Chapter 1
Obito's Alpha was screaming bloody murder. Obito had left the Mist the instant his Alpha began crying out, leaving a shadow clone to take care of business.
Mate was hurt.
Mate was dying.
Omega needed them!
RIP THOSE BASTARDS WHO PUT THEIR HANDS ON THEIR MATE APART-
That was all Obito had heard in less than a minute. He teleported himself into Kamui, then went straight to Kakashi Hatake. Kakashi was still reckless with his life at twenty-six, and of course the idiot had gotten himself into trouble yet again.
Obito had been forced to save his life several times during his time in ANBU, but only twice as a jonin, in the early days when Kakashi had been getting used to being out of ANBU. Now Kakashi was back in ANBU uniform, and it made Obito's blood boil.
He had three students, so what was the Third Hokage thinking, putting Kakashi back in that uniform? It didn't matter if it was one bloody mission. Kakashi wasn't meant to be in ANBU anymore.
Once again Obito questioned Minato's decision making skills. How in the world could that fool ever think Kakashi would have recovered in ANBU? Known for losing its men and women young, or putting them out for long periods of recovery time, for their own sakes.
Not that the recovery time was enforced often, which explained the high death rate.
He arrived back in Konoha, right on the outskirts, and found three dead Konoha ANBU lying still in puddles of blood. Twelve Kumo ANBU surrounded the clearing, with four standing before a very familiar form.
Mate! Our mate needs us!
Obito winced. His damn Alpha was being a nagging pest.
Kakashi was out cold, his hound mask scattered across the grass in pieces. He was soaked in blood, his chest was heaving, struggling to breathe. One of the Kumo nin were healing him, the woman spitting out curses.
Hands off!
Obito rolled his eyes. No, the medic was healing Kakashi. That was a good thing.
But he's our mate! They hurt him.
Obito wanted to strangle his impatient Alpha. He needed to shut up so Obito could concentrate.
"Dammit, he's barely alive!" the medic complained. "We were ordered to bring him in alive and well. What were you fools thinking?"
"We managed to drug him, but it didn't work!" One protested. "That should have made him weak and docile, being the Omega that he is."
"Heat inducing drugs take time to kick in, dumbass!" The Omega medical nin snarled. "You should have just kept him back while we killed off the rest of the squad-"
Heat inducing? Yes! Our Omega will want to mate-
Obito barely restrained a growl.
"The murderous intent he had was terrifying!" The ANBU protested. "He was going to kill us if we didn't try to kill him first-"
That was annoying. Kakashi's murderous intent rarely peaked out anymore. He was usually much more relaxed now.
"You're scared of someone you already had drugged up?" the woman asked dryly, shaking her head. "The Raikage is going to be furious with us. He wanted Hatake brought in as unharmed as possible!"
"He's a vicious little Omega. He and his dog bit me-"
Obito paused. Dog? Shit. Kakashi would throw a fit if they harmed one of his dogs-
He spotted Pakkun shakily trying to get up from across the clearing. It was obvious Pakkun had been kicked into a tree, the dog collapsing where a small hole the size of him was embedded into the bark. Pakkun tried to get back up again, whimpering, but he was in no condition to go anywhere.
Good boy. Defending our mate. Defending his pack.
Yeah, but Pakkun was still a little shit.
"Boo hoo," the female Omega huffed. "I'm not healing a bite mark." She pulled her hands away from Kakashi's limp form and shakily stood up. "He's stable for now. I'm used up a lot of chakra healing him, so be gentle with him, for the Sage's sake! I don't want his wounds opening back up."
Another man stepped up, clearly the leader, growling lowly. "Good, pick Hatake up and let's go. We've been too long."
Obito had remained quietly within the shadows of the trees, but now that Kakashi was stable, he didn't need to worry about endangering his life anymore. Obito had gotten all the information he needed. Kumo wanted Kakashi alive and well, and they had him drugged up in an effort to induce him into an early heat to keep him docile.
