Kate lazily rolled out of bed when Sam's alarm went off. She was groggy and glad that she hadn't stayed up later. She looked through her closet and frowned. She had grown since Alex had given her clothes and she needed to go through and figure out what fit.
"Can't find anything?" Sam asked as he grabbed his own clothes.
Kate sighed. "No. The only things that still fit are dresses and the two pair of pants that are dirty."
Sam shrugged. "So wear a dress. Wear shorts under it and drop kick anyone who says anything."
Kate smiled and grabbed a blue dress from the hanger.
"Tell Bobby and he can see if Alex's mom can send another box. If not I can take you to get some new clothes."
Kate hugged him and went to get ready. She looked in the mirror and frowned. She dug around in her bag and found the stuff that Ellie had given her. She picked a set of earrings and put them on. She put on a bracelet and then looked at herself. She tentatively stepped out of the bathroom and approached Sam.
Sam smiled. "You look nice."
Kate crinkled her nose. "I normally don't?"
Sam ruffled her hair. "You know what I mean."
Kate chewed her lip. "Could you braid my hair?"
Sam braided her hair in two braids and patted her back to let her know he was done. "Is there a reason you are dressing up today?"
Kate rolled her eyes. "I'm a girl. I'm supposed to like girly stuff."
Sam nodded. "I'm just giving you a hard time."
Kate stuck her tongue out and put her stuff away and went downstairs.
Bobby turned and looked at her.
"Don't start." Kate said lightly.
Bobby shrugged. "I wasn't going to say anything."
"Can I go to a baseball game this weekend?" Kate asked.
Bobby said he saw no reason she couldn't.
Kate quickly ate breakfast and grabbed her shoes then slung her backpack on her back. "Bye Bobby!"
Sam put their dishes in the sink and grabbed his own stuff. He smirked when he saw that she still went for her converse. He hadn't realized how much she had grown and it hit him that two years had went by since she arrived at Bobby's. She had come a long way in those two years. She had lost some of her innocence and that made him sad. She had been through more than most adults had.
Kate ran up the steps of the school and turned to wave at Sam before he drove away. She found Ellie and stopped to talk to her.
"You are wearing the earrings!" Ellie said with excitement.
Kate grinned. "I really like them." She blushed when she made eye contact with Taylor.
Taylor smiled brightly. "Did you ask about the game?"
Kate smiled back. "Yep, they said I could go."
Taylor put his elbow on Ellie's head. "Are you coming too?"
Ellie pushed him away. "Do I have a choice?"
The bell rung and all of the kids scatter to their respective classes. Summer was right around the corner and everyone was antsy. Kate and Ellie's class had an end of year party coming up and Sam was due to graduate.
Sam could see the light at the end of the tunnel with high school. He had made it. School was important to him and graduating high school with good grades had been a dream of his. He had moved schools so many times and graduation was something he hadn't really considered. He didn't think he would be in one place long enough to walk across a stage. Kate had made that possible. Plans were being made and the teachers were having students practice how they would walk out. Sam's councilor had told him that they liked to announce which college the student was going to when they handed them the diploma. Sam felt a little sick. He wanted his dad there but would need to talk to him before. He chided himself. His dad would probably be off hunting anyway.
Kate went to her normal spot at recess. She liked having a vantage point to watch people. Taylor and Ellie joined her at the top of the bars and they shared a candy bar. They talked carelessly and soaked up the free time.
"You aren't covering your arm." Taylor said with a smile.
Kate rubbed her arm. "Just while I am up here. I'll put my cover on before I go inside."
Ellie squinted at her arm. "When did you do that?"
Kate blushed. "A while back. I got burned."
Ellie shrugged. "It is hot. You don't have to wear a sweater."
Kate chewed her fingers. "I know but people are annoying."
Ellie swung her feet. "Have you seen the cool scar on her leg?"
Taylor shook his head.
Kate glared at Ellie.
"What did you do to your leg?" Taylor asked.
Kate sighed. "I can show you." She said and pulled up the side of her dress.
Taylor stopped her. "Don't do that. I feel like your brother is going to shoot me in the back of the head."
Kate laughed. "I have on shorts."
