Ellen nearly knocked the door off the hinges. She locked eyes with Dean and he was temporarily afraid for his own well being. Ellen saw Kate and adjusted what she thought was going on.

Kate figured she would be least likely to be on Ellen's hit list and slid off the bed. "Can I test you? Just to be safe?"

Ellen took the holy water and drank it. She let Kate touch a silver knife to her hand.

"Thank you." Kate said and sat stuff on the table. She saw the trip wire thinning and stepped back. If she acted cute and cuddly, she wouldn't be in Ellen's sights.

Dean stood up to introduce himself but Ellen turned to Jo. "What the hell, Joanna Beth?"

Jo stammered. "Momma, just calm down."

Dean closed his eyes. If he knew one thing about women it was that you should never tell them to calm down.

Ellen's voice raised as she started in on Jo.

Kate covered her ears and wailed as she cried into Dean's chest.

Dean wrapped his arms around her. She had faced down demons and had never acted like that. He felt small fingers tapping his chest and realized she was playing Ellen like a fiddle. "She is still pretty shaken up."

Ellen's voice softened. "Is she okay?"

"Yeah she will be." Dean said.

Kate turned her face and looked at Ellen.

"I'll save the yelling for the trip home. I'd like to know what is going on." Ellen said.

Jo replaced the salt line. "We could talk about this at home."

Ellen eyed her. "No, I want to know why my sixteen year old daughter skipped town and is here, in a motel room with a... How old are you, son?"

Dean cleared his throat. "22, Ma'am."

"A 22 year old!" Ellen said and then lowered her voice. "So somebody start talking."

"They know Bobby." Jo said.

Ellen turned back toward Dean. "So you had her team up with you on a hunt?"

Dean started to talk but Jo interrupted. "No. I heard about the case one night at the Road house and came up here on my own."

Ellen bit back her urge to strangle her.

"You wont let me hunt. I'm old enough now. It was a simple case. I did my research." Jo said.

Dean wondered if Jo knew that she wasn't helping her case.

Kate spoke up. "When Dean-"

"Dean? Are you John's boy?" Ellen asked.

Dean nodded. "Yes, ma'am."

"I'm sorry." Ellen bit.

Dean took a deep breath. John must have pissed her off at some point.

Kate gave her puppy dog eyes. "I was looking through photos at Bobby's one day and he showed me your picture. I lost my dad too. I remembered the picture because Jo was my age in the photo. When Dean went inside, Jo showed up and I recognized her. I asked her not to go inside."

Ellen looked to Jo for confirmation.

"She did stop me." Jo said.

"We talked about it and figured out there were more demons than we thought." Kate added. "We came up with a better plan."

"You should have sent her packing." Ellen said.

Dean held his hands up. "I did try."

Jo glared at him. "Plans changed."

Kate wasn't sure if she should admit what happened in the building.

"What was this better plan?" Ellen asked.

Dean shook his head at Kate. "I set up a trap in an empty building and had them come to me. I had both of the girls hid away. I would never put Jo or Kate in danger on purpose."

Ellen was quiet for a minute. "What isn't being said?"

Dean looked at Jo to handle that portion.

Jo shook her head.

Ellen sat down at the table. "I've got all night."

Kate found it slightly amusing that Dean acted afraid of Ellen.

Dean pressed Kate's head against his chest.

Kate wondered if she was being used as a shield.

"Things got complicated. I don't know exactly what happened but three came at once. They got the jump on me. Jo tried to defend me and got jumped too." Dean said.

Ellen looked at Jo. "You don't look too bad off."

Jo looked at Kate. "I got pinned against a wall. I have a small knot on the back of my head."

Ellen was still fighting back her need to yell. She was angry at Jo for leaving and couldn't believe she had done something so stupid. "So how are you here, now?"

Dean didn't know Ellen well enough to spill Kate's secrets.

Kate stared at Ellen for a moment. She wiggled off of Dean's lap and stepped closer to her. "I can explain but it sounds weird and I'm afraid you'll think I'm bad."

