Kate didn't remember falling asleep but assumed someone had carried her from the car to her bed. She stretched and checked the time. Sam and Dean were still asleep so she tip toed out of the room with her notebook and pencils. Bobby and John were already awake which foiled her plan.

"You are up early." Bobby said with a smile.

Kate sat her notebook down. "Did I fall asleep on the way home?"

John chuckled. "You all but headbutted the table at the diner."

Kate blushed "I think the excitement got to me."

John poured a tiny bit of coffee in a cup with some milk. "Here."

Kate grinned. "Dean never lets me have coffee."

"A little bit wont hurt you." John said and gave her a wink.

Kate sipped her "coffee" and drew in her notebook.

"Missouri has been digging around trying to find some additional information on these papers of Taylor's and your Scottish heritage." John said.

Kate looked at him. "Did she find anything?"

"She got some more information from Ada. I can't say that any of it answered as many questions as it caused more to be asked." John answered.

"That seems to be the story of my life." Kate grumbled.

John told her the story that he had gotten from Missouri.

Kate was wide eyed and enthralled. "So our families do overlap but not genetically? What burned those guys? What does grace mean?"

John sighed. "Those are the questions that we asked too. Ada left and her spirit is free now so we can't ask her."

Kate sat back in her chair. The entire story was mystical. "I guess I have a lot of summer research to do."

"We all do. For now, keep that bracelet on. We may find a way for you to be comfortable without it but that seems to be doing the trick for now." John said.

Kate turned her arm over to look at the bracelet. She had gotten used to it. She missed being able to use her abilities at a whim but didn't miss the constant trouble she landed in.

John hadn't spoken to her much about the ordeal since Dean got a handle on it. "So, Sam added his name to your list?" He asked with a smirk.

Kate choked on her toast and turned bright red. "No! I mean, no." She grinned sheepishly.

John gave her a dimpled grin.

"He.. he.. that didn't count." Kate stammered.

John rubbed his face and smiled. "That is what Sam said."

Kate crossed her arms. "New topic."

John put his hands up in defense.

Bobby shook his head.

"Where are you going next?" Kate asked.

John stretched. "Georgia."

"What is down there?"

"I don't know for sure yet but a buddy of mine asked me to help him so I'll go do that." John answered.

Kate chewed her fingers. "What is going on?"

John sat forward. "People are disappearing. Some have been found far away from where they were taken with no memory of who they are or what happened."

Kate gasped. "What if it is aliens."

John and Bobby both chuckled. "There is no such thing." Bobby said.

Kate furrowed her brows. "There could be."

"If it turns out to be an alien you will be the first person I'll call." John said.

Kate grinned. "I'm going to keep a list of things you guys say aren't real just so I can say I told you so when they turn out to be real."

John sat back again and smiled slightly.

Dean walked down the stairs.

"You need a hair cut." Kate said and stood on her chair to smooth the top of his hair down.

"I do? You do." Dean grumbled.

"I'll let you cut my hair if you let me cut yours." Kate said with a grin.

Dean pulled his head back. "I'm not letting you near me with anything sharp."

Kate sat down in her chair. "You are no fun."

Dean reached for the coffee pot. "Let me wake up before you start hounding me."

Kate stood up and stretched. "I'm going to go draw for a little bit."

Dean took her chair and sipped his coffee. "She is in a good mood."

Bobby smirked. "Someone gave her coffee."

John acted like he had no idea what Bobby meant.

"Dad, seriously?" Dean said.

John chuckled. "Just a little bit. She will be fine."

Kate was laying on the floor drawing for quite a while before anyone came into the living room. Sam had woken up and Bobby had went to his office. Kate looked at the drawing she hadn't quite finished. Worry built up in her chest. What if she hurt them worse? What if this wasn't a good idea? She held the book to her chest and creeped into Bobby's office.

Bobby sat back. "I know that look. What did you do?"

