Author's note. Ponygirl. I'm glad you saw the note. Part of why I added in those details was to bring light to the difference between discipline and abuse. To me it is like a fight scene. It tips over a domino. I wish you the best in your healing and totally feel free to send a message.

Bobby leaned back in his chair and dialed the number to the Roadhouse. He wanted to check on Jo and make sure everyone was on the same page.
Ellen picked up the phone and answered it. "It has been a while since I've seen this number."
Bobby grumbled. "The phone works both ways. How is Jo?"
Ellen flung the bar towel over her shoulder. "We just got back not too long ago. Maybe this will get it through her head that she isn't ready."
"The kids told me about what happened." Bobby said.
Ellen poured herself a drink. "I know Dean is John's boy but the little one, where did she come from?"
Bobby cleared his throat. "A couple years back a hunter named Brian O'Connor called me because he was in a situation. That is her dad. He died last year."
"She said that Dean's family adopted her. Why on earth would John do something like that?" Ellen asked. She was not a fan of the oldest Winchester.
"The boys are attached to her and she is attached to them. I could have signed the paperwork but people know me here. So she took their last name. She stays with me or the boys though." Bobby answered.
"What can you tell me about Dean?" Ellen asked.
Bobby laughed. "I can tell you that he was not on board with Jo showing up. You scared the daylights out of him."
Ellen smiled. "I didn't see Kate when I first walked in."
"They told me. Kate is something else isn't she?"
Ellen motioned for Ash to watch the bar and walked outside. "What is she?"
"A psychic with a few boosters."
"She saved Jo and seems like a nice kid but she needs to be careful who she tells. I know a few hunters who see things as black and white." Ellen said, quietly.
"I know. I'll talk to her about that. This isn't the time to ask but we need a back up plan for the back up plan. If she needs a safe house in an emergency, can she stay with you?" Bobby said.
Ellen chuckled. "She is welcome any time."
"We don't know for sure what is going on but I'll add you to the list. When Sam and Dean were little, I had no problem leaving them here for a few days." Bobby said.
Ellen cracked a smile. "But she is a little girl and has you wrapped around her finger."
Bobby blushed. "That and she is just about like Jo but with abilities."
Ellen grimaced. "Speaking of Jo, I should probably go talk to her."
Bobby chuckled. "Don't be too hard on her."
Ellen grumbled and hung up the phone.

Sam followed Taylor's directions. He hit a dirt rode with fields and trees around them. "Are you sure someone lives out here?'
Taylor grinned. "Yeah, I told you it is in the middle of nowhere."
Sam turned into a path that he wasn't sure was a rode. He drove slowly and finally saw a house up ahead. There were horses grazing in a fenced in pasture and at least two dogs. The house was old but charming.
Taylor got out of the car and bent to pet the swarm of dogs.
Sam did the same and quickly won favor with the worst guard dogs that he head ever seen.
The screen door opened and Taylor made eye contact with his grandmother.
She smiled brightly and walked down the steps. She held her arms out and wrapped him in a hug. She kissed his cheek. "Boy if you don't stop growing I'm going to put books on your head."
Taylor smiled. "Sorry, nana. You are the shortest one in the family again."
Marie turned and looked at Sam. She let go of Taylor and held out her arms again.
Sam awkwardly stood in place.
Taylor put a hand on his back and shoved him. "She's a hugger."
Marie hugged Sam and patted his arm. "Someone needed to put books on your head too."
Sam actually didn't mind the hug. Marie seemed nice.
She ushered them inside. "There's food in the kitchen. Make yourself at home."
Sam followed Taylor into the house. His mouth started watering at the scent of food. The house was well kept and looked like it was plucked from a farm house catalog. Everything was bright and open.
Taylor grabbed two plates. "Here."
"Oh. No it is okay." Sam said.
Taylor held the plated hand out and shook it. "If you don't eat, she will keep on until you cave."
Sam smiled. "Does she just like cooking?"
Taylor nodded "This is how she shows love. She retired a few years back but cooks for any reason she can find. She thinks I'm too skinny." He looked Sam up and down. "You are lanky so she will have opinions about that."
