Chapter 46

Just Wake Up

Jean sat out in the waiting room with his head in his hands. The nurses had taken Kara from him and took her in the backroom. His white shirt was covered in blood from where her bloody hand had rested. He had taken off his tie and jacket. He was kicking himself. It had been a wonderful night and it ended with Kara being poisoned.

"Jean!" Jean looked up and saw Marco running towards him. "Nile just told me and let me come since he knows Kara is a friend. Any word?"

"No." Jean said. Marco looked worried as he sat with Jean. "I just left her alone for a minute and this is what happens. We shouldn't have come to that party." Jean had explained the party.

"Nile said the Grandmother is in custody and the Grandfather had no idea she was going to do it." Marco said.

"That doesn't surprise me." Jean said. Jean leaned his head against the wall. The wait was nerve racking. The door burst open, and Levi stormed into the hospital with Hange, Conny, and Sasha right behind him. Jean and Marco quickly stand up and salute Hange.

"Where is she?" Levi demanded. Jean flinched at the Captains tone.

"They took her in shortly after I brought her here. I haven't heard anything. I don't think they will answer me because I'm not family." Jean said. Levi looked at Jean. There was anger in his eyes. "Captain. I'm sorry. She needed the bathroom before we left, and we were leaving. The grandmother cornered her in the bathroom. It's my fault."

"I don't blame you for any of this Jean. Don't blame yourself." Levi said. Levi grabbed a nurse as she came into the room. "I'm Levi Ackerman. Kara is my daughter. What is the word on her condition?"

"She's stable and we were able to get a cure for the poison the young man was able to bring to us. She's asleep right now. I was just coming to see if family or the boy was here. He said she was his fiancé." The nurse said. Everyone turned on Jean, who quickly flinched out of the way. In the rush to get her to the doctors. He accidently let it slip Kara was his fiancé.

"Fiancé?" Hange asked. Jean rubbed the back of his neck as Levi glared at him.

"We were going to tell everyone after Wall Maria was taken back and stuff just got bad that we decided to wait. We got engaged the night before we went to Wall Maria. I wanted to know before we went to our deaths. We were going to tell after the party but look how that ended. We weren't gonna keep it a secret for long and we're gonna wait a few years to get married." Jean said. Conny and Sasha hug him. Levi seemed to calm a bit.

"This conversation isn't over. " Levi growled.

"I'll take you to her." The Nurse said, uncomfortably. The nurse led them to the room. Kara was paler then normal again and was out of the dress and in a hospital gown. Jean stood in the door with the others as Levi and Hange approach the bed. Her hand was wrapped in bandages.

"The poison was used on a knife that sliced her hand. There were no witnesses, but the Grandmother claimed she tried to attack." Nile said, coming in.

"That doesn't sound like Kara. If Kara got cornered. She was trying to escape and would have attacked if she was attacked." Hange said. Nile nodded.

"She's being held in jail till we get Kara's statement. We'll give her a couple days to rest when she wakes up." Nile said.

"Thank you, Nile." Hange said. Levi nodded.

"Let's go get a room. Jean. You're welcome to stay here with her. Send word with Marco or one of the MPs that are staying if she wakes up." Levi ordered.

"Yes, Captain." Jean said. Everyone but Marco left.

"So engaged?" Marco said with a smirk. Jean sighed.

"Like I explained to her father. We had been through so much." Jean said.

"I get it. I'm just glad she's alright. We been through so much with Cadet corps with her. Is Bertholdt really dead and Armin has the Colossal." Marco asked as they took their seats in the chairs.

"It's true." Jean said. Jean sat telling Marco everything that happened. Marco was surprised to hear everything that had happened.

"I told you that you be a good leader. Looks like you are becoming one along with Kara." Marco said, putting a hand on Jean's shoulder. Jean nodded. He was exhausted. It was near midnight, but he couldn't sleep. Not with Kara lying unconscious on the bed. Jean took Kara's not bandaged hand.

"Don't you dare die on me Pipsqueak. We still have to see what's past the walls together." Jean said. Marco hated seeing his friend in so distress.

Kara woke up to her head pounding and in a hospital room.