Kate fidgeted. "I had an idea and now I'm not sure it is a good idea."

Bobby sighed. "Go on."

"I can explain but here." She handed Bobby the drawing she had made for John.

Bobby rubbed the back of his neck. "Is this from yesterday?"

Kate chewed her thumb nail. "Yes. It seemed like a great idea but now I'm worried that he will get mad."

Bobby wasn't sure where her head was at. He pointed to one of the people that didn't have a face yet. "Who is this?"

Kate's face turned red and tears welled in her eyes.

Bobby took a guess. He held his arms out to hug her. "He isn't going to get mad over that. Do you need a photo to go off of?"

Kate nodded her head. "Yes please. I'll do one for Sam and one for Dean but I don't want to hurt them."

Bobby chuckled. "What you are doing is earning yourself all kinds of brownie points."

Kate made a face. "Are you sure?"

Bobby shrugged. "I don't see why that would upset any of them. I miss my Karen and when I see pictures or think of her I do get sad but I would not get angry at someone for bringing her up."

Kate made a mental note of that.

Bobby strategically found a photo of Mary and gave it to Kate. He sent her upstairs and promised to distract the boys.

Dean washed all of the dishes and went for his daily run.

Sam sat down with his computer to start on finding out what kind of language the symbols were. "Where is Kate? I thought she wanted to help with this."

Bobby didn't look up from his work. "I sent her upstairs to do a few things for me."

Sam shrugged and didn't ask any questions.

Kate worked on John's drawing first because he was due to leave the same day.

Dean returned and helped John replenish his ammo supply and pack for the hunt.

Kate stayed upstairs for a while in an attempt to finish her project. Her phone beeped and she checked the new message. Bobby had warned her that John was about ready to leave. She put the finishing touches on the drawing and skipped steps on her way down.

Dean was walking back inside to grab a box of bullets when Kate ran straight into him. "Whoa, slow down." He said and kept her from falling back.

Kate apologized and darted by him.

Bobby chuckled.

"What the hell was that?" Dean asked.

Bobby pulled the curtain back. "I'd give her a minute."

Dean looked outside. "What?"

Bobby didn't want to ruin the upcoming surprise for Dean. "She had something she needed to tell him and almost forgot before he left."

Dean wondered what she had gotten into. "Should I go out there?"

Bobby shook his head. "No, give her a few minutes."

John was leaned over the truck seat placing a bag on the floor when the opposite door opened. He looked up and expected to see Dean but saw a very nervous Kate instead.

"Hi." Kate said.

John straightened up. He walked around the front of the truck and so did Kate. "Hi?"

Kate fidgeted. "I have something to show you but I'm really afraid you'll be upset with me."

Dean couldn't see much of anything because of the truck. He could see John looking at Kate but couldn't tell what was going on.

John cocked an eyebrow. "Go ahead and show me."

Kate second guessed herself. She chewed her finger nails and closed her eyes to gather one last burst of confidence. She shakily pulled the folder she had put the drawing in from behind her back.

John was nearly afraid to open the thing. He held it in his hands and flipped the folder open.

Kate gritted her teeth and barely opened one eye.

John saw the drawing and wasn't sure why on earth she would be so upset. He realized that it was a 'snapshot' of them at Sam's graduation. His eyes flicked to the person standing on the other side of Sam and he felt like he had been hit by a truck.

Kate saw his face change. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done it." She said and tried to reach for the folder.

John pulled it back and looked at the sky in an effort to calm himself. "Kate, I'm not mad. This is..." He looked back at Mary's face. "How?"

Kate bounced on her toes. "Bobby let me borrow a photo. I'm sorry if I upset you."

John picked her up and hugged her so tightly that her back popped.

Kate grunted. "Do you like it?"

John wiped his face. "I really do. This means so much to me. I don't know how to convey that."

Kate grinned. "So the tears are happy tears?"

John gave her a wink. "Allergies."