Ellen saw the pain in Kate's eyes. "I have no issues with you. It is Jo and maybe Dean that I'm angry at."

Dean furrowed his brows. He wanted to ask why she had issues with him.

Kate frowned. She was still playing to Ellen's motherly side. "My mom was killed by a demon when I was a baby. My dad raised me but he died too. He was a hunter and taught me some stuff. Dean's family adopted me after my dad died. I've been training a lot incase there is a time I have to protect myself. So when Dean and Jo were pinned, I took a recorder with an exorcism and distracted one of the demons. When he was looking for the recorder, I ran outside and used holy water to contaminate the fire system. When I got caught I set the one guy's shirt on fire and that caused holy water to come from the sprinklers. Then we just had to act quick and exorcise them."

Ellen searched Kate's face. "How did you have enough Holy water for that?"

Kate swallowed. Ellen was harder to lie to than anyone she had met. "This is the part that may make you think I'm bad or something."

Ellen shot Dean a look. "Go ahead."

"I have abilities. We are still figuring out why but my blood burns demons." She looked at Ellen for a sign. "I used my blood for the water."

Ellen closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "How did you do that?"

Kate looked back at Dean and grimaced. "I cut my arm open. I guess my blood is more concentrated or something. It worked."

Ellen looked at Kate's arms. "I don't see any cuts."

Kate wondered why Ellen owned a bar when she could so easily be a interrogator. "It is probably easier to show you than try to explain." She took her knife out and cut her hand.

Ellen grabbed the knife. "What the-" She watched the skin close. "What."

"I heal." Kate said.

"What are you?" Ellen asked but there was no malice in her voice.

"A kid. I didn't have this ability until recently." Kate said.

Ellen sat back. "So you two went into this 'hunt' so blindly that a child had to cut her arm open in order to save you?"

Dean scoffed. "I had it under control until she showed up."

Jo clinched her fist. "Had you let me go into the damn building I could have handled it."

"Enough!" Ellen said. "Jo, get your stuff."

Jo started to protest but met eyes with her mother.

Dean didn't know if he should speak.

Ellen approached him. "I hope you aren't like your daddy. I assume you spend a lot of time with Bobby. For your sake I hope he rubs off on you. Jo has her head in the clouds. Thank you for not letting her go in the building."

Dean stammered. "Uh, Yes ma'am."

Ellen looked at Kate. "And thank you for saving her ass."

Kate grinned. "No problem."

Jo grabbed her stuff and stomped out to the car.

Kate stopped Ellen at the door. She whispered something in her ear and gave her a quick hug.

When the door shut, Dean let out a breath. "Well, that went well."

Kate replaced the salt line again. "It could have gone worse."

"Did the yelling really bother you or was all of that an act?" Dean asked.

Kate blushed. "I didn't want an argument. I know she was mad but Jo wouldn't hear anything if she yelled it. The crying was fake."

Dean held his arms out. "You may have saved my ass a second time."

Kate rubbed her face against his shirt. "She totally would have shot you had I not been here."

Dean didn't disagree. "Imagine if I had brought Sam." Dean grimaced. It wasn't his intention to bring Jo back to the motel room but it was a choice based on safety. Ellen may not have listened to reason if it had been him and Sam.

Kate giggled. "So you aren't mad at me?"

Dean shook his head. "No. I'd love to tell you that you should have stayed hidden but they would have found you." He rubbed her arm. "You can't go around cutting yourself like that. We don't know how much you will heal."

"It was the only thing I could think of. I didn't want to absorb them again." Kate said. "When I saw Jo outside, I know I got out of the car when I wasn't supposed to but I was afraid that she would go in and be in danger."

Dean patted her leg. "It was a good choice. I think you are beginning to see the difference."

"You have a cut above your eye." She said and touched his face.

Dean grabbed her hand. "Do not do the pain thing."

Kate frowned.

"I am fine with a few aches. You have been having nose bleeds. Save it." He said.