Sam scoffed. "I am not lanky."
Taylor shrugged and went to the stove. He pulled the lid off a pot and inhaled the steam. "This is my favorite."
Sam looked over his shoulder. It was some type of soup.
"Chicken and dumplings but nana makes it special. These aren't the kind you get in the store." Taylor boasted.
Sam shrugged and let Taylor load his plate with dumplings, vegetables and a roll. He had never seen such a spread. They didn't even have that kind of stuff on Christmas.
Taylor motioned for him to sit down at the table. He stabbed a dumpling with a fork and chewed it happily.
Sam noticed the difference in Taylor's temperament. He was relaxed and truly happy. He forked a squishy dumpling and put it in his mouth. He closed his eyes and felt his face tingle. "What are these?"
Marie appeared in the kitchen. "Biscuit dough but that's all I'll tell ya."
Sam swallowed another mouthful. "This is really good."
Marie ran her hand over Taylor's head and let it settle on his shoulder. "I'm glad you think so."
Taylor shuffled his feet as he ate. He had missed just how good her cooking was. He wasn't picky but nothing was better than Marie's meals.
Sam was a tad smug that it wasn't Dean who had brought Taylor. Sam stayed away from greasy food and comfort food. However, this food was not greasy at all. It felt light but comforting at the same time.
"Taylor tells me that he has been staying over at your house." Marie said.
Sam nodded. "It isn't my house. He is a family friend. I guess he is kind of like an uncle. We stay there a lot."
"Bobby sounds like a wonderful person. I have just heard so much about you all and I'm pleased." Marie said.
Taylor rubbed the side of his head against her hand. "Beats staying at my own house."
"Since he is over there so much, I'll send some stuff back with you. Taylor eats more than he looks like he should." Marie said.
Sam shook his head. "It is okay. My brother is like that and we barely notice Taylor has made a dent."
Marie clicked her tongue. "Tsk Tsk. I know this boy. Your family has welcomed him with open arms. The least I can do is send him back with some goodies."
Sam relented. "Thank you."
"I'll go get that box while you boys finish up with dinner." She left the room and rustled around in another room. She slid the box into the hallway. "This sucker is pretty heavy."
Sam got up and looked at the box. "That is way bigger than I expected."
Marie poked his arm. "I think you will be able to lift it."
Sam blushed but realized she was being light hearted.
She touched his arm. "Not now. You go finish your food."
Sam smiled and sat back down.
Taylor leaned back in his chair and rested his eyes. He felt stuffed.
Marie was busy stacking things in several other boxes. She hoped that Bobby had an extra fridge. "Do you boys want dessert?"
Taylor groaned.
Marie chuckled. "I'll send some to go then."
Sam took his last bite of food and savored it. Had he known that she was this nice, he would have offered to bring Taylor more often.
Taylor took the dishes and washed them. He found Marie and hugged her. "Thanks, nana."
Sam thanked her too. "What is all of this?"
Marie looked at the boxes. "I told you I'd send stuff home with you."
Sam wondered if he had room in the car. "This is too much. You really don't have to do this."
Marie wouldn't hear it. "Taylor is my only grandbaby that calls or visits. I'm going to send him away what the others are missing out on."
Taylor knelt on the ground and opened the box with family documents. "What all is in here?"
"Oh photographs, papers. There are some trinkets but I just saw some of it and figured you'd enjoy going through it." Marie answered.
Taylor looked through the things on the top. He was excited to get it back to Bobby's.
Sam peered into one of the food boxes. "What is in the jars?"
Marie pulled one out. "These right here are cobbler and pie."
"Pie?" Sam asked with furrowed eyebrows.
Taylor perked up. "Yeah you cook it in the jars and can take it with you and it not get squished. Plus when you put ice cream on top, it doesn't fall off the sides."
Sam held one of the jars. "Huh, is this a thing?"
Marie chuckled. "Here it is. Everything in that is made from scratch too."
Sam smirked. "Dean is going to lose it."
"When you guys run out you'll just have to visit to get more." Marie said with a twinkle in her eye.