Kate scrunched her nose.

John lifted her and sat her on the hood of the truck. He looked at Mary's face again and closed his eyes. He didn't know how to put his feelings into words. "Thank you."

Kate shifted. "I was worried that it would cause you to feel more pain."

John sighed. "I'd give anything to have her back. You gave that to me in a way."

Kate grinned sheepishly. "Um, I was going to do one for Sam and Dean too. Do you think it is a good idea?"

John nodded. "Yes it is."

"I don't want them to know about it yet. So, could you keep it a secret?" Kate asked.

John looked toward the house and saw the curtains move. "What do you plan on telling him?"

Kate shrugged. "That it is between us?"

John smirked. "Are you planning on sending him to an early grave?"

Kate grinned. "I can finish theirs tonight or tomorrow so I just need to buy some time. If it is a direct order from you he wont ask questions."

John patted her leg. "I'll talk to him. Thank you again for this." He said and held up the folder.

Kate gave him one more hug and ran inside.

Dean stopped her. "What was that about?"

"Uh, he wants to talk to you." Kate said and slipped by him.

Dean pinched the bridge of his nose. He took the bullets out to the truck. "Is everything okay with her?"

John had put the folder in his duffle. "Yes. She and I had a talk so don't ask her about it."

"A talk?" Dean asked.

John gave him a look. "Yes. She talked to me about something and doesn't need you hounding her."

Dean eyed John uneasily. "Did she compel you?"

John snorted. "No. Now it is a direct order, drop it."

Dean painfully dropped his line of questioning. "Do you need anything else?"

John shook his head and shut the truck door. "No, I'm about to head out."

Dean stepped back and walked inside as John left. He eyed Bobby. "You know anything about that?"

Bobby shrugged and didn't look up. "I need you and Sam to run to town." He held out a folded slip of paper with a list. "I want to get done with that panic room just incase she has another one of those episodes."

Kate walked into Bobby's office. "Can I go too?"

Bobby shook his head. "No, you haven't finished those chores I gave you."

Kate sighed and ran back up the stairs. She thought that Bobby was a good actor. She almost didn't catch the opportunity he had given her.

Dean got Sam and headed out.

Once they were gone, Bobby went to check on Kate.

Kate looked up from her notebook. "That was an out, right?"

Bobby chuckled. "Yes, you already did the stuff I asked you to do."

Kate smiled. "Thank you."

Bobby looked at his watch. "I'd say you have an hour or two before they come back."

Kate sharpened her pencil and worked. She had a half finished drawing of Dean with baby so she used that one to save her some time.

Sam looked at Dean. "What has you so tense?"

Dean scoffed. "I'm not tense."

"You are about to break the steering wheel in half." Sam said and nodded to the white knuckle grip that Dean was using.

Dean sighed. "Earlier, Kate went outside to speak to dad and they are being secretive. Dad gave me a direct order to not ask her what it was about."

Sam found that odd as well but wasn't as nosey. "Well if she told him at least someone knows and she isn't hiding anything."

Dean grunted. "She can't hide things from ME."

Sam laughed. "That is why it is bothering you?"

Dean stared at the road ahead. "Shut up."

Sam shook his head and smirked.

Kate was glad that their errand was taking longer than expected. She finished both drawings and gave them each their own envelope. She slipped downstairs and found Bobby. "What do you think?"

Bobby looked at each drawing. "This is great work."

Kate shifted from foot to foot. "I want to do one for you but I can't think of how."

Bobby gave her a small smile. "You don't have to do that."

Kate put her hands on her hips. "Well I'm going to."

Bobby chuckled. "Karen loved to cook. She was always cooking and I miss seeing her dancing around the kitchen as she made meals."

Kate could work with that. She heard the impala's engine and jumped.

"Are you afraid they will be upset?" Bobby asked.

Kate chewed her fingers. "Not mad upset. Maybe sad. I was scared that John would be mad."