Taylor grimaced and covered his face. He opened one eye and saw the long scars down the front of her leg. "That must have been deep."
"It was." Kate said and put the hem of her dress down.
"A bear did it!" Ellie said with amazement.
Kate wondered if she could compel Ellie to keep her mouth shut.
Taylor looked at Kate for a few seconds and shrugged. "It is a pretty cool scar."
Kate smiled. "Thanks."
Taylor leaned back and hung upside down on the monkey bars. He didn't know what had given her that scar but he knew it wasn't a bear.

Dean met up with, Jacob, a friend of John's to help him on a case. They had set up base at a motel near the area that children were going missing from. They mapped out the disappearances and a list of possible supernatural suspects. Some of the children had eventually returned but had died days later. On the third day they had a breakthrough in the case and found an abandoned mineshaft.
Jacob held up his hand because he heard something.
Dean stopped and slid next to the damp wall. He could hear crying.
Jacob flicked his hand and slowly inched down the long passage way
Dean's heart twisted as he recognized the sound of a child crying. He shook the emotions away. He knew that many creatures could mimic the sound and it could be a trap.
Jacob was certain that they were dealing with an ancient witch hybrid that fed on children. The witch had been alive for so long that it lost its human side and fed erratically.
Dean knew that fire was a sure way to get rid of a witch.
Jacob stepped into an open room and Dean stepped behind him. They cleared the room of any sign of creatures. They found three kids huddled together in a far corner.
"We are here to help you." Jacob said softly.
One of the boys whimpered and said that an old lady had taken the other girl.
Dean told Jacob to get the kids out and walked quietly in the direction the boy had pointed. He heard the crying again and slowed his breathing. He turned a corner and saw the creature crouching over the body of a little girl. "Hey! Get away from her." The creature hissed and lunged at him. He was pushed back into the rocks but quickly regained his footing and got between the creature and the girl. He lit a makeshift flame thrower and hoped that it worked. The creature screeched as the flames consumed it but soon, the screeching stopped and the creature collapsed into ashes. Dean let out a huge breath and turned back to the little girl. He touched her face. "Can you open your eyes for me?"
The little girl was weak but tried to open her eyes.
"What is your name?"
She mumbled "Elaina."
"Okay, Elaina. Are you injured?" Dean asked.
She whimpered.
Dean cursed under his breath. "I'm going to get you out of here, okay?" He scooped her up and quickly left the mineshaft. In the daylight he got a good look at her and his heart shattered. She had curly blonde hair and blue eyes like Kate. She was weak and worryingly pale. He spoke softly to her as he made his way through the woods, back to Jacob's car.
Jacob had given the other children some water and crackers. He took Elaina and wrapped her in a blanket. "The cops are on their way up here with medical."
Dean cupped Elaina's face. "You hear that? You are okay."
Jacob touched Dean's arm. "You might want them to look at you while they are up here."
Dean looked down and groaned. He pulled off his flannel and assessed the damage to his arm. "It is just a cut."
"They can stitch you up. I can handle the cover story." Jacob said.
Dean poured water down his arm. "It is a clean cut. It isn't that bad."
Jacob told him that he could take care of it when he got back to the motel.
Dean chuckled. "I have someone at home that has been practicing stitches and I think this would be a good job for her."
Jacob shrugged but sent Dean on his way. He told the kids that they couldn't say anything about his partner because he was like a masked superhero and they had seen him without his mask. The kids seemed to like that. He held Elaina and waited for the sirens to get closer.
Dean drove down the road and then stopped to wrap his arm. The cut wasn't life threatening and could wait to be sewn up. He grabbed his stuff from the motel and drove straight to Bobby's house.
Kate and Sam met Dean outside as soon as he pulled up.
Kate looked at his arm. "What happened?"
Dean smirked. "I saved some kids."
Sam took his duffle and gear.
Kate followed him inside and pushed him toward the table. "Are you injured?"
Dean unwrapped his arm. "Just a little cut but I thought I'd get my own personal medic to stitch me up."
Kate nervously licked her lips. "I haven't done stitches on a person before."
Dean sat down. "You have to start somewhere."
"What if I mess up?" Kate said.
Dean ruffled her hair. "Sam can help. It isn't a deep wound so you have some wiggle room for messing up."
