Taylor felt hands working their way under his head.
"Sit up, you need to drink something." Bobby said.
Taylor groaned. "Everything is too loud."
Bobby grimaced. "Take this, it should help." He helped Taylor sit up and take pain medication for his head. "They are headed back this way."
Kate sat on the floor beside Taylor. "Are they going to stop here?"
Bobby nodded. "Dean will be worn out from driving so I'll drive her from here to the Roadhouse if Ellen doesn't come get her. She is having some issues there. They found a door with that symbol on it but had no way to go inside."
Kate perked up. "Where did they find the door?"
"Kansas. Dean just said that the door was thick and he couldn't get it to budge. It exists so someone will just go another day and try to get into it." Bobby held water for Taylor. "You should lay down and get some rest."
Taylor hobbled over to the couch and crashed.
Bobby shrugged. That would do. "Kate, how are you feeling?"
Kate looked at Taylor. "I have a mild headache but it isn't so bad."
"You should rest too. That way, you wont feel cruddy when they get here." Bobby said.

Dean grabbed his burger from Caleb and took a bite. They had been driving for a while and Jo was sleeping in the backseat. He needed to keep himself awake until they made it back to Bobby's. In the commotion, he forgot to call John. "Can you get my dad on the phone?"
Caleb nodded and dialed John's number. "Hey, John. Dean wants to talk to you."
"Did you find her?" John asked.
Dean chewed and swallowed. "Yeah, we are headed to Bobby's. I had something I wanted to tell you."
"What, son?" John asked. He was tired and on edge, as usual.
"It works, dad." Dean said.
John paused. "What works?"
"The knife."
John was silent for a moment. His face tingled with what may have been joy. "How?"
"I took it with me and killed two demons with it. Dad, they didn't smoke out. They flickered and dropped." Dean's voice raised in pitch.
John rubbed his face. He didn't know what to say. "Don't let it out of your site."
Dean scoffed. "I'm going to attach it to my body." The knife would be sought after if anyone else found out they had it. He had talked to Caleb and they agreed on keeping it a secret. Caleb's one stipulation was that he get to use it at least once.
When they got to Bobby's house, Dean was barely keeping himself awake. He just needed a few hours of shut eye before being okay to face the new day.
Bobby helped them get things inside. "The kids are upstairs. I finally got Taylor up there. He pushed himself pretty hard."
Dean nodded. "Can you help Caleb with Jo?"
Bobby smirked. He went out to the car and gently woke Jo. "Hey, you need to come inside. There is a sofa you can sleep on."
Jo was groggy but recognized Bobby's voice. She followed him inside and went back to sleep once she laid down.
Caleb was the last to go inside and gratefully sought rest.
Bobby brewed some coffee and went to his office. He didn't think Jo would run but didn't give her the option. He sat down and his desk and read, quietly.
### ###
Morning came and woke the entire house up. Everyone was on high alert from the previous day. Kate hopped down the stairs and woke Jo up by hugging her. "I'm so so happy you are okay."
Jo gave her a small smile. "Good morning."
Kate gave Bobby a grin. "You need more bedrooms."
Bobby grumbled and waved her off.
Taylor approached Jo and Kate awkwardly. "Hi."
Jo gave him a sad smile and hugged him. "I'm sorry that you had to use an ability to find me. I heard that it made you feel sick."
"It is okay. I am just glad that you are okay." Taylor said.
Bobby sat back in his chair. "Kate, why don't you show Jo where some of the soap is. She can get a shower before the boys use all the hot water."
Kate took Jo upstairs. "How bad is it?"
Jo grimaced. "I don't know. I don't want to know."
Kate hugged her. "Take a long shower. I'll get a baseline."
Dean and Caleb debriefed the others on everything that happened in Kansas. "That door is heavy. I slammed into it with my shoulder and it didn't even wiggle." Dean said.
"He couldn't pick the lock either. It was a really weird lock." Caleb added.
Kate was interested in the mysterious door. "Maybe there is a key somewhere."
Dean shrugged. "Maybe, but who knows where that could be."
Jo stepped out of the shower and ran her fingers through her hair to detangle it. She was feeling more embarrassed and didn't want to face everyone. She hoped that her mom wasn't going to drive down because she couldn't imagine that she cared much about Jo's reputation.
Taylor put breakfast in the oven and on the stove. He wanted everyone to have a hearty meal and it got him out of the middle of the tension.
