself to think." I said. "Hmph." Inuyasha grumbled then got up to leave. "Where are ye going Inuyasha?" Kaede asked him. "Outside." He said flatly then walked out the door.

"So, lady Kaede if you don't mind me asking what was your sister lady Kikyo like?" I asked curiously. "My elder sister was kind; she'd always help anyone in need no matter how awful a human being they were the only exception to that was if they tried to take the sacred jewel. Then she'd not be so inclined to be merciful. She was also just a teenage girl with a huge responsibility of keeping the jewel of four souls safe." Lady Kaede explained.

"Did she ever get to be a normal teenage girl?" I questioned. Kaede looked to be in deep thought for a moment. "There's no way she never did normal girl things. She never worried about her appearance or fawned over boys?" I questioned in shocked. "Ne child I never said she didn't do those things. She did them briefly right before she passed." Kaede explained. "What do you mean by briefly?" I asked. "My dear older sister fell in love. When she did she tried to hide it but I could tell when she did because she started worrying about her appearance." "She didn't worry about that before?" I asked. "Ne she did not." Kaede responded. "I kinda wonder who could've made Kikyo fall in love like that." I stated. "Do you really want to know child?" Kaede asked me. I shook my head yes staring attentively at her Kaede chuckled. "It twas Inuyasha." Kaede stated I stared at her blankly mouth hung agape. "Close your mouth child least ye catch flies." Kaede said. "Eh y-you mean grouchy d-d-dog b-boy made Kikyo fall in l-love with him." I managed to sputtered out I took in a deep breath before composing myself. "Wow Kikyo had bad taste in men." Kaede sighed at this statement. "Inuyasha he wasn't always like this." Kaede said. I gave her a pointed look. "Okay well maybe at first he was but he wasn't so bad for a short time." Kaede stated. 'But he killed Kikyo that's kinda bad.' I thought to myself not wanting to bring it up to the old woman and risk upsetting her.

Kaede and I were deep in our conversation when Kagome walked back into the hut about two hours after she left. "It's getting late I should start making dinner now." Kaede said then stood up to start preparing dinner. "Is there anything we can help you with?" Kagome asked. "Ne child help isn't needed for tonight." Kaede spoke. Kagome sat next to me on the floor she had look of deep concentration on her face. 'Best not bother her for now.' I thought to myself. The silence was deafening. I started thinking over todays events especially my earlier conversation with Kaede about Kikyo and Inuyasha. 'If Inuyasha loved Kikyo why did she fatally attack her? What happened between them? Will he try to kill us too? Wait he already tried to kill us. How long before he succeeds? Will me and Kagome ever be able to get home? What if this really is our afterlife? But why would our afterlife look like feudal-era Japan?'

"Asami would you be a dear and give this to Inuyasha?" Kaede asked stirring me from my thoughts I looked over to see her holding out a bowl of soup. "Yeah sure, any idea where he could be?" I asked. "I saw him earlier in a tree in the village." Kagome said. "It's getting late though, Asami do you want me to come with you?" Kagome asked worry lining her voice. "No, I'll be quick you should get some rest I won't be long." I assured her.

I walked outside searching for Inuyasha until I found him perched outside on the fence post mumbling something about a crow demon. I eyed him wearily before shouting out for him. "Inuyasha lady Kaede told me to bring you this she thought you'd be hungry." "What gives with you girls?" Inuyasha questioned. "Huh?" I looked at him confused. 'What is he talking about?' I thought to myself. "I'm talking about you and your sister coming to find me and giving me food." He said. 'How did he know what I was thinking is he a mind reader?' I questioned myself. "No, I can't read your mind your thinking out loud." Inuyasha stated causing a blush to cross my cheeks. "Lady Kaede asked me to bring this to you if you'd showed up to dinner I would't've had to come find you." I told him slightly annoyed. "Yeah, whatever." He said while rolling his eyes. "Look do you want it or not?" I asked holding out the bowl to him in the blink of an eye he snatched the bowl from my hands. "What's with you anyway why are you so hostile to me and my sister?" I asked sitting down on the floor. "Well, your sister looks like the woman who sealed me to that tree. I don't have a problem with you." Inuyasha then jumped off the fence post he was previously perched on and sat next to me. "You're a lot prettier than your sister," Inuyasha said causing the blush on my cheeks to deepen.

I turned to look at Inuyasha. "We're identical twins well, with one exception I have blue eyes, but I don't see how I'm prettier." I scoffed. "Identical twins?" Inuyasha questioned. "It means we look exactly alike." I told him. Inuyasha stared at my face for a moment he seemed to be in deep thought.

