Chapter 44

Talk with the Grandparents

Kara stood in Hange's office with Levi and Jean. Kara asked for Jean to be there and Levi agreed. Jean stood next to Kara. Levi looked like he wasn't happy about this. Hange looked stressed. The grandparents stood in front of them. Levi ordred Jean that if it got to much for Kara, to get her out of there in a heartbeat. Kara was already getting a headache from the Grandmothers words.

"She should of not been adopted. We could of taken her. Her grandfather wants to see his only grandchild with his health going down." The grandmother said. The grandfather did look sickly. Hange had a soldier bring in a chair for him. "And with her rankings she could of been in Military Police. Not the Scouts."

"We didn't know she had family yet, just the father. So Levi had right to take her since she bonded with him." Hange said.

"When I met her she wanted the Scouts, not the Military Police. It was her choice. So stop standing around squababling like pigs." Levi said. Kara looked at her father relief. "She is now in training to be a Squad Lead along with her boyfriend." There was pride in Levi's voice on that. The Grandmother looked down her nose on Levi. Levi stood with his arms crossed, holding his ground. Jean gently took Kara's hand. "I am her father legally. And Kara can make her decisions if she wants you in her life. But she made it clear at the award ceremony after helping take down Wall Maria that she wants nothing to do with you old farts." The Grandma looked like she wanted to say something but the Grandfather stoopped her.

"I never approved of the relationship between the two, but I wanted to meet my granddaughter for a long time. We just got word Marcus was put in jail for killing his wife and almost his daughter." The grandfather said. He shot a glare at his wife. Kara saw kindness in the grandfather's eyes while there was hatred in her Grandmother's eyes. "We are having a party this weekend and would like for her to come." Kara looked at Jean.

"It's up to Kara if she wants to go. We won't force her to go if she doesn't want to." Hange said. Jean looked at her.

"I'll go, but I want Jean with me." Kara said, looking at Hange. Hange nodded. Jean sighed in relief.

"He's..." Kara put her hand up shutting the Grandmother up.

"If he does't come with then I'm not going. Simple as that." Kara said with a cold edge to her voice.

"I would rather her go with someone she knows then be with people she doesn't know." Levi said.

"Thank you, Captain." Jean said. The Grandmother looked like she was having smoke coming out of her nose that she wasn't getting her way.

"That is fine for this young man to come. He seems to have good manners and its just for a night." The Grandfather said.

"Fine, but it's a formal dinner and both need to dress up." The Grandmother said.

"They will be." Levi said. The grandparents left. "I'm glad your not going by yourself."

"I wouldn't go without him." Kara said.

"Take the day off and go shopping for what is needed. You'll get a pay early so you can shop." Hange said with a sigh.

"Thank you." Kara said.

"Now go before we change our minds. You can take a few friends with." Levi said.

"Let's go see if Conny and Sasha want to come with." Jean said. Levi watched the kids leave hand in hand.

"You sure its a good idea to send her?" Hange said.

"Their was no coldness in the Grandfather's eyes. I think the Grandmother wears the pants in the family and he wants to see his granddaughter. Jean will keep an eye on her. She'll be fine." Levi said. Hange hoped he was right. Hange knew if Levi lost another one he cared about he probably break.