Kate was okay being in the middle. She wanted to know all the details and figure out what people were feeling. She agreed that Jo messed up but she was prepared to advocate if she needed to. She was bustling around and didn't catch Bobby's order to get ready for school.
Dean stopped her. "Bobby just told you to go get ready for school."
Kate groaned. "We can skip today."
Dean put a hand on her shoulder and steered her back up the stairs. "You are being nosey. Your job is to go to school."
Kate gritted her teeth. "Fine!"
Dean swatted her four times. "Lose the attitude."
Kate yelped but snapped out of her mood. She gathered her school clothes and changed with the door closed. When she was done, she stepped back into the hallway and ran into Dean. "I'm sorry."
He pulled her head to his chest. "I'll be glad when this week is over."
Kate tilted her head up. "So I can go back to having an opinion?"
Dean swatted her again, lightly. "Finish getting ready before I have to actually tan your hide."
Kate knocked on the bathroom door. "Do you need anything, Jo?"
Jo opened it. "No. I am just taking my time brushing through my hair. Why did he do that?"
Kate blushed. "I had a moment of insanity the other day. He is being harder on me this week."
Jo furrowed her brows. She hadn't realized how quick to snap that Dean was. "He isn't always like that?"
"No, I mean.. he gets that way but I accused him of being like John and I guess this is his way of saying he isn't." Kate said.
Jo shrugged. "Every time I have met him, he's had a stick up his ass."
Kate grinned. "Every time you have met him, he has been saving you from demons."
Jo chuckled. "You have a point. Do you want me to fix your hair?"
Kate perked up. "Yes!"
Taylor put food on plates and ran upstairs to get ready for school. "Kate, come on. Other people have to get ready."
Kate opened the door. "Then go get dressed. She is almost done."
Taylor rolled his eyes "girls."
Jo gave him a smile.
When he returned he tilted his head. "Why are you braiding a halo into her hair?"
Jo raised a brow. "It is cute."
Taylor grinned.
Kate kicked at him. "Jerk. I am literally part angel."
Taylor shoved them out of the bathroom. "I refuse to be late. So get."
Kate skipped down the stairs. She jumped on Dean's back. "Tell me about the knife."
Dean grunted from the impact. "It worked." he told her the result and then rolled his shoulders to get her back down to the ground. "I stabbed two of them and both dropped."
Kate hugged him. "I'm glad it worked and you got back safely."
Dean kissed the top of her head. "I keep my promises." He nudged her toward the kitchen. "Get something to eat and I'll take you to school."
Kate took Jo with her and made sure that she had breakfast.
Dean fidgeted with his car keys. "Bobby, I think I should ask you about something."
Bobby got closer to him. "What is it?"
"Uh, when I found Jo and got her to her motel room, she and I argued... well she yelled a lot. I made a comment and maybe I shouldn't have." Dean said.
Bobby put a hand on Dean's shoulder. "What did you say to her?"
Dean's cheeks got pink. "I told her if she hit me again I'd take a belt to her ass."
Bobby's lip twitched and his eyes crinkled. "Uh, son, why did you do that?"
"I was bluffing and she kept hitting me and was going to run. I took it off too. What if she tells Ellen and Ellen thinks I was going to hit her?" Dean asked.
Bobby licked his lips to fight the smile. "Dean, I think she'd understand. You didn't do it but I'll talk to Ellen. Your neck is safe."
Dean let out a huge breath of air.
Bobby finally grinned. "You're a good man Dean. Just breathe."
Dean checked the time. "Kids, 5 minutes."
Kate appeared in the hallway. She already had her backpack on and was chewing the remainder of her breakfast. She gave Dean a long hug and buried her face in his abdomen.
"Should I be concerned with how many hugs I have gotten?" Dean asked.
Kate squeezed him. "No."
Dean went to ruffle her hair but stopped. "What is this mess?"
Kate glared at him. "It is a braid. It is not a mess."
Dean gave her a wink. "It suits you."
Taylor put on his shoes. "I'm good to go."
Dean let Caleb know he would be back and left to do the school run. "You two did a really good job finding her."
"Thanks." Taylor said. It had taken a lot of energy from him but finding Jo was worth it. "Will we see Jo before she leaves?"
Dean shrugged. "I don't think so, bud. I think Ellen is on her way."
Kate frowned. "What about the symbol?"
