Chapter 31

Waiting Game

It was a week after Kara was rescued and she hadn't woken up. Jean refused to leave her side. Levi had to pry him away at times for him to sleep or eat, but someone always took Jean's place so that she wasn't alone.

"Will she wake up?" Eren asked.

"Her body book quite a toll. Broken nose, some ribs broken, and blood loss. She's got a strong will to live." Nifa said.

"Yeah, but she stays asleep any longer, Jean's gonna stop eating." Armiin said. The others sigh. They almost had to force him to eat the food that was given. Levi was just as bad, but he wasn't sleeping. Even though he would sleep 2 to 3 hours, he was getting none. Levi handed out tea cups.

"She's got a strong will to live." Mikasa said.

"She does. Just hate seeing Jean in so much stress." Conny said. Everyone nodded.

"Does the Commander know we are still here?" Christa asked, looking at Levi.

"I sent word with the MPs.." Levi was interupted with someone running into the door. Levi sighed.

"OW!" Hange's voice came. Christa opened the door and Hange ran in. "Where is she?!"

"Four eyes. She's injured and we're not moving her till she's awake." Levi said. Hange ran to the door that was closed and opened it. Jean shot up in the chair as Hange poked her head in.

"Section Commander Hange." Jean said. Hange saw the bags under his eyes.

"Oh, honey. You should get some sleep." Hange said.

"She's right. Go sleep. I'll send Sasha in." Levi ordered. Jean let go of Kara's hand and heads towards the door.

"No changes, Captain." Jean said. Levi nodded. Hange looked at Kara. There was a purple bruise on her neck and her nose was fixed and back to normal.

"She's so pale." Hange said.

"Why are you here Four eyes?" Levi asked.

"I was worried about Kara. Its been a week." Hange said.

"She's fine. Just hasn't woken up yet. She put up a fight with that pig." Levi said.

"I saw what you did to him after you got to her. He's really bruised up. Erwin thought you would kill him." Hange said.

"Jean wanted to, but he deserves to rot in jail. Sasha!" Levi called. Sasha hurried over. "Sit with Kara. I sent Jean to bed." Sasha quickly entered the room.

"I brought more food as well. Since you don't know how long you'll be here." Hange said.

"Christa. Mikasa. Start making food." Levi said.

"Shorty. You need sleep as well. You got more bags under your eyes then normal." Hange said. Levi sighed.

"I'll sleep when she's awake." Levi said. Hange shook her head.

"I'll stay for supper, but I have to get back. If she's awake, Erwin wants you to report to him for where you and your team will be staying while protecting Eren and Historia." Hange said. Levi nodded.

Kara felt her body starting to wake up. Her eyes flutter open. Pain radiated through her side.

"Kara?" Sasha's voice came. Kara blinked and saw an unfamiliar room.

"Sasha." Kara gasped. Her voice sounded hoarse.

"Thank the walls. You been out for a week." Sasha said.

"Jean?" Kara said.

"Hold on. I'll get him and your father." Sasha jumped up. Kara sat up slowly and gritted her teeth.

"Kara." Jean said, running in. He pulled her into a hug, being careful of her side. Kara wrapped her arms around him and hugged him. Jean burried his face in her hair, relieved she was alright and awake.

"Let me hug her." Levi said with an annoyed voice. Jean let her go.

"Father." Kara said. Levi pulled her into a hug.

"Glad your alright, brat." Levi said.

"What about Marcus?" Kara asked.

"The bastard is going to rot in prison." Jean said. Kara sighed in relief. Kara told them what Marcus told her about being Noble. "Wait so he's from a Noble Family."

"Apparently. Not that I want anything to do with that family." Kara said.

"That's your choice. I'm glad your alright, brat. We'll be leaving soon to get to our next mission." Levi said. He left the room and the others burst into the room, causing Kara to laugh weakly. Christa brought in food for Kara and she felt her stomach growl. Jean sat on the bed next to her as she ate. Their friends sat talking and laughing, happy to see Kara awake. Kara enjoyed the Company.

"Glad your awake, Kara. Horseface here wouldn't sleep or eat." Eren said.

"Stop calling me that, Suicidal Maniac." Jean growled.

"Come on you two. I just woke up and I don't want you two fighting." Kara said, pulling Jean down to sit before the two got into a fist fight. Mikasa whispered to Eren.

"But he's right. Jean. Go get food." Armin said. Jean went to get food. "He was really worried about you."

"Thought we would have to shove the food down his throat." Conny said.

"Thanks for keeping an eye on him." Kara said. Jean came back with food and sat down to eat. Kara yawned as she finished. The others left. Jean went to leave, but Kara stopped him. "Please stay."

"Let me put the plates away and I'll stay." Jean said, kissing her check. Jean took the plates and left for the kitchen. Kara snuggled down under the blankets, flinching as she pulled the stitches in her side. Jean came back in and got under the covers. He pulled her against him, wanting her to be close for fear of losing her.

"I love you." Kara whispered. Jean smiled.

"I love you too, Pipsqueak." Jean said.

Later that night. Levi went to check on his daughter and found her snuggled into Jean, both were asleep. A small smile appeared on his face. After what she went through, Levi wasn't going to have Jean leave her side. Both needed each other. Levi left the room. For now they could have peace, but he knew it wasn't going to last.