"Was he?" Bobby asked.

Kate grinned. "No. He liked it and got a little emotional and hugged me and popped my back."

Bobby sat back in his chair. "Brownie points."

The car came to a stop and Kate took the folders and ran outside.

Dean couldn't quite read the look on her face.

Sam got out and went to unload some stuff but Kate stopped him.

"I have something for you." She shuffled the folders together nervously.

Dean grimaced slightly.

Kate rolled her eyes. "Fine, you don't get yours." She handed Sam his folder. "Wait." She turned to Dean. "Do you want it or not?"

Dean ruffled her hair. "Is it going to blow up in my face?"

Kate giggled. "No! It is good, I promise."

Dean held his hand out for the folder. "Okay okay I trust you."

Sam was curious as to what the folder held.

Kate tiptoed excitedly. "You can open them."

Sam immediately smiled with wet eyes. It was odd seeing his mom stand beside him in a photo that wasn't a baby picture. He held his arm out for her to hug him. "I love it. Thank you so much." He squeezed her and thanked her again. "This is going on my desk."

Kate loved that Sam could show emotion more easily than John.

Dean was quiet and stared at the drawing in the folder.

Kate looked at him and got worried. "Dean?"

Dean shook his head.

Kate flashed nervous eyes at Sam.

Sam gave her a slight wink.

Dean missed Mary as much as John did. He was robbed of so much and seeing a realistic drawing of himself standing beside his mom was too much. He wrapped his arms around Kate and hugged her firmly.

Kate melted into the hug until her lungs burned. "Air."

Dean let his arms loosen but didn't let go.

"Do you like it?" Kate asked, hopefully.

Dean sighed. "Yes. I have a rule about no chick flick moments and dammit kid you make it difficult."

Kate tilted her head up to look at him. "I gave one to John. That is what our talk was about."

Dean chuckled. "Here I thought that you did something and compelled him."

Kate stomped his foot. "Don't make me take the drawing back."

Dean held it above his head. "Over my dead body." He blew air through his nose. He hated the emotion thing.

Kate lost her balance a little and grazed the car with her shoe. "Bobby said this buys me brownie points."

Dean laughed. "I guess this does make it hard to get mad at you."

Kate grinned. "Good, because I accidentally scratched baby with my shoe."

Dean whipped his head around. "Where?" He ran his hand down the car's shiny exterior.

Kate giggled. "I didn't. My shoe barely touched it. I just like scaring you."

Dean handed his folder to Sam. "Do you?"

Kate squeaked and took off running for the house.

Dean grabbed her before she could get too far. He dug his fingers into her sides which made her giggle.

"Stop! You were about to cry and I know you don't like that. I distracted you." She said between giggles.

Dean stopped tickling her. "Oh so you lied to me." He said with a grin.

Kate wiggled away from him. "Brownie points!"

Dean picked her up and spun her around. "Fair. Thank you. I do like the drawing."

Kate was dizzy when he put her on the ground. She gave him a big smile. "If you are done, we should probably unload the car."

Sam gave Dean a smirk. "Yeah, Dean."

Dean threw up his hands. "Fine then."

Sam took the drawings inside and took an extra minute to study every stroke of graphite on his. Kate had a heart of gold.

Kate picked up a bag of some kind of gravel and tried to take it inside. She lost her footing going up the steps and nearly hit her head. She was stopped by what felt like someone pulling her t shirt. She sat the bag down and went to say thank you to Dean but he was standing by the car. She shrugged thinking that she must have caught her shirt on one of the nails sticking out of the railing.

Bobby helped the kids take everything down to the basement.

Kate looked at the blueprints for what he was building. "Is this to keep things in or out?"

Bobby nodded. "Both."

Kate knew that it was a possible option if something went wrong with her. "Hardcore time out room?"

Bobby laughed. "If it needs to be."