Kate sighed. "Fine."

Dean stood her up. "You need a bath."

Kate scrunched her nose.

"That anti-demon shower we got is a bit more gross now that I know the secret ingredient." He said.

Kate rolled her eyes. "Alright. You never know, it could give you powers."

Dean shrugged. "I'd rather shower."

Kate smiled and grabbed her stuff. "You have to brush the tangles out of my hair though."

Dean laid back on the bed. "You can't complain if I do." He called Bobby to update him.

"Ellen Harvelle?" Bobby asked.

"Yep. Is she scary or was I just nervous about being caught in a room with her daughter?" Dean asked.

Bobby laughed. "Ellen doesn't take shit from anyone. I wouldn't cross her."

"I wasn't trying to. Jo didn't give me a whole lot of choices. Hey, don't you dare laugh about this." Dean said.

Bobby would give Ellen a call later but was enjoying the story now that he knew they were all safe. "So Kate sliced her arm open?" He didn't enjoy that part.

Dean sighed. "She did. She must have been moving fast too. She got from one side of the building and out a door without them knowing which way she went."

Bobby had seen Kate's stealth in action. "She is just stacking up things to use against you."

Dean grinned. "I blamed her for something she didn't do and then she turns around and does this. Makes it real hard to say anything to her."

"When she gets done with her shower you should call your dad. Don't ask him about Ellen." Bobby said.

Dean furrowed his brows. "Why?"

"Because I told you not to." Bobby snipped.

Dean sighed. "Alright."

Kate closed her eyes and let the warm water wash the day away. She had been so scared when she saw Dean get thrown. She was struggling to focus in her panic but a coolness washed over her. Her heart rate slowed and she knew what she needed to do. If her abilities were that strong, she didn't see a reason for Dean to shelter her. He hadn't meant for her to be near the demons but she thought that she could be immune to demon attacks. She could protect Dean.

Dean stretched and looked out the window. He felt the exhaustion creeping up his shoulders. He had quickly lost control of the situation and the possible outcomes were in the front of his mind. Did Kate really get lucky or was there something else? Had her Grigori stepped in?

Kate changed and brought her hairbrush to Dean. "Here."

"You can brush your own hair." Dean said with a smirk.

Kate sat down and leaned her head back. "I spent all my energy saving your bacon."

Dean laughed. "Okay." He took his time brushing through the ringlets. "Lacy said something about spray for your hair. Maybe that would make it easier to brush."

Kate shrugged. "I don't know what it was."

"I'll ask. You live in a house full of guys. She is a good person to talk to about girl stuff." Dean said.

Kate tilted her head back and looked at him. "I'm not a girly girl."

Dean pushed her head back forward. "No but it is okay if you want girly things. Not getting your hair ripped out every time you brush it is okay to want."

Kate sighed. "Stuff like that is expensive."

Dean frowned. "Your job is to be a kid. Let the adults worry about money."

Kate didn't respond.

Dean worried about how much Kate worried about things. "We could head back today. If we leave soon we will be back for bed time."

Kate smiled. "Okay."

Dean sat the brush down. "I need to call dad."

Kate chewed her thumb. "Is he going to be mad?"

Dean pulled his phone out. "No. Well, he may be mad at me."

Kate rested her head on the table.

Dean dialed John's number. "Hey, we took care of the demons but things got pretty hairy." Dean told John about what happened.

"Her blood burns demons?" John asked.

Dean realized he hadn't mentioned it. "I thought Bobby told you about it."

"No. Let me talk to her." John said.

Kate took the phone. She sheepishly explained how they figured it out and how she used it on the demons in the building.

"That was quick thinking." John said.

Kate got a thumbs up from Dean. "I didn't know it would work. I was scared. If it worked with that it may work for so many other things."

John stopped her. "We can look into that stuff but not this way. Do not injure yourself again."

Kate wanted to argue. Sure she was a kid but she wasn't a normal kid. "If it worked mixed with water, imagine what it could do at full strength. It could even work on other creatures."

