Chapter One - You lied to me
Dean Winchester was having a bad week. His brother kept starting fights with him out of nowhere and he had no idea what he did wrong. Sometimes it made him feel like they didn't speak the same language. Other times he just felt out of the loop when it came to Sam. Three weeks ago, Sam asked him if there was anything he should tell him and he said he didn't.
Well looking back, he wished he told the truth, but he didn't know what Sam was referring to but had a vague idea. The truth was that he was adopted as a baby and Sam was his parents' miracle baby. The more he thought about it the more he realized it didn't matter if they shared the same blood or not, so he chose to hide the papers.
He was in the shower trying to get his thoughts together at the hotel he and Sam were currently staying at while their dad was out on a hunting trip. What he didn't know was that his brother was going through his bag at the exact moment to look for what he had found three weeks ago already. It was an adoption certificate with other papers along with it all with his brother's name on them.
When he got out of the shower to dry off and put on some clothes, he stepped out to see Sam sitting in the middle of the floor. His duffle had been dumped out on his bed and the dreaded papers he didn't want Sam to ever see surrounded him. Sam was still staring at a paper with tears falling down his face and he didn't turn his head when he heard the bathroom door open.
"Why did you go through my bag?" he said weakly afraid of his brother's rejection. "That's my stuff, all of it!"
Sam stood up quickly and tossed the papers into his chest. "You lied to me. I found these three weeks ago and you didn't think to tell me."
"I didn't know that was what you were even mad about. I didn't know you even found them."
"Are you really not my real brother?" Sam barked. He didn't get an answer right away. "Answer me!"
"No, I'm not. It doesn't matter though. Does it matter to you?"
Sam didn't answer but turned his head to the side stuck in his own head. The silence made Dean think that that was confirmation that it did matter, and his brother no longer wanted him around so he started yelling what was in his head.
"Take that back! Right now! I've been there your whole life! I ran holding you when I was only four years old out of that burning house where our mom died on the ceiling. It's been my job to protect you from day one. I practically raised you all because dad was absent most of the time. I changed your diapers-"
"Dean-" Sam said noticing his brother getting worked up.
"No, you let me talk, you listen." he said weakly, meeting Sam's gaze before looking towards the door. " I was the first person you took your first steps to. I made sure you ate even if I had to go hungry. I was the first person you called by name. I taught you how to read and write. I did all that because I love you and then you tell me it does matter after all that-"
"DEAN-"
"No! I'm going for a ride. Don't follow me." he said sadly before taking out his wallet and taking some money out. "Here's some money to get you by for the next few days. I won't need it anymore."
"Dean, that's not what I said. What do you mean you won't need your money anymore?"
"Exactly what I said and it's too late now. Your silence confirmed it. Bye Sam."
Sam caught his arm as he was turning to leave and without thinking Dean punched him hard in his face. He looked at Sam like he was afraid of what he just did as Sam wiped his nose of blood but didn't apologize and then he was gone before his brother could stop him again.