Kate looked at Bobby for approval before getting the aid kit. She washed her hands and cleaned Dean's arm. She laid out all of the things she needed and looked through the bag for something to numb the skin with. "I don't know how much of this to use." She said.
"I don't need that. It is best to save that for when you really need it."
Kate grimaced. "I don't want to hurt you."
Dean gave her a small smile. "I'll let you know if it is too much."
Kate looked at the wound and thought carefully about everything she had learned. She positioned his arm and showed Sam how to help. She got the first suture ready and took a deep breath. "Are you ready?"
Dean nodded and took a drink of the whiskey Bobby had given him. He forced himself not to flinch as she started the first stitch.
Kate had underestimated how hard the task would be. Puncturing skin felt gross and she was so worried that she was going to mess up. She got the first stitch done and tied it. "How does that look?"
Dean looked at his arm. "Looks good, keep going."
Kate placed thirteen more stitches before she reached the other end of the laceration. She set the needle down and wiped tears from her eyes.
Bobby got a closer look at Dean's arm. "This looks really good, Katie."
Kate sighed. "Will it stay?"
Bobby gently cleaned around the new stitches. "I have seen a lot of stitches in my time and this is good work."
Sam helped Bobby wrap Dean's arm and gave him some ibuprofen. "How does it feel?"
Dean smirked. "It feels great."
Bobby took an empty glass from Dean. "Feeling a bit tipsy?"
Dean shook his head. "I'm not drunk."
Kate rolled her eyes. She pulled his other arm. "You need to get cleaned up and then sleep for a little while."
Dean raised his brow. "I don't need to sleep."
Kate huffed. "I'm the one that stitched you up so that means that I'm in charge."
Dean looked at Bobby who nodded his head. "I'd listen to her."
Sam took Dean's arm and put it over his shoulder. "Up we go. Don't want you to fall on Kate." He helped Dean to the bathroom and sat him down.
Kate grabbed a warm cloth and wiped Dean's face and neck. She helped him pull his shirt off and fussed at him when he tried to take the cloth. "You are a horrible patient."
Dean grinned. "I've been told that before."
Once she was satisfied that he was clean enough she let Sam get him to bed. She looked at the time. "It is already late so you might as well just go to bed for the night."
Dean chuckled. "I'm not a kid."
Kate put her hands on her hips. "If you trip going down the stairs and bust those stitches I swear I will kick your butt."
Dean flopped back onto his pillow. "Sammy, has she always been this bossy?"
Sam shrugged. "I think it is becoming a thing."
Dean threw his good arm over his eyes. "Fix that for me, okay?"
Sam threw Dean's legs on the bed and shook his head. "I'm staying out of this one."
Kate pulled his blanket up. She sat down on the side of the bed and gently patted his chest. "Is your arm okay?"
Dean moved the arm from his eyes. "Yeah. You did a really good job. I waited until I got back here because I knew you would do a better job than Jacob could. Thanks."
Kate sighed. "I'll be up here in just a little bit so I can go to bed. Let me know if you need anything. You took care of me when I got hurt so please let me take care of you." She placed a kiss on his forehead and turned out the light.
Dean mumbled something and threw the arm back over his eyes.
Kate walked downstairs and ran into Bobby. She hugged him around the waist and let the tears fall.
"What is wrong?" Bobby asked.
Kate sniffled. "That was hard."
He rubbed her back. "I wasn't kidding. You did good work. Don't push yourself like that if it is going to make you sad."
Kate shook her head. "This is what I am meant to do. I just held it together and just needed to breathe a little."
Bobby made her some hot chocolate and sat down at the table. "What 11 year old can say they stitched somebody up?"
Kate shrugged. "Probably just me."
Bobby gave her a wink. "You are something else."
Kate smiled. "Can we maybe get the spray stuff that helps a little with pain. The kind you can get when you get shots?"
Bobby scratched his chin. "I don't see why not."
Kate took a sip of her drink. "I could tell the first few hurt but I don't want to deal with drunk Dean every time I have to stich him up."
Bobby laughed. "That wasn't drunk Dean. That as slightly tipsy and exhausted Dean."