"Katelyn." John warned. "Slow down. If you try it again and it doesn't work, you are setting yourself up in a bad situation. There is a right way to go about things and we are not weaponizing your blood. I don't care if you heal. You do not need to be cutting into yourself."

Kate frowned. "Okay."

Dean finished the conversation and gave Kate a sympathetic smile. "I know you want to take over the world but you are going to have to wait."

Kate scrunched her nose. "Rome wasn't built in a day because old people got in the way."

Dean chuckled. "I will tell him you said that."

Kate put her hands on her hips. "He knows."

Dean ruffled her hair. "I'll check out. Can you finish packing this stuff up?"

Kate nodded.

Dean left the room and walked down to the lobby. He was tired but it was mid day. He didn't want to stick around and pay for another night. Sam was old enough to drive which had helped but he had at least another 5 years on Kate before she was useful with that. He didn't plan on letting her drive anyway. He barely let Sam drive.

The manager looked Dean over. "Did you get into a fight?"

Dean touched his head. He gave the woman a smirk. "Just between us, I was hiking with my sister and tripped. Getting in a fight sounds better."

The woman smiled at him and took the room keys back.

Kate packed the duffels and stacked them by the door. She didn't really have to think about it anymore. She checked under the beds and table to make sure nothing was left. She swept up the salt and put it back in a container.

Dean knocked on the door.

Kate opened it. "I'm ready."

Dean looked down. "Where is the salt?"

Kate pointed to the bag. "I put it back in the box. One day a maid is going to ask why there is salt over the floor. It is better to reuse it."

Dean chuckled. "That probably should have been an obvious solution." He picked up the duffels and held the door for Kate.

Kate got in the passenger seat of the impala and rested her head against the window.

"Are you okay?" Dean asked.

Kate nodded. "Yes. Just a little sleepy."

"You pushed yourself hard. Rest." Dean said.

Kate snapped her head up. "I moved something."

Dean shut his door. "What do you mean?"

"I moved the thing that fell off the wall." Kate said.

Dean licked his lips. "That is cool. Just no more practicing that for a little while."

Kate leaned her head back to the window. "Okay."

Dean patted her and turned the car on. "Get some sleep."

Kate didn't argue. She closed her eyes and let the steady hum of baby's engine lull her to sleep.

Sam had given Taylor a short list of things he could do. He learned that Taylor needed to keep his hands busy or he got antsy. Sam could sit and read but Taylor needed to feel helpful.

Taylor pulled a box down from the attic.

Sam reached over his head and he climbed down. "Don't pull it over on yourself."

Taylor wiped sweat from his face. "Thanks." He went through the box and sorted it into a keep or throw away pile. He stacked the empty box with the others and went back for more.

Sam watched him work as he researched something for Bobby. "It doesn't need to be done today."

Taylor stuck his head down from the attic opening. "I'm not doing anything else anyway."

Bobby told the boys about what happened with the hunt and told Taylor to take a break.

"So that answers the blood/demon question." Sam said.

Bobby shrugged. "I'm just glad they got out of there."

"Who is Jo?" Taylor asked.

Bobby rubbed his face. "Hunter's kid. She is a teenager and was trying to hunt by herself."

Sam chuckled.

"Ellen is a good woman but she has a temper. Your brother is lucky that Kate was there." Bobby said.

Sam knew that Dean had a reputation with moving from one girl to the next but Dean had morals. "Would she have really thought he was doing something?"

Bobby took a drink of his water. "She didn't know Dean."

Taylor wished he had seen Kate in action. He knew about the supernatural but hadn't gotten to see first hand how any of it worked. He had his run ins with whatever was messing with them but demons were another story. "Do you guys mainly hunt demons?"

Bobby thought about it. "I'd say we deal with demons a lot. Other stuff too but some hunters have a specialty. There's a man named Elkins that is the one you call if you need help with a nest of vamps."

"I guess you guys focus on demons because they focus on you." Taylor said.

Bobby nodded slowly. "They do seem to."