Taylor froze when his hand touched one of the papers. He stared at the writing.
Sam saw it and cleared his throat. "Maybe I should put stuff in the car."
Taylor looked up at him and blinked rapidly. "Yeah, good idea."
Sam took the box and carried it outside. He sat it in the trunk and brushed his hands off. He turned back to the house and stopped to take in the surroundings. The horses were flicking flies away with their tails and munching on grass. They had some chickens and Sam could hear the bleat of a goat. Along the front of the house grew blue/purple flowers. They were a nice accent to the white house. He went to walk back up on the porch and stopped. He was no horticulturist but he recognized the blooms and it was odd, considering the amount of dogs outside. He went back inside. "What kind of flowers are out there?"
Marie stopped packing boxes. "Aconite."
That confirmed Sam's suspicion. "It doesn't bother your dogs?"
"They don't go near the stuff." She answered a bit tightly.
Sam dropped it. He wondered if Marie knew what it was used for. He'd ask Taylor about it when they got in the car.
"Alright, last box is ready to go." Marie said.
Sam worked on getting the boxes to the car. She was sending enough food for a small army but genuinely wanted to.
Marie checked the time. "Do you boys need to head back now or do you have a little bit?"
Sam shrugged. "As long as we are back before too late."
Taylor grinned. "We can stay for an hour maybe."
Marie pulled his head to her and kissed his cheek again. "Wonderful."
They walked along the fence and picked some carrots from the garden to feed the horses.
Sam thought that Marie acted less cheerful than she had when they first got there.
Taylor zipped around and visited all the animals. "Next time can Kate come? I think she would like some of these guys."
Sam nodded. He and Marie periodically traded looks but didn't make eye contact.
Taylor wanted to show Sam the barn where he spent his early childhood. "There is a loft and you can see everything from there."
Sam watched Taylor scurry up the ladder and put his foot on the bottom wrung. He felt like he wasn't seeing something that he should be seeing. The hair on the back of his neck was standing on end. He climbed up after Taylor and looked around. "Hey." He whispered. "Something feels off."
"What do you mean?" Taylor asked.
"Why does she have wolfsbane surrounding the house?" Sam asked.
Taylor shrugged. "She always has."
"Does she know about hunting?" Sam pushed.
Taylor sat down on a hay bail. "Not that I know of."
Sam couldn't shake the odd feeling. When they went back down the ladder, Sam's head rocked back to see the roof of the barn. He squinted his eyes. Was that a devil's trap.
Taylor hopped down and picked straw from his clothes.
Marie noticed what Sam was doing and swallowed.
Sam turned his head and made eye contact with her.
Taylor noticed the tension. "Is everything okay?"
Marie stepped back out of the barn with Taylor.
Sam got down and followed them.
Marie gave him an odd look.
Sam looked back over his head. "I'm not a demon if that is what you were wondering."
Marie shoved Taylor behind her. "You seemed awful interested in my flowers and the barn ceiling."
Taylor stuck his head around her side. "Why would you be a demon?"
"That is a devil's trap, right?" He tilted his head back to the barn.
Marie gave him a look that said 'not around Taylor.'
Taylor walked around her side. "You know about those?"
Marie was stunned. "What?"
"You know about demons?" Taylor asked.
Sam sighed. "He knows."
Marie sucked in a breath of air and then blew it out slowly. She ushered them back into the barn and opened the door to a tack room. "How?"
Sam explained how he had met them and how he learned about the supernatural.
Marie hugged Taylor. "You should never have found out."
Sam frowned. "Something attacked Craig's unit. That was kind of the first thing."
Taylor pulled away from the hug. "It is okay that I know about it. I even have powers!"
Marie's eyes got big. "What?"
Taylor happily told her about the Grigori and his abilities.
Marie turned toward the wall and wiped her face. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Taylor grimaced. "I didn't know you knew about all this stuff. How would you have reacted if you didn't know anything."
Marie took a shuddered breath. "You guys let him hunt?"
Sam shook his head. "No. He doesn't go with us."