"I'll get the information from her. Don't worry." Dean said.
Kate and Taylor made it to the school and to their rooms right before the bell chimed.
Dean drove back to Bobby's and turned the music up as he drove. Dean was used to having a lot of responsibility. He had done the majority of raising both Sam and himself. He didn't mind looking after Kate and Taylor but some days wore on him. The mental load exhausted him. He had to make sure they got to and from school, stayed fed and sheltered, make sure they didn't get too far out of hand and manage his own life and hunting. Some of it was instinct but other things made him second guess himself. He did question why Ellen had wanted him, of all people, to track Jo down. He had a few possible reasons but it was one more thing that he was expected to figure out. He did figure it out but not without the help of Taylor. On second thought, that may be why she wanted his help... he had resources that most hunters didn't have. Bobby did manage a lot of the stuff with the kids but the extremes tended to fall on Dean's shoulders. Dean had to be honest with himself and say that he had willingly taken on the harder stuff. It was natural for him and when Kate was in trouble of any sort, it was him that she looked to for a solution.
Bobby had chatted with Jo while Dean went to drop off the kids. He got a better idea of her mental state and why she ran off. Jo was a bit like a niece to him. He had known her since she was in diapers and he thought a lot of Ellen. "You can't keep running off. You give your mama a heart attack every time you do."
Jo frowned. "I know. We found the place though. There could be things there that could save people."
"I'll let your mom give you the lecture on how poorly thought out that was but you got very lucky this time around." Bobby said.
Jo didn't like that Bobby was disappointed. He was a grumbly teddy bear and his disapproving gaze made her heart sink. "Is she coming here?"
"Yep. She should be here in a little bit. She figured the drive would give you time to talk." Bobby said.
Jo swallowed. She didn't think she'd get a whole lot of talking in during that conversation. "How'd she sound when you talked to her?"
"Frankly, tired."
Jo rested her forehead on the table.
"I've got a stack of stuff on my desk you can look at. See if we can't compile some information about that symbol." Bobby said as he heard the impala's engine.
Jo followed him to his office. "Wow, all this is from Taylor's great grandfather?"
Bobby nodded. "Just get started on that. I'll be back in a minute." He went outside to talk to Dean."
"What did Ellen say?" Dean asked.
Bobby smirked. "She called you a coward."
Dean jerked his head back. "Why?"
"I may have told her you were bluffing because you were a little afraid of her." Bobby said.
Dean huffed. "I have made that very clear."
Bobby clapped him on the back. "Don't worry. She said no hard feelings and understands."
Dean relaxed.
Caleb stepped onto the porch. "Hey, Bobby. Do you have an extra car? I want to run stock up on a few things before I head out."
Dean eyed him. "Are you leaving?"
"My leg is good to go. I'm not leaving today. I just figured I'd do best far away from here." Caleb said.
Dean snorted. "And I'm the coward?"
Bobby shrugged. "Yeah, I'll get the keys. I'll send you with a list of stuff for me too."
Jo looked up when everyone walked back inside. She blushed at the look Dean gave her and went back to her research.
Dean sat down across from her. "Are you working on that symbol?"
"Yes. Whatever it is, is well guarded." Jo said.
Dean took one of the papers. "At least we know it is real. Well, I think it is. That door may lead to a storage unit with books and stuff." He didn't think the place was very big, given the size of the door and the surroundings.
As Caleb left, he waved as Ellen pulled into Bobby's driveway. He rolled down his window and said he'd be back and hoped to catch her before they left.
Ellen smiled and waved him off. Her heart was racing. She just wanted to wrap Jo in a hug and never let go. Jo was all she had left of Bill and the thought of losing her hurt.
Jo cringed when she heard a car door shut and footsteps coming up the steps. She stayed frozen at Bobby's desk and squirmed uncomfortably.
Dean gave her a smirk.
Bobby opened the door when Ellen knocked. He accepted the hug Ellen went for and then shut the door. "How was the drive?"
"Same old same old." Ellen said and walked farther into the living room. She turned and saw Dean and Jo in Bobby's office. She nodded. "Dean."
Dean nodded back as a means to say hello.
Jo avoided looking at Ellen. She knew if she did she would see how hurt she was and Jo didn't want that.
Dean kicked her foot under the desk.
Jo furrowed her brows and glared at him before rolling her eyes and standing up. She walked toward Ellen, hesitantly.