"Do demons just come up here to mess with people? I know some make deals but what do the others do?" Taylor asked.

"I don't know. They are demons. That is like asking a dog why it barks. That is just what they do." Bobby said.

Sam wanted to know why a demon had dropped blood in his mouth. Why had the demon singled him out and why had it let him live. It was almost as if the yellow eyed demon wanted him to live. He helped him in the hospital and had never attacked him, personally. Things would make more sense if he wanted Sam dead too. Sam felt like a part of him was tainted. Dean was the perfect soldier and son. Sam tried but felt that a piece of him just didn't fit.

Kate felt water dripping down her face. She assumed it was sweat and wiped it away. She scrunched her nose and wiped her face with her arm. She opened her eyes and saw a black liquid covering her arm. She flipped the visor down and saw the black dripping from her eyes. She turned to Dean but he wasn't there. She tried to wake herself up but couldn't. She calmed her breath and focused on the vision. Maybe the black tears had something to do with the demons. She hadn't absorbed them but visions were symbolic at times. She used her shirt to wipe the tears away and stood up. She was no longer in the impala. She looked around her and saw blackened walls around her. She stepped closer to one and saw writing. Names. She traced her fingers down the walls and felt her heart beat quicken. She saw John, Dean, Sam and Bobby's names written midway down the wall. She heard a familiar sound and realized where she was. She felt sick to her stomach. Why were their names on a wall in hell. They hadn't made any deals. She felt herself becoming angry. She was fed up with hell. She heard movement and looked behind her. The man with yellow eyes was watching her. "What do you want?"

"No, what do you want?" The demon asked.

Kate glared at him. "I don't make deals."

Azazel smiled. "You have grown so much. You are so powerful now."

Kate looked down at her hands. "Leave me alone."

"I can't. I have big plans for you and I want to know what you have done to yourself." He said.

Kate pushed her fear down. "You don't know?"

"I'm intrigued."

Kate rolled her eyes. "With this bit of leverage, why would I give it up?"

Azazel laughed darkly. "You are a child."

Kate stepped closer to him. "A child that you can't touch.. can you?"

Azazel's eyes flashed.

Kate stepped a bit closer. "You could before but not now." She tried to pull out of the vision but was still stuck. She looked at the demon. "You can't do a thing and that bothers you." She felt his hand smack her face and whimpered. She could taste copper in her mouth and smiled. "You messed up."

Azazel went to grab her neck. "Disrespect doesn't look good on you."

Kate stepped into his grasp. "Go to hell."

Azazel picked her up by her neck.

Kate spit in his face and hit the ground when he grabbed his face. Kate took off running and found a door. She spit into her hand and drew an X on the outside of the door. She heard banging on the door and then someone calling her name.

"Kate, hey wake up." Dean said.

Kate opened her eyes. She put her hand to her mouth but her lip wasn't bleeding.

"You were mumbling in your sleep. You sounded scared." Dean said.

Kate checked her eyes. "Bad dream."

"Your kind of bad dream?" Dean asked.

Kate told him about Azazel.

Dean tapped the breaks. "You have got to stop challenging them like that. He could have snapped your neck, vision or not."

"It worked." Kate said.

Dean groaned. He didn't want her getting too confident. "Just because he held back in the vision doesn't mean he or any other demon will hold back here."

Kate looked out the window. "They can't hurt me."

Dean tapped her leg. "You said he hit you and choked you."

"Yeah but that isn't that bad." Kate said.

Dean pulled the car over. "Are you losing sight of how serious this is?"

Kate squeaked. "No."

"You do have powers. You did save me and Jo and you did escape this vision but that wont always happen. Baiting demons and getting cocky will get you killed." He said.

Kate scooted toward the door. "Okay."

Dean shook his head. "No, not just okay. Jo was cocky and almost ran right into that building. You are stronger but one thing could go wrong and then that is it. It is just like you cutting yourself. You just assume that you will heal. We don't know that and you are running that risk every time you do it."