Marie wiped her face again. "My own father was some sort of hunter. He had many books but kept me away from it. When I was a teenager he was bitten by a wolf. He gave me his collection and instructed me to hide it. He told me about the flowers and said that they would keep the wolves away. I thought he had lost his mind. He shot himself that night."
Taylor hugged her. "I didn't know that."
She rubbed his back. "I haven't even told your papa."
"Where did the trap come from?" Sam asked.
Marie squeezed Taylor. "He was big on those things. That one is faded but was put there when we first moved out here. Before he died, he made a big show of telling me I needed one here. I didn't want it in the house so I had it placed out here."
"Why out here?" Sam asked.
Marie felt along the tack room wall. She felt an empty space and removed the boards. "I have grown since then." She said and patted her stomach.
Taylor peered into the space. "I can fit." He side stepped into the space in the wall.
Marie handed him a flash light. "Should be about 10 feet to your left."
Taylor found a stack of books. "Books?"
"My dad's collection. I haven't looked at it but didn't feel right about tossing it." Marie said.
Sam peered into the opening. "How many books."
Taylor sneezed. "I can't tell."
Sam tapped along the wall.
Marie handed him a crowbar. "You can take those off."
Taylor came out of the cubby. "You are the coolest nana ever."
Marie smiled. "Your great grandfather was cool. I merely hid all this away and forgot about it."
Sam chuckled. "You have jars of pie. I'd say that is pretty cool." He felt along the first board and carefully pried it off. He continued down the wall until he got to the area Taylor had been in. "I can put these back on too."
Marie waved her hand. "Another day. I don't want you two boys driving after dark."
Sam was going to say that he could drive in the dark but she didn't seem like the type to change her mind.
Taylor pulled the books out. He sneezed again. "So these haven't been touched since you moved here?"
Marie shook her head. "I was 17 when I get married to your papa."
Sam dusted one of the books off. He opened it and smiled. "Is this lore?"
Marie shrugged. "I haven't looked into any of it." She handed him an empty grain sack.
Sam stacked the books in the makeshift bag and tested the weight.
Taylor drug a few wooden boxes out and tucked them under his arm. "I think that is it." He put the boxes on a small table and sneezed a few more times.
"I'll grab you some honey too. Those allergies always did bother you." Marie said.
Sam grinned at Taylor.
Taylor sneezed. "It is the dust."
"Honey will help that."
Taylor gave up. "This is a lot of stuff."
Marie gathered some of the items. "Hopefully you lot can make sense of some of this. I always thought he was a bit off his rocker."
Sam took the bag and two wooden boxes. He looked up at the ceiling as he walked back into the main hall of the barn. "Do you want me to replace that?"
Marie sighed. "No. It will continue to fade with time and I don't see a reason to fix it."
Sam and Taylor carried stuff to the car. Taylor put two of the books in the front so he could read them.
Marie walked back to the car with three jars of honey.
Sam grinned. "I'll stack those on the roof."
Marie gave him a warm smile. "You have room in there for at least a couple dozen eggs."
Sam tilted his head.
Marie motioned toward the chickens. "It is just me and my husband out here. We give eggs away all the time."
Sam shrugged. "Only if you don't mind."
Marie winked at him. "I'll get those."
Sam sat the jars in the back of the car and looked at Taylor. "I was prepared for a crate of family photos."
Taylor grinned.
Marie handed four cartons of eggs to Sam. "Next time Taylor heads this way, you just come with him."
Sam took the eggs. "I'll be going off to California to college."
Marie smiled. "Then you best visit before you go."
Sam blushed. "Yes ma'am."
She gave Sam a hug and turned to Taylor. "You watch yourself. I don't know much about these creatures but you stay clear. You are my favorite grandchild."
Taylor hugged her. "You are my favorite nana."
Marie clicked her tongue and pushed his head down so she could kiss the top of it. "Drive safe and let me know when you make it back."
Sam waved and got in the driver's seat. He was not used to that extreme level of hospitality. He pulled back onto the path and away from the house. "Call Bobby."
Taylor grabbed his phone and put it on speaker phone.