Ellen closed the gap and wrapped her arms around her daughter. She kissed the side of her head and rocked side to side. She didn't want to break the embrace and ruin the moment but she was reminded how precious Jo was and how careless she acted.
Jo felt Ellen tense and braced herself.
Ellen looked her over for any sign of injury. She stepped back and crossed her arms. "So, Joanna Beth, do you care to tell me what the hell you were thinking?"
Jo flinched. "I wasn't hunting."
Ellen put her hands on her hips. "I asked what you were thinking."
Jo shifted. "I heard some hunters talking about a place and I was trying to find it."
Bobby figured some coffee and a change of rooms would help ease the situation. "Why don't we take this to the kitchen."
Jo shuffled down the hallway. Having the table between them would make it easier to talk.
Dean turned to go outside when a harsh snap caught his attention.
Ellen snapped her fingers. "You. Go to the kitchen too."
Dean froze momentarily.
"I'll need you to verify a thing or two." Ellen said and gave him a warm smile.
Dean let go of the doorknob and walked down the hallway, to the kitchen.
Bobby chuckled and shook his head as he trailed behind. John was the only other person that elicited such a reaction from Dean and it amused him greatly.
Dean poured Ellen a cup of coffee. He didn't feel like he needed to be part of the conversation but wasn't about to argue.
Ellen tapped the sides of her coffee cup. She grilled Jo on every detail of her plan. It had been thought out and planned for a decent amount of time. It wasn't a spur of the moment decision and that made it worse.
Jo felt two foot tall and shrinking. She hated that both Bobby and Dean were in the room but couldn't ask them to step out. Truthfully, they were probably keeping her mom from killing her right then and there.
Dean was starting to feel bad for Jo. Ellen must have learned how to lecture at the same place John had.
"Where the kids hoping to see her after school?" Ellen asked.
Dean looked at her. "They were but I told them you'd be headed back before then."
Ellen leaned forward and looked at the clock on the wall. She looked at Bobby and tilted her head toward the hallway so she could speak to him. "Do you still have a spare room?"
Bobby rubbed his chin. "Kate and Taylor are in one and Dean and Caleb are in the other. You are welcome to Taylor and Kate's room if you need to rest."
Ellen gave him an annoyed look. "I wasn't asking for a place to rest."
Bobby understood. "Kate's room is available if you need it."
Ellen went back into the kitchen. "Jo, upstairs."
Jo didn't move. "Mama, wait until we get home, please."
Ellen shook her head. "You have research you need to work on with them and that drive on a sore tail might do you some good."
Jo turned beet red. "Mom."
Ellen eyed Dean and then looked back at Jo. "Did he have to threaten you with a belt in order to prevent you from running, after he drove all day to pick you up?"
Jo paled. "I wasn't going to run."
Ellen looked back at Dean. "Why'd you threaten her?"
Dean licked his lips. "Um, she was going to slap my face. I was afraid she'd make a run for it. I was just..."
"I don't care if you were bluffing or not." Ellen said. She looked back at Jo. "So, answer my question."
Jo dug her toes into the rug. "Yes, ma'am."
Ellen looked at Dean and held her hand out. She snapped her fingers twice and gestured to him.
Dean honestly had no idea what she was asking for.
Ellen looked at Dean. "Give me your belt."
Dean froze.
"Mom! Seriously." Jo hissed.
Ellen put her hand up to tell her to be quiet. "I'm not wearing one. Bobby's is too wide. So, Dean, if you don't mind."
Dean gave Jo an apologetic look and released his belt to Ellen. He didn't appreciate being brought into the situation but knew Ellen thought the gesture would make a greater impact on Jo since she had technically inconvenienced him.
"First door on the right." Bobby said.
Ellen tilted her head at Jo. "You heard him."
Dean inched toward the back door. "I'm just going to.. go work on the car."
Bobby nodded. "I'll help you with that."
Ellen rolled her eyes and waved them off.
Dean pulled baby into the shop and dug out the correct tools.
Bobby put a hand on his shoulder. "You doing okay?"
Dean grimaced. "She is a little intense."
Bobby chuckled and popped the hood to the car. "Yeah. She's a good mama though."
Dean shrugged. He could tell that Ellen would move heaven and earth for Jo.

Kate took notes as the teacher spoke but had problems paying attention. Her mind was elsewhere. She wracked her brain for a vague detail that she couldn't place. She felt someone nudge her and snapped back to reality. "I'm sorry, ma'am. I didn't hear what you asked me."