Kate hung her head. "What is the point in having abilities if I can't use them."

"The point is to stay alive." Dean said.

"When you try to be a hero I'm going to lecture you too." Kate said.

Dean gave her a nudge and got back on the road.

Taylor was sitting on the tire swing when his phone rang. "Hi, nana." He stopped the swing and listened. "Where did you find it?" He finished the phone call and ran inside.

Bobby looked up from his desk. "Did you need something."

Taylor cleared his throat. "My nana found some information about our family. It is a whole box of stuff that her grandmother had gathered. It had gotten lost when she died and has been with my... someone else in the family for years."

"Is she going to send it up here?" Bobby asked.

Taylor turned slightly red. "She wants me to get it from her house since it is so much. She doesn't want to send family papers in the mail. I can take a bus. I can leave tomorrow morning and be back in the evening."

Bobby raised an eyebrow. "You are too young to take a bus that far."

"I have before." Taylor said.

Bobby looked at his watch. "Find Sam for me."

Taylor found Sam on his bed looking through a folder. "Bobby wants you."

Sam followed him back down. "What's up?"

"Taylor's grandmother found some information that may be helpful. It sounds to be quite a bit of information. Would you want to drive Taylor over there?" Bobby asked.

Taylor butted in. "It is a two hour drive. That is four hours in the car. There is no need for that."

Bobby shook his head. "Sam?"

Sam shrugged. "We could make it there and back before too late."

Taylor started to say it was okay but stopped when Bobby looked at him.

"Kate and Dean will be getting back here around the same time. I have some phone calls to make and am going to run into town to do a few things." Bobby said.

Taylor smiled. "Thank you. You really don't have to do this."

Sam grabbed the keys to the spare car. "I know. Some new info will be good though." He grabbed a small bag of stuff and threw it in the car.

Taylor quickly grabbed his own stuff and ran to the car. He jumped in the passenger seat and held his breath for a moment.

Sam laughed. "Did you forget?"

Taylor turned red. "Yep."

Sam shook his head. "It will go away."

Taylor shifted and leaned back against the seat. "Thanks for driving me."

Sam nodded. "No problem."

Taylor called his grandmother. "Hey, Nana. Sam is going to drive me to your house and we should be there in about two hours. Yes. Thank you. You are the best."

"What did she say?" Sam asked.

"She said she would start cooking." Taylor said with a grin.

"Are most grandmothers like that?" Sam asked.

Taylor shrugged. "Mine is. If you try to tell her you aren't hungry she is going to feed you anyway."

Sam smiled. "She sounds like a nice person."

"She is. She was a good mom too and feels bad about my mom." Taylor said.

"Does she know about us?" Sam asked.

Taylor gave him an apologetic look. "Yes. She asks a lot of questions. I didn't tell her what you guys do but she wanted to know who I was staying with."

Sam chuckled. "That is okay. What is your plan in the long term? Is there anything you want to do when you're older?"

Taylor hadn't given it much thought. "My dad wanted me to join the army when I turn 18. One of my brothers did but I never really thought about it. With all of this going on, I think that there are wars to fight here. I'm afraid if I join, I'll mess up and someone will notice."

"You can get a normal job too. You can go to college or trade school." Sam replied.

"What are you going to college for?

"Law. I think. I have time to figure that out. I just don't want to hunt for the rest of my life." Sam said.

Taylor looked out the window. "I don't know. If I was given abilities, I think I should use them." He leaned his head back and watched the clouds through the top of the windshield. His grades were good and his extra curricular activities looked good. He could go to college on a baseball scholarship. He could also be a great hunter. He could heal himself. If he and Kate could get a handle on their abilities, they could make an unstoppable team. Kate took on three demons by herself. Imagine what they could do together. He wondered just how much the healing power worked. He noticed that he hadn't healed from the previous day but had from his dad. If he got bit by a werewolf, would he turn or would his body heal? He also wondered if his blood worked against demons too. He felt like a freak but he also felt like he had a purpose.