"Hey, Taylor. Are you headed back?" Bobby asked.
"Yes, sir." Taylor said.
Sam spoke up. "We have been sent back with a ... few... things." Sam said.
Bobby asked what he meant.
Sam chuckled. "You'll see when we get back. Have Dean and Kate made it?"
Bobby said he'd call to check their status too.
###########
Kate sat in the front seat and cupped her hands.
"What are you doing?" Dean asked.
Kate whipped her head to look at him. "Nothing."
"Are you trying to use an ability?" Dean asked.
Kate licked her lips. "I don't have this ability."
"Kate, do not start this." Dean said.
Kate dropped her hands. "My head feels fine."
"That doesn't matter. What were you trying to do?" Dean pushed.
Kate blinked a few times. "How could would it be if I could light stuff on fire."
Dean choked. "You are trying to start a fire in the car? In baby?"
Kate's mouth dropped open.
"Are you insane?"
Kate blinked again. "I knew it wouldn't work."
Dean narrowed his eyes. "New rule. No fires in or around baby."
Kate grinned. "Okay."
Dean poked her. "I mean it."
"What if I could get strong enough to lift the car with my mind?"
Dean tapped the breaks. "You may not use your abilities on baby."
Kate giggled. "It is just a car."
Dean gave her a faked stern look. "You take that back."
Kate crossed her arms and scrunched her nose.
"Baby is not just a car."
"She is baby. I know." Kate said with a grin.
Dean nudged her and looked back to the road. She wasn't a bad road trip buddy. He felt his phone buzz. "Hey, Bobby."
"Where about are you?" Bobby asked.
"Uh, navigator, how far out are we?" Dean asked.
Kate looked at the route. "Three hours but since Dean is driving we should make it in one. Ow!" She rubbed her leg where Dean pinched her.
Bobby chuckled. "She wasn't lying."
Dean grumbled. "We should be about two hours away."
Kate folded the map.
"Taylor and Sam drove out to Marie's house. She had a box of stuff for us. They should get home around the same time." He paused. "Dean Eric, that does not make it a race."
Kate giggled loudly.
Dean scoffed. "I wasn't going to."
"Kate, smack him. That is a lie." Bobby teased
Kate happily smacked Dean's arm.
Dean chuckled. "I will get her home safely." He said his goodbyes and hung up.
Kate grinned at Dean. "Eric."
"Amelia." He shot back.
Kate leaned back against the seat. She was tired and her head felt heavy.
Dean watched her from the side of his eye. Did her abilities have side effects?
Kate looked out the window and got a little dizzy.
Dean patted the seat beside his leg. "Lay down."
Kate shook her head.
Dean patted the seat again. "You are tired. Lay your head down."
Kate curled up in the seat and closed her eyes.
Dean rubbed her head with his fingers and smirked when she quickly fell asleep. The day had been hectic and a rollercoaster. The case was supposed to be easy and she wasn't supposed to be in the action. He was stuck between wanting to keep her safe and knowing that the more he sheltered her, the harder she would fight. Jo seemed to want to hunt but didn't have the skillset she needed. She knew just enough to make herself dangerous. Dean didn't want that for Kate. When he saw that the demon had her, his heart fell. Then, he saw her face when her plan worked how she wanted it to. She smiled but it was almost dark. She was smug and he figured he would be too if he pulled that off. It worried him though. Her explanation of her vision also worried him. He had to admit that he enjoyed taking out a creature every now and then but she was taunting them. He glanced down at her and frowned. He didn't want her to lose what made her Kate.
Bobby checked his watch when he heard the impala. It had been just under two hours and he wondered how fast Dean had been going. The boy had a lead foot but was a good driver. He loved baby too much to drive recklessly.
Dean nudged Kate. "Hey, sleepy head. We are at Bobby's."
Kate sat up and rubbed her eyes. She didn't know she was that tired. "Already?"
"Yep. You slept for a while." Dean said.
Kate got out of the car and stretched. She smelled copper and dabbed at her nose. It wasn't pouring blood at least.
Dean took the bags to the house. He looked up at Bobby. "Sam isn't back yet?"