'I really need to stop getting injured.' Kara thought. Her hand throbbed. Kara lifted it and saw it bandaged and the memory of the party came back. Kara sat up and her world spun.

"Kara." Jean and Marco's voice came. Kara saw both her friend and boyfriend sitting on either side of her.

"Guys!" Kara said. Kara was engulfed in Jean's arms, and she clung to his shirt.

"Marco. Go get Levi and Hange. Let them know she's awake." Jean said, pressing a kiss to her head. Marco hugged Kara quick and slipped out of the room.

"Dad is here in Wall Siena with Hange?" Kara said.

"Nile sent a messenger soon as I left for the hospital. He was pissed." Jean said, looking away.

"What is it?" Kara said.

"I accidently let it slip that you were my fiancé in a rush to get you here and Nurse told Levi and the others. I had to tell them. I'm sorry for that." Jean said. Kara kissed his check.

"It happens. They know now." Kara said. Jean grabbed her checks.

"I thought I lost you." Jean said in a whisper.

"You came close. Where is she?" Kara asked.

"In prison and she won't be getting out long as you cooperate with Nile." Levi said, entering with Hange, Sasha, and Conny. Sasha and Conny ran over and hug their friend. Marco was right behind them. Levi waited patiently. Levi pulled Kara into a huge hug.

"You're giving me grey hairs, Brat. I hate hearing you hurt. So enough of this." Levi growled.

"Yes father." Kara said. Hange gave her a hug.

"The training can wait for awhile so your hand can heal, but you'll have to help Jean out." Hange said.

"Yes Commander." Kara said.

"We're gonna head back. We'll expect you back when your released and you both talk to Nile. He will the only one doing your questioning since you trust him." Levi said. Kara and Jean nodded. Levi gave his daughter one last hug which surprised Kara. Usually it was one hug, but she wasn't complaining. Everyone left.

"I'm gonna head out. I wanted to check on you, Kara. We are so busy that it was nice to come see you. We should do lunch sometime." Marco said, hugging Kara and shaking hands with Jean. "Congratulations on the engagement."

"Thank you." Kara and Jean said. Marco left and Jean looked at Kara.

"You going to leave me as well?" Kara asked with a smirk.

"Nah. I'm staying. Scoot over, Pipsqueak." Jean said. Kara moved over so Jean was laying where her good arm was. Jean pulled her against him. "You know I had fun at the party till the incident."

"I did too. I regretted going in as soon as I saw her." Kara said. Jean pressed his lips against hers and she returned the kiss. "Though you didn't get to rip that dress off me." Kara smirked at him. Jean chuckled and flicked her nose.

"Next time, love. I'll get my chance eventually. Get some rest." Jean said. Kara snuggled close to him and let sleep take her. Jean passed out shortly after.

Kara was released two days later, and Jean was allowed to stay with her. Kara and Jean reported to Nile who took her statement. He didn't seem happy about what occurred. Jean didn't trust the man at times, but he was being nice to Kara.

"We're back." Kara said, entering Hange's office. Levi was sipping his tea.

"Oh, good your back. So do you want to tell us your news." Hange said, looking up from her papers. Jean and Kara looked at each other. "So, it's true?"

"It is." Kara said. Hange squealed and ran and hugged her.

"I don't like how it was asked and long as you're willing to wait a few years. I approve." Levi said.

"Yes, Captain." Kara and Jean said. Kara ran and hugged her dad. He made sure to have a good grip on his cup.

"Ooh. It should be a big wedding." Hange said. Kara turned.

"Actually. We would rather have friends and family." Kara said. Her and Jean had time to talk as she healed in the hospital. Jean nodded.

"Can we have a day off so we can tell my mother?" Jean asked.

"We can make it work." Hange said. She gave Kara a huge squeeze. "I'm so happy to see our little Kara happy." Kara smiled.

"Go get the newbies whipped and in shape. Kara. You're on kitchen duty for now with the hand. I'll send Eren to help you." Levi said.

"Yes, Captain." Jean and Kara said. They disappear.

AN: I wouldn't kill her off. Especially if we want her and Jean to have a happy life for now. Gonna be heading into Season 4 after next chapter. Till next time.
