Zuko sighed gently as he put down his brush. It was the last thing he needed to do for the day and he was ready to turn in for the night. He couldn't wait to see his wife, who'd just gotten back from a visit to the Southern Water Tribe the previous day.
He hated that he had to get up early this morning when all he wanted to do was bask in the fact that his wife was home, but his duties as Fire Lord summoned him.
Just as Zuko stood up to leave his study, there was a knock on the door.
"Enter," he called out, though he didn't sit back down. He smiled when Katara appeared in the doorway, her hands behind her back.
"Close your eyes and hold out your hands," Katara told him.
Zuko was slightly confused but did as he was told, trusting her implicitly.
Something soft and fluffy was placed in his outstretched hands. He opened his eyes and looked down to see a tiny turtleduckling sitting in his cupped hands and looking at curiously.
"This little guy came up to me and let me pick him up," Katara explained. "I figured you'd probably had a long day so I thought he would make you feel better."
Zuko grinned, dragging his eyes away from the turtleduckling and looking at his wife. "Thank you. This is amazing."
Katara grinned back and the two of them looked back at the small creature in Zuko's hands, who had nestled down and was looking as though it was going to fall asleep.