Kate scrunched her nose. "Better put a bed in there because I'm not a fan of sleeping on the floor."

Bobby chuckled but felt a twinge of pain. "We aren't going to just lock you in there."

Kate shrugged. "It is a safe place should one of my abilities be harmful or if I go on a compelling spree again."

"If you go on a compelling spree again I'm going to bust your ass again." Dean said lightly.

Kate rolled her eyes. "You have made your opinions about my ability to compel abundantly clear."

Dean ruffled her hair. "I'm just giving you a hard time."

"I can compel you to not do that." Kate said with a grin.

Dean gave her a stern look and then smiled. "Don't use all your points in one day."

Kate dodged a second hair ruffle. "Don't be grumpy."

Bobby shook his head and chuckled. This was the Kate that he knew and loved. He hoped that the answers that they would eventually learn wouldn't change her.

###############

A week later, Taylor got the book that Marie had sent to his house. He was eager to help put the puzzle together. The trail had been stagnant since Ada's spirit left.

Kate had tried to keep herself busy so that she wouldn't drive herself crazy looking for answers. She put in extra time with training and upped her run. She had been allowed to go back to the gym and found that the class helped with her anger management. She could work with other people her size with similar skills but also got to practice knowing when to hold back. She didn't know what the summer would bring her but was hopeful that it was better than the previous one.

Taylor got a ride from his older brother to Bobby's house. He dropped him off at the end of the driveway and sped away.

Bobby and Kate were sitting on the porch sorting through buckets of screws. "Did you walk here?" Bobby asked when he saw Taylor walking up the driveway.

"My brother dropped me off." Taylor answered. He saw that they were confused. "He dropped me off at the end of the driveway."

"Why not the house?" Kate asked.

Taylor sighed. "He didn't want to bring me and got into an argument with my mom about it." He was just thankful that someone brought him in the first place. He took his backpack off and sat it on the ground. He pulled out the book and showed it to Kate. "My grandma said that this is the stuff that got passed down from generation to generation."

Bobby stopped sorting ."Does it have anything from the 1700s?"

Taylor sat down and took over the sorting job. "It has a couple things but I think at some point it wasn't safe to talk about stuff so the person documenting things worded things to keep someone safe."

"I don't see anything about Ada." Kate said.

Taylor shrugged. "If she isn't Ewen's biological mom, maybe someone started the family information after he grew up."

"Ewen?" Kate asked.

"That is what the baby's name was. I don't know if that was the original last name or if that was his first name." He pointed to his notes.

Kate tilted her head. "That is a funny way to spell Owen."

Taylor laughed. "Gaelic spellings are different than ours."

"I guess when I'm reading Sam's book I understand what the words mean but am probably pronouncing them wrong." Kate said with a smile.

Kate sat on the porch swing with the book and looked through it. With the bracelet on, she couldn't be sure if anything was supposed to jump out at her. She scanned the pages and looked at Taylor's notes. "Bobby, can I look at this my way later?"

Bobby looked up from the bucket he was sorting. "We will see what we find out first."

Kate shrugged and looked back at the book.

"Where are Dean and Sam?" Taylor asked.

"Dean is off with Lacy and Sam is upstairs." Kate said.

Taylor finished the bucket he was sorting. "How did these get mixed up?"

Bobby chuckled. "Many years of just throwing them in an available box."

"Is your whole shop like this?"

Bobby looked at Taylor. "I'm not the best housekeeper. I never saw a reason to sort these types of things until I can't find what I need."

Taylor froze. "I didn't mean to offend you."

Bobby chuckled. "You didn't."

Taylor blushed slightly. "When I get stressed I like sorting things like this. My mom has OCD and I think I picked up some habits from her."

"Well you are fast at it. If you are bored and want to take a crack at the shop, you are more than welcome to." Bobby said.

"If it would help you out I'd be happy to."

Kate rolled her eyes. "Kiss your summer goodbye then."

Bobby looked at her. "You could help too."