Bobby shook his head. "Should be any minute."
Kate sat on the hood of the car and swung her feet. As soon as her head had hit the seat, she passed out. She had gotten used to the hum of the tires against the blacktop and Dean's loud music.
Dean stepped in front of the car. "Are you still tired?"
Kate shrugged. "A little."
Dean took her hand and pulled her off the hood. "Go on in. I'll unload the car."
Kate walked up the steps and sat down on the porch swing. The breeze was nice and the sun was going to set soon.
Dean took another bag in and grabbed some lemonade for her. He sat down beside her and looked out over the railing of the porch. "You were really quick on your feet this morning."
Kate leaned her head on him. "I'm glad it worked out."
"Me too. That was pretty scary. Were you scared?" Dean asked.
Kate looked up at him. "Of course."
"What was your plan if the sprinklers didn't kick on?" Dean asked.
Kate sat up. "Bite my arm and touch the demon who had me. Then I was hoping it would cause a distraction so you could get Jo out."
Dean nodded. He was noticing that more and more she didn't have the instinct to protect herself in situations like that. He started to mention that but Sam pulled into the driveway.
Kate stood up and stretched again. She walked out to the car and went to Taylor's side. She looked in the backseat and moved back so he could open the front door. "What is all of this?"
Taylor grinned. "Uh, my grandmother likes to cook."
Kate smiled. "It smells good."
Taylor turned around in his seat and dug around in one of the boxes. He handed her a jar.
"Is this pie?" She asked.
Taylor nodded. "Yep. It is the best."
Dean walked over to help Sam unload the car.
Kate held up the jar. "Look, it is pie in a jar."
Dean looked at it over the top of the car. His interest was thoroughly peaked. "Why is it in a jar?"
Taylor drug a box out of the back seat. "It stays good longer, you can take it with you and it keeps the ice cream from falling off."
Dean licked his lips. "I'm sold."
Sam opened the trunk. "She sent back a lot of stuff. She's a good cook. Trust me."
Dean carried some of the boxes inside so that Taylor and Kate could put the food away.
Bobby returned with Dean to the car. "Anything I can do?"
Sam pointed to the feed sack. "Marie's father was a hunter or something. I know, I was shocked too. She didn't know much but he gave her those before he died. She hid them away. I'd open it out here. They were in a false wall for a couple decades."
Bobby took the bag to the porch and got a couple cloths from inside. He dusted off the first book and looked at a few pages. They were definitely lore books. Some were so old that he worried about the pages turning to dust. He was quiet as he looked at each book. He found a journal and noted that a lot of the entries centered around werewolves.
Sam stopped in front of Bobby. "What do you think?"
Bobby tapped the top book. "This is quite the collection. It will take me weeks to make a dent in these books."
Sam smiled. "There is more in the car."
Bobby stood up quickly. He was genuinely excited. "So she hid them and never looked at them?"
Sam shrugged. "She thought that her dad was crazy. She did say he was bitten by a werewolf and shot himself. She grows wolfsbane outside her house."
Bobby eyed the boxes in the trunk. "What are these?"
"Your guess is as good as mine."
Bobby stacked the small boxes and carried them to his desk. "She sent food too?"
Sam laughed. "Yeah. A ton of it. I tried to say we didn't need it but she didn't like that."
Bobby surveyed his freezer. "I am liking her more and more."
Taylor appeared in the doorway. "She sent dessert too."
Bobby raised an eyebrow.
Kate opened the door to the fridge. "An assortment."
Dean clapped his hands. "Pie time."
Sam grabbed the ice cream. "I saw peach cobbler."
Bobby chuckled. "Huh, I'll take the blackberry one."
Taylor put the jars in the oven to warm them and then handed them out. "Dean, I know you have eaten a lot of pie. I want you to think about that. She has won awards for these."
Dean wasn't picky about pie. He dug his fork into the cherry pie and took a bite. He tapped his fork on the jar. "Bobby, we are keeping him."
Bobby laughed. "That good?"
Dean took another bite and nodded.