The teacher appreciated the manners. "I asked what you got as an answer to question twelve."
Kate blushed. She looked down at her paper. "C."
The teacher nodded in approval.
Kate sighed. She had to shut that side of her brain off. She didn't want to get another note sent home. She was determined to be on Dean's good side.
Taylor absorbed information so quickly that he began to get bored during certain classes. He tried to slow himself down but couldn't help it. He twiddled his thumbs as his teacher finished explaining how to do an assignment. He knew Kate was probably struggling with staying positive so he got an idea. He thought of a quirky drawing in his head and pictured himself sending it to her.
Kate blinked a few times. She furrowed her brows and covered a grin. She pushed the thought back to Taylor and smiled.
Taylor smiled inwardly. Why hadn't they tried doing that before?
At lunch, Kate skipped over to Taylor. "You are bad at drawing."
Taylor smiled. "Did it make you laugh?"
Kate nodded. "Yes."
"Do you want to shoot some hoops later?" Taylor asked.
Kate smiled. "Sure. I have to invite Ellie. She thinks I don't like her anymore."
Taylor rolled his eyes. "Of course."

Dean tuned up everything he could find on the car. He looked around the shop. "I could work on one of the other cars."
Bobby smirked. "You can't sit still, can you?"
Dean shrugged. "Not often."
Bobby stepped out of the garage and noticed Jo standing outside the front door to the house. He waved her over. "I'll be back."
Dean nodded at him.
Bobby looked at Jo and gave her a gentle pat on the shoulder. "He's in the shop."
Jo gave him a sad smile and forced herself to walk toward the shop.
Dean heard movement. He looked up, expecting to see Bobby but saw Jo. He gave her a sympathetic smile.
Jo bit her lip. She held out his belt. "Um, here."
Dean slowly reached for it and put it back through the loops on his pants. "She sent you out here to return it? Damn."
Jo grimaced but didn't respond.
Dean brushed his hands along his pants. He wanted to make Jo more comfortable but didn't know how. "I.. I uh."
Jo looked away from him. She thought she'd pass out from humiliation. "I'm sorry I hit you."
Dean cleared his throat. "I think you have more than made up for that."
Jo covered her face with her hands.
"Your mom is intense." Dean said.
Jo simply nodded.
"My dad is too." Dean said.
Jo gave him a small smile.
"Although, had I run off like that, he wouldn't have given me the luxury of privacy." He said with a smirk.
Jo blew air from her nose. "She didn't give me much of that."
Dean handed her some shop towels. "I need those degreased if you feel like helping."
Jo looked at the stack of car parts and accepted the job.
They worked silently for a while before Bobby appeared to tell them to come inside.
Dean washed his hands in the shop sink and patted them dry on his pants.
Ellen was sitting in the living room sipping another cup of coffee. She assumed that Jo and Dean were back in good standing. "I'd like to see the research."
Jo got the books. "There is said to be a place that has information or weapons against the supernatural. This symbol is related to it. No one knows much about it."
"Kate has been focusing on it lately. I saw it on a rock by the door we found." Dean said.
Ellen nodded. "What kind of door?"
"Well, it looked like nothing. It was just a door beside the road. It may lead to a storage room. I don't know if there used to be a building there or something." Dean said.
They went over the research and talked about it.
"When Kate and Taylor get home, I bet they can help draw some connections with this." Bobby said.
Dean looked at the clock again. "Do you want to go with me to pick them up in a little bit?"
Jo cringed. "Uh, I'll wait here."
Dean gave her a smirk. "Suit yourself."

Taylor tossed the ball to Ellie. "You both could play this year."
Ellie threw the ball. She was much weaker than Kate. "I think I'd rather cheer."
Kate scrunched her nose. "No cheer for me." She heard a satisfying swish shortly after she launched the ball toward the hoop.
Taylor retrieved the ball. "You just have to practice, Ellie." He spent time showing her how to hold the ball and how to position her arms. "If you aren't good at shooting, you could be good at other things."
Two boys approached the trio. "Yo, Kuznetzov."
Taylor bristled at his former last name. "Hey, Luis. I go by Harvelle now."
Luis smirked. "Why? David still goes by it. Everyone knows your real name."
Kate twitched with the anger building inside of her. She heard 'let me handle it.' pop into her head.