Yes! Finally helping our Omega. Tear off their hands, snap their necks! Kill them and take our Omega home. To a nest. He needs a nest-
He dismissed his Alpha. Instead Obito walked out of the shadows and into the clearing, growling lowly.
"Keep your filthy hands off him and I might just spare your lives," Obito said coldly.
No mercy! Make them bloody and break their bones. Make them suffer like they did to our mate!
"Shit!" The leader cursed, and pointed at the medic and the man standing beside her. "Take Hatake and go. We'll deal with this and catch up."
Obito scoffed. "I've been kind enough to give you a warning. My Alpha is feeling very impatient at the moment, and it's making me twitchy."
He allowed his Alpha to let out its murderous intent. Usually his Alpha belonged in the back of his mind, where it wouldn't react so easily to things, but Kumo had endangered their mate.
They deserved to be torn apart.
The moment an Alpha tried to pick up Kakashi he moved. Obito tore through all the ANBU like butter, scattering more blood across the forest. His Alpha gave bloodthirsty snarls, demanded more blood, more satisfaction. Told Obito to get the filth away from their mate.
He hushed the Alpha once he was finished. The Alpha grumbled moodily, but grew calmer as Obito approached Kakashi's still form. He hadn't stirred. No, not even a little. Kakashi should have been awake and alert, but he was far too injured now.
Our Omega. Mate, sweet mate. We must help him.
A scent caught his nose. Obito flinched. Kakashi's scent was sharp, like the beginning of a lightning storm, but also somehow still sweet in that Omega way. Like chocolate, but dark, bitter chocolate.
Fuck it smelled amazing.
His Alpha growled lowly. Yes, our mate's scent. He's ready to mate, but too tired and in pain. Needs to rest, then mate. Bring him to a nest, heal him, then we can finally mate our Omega-
Obito slapped his other half away to the back of their mind, and instead carefully picked Kakashi up. It earned him a low moan of pain, and Kakashi quivered in his arms, but Obito soothed him, letting his own scent ease his mate. Kakashi went limp, heavy in his arms, thankfully Obito easily held him up, settling him in his arms.
"Get your paws... Off him..."
Obito glanced down and almost sighed. Pakkun was limping their way, growling lowly. His teeth were bared, hackles rising, but Obito wasn't threatened, at least not anymore. When he had been a child, Pakkun and his pack had been terrifying, because the little shits used to chase Obito all across town.
Apparently Kakashi's dogs disliked Alphas, or at least Alphas that came near their pup.
Obito huffed. "There's nothing anyone could do if I meant him any harm. You're both far too injured, and the rest of the ANBU here are dead." Obito chuckled lowly. "This is certainly going to make tensions rise even higher between Konoha and Kumo. I wonder what Konoha will do when they find all these dead Kumo ANBU lying about their territory, along with their own ANBU."
Pakkun managed another shaky step forward before yelping. He collapsed into the dirt, whimpering. Kakashi still didn't stir. Not even at one of his own hounds in pain.
"Come find Kakashi Hatake when you aren't so injured," Obito said, and ignored Pakkun's protests when he teleported himself and Kakashi back into Kamui's dimension.
Obito brought them back to the Mist, to one of the more expensive inns that were still standing. It was quiet, and the owner tensed the moment he spotted them. Obito wasted no time putting him under a genjutsu.
"Book us into one of your more expensive rooms," Obito ordered lazily. "My Omega needs to rest."
He almost groaned. Kakashi wasn't his Omega. Not in this world at least. One day they could be together properly in paradise, but for now they had to be patient. His Alpha whined, whined, at the idea, but Obito shoved it to the back of their mind. Where the bastard was supposed to stay.
"My apologises, sir. I only have one left for a guest who is arriving tomorrow-"
"Then hand that one over to my Omega," Obito demanded. "He needs somewhere quiet and calm."
"Of course, sir." The man bowed. "My deepest apologises to keep you and your mate waiting."
Obito scowled. "Just go sort it out already."
"Yes, sir!" He gestured for him to follow, and Obito kept up with him easily.