"Yeah, you two do look an awful lot alike but I can see the differences in your faces plus I don't sense Kikyo's energy from you." Inuyasha said as he finished scarfing down the rest of his food. "Kikyo's energy?" I asked. "Her spiritual energy." He spoke soup dripping from his mouth. 'That's so gross.' I thought to myself. "You have a strong spiritual energy but it's not like hers." "I have spiritual energy?" I asked curiosity getting the better of me. He rolled his eyes at the question. "Okay well, what does me not having her energy have to do with me and Kagome not looking identical to you?" I questioned looking for any kind of answer. "When I look at your sister all I see is Kikyo and when I look at you I don't see Kikyo okay." He mumbled. "Well what do you think makes me and Kagome look so different?" I asked. He looks at me attentively before he started. "Well first of all your hair." "My hair?" I asked picking up a strand and inspecting it closely. "Your uh bangs are a lot flatter than Kagome's kind of like Kikyo's." He said I looked at him puzzled. "I thought I didn't look like Kikyo? Why does my hair remind you of her than?" I questioned. "You didn't ask about yours and Kikyo's differences you asked about yours and the other girls differences." He huffed out turning his body away from me. "Her name is Kagome." I stated. "Huh?" He questioned. "The other girl, my sister her name is Kagome." I told him. "I knew that." Inuyasha huffed out. "What else?" I asked him. He his head back at me. "Your eye shape is different they're uh not as big as hers." He said. "What I don't have small eyes." I stated slightly offended that he thinks my eyes are small. "I didn't say they were small idiot they're just not as big as hers." He grumbled out turning back away from me.

I sighed and looked to the stars. 'I wonder what moms doing right now? She's probably worried sick out looking for us. Mom I miss you I hope we'll come home soon' I thought to myself before yawning. "It's late you should go back to Kaede's and get some sleep." Inuyasha stated. 'He's right I'm exhausted its been a long two days.' I thought as I stretched my arms before getting up. I took a few steps before stopping and throwing up my right hand and making a small wave. "Good night Inuyasha." "Yeah, good night Asami." He mumbled back. 'Maybe if he's not all that bad after all.' I thought.

Everyone was asleep when I returned to the hut. Taking my shoes off I laid down next to Kagome. "You should eat something Asami." Kaede said. "I'm fine I'm not hungry lady Kaede." Was my response as I closed my eyes drifting off to sleep.

"Asami, Asami wake up." I opened my eyes to see Kagome above me shaking me. "Huh, what is it." I asked. "Get up, we need to go home, and I think I've found the way." She stated. I sat up immediately accidentally headbutting Kagome in the process. "Ouch." We both simultaneously groaned. "Asami that hurt you need to be more careful." Kagome said rubbing her head. "Ow, I'm sorry Kagome." I apologized. "But what do you mean you think you found a way home?" I asked. Grabbing my hand, she pulled me to my feet. "Just come with me." She stated dragging me out of Kaede's home towards the forest.

After what felt like an eternity of walking in silence I finally spoke. "Kagome do you really think we can go home this way?" "I'm not sure but it's the best shot we have." Kagome replied.

"Oh, and what is our best shot anyway? You still haven't told me where we're going." I questioned. "The dry well in Inuyasha's forest. It's where we came out of. So maybe the way home is there." She stated continuing through the forest. "So, what we just through the well? What if it doesn't work and we break our bones or we get stuck down there and die?" I asked trailing behind her. "Well, that's just- "Kagome started but was cut off before I could say anything I was grabbed from behind and thrown over someone's shoulder. "Hey put me down what the fuck is your problem!" I shouted. "Be quiet girl or I'll cut your tongue out of your skull." My assailant said. I instantly paled at the thought. It wasn't too long until we reached an old hut that looked like it needed some serious repairs. The man holding Kagome kicked open the door with his foot. Everyone inside turned to us the man holding Kagome threw her to the floor holding to it by her hair. "A girl." One stated a confused look adorning his face. "No two." The man carrying me said throwing me down to the floor next to my sister then shoving my face to the floor. "Ow that hurt." I groaned out. "Two girls?" Another questioned cocking an eyebrow. "We bring the foreign vixens just as you commanded, master!" The one holding Kagome said. "Let us go! Who are you guys?!" Kagome shouted. They ignored Kagome's protests and continued their conversation as if the situation at hand was normal. "Ha! And a right foolish garb their folk wrapped them in!" The one pinning me down exclaimed. URRP BRAAP 'What is that noise? It sounds like it's coming from the man in front of us.' I thought to myself. "The jewel." The man in front of us muttered. "What?" Kagome questioned. "The jewel… give me the jewel." The man who I assumed was their leader muttered again. 'What is with everyone and this damn jewel. Did Kagome even bring it with her, or did she leave it in the village? I really hope for our sake a miracle happens so we can leave and go home already.' I thought.