Kate smiled. "It is always good to have a plan B."
Bobby handed Kate a slip of paper. "Write down what ever you want and I'll see if I can get my hands on it."
############
Dean woke up the next morning and opened one eye. "Kate, you are lucky I didn't hit you."
Kate sat back. "I didn't startle you."
Dean opened the other eye. "Waking up to someone's face two inches from your own is a little startling."
Kate huffed. "Well I see you are feeling better."
He sat up and looked at his arm. "My arm hasn't fallen off."
Kate punched his good arm. "I'm glad you are okay."
Dean ruffled her hair. "You made sure of that."
Kate pulled a cup of coffee off the night stand and handed it to Dean. "Do you want something for the pain?"
Dean shook his head. "It isn't that bad. Just a little sore."
Kate sat on her own bed. "I'm going to Taylor's baseball game today."
Dean sipped his coffee. "Oh are you?"
Kate shrugged. "Would you want to come with me?"
Dean stretched. "So I can keep an eye on you?"
Kate blushed. "No, because I want you to go with me."
Dean smiled. "Yeah what time?"
"Around lunch time. When you get a shower don't get those stitches wet." She said as she left the room.
Dean scoffed. "I know how to take care of stitches, Katie."
She stuck her head back in the door. "Good, then you'll listen for once."
Dean shook his head and smiled to himself. John would be amused with the mini medic.
Kate sat down at the table and took one of Sam's grapes. "Are you going to the game with me? Dean is going."
Sam pulled the bowl of extra grapes towards Kate. "Sure."
Bobby passed Kate a plate. "I have to do some stuff around here. Are you good with just the boys?"
Kate smiled. "Yes. I'll let you know if they cause any trouble."
Bobby smirked. "Keep an eye on your brother." He said to Sam.
Kate talked Dean into leaving early so she could run around with Ellie.
Dean agreed and invited Lacy so that he would have some time with her.
Sam was happy to read and people watch while everyone was busy. It wasn't that he didn't want a girlfriend but he figured that he could think about that once he got to campus. He noted how Kate's face lit up when she saw Taylor and it made him happy to see her happy. Taylor seemed like a good kid and he didn't crowd her the way that boys tended to with young girls. Ellie was bubbly and never stopped talking but seemed like a good friend. He felt less guilty about leaving, knowing that Kate had other people she could talk to.
Taylor tossed a ball to Kate. "Have you ever played baseball?"
Kate shook her head. "No."
He showed her how to hold the ball and demonstrated how to throw it. He backed away a few feet and held his glove up.
Kate thought that it wasn't too far off from throwing knives and threw the ball at the glove.
Taylor smiled. "I'm going to back up a little." He tossed the ball back but told her not to catch it without a glove. He stepped back further to see how far she could throw. He caught the ball midair and felt the sting in his hand. "Are you sure you have never played before?"
Kate grinned and shook her head. "Nope."
He ran back over and gave her the glove. "You can catch now." He threw a few balls and was impressed with how well she could catch. "You should do softball."
Kate shrugged. "Sports aren't really my thing."
They tossed a ball around for a little while and Taylor was thrown off by how much power Kate had behind her arm. She was strong but she was also weirdly accurate. It wasn't that he didn't think girls could throw but Kate must be deceptively strong.
Sam watched Taylor and Kate toss the ball around with Ellie. Sam noticed the difference between Kate and Ellie as well. It didn't surprise him due to the training and exercise that Kate had.
Once it was time for Taylor's team to play, Dean and Lacy walked over and sat down. He nudged Kate. "Which one is your boy?"
Kate scrunched her face. "He isn't my boy but he's number 8."
Dean put his arm around Lacy and leaned back to watch the game. He couldn't remember the last game he had been to.
Taylor was up to bat and effortlessly knocked the ball over the fence. He jogged around the bases and was enveloped by his teammates once he got to home.
Sam sat forward and watched him more intently. He noticed that Taylor seemed stronger and more accurate than the other kids as well. It wasn't until Taylor's second home run that he got genuinely curious. He leaned over and mumbled to Dean. "Is it just me or is that kid a little too good."
Dean sat forward as well. "He could just be one of those kids with talent."
Kate glared at both of them. "Stop doing that."