"I don't like sorting things in my spare time." Kate said.

"I'll keep that in mind if the attitude sticks around." Bobby said.

Kate sat forward. "Sorry."

Bobby nodded and stood up. "Let me see that book."

Kate handed it to him. "It looks like some pages are missing."

Bobby tilted the book to see the jagged edges of what used to be a page. "I'll assume those were the important ones."

Kate tried not to get frustrated with the lack of answers. She didn't dare take the bracelet off because she knew frustration and anger were like lighter fluid for her abilities. She helped Taylor sort the rest of the stuff and take it to the shop. "You don't have to do stuff to make him like you."

Taylor sat a bucket down. "I'm not."

"You are just always so polite and go out of your way to do stuff. I don't want you to feel like you have to do that stuff to be able to come around." Kate added.

"I got the whole politeness thing drilled into my head from birth." Taylor said.

"But none of your family is polite to you."

Taylor moved one of the other buckets. "My dad went through some rough stuff. My mom works a lot but she is nice. My brothers are just brothers."

Kate sighed. "Just know that offering to sort this junk isn't necessary."

Taylor looked around the shop. "It keeps me from being home alone."

Kate frowned. "How often are you alone?"

Taylor shrugged. "My brother only comes home to get clean clothes. If my dad is gone then it is just my mom. She works long shifts and when she gets home she usually goes to bed."

That made Kate sad. "I didn't realize it was that bad. Don't you get bored?"

Taylor dug his hand into a new bucket and sorted the items in his hand. "I do. I try to keep myself busy."

"I don't do well with bored lately. When my dad was still alive and hunting he would leave me in motel rooms but I'd just read or draw. Now it seems like every time my mind isn't busy, I wind up messing up." Kate said.

"You seem to be handling it now." Taylor countered.

Kate sighed again. "I want to take the stupid bracelet off and look at that book. Things are so much faster that way."

Taylor turned toward her. "Bobby said you could try it after we looked at it."

Kate looked at the simple charm on her wrist. "Since you have your ability, it could be safer for me to use mine. You would know if things got out of hand."

Taylor grabbed Kate's hand. "Are you actually considering doing that?"

Kate shook her head. "No, it is just a thought."

"Just so it stays a thought, remember that I'm the other side of that equation. I really don't want to be put into a position that your family is mad at me." Taylor said softly.

Kate tilted her head. "They wouldn't get mad at you, they'd get mad at me."

Taylor smiled. "I don't want to find out."

Kate gave him a smile as well. "Fear not, I am not going to take the bracelet off without explicit approval from the guardians." She meant it. She didn't want to hurt anyone as she had last time. "Are you scared?.. with all this family stuff?"

Taylor shrugged. "I don't think I am scared. I just want to know why stuff is happening."

Kate walked with him toward Bobby's house. "Some people in my family had mild abilities until they got a little older and all at once their full abilities came in. What happened when I was a baby may have done something to make mine react differently than others had. What if I wind up evil?"

Taylor stopped at the bottom of the steps. "If you are worried about being evil, that means you aren't evil."

"I guess. I am just worried. I don't like not knowing things about myself. The past few years have been non stop twists and I'm sorry I drug you into it." Kate said.

"You didn't drag me into it. Remember, I'm the one who approached you first." Taylor said with a smile.

The wind blew Kate's hair into her face. She heard Taylor say something under his breath. "What was that?"

Taylor looked at her. "I didn't say anything."

Kate shrugged. "I thought you did. There is lemonade inside if you want some."

Taylor held the door open for her.

Kate looked out at the salvage yard and furrowed her brows. If she wasn't wearing her bracelet she'd be sure that someone was trying to talk to her. She looked at her wrist and then went inside. She was just stressed. Nothing could get passed the warding and into Bobby's house without being summoned like Missouri had done with Ada. She just needed a cool glass of lemonade and some time out of the sun.