"She likes cooking and I think this all makes her feel needed. She said we were welcome to get more stuff when we ran out." Taylor said.
Kate finished her dessert and looked into the box of items. "This is all about your family?"
Taylor rinsed his jar and knelt beside her. "Yes. I don't know what is in here."
Dean tapped Kate on the head. "It is getting late. You can look at it in the morning."
Kate grumbled. "I'm not that tired."
"You will find something interesting and go down a rabbit hole. It has been a long day and we can all sort through this tomorrow." Dean said.
Taylor smiled at Kate. "We can look at it with a fresh mind. It would suck to miss something because we are sleepy." He stood up and held his hand out for Kate.
Kate turned and gave Dean the stink eye but followed Taylor.
Dean sighed. He put the lid on the box and walked into Bobby's office. "Are you going to look through those books tonight?"
Bobby raised an eyebrow. "You can try sending me to bed. I can't say it would work out too well."
Dean chuckled. "I was going to offer to get you a drink then sit down with you."
Bobby smirked. "I'll have my usual."
Sam met Dean in the kitchen. "I got a full meal and it was amazing."
Dean tilted his head. "It looks like you got more than a meal."
Sam rubbed his neck. "I'm surprised she didn't try to send the entire house. I am going to run up to make sure the kids are good and aren't conspiring."
Dean snorted. "Kate couldn't stay awake in the car. Her eyes are red and she keeps dropping her head."
"She asked me to read."
Dean snorted again. "You are lame."
Sam smiled. "I know."
Dean filled the glasses with Bobby's latest stash of liquor. He took a sip of his and refilled it.
Bobby tapped a spot on his desk for the glass to be put down.
Sam leaned in the bathroom door. "Taylor, do you want to listen while I read to Kate?"
Kate blushed. "Sam."
Taylor nudged her. "Sure."
Sam ruffled Kate's hair. "I have to do it while I can. You'll have to convince Dean when I'm gone."
Kate grinned. "How? I'm not allowed to compel him."
Sam chuckled. "I guess you'll have to read your own book."
Kate rinsed toothpaste from her mouth and flopped down on her bed.
Sam sat in the floor beside her bed and patted the floor beside him.
Taylor took the spot beside Sam and leaned his head back.
Sam opened the book and started reading. He could feel Kate's hair brushing his face over his left shoulder. This was how they read sometimes. She'd lay on her bed on her stomach and rest her chin on her arms. Sam reached back and brushed her hair back. He read a few pages before a sudden weight hit his shoulder. He grinned and sat the book down. He gently cradled her head and moved her to her pillow.
"What happens next?" Taylor asked.
Sam smiled. "You have to wait until tomorrow."
Taylor frowned. "It was just getting good."
Sam handed him the book. "It is all yours if you want to read it."
Taylor shook his head. "She'd get mad at me."
Sam shrugged. "There is a whole shelf of books. Pick your poison."
Taylor scooted over to Sam's bookcase and chose a book.
Sam stretched. "You can take it with you to your bed. Don't stay up late though. As soon as she wakes up she isn't going to let you sleep."
Taylor grinned. "Thanks."
Dean looked at the stack of new books. Many of them had the same odd symbol. It was a circle with another circle inside. In the center was some sort of star. "Have you seen this before?"
Bobby shrugged. "I don't think so."
Sam looked over Dean's shoulder. "Must mean something since so many have that mark."
Dean flipped through and looked at pictures while Sam and Bobby read.
Bobby went to take a sip of his drink and nearly snorted it through his nose. He slammed the book down and quickly went to one of his shelves.
Dean furrowed his brows. "You good?"
Bobby ignored him. "There." He held his finger on a passage in one of his own books.
Sam went around to look at the open page. "That has to be a rough translation."
Bobby turned the book in his hand toward Sam.
"What is it?" Dean asked.
Bobby grabbed his glass and downed the brown liquid. "Son, that there is a guide on how to kill a demon."
Dean's mouth dropped open. "What?"
Bobby braced himself on his desk and looked into Dean's eyes. He gave him a crooked smile. "We can kill the sons-a-bitches."