Sam looked at her. "What?"
"Having in depth conversations with few words."
Sam snorted. "We are just impressed with Taylor. That is all."
Kate narrowed her eyes. "He has been playing since he was five so calm down."
Sam shrugged and went back to watching the game. He thought about tossing a ball around with Taylor after the game to get a feel of how strong the kid was. Kate was strong for her age and size but that was because she trained with Dean. There were only a few reasons for someone to be that far ahead of their peers and Sam wanted to narrow those reasons down.
Taylor and Ellie's brother's team won the game so the majority of the team left to celebrate. Taylor stayed behind because his dad couldn't pick him up.
"Do you want us to drive you home?" Kate asked.
"No thanks. My brother should be here in a little while." Taylor said.
Sam tossed a ball in the air and told Taylor to catch.
Taylor shrugged and ran back a few feet.
Kate watched them throw the ball back and forth for a bit. "How far can you throw?"
Taylor tossed the ball in the air. "I don't know."
Sam stepped to the side and let Taylor launch the ball. "You have a great arm."
Taylor rolled his shoulder. "Thanks."
"You must practice a lot."
Taylor turned slightly red. "Uh, yeah. I get bored."
Sam came back with the ball. "Is baseball the only sport you play?"
Taylor eyed him suspiciously. "I do jiu-jitsu too."
Sam threw the ball to him.
Dean put his elbow on Kate's head. He wondered what were the chances that the one over powered, trained to fight kid in school had set his eyes on Kate, just by coincidence.
"I bet that is fun. I should do that." Kate said and looked at Dean.
Dean ruffled her hair. "You'd beat up all the boys."
Kate rolled her eyes.
A horn honked and Taylor grabbed his stuff. "That's my ride. See you Monday." He said to Kate.
Kate waved and walked back to Sam and Dean. "Why are you making that face?"
Dean furrowed his brows. "What face?"
Kate scoffed. "That one."
Sam sighed. "Doesn't it strike you as odd that he can hit a ball over the fence every time he is up to bat?"
Kate tilted her head. "What do you mean?"
"Katie, I as throwing a ball with him because I was kind of testing out how hard he was throwing. The kid has some serious power." Sam said.
Kate groaned. "Isn't that a good thing?"
Dean opened the car door. "It can be but it is just odd. He handled my gun perfectly when I let him see it."
Kate rolled her eyes. "Guys, come one. I am strong. I know how to handle a gun and I know how to fight."
Sam looked at her. "And why is that?"
"Because you guys trained me." Kate said slowly.
"Why did we train you?" Sam asked.
She paused. "Because we are hunters." She thought for a few minutes. "Do you think he is a hunter?"
Dean rubbed his head. "I don't know. Has anything been off about him? Have you done any tests? I hate to say it but you do have a target on your back."
Kate huffed loudly. "Yes of course I did the tests!"
Sam turned around in his seat. "Did you have suspicions?"
Kate bit her cheek. "I tested Ellie too. I don't have many friends and I get anxious when people go out of their way to want to hang out with me."
Dean frowned. "I'm sorry. We aren't trying to make you anxious."
Kate sighed. "I'm not new to the game. I know how things work. He is a lot like me and I think that is why we like to hang out. I showed him my leg."
Dean whipped his head around. "You did what?"
Kate's eyes got big. "I had on shorts! I mean I wore a dress to school but had shorts under."
Dean shook his head. "While I am pleased that you are keeping modesty in mind, why would you show him that?"
Kate hung her head. "He saw the one on my arm and made me feel better about it. He has scars too."
Dean sighed. "I didn't mean to snap. I just want you to stay safe."
Kate shrugged. "I told him a bear did it but he didn't ask questions."
Taylor jumped out of his brother's car and went straight to his room. He looked out his window briefly before drawing the curtains closed. He really did like Kate. She was different than the other girls. She was an old soul and he wanted to know her story. He swallowed the bubbling fear of his own story being brought to light. He knew when someone was digging for information and Sam's questions at the ballfield didn't go unnoticed. He didn't know what was going on but he felt that he and Kate had more in common than just scars and overbearing older brothers.

Author's note. Do we think Taylor is good or bad for Kate?