The guest room was perfect. The room was dimly lit with candles, with the fireplace crackling away. The bed was large, with thick blankets and plenty of pillows. Kakashi would be able to rest and recover from his injuries. Although he would be a lot more hassle to deal with when he was awake.
He eased Kakashi down on to the bed, already tossing off his armour. "He will require new clothes," Obito said.
The owner stammered. "Ah, my apologises, sir! We only have the bathhouse robes-"
"Go buy some." Obito rolled his eye.
His commands were simple enough.
Obito stripped off Kakashi's ruined clothes, all bloody and torn. His Alpha cooed, but Obito dismissed the eagerness. This wasn't anything to do with mating. Kakashi was injured.
Yes, but afterwards-
There was no afterwards. Obito would guard Kakashi while he rode out his heat here, but that was all. They weren't going to mate him.
But our mate!
Obito growled lowly and kicked his Alpha to the back of his mind again. Bastard wasn't couldn't have him ruin his plans. He returned his focus to Kakashi, and grimaced. His blood was staining the blanket.
The medical ninja had healed the worst wounds, but he was still bloody, bruised, and drained of nearly all his chakra. Not to mentioned drugged. Kakashi's heat would be held back by his exhaustion, his body too weak to process it, but once his strength began to return his heat would wallop him.
Obito cleaned Kakashi up and treated the last of his wounds. By the time he had finished the owner had returned, panting and breathless, but left fresh underwear, a mask and a very fancy blue yukata behind, along with a spare green one. Obito tossed the torn uniform his way, along with the blood stained blanket at the very top of the pile.
"Get rid of these."
"Yes, sir." The owner smiled. "Would you like me to have a meal prepared?"
Obito shook his head. "Later. For now my Omega is sound asleep, and I have no desire to wake him."
"Of course, sir. Please, enjoy yourselves." He bowed once more and left the room, closing the door shut quietly behind him.
Obito dressed Kakashi (making sure not to look at his face when he changed the mask, because Kakashi would find a way to throttle him, no matter how weak he was) before settling him on to the mattress, beneath the blankets. Kakashi shouldn't wake for some time. It would give Obito a chance to think.
He had never had to take Kakashi with him before. But Kakashi had never been so badly injured and alone during a mission. Obito could have dumped him in a hospital back in Konoha, left both him and Pakkun there, but it hadn't even occurred to him at the time.
Besides, Obito was feeling rather protective at the moment. The thought of people laying their hands on Kakashi's injured body, while he had no means to protect himself, so close to his heat, boiled Obito's blood.
He'd have to snap that person's neck.
Obito scowled. His Alpha was influencing his emotions again.
But he wanted to go and strangle somebody. The idiot who let Kakashi out on such a mission. He could strangle the very breath from the Third Hokage's lungs, watch him struggle until the old Beta's neck caved within Obito's grasp-
Shit. He was pissed off. Obito should have felt indifferent, but it was hard to dismiss his mate even in this life. Obito was offended on his mate's behalf.
Kumo had tried to take Kakashi.
Kumo who were known for targetting strong ninja and stealing them from their villages.
Seriously, bloody Konoha. It's council should have learned from their mistakes by now and protected their Omegas better, after having lost so many during the war.
The only Ninja Omegas Obito could think of in his generation were Kakashi, Kurenai, and Izumi. There were a few more, but honestly Obito didn't find that sort of information important.
The generation after that was even worse off. It had only three Ninja Omegas, Hinata Hyuga, Shikamaru Nara and Sasuke Uchiha, who was now being raised by Izumi Uchiha after Itachi and Obito had killed the rest of the Uchiha Clan. Perhaps more would be born someday, but it wasn't a good sign.
Honestly, he should keep Kakashi. At least his mate would actually be safe, instead of at risk, but Kakashi would fight him the entire time.
Project Tsuki No Mi wouldn't be ready to properly begin for quite a few more years. For now they were simply building up the Akatsuki.
No, he couldn't keep Kakashi here for that long. Not without doing something regretful, and he'd rather avoid that at this time.