Taylor knew Luis had a history of being a jerk so he didn't feed into the taunting. "Yes, I chose to use a different name. Did you need something?"
"We want to know why you are shacked up with her." Luis said, motioning to Kate.
Taylor gave Kate a look. "I wouldn't call it being shacked up. I am living with her family because they are nice people. I can't exactly go home, seeing as it did burn to the ground."
"David said you lived there before and probably set the fire and just blamed your dad." The other boy said.
Taylor didn't doubt that David would use the situation to be a victim. "That is unfortunate that he would start a rumor like that. We were busy playing basketball here so if that is all you wanted to know, I'd like to get back to our game." He turned away form the two boys and tossed the ball to Ellie.
Kate saw Luis clinch his fist and compelled him to trip.
Luis fell to the ground and hopped up, flustered. He had no idea what he had tripped over. His pride was wounded because of how hard he hit the ground. He nudged his friend and left.
Taylor bounced the ball that Ellie had thrown back.
"Why let them treat you like that?" Kate asked.
Taylor eyed her. He knew that the boy falling was Kate's doing. "If I got mad and punched them, that would solidify what they were thinking. I know he is a bully and don't see the point in playing his game."
Kate rolled her eyes. She wanted nothing more than to punch Luis in his stupid face. She caught the ball when Taylor passed it to him.
Taylor saw her eyes dart to Luis and stepped in front of her. "Do not throw that at him."
Kate huffed. "I wasn't."
Taylor gave her what she would deem to be Dean's 'I know you are lying' look. "I will handle it."
Kate rolled her eyes again. "Fine. You are lame."
Taylor took the ball from her. "Save the sucker punches and butt kickings for later."
Kate perked up. "As long as I'm in on it."
Taylor snorted and threw the ball. It swished and he rebounded it. "Ellie, see how I just grabbed the ball as it came down? If the person misses the shot and you rebound it, you can either shoot it or if that isn't your goal, you can toss it to one of your team members. So, not everything is about making baskets."
Ellie had to admit that Taylor was nice. "Can't you get hurt during a game? What if someone bumps into you?"
Kate nudged Ellie with her hip. "You would be okay. It isn't football."
Ellie still wasn't sure. Kate was brave and athletic. She was easily scared and really didn't like getting hurt. "I'll think about it."
The bell rang.
As Taylor tossed the ball back into the bin he didn't miss Luis looking at him. He also didn't miss the shoulder check he got as he was trying to walk through the door. Taylor reminded himself that he did have abilities and Luis didn't realize he was messing with someone that could likely throw him across the room. To Luis, Taylor probably looked like easy prey. He was mild mannered and seemingly sensitive. Taylor ignored the shove and continued to his next class. He just hoped Kate didn't insert herself into the situation.
When it was time to go home, Kate walked with Ellie to the lockers. Ellie helped distract her from the world outside of school. Ellie talked about girly things and not about the supernatural. When she opened her locker she found a note. The note had to be from Luis as the subject matter wasn't friendly.
Taylor approached Kate when he saw her face. "What is the matter?"
Kate showed him the note. "Can we kick his ass now?"
Taylor shook his head. "He will stop when he sees that we are no fun to pick on."
Kate slammed her locker door.
Taylor bit the inside of his cheek. He would talk to Dean about it and try to make sure that Kate didn't go rogue. He didn't want that kind of attention.
Dean waited outside for the kids to come out. He saw Kate stomping toward the car, followed by Taylor who looked annoyed. They'd do great in silent movies, considering they wore their emotions, clearly, on their faces.
Kate got into the backseat.
Taylor sighed.
"Do I want to know?" Dean asked.
Kate sat forward. "This punk ass kid is trying to be a bully."
Dean stifled a laugh. "Punk ass kid, huh?"
Kate nodded. "He came up and said stuff to Taylor outside and left a nasty note in my locker."
Taylor shrugged. "He does that. If we ignore him he will stop."
Kate flopped back. "Or I can kick his butt."
Dean turned around and looked at her. "You can't do that."
Kate crossed her arms. "Why not?"
"You could actually kick his butt and then people wound wonder how you were able to take down someone twice your size. Taylor is right, ignore him. If he keeps it up, let me know and I'll kick his ass." Dean said.
Kate smiled in satisfaction.
"No more compelling him either." Taylor said and looked back at her.
Dean raised an eyebrow.
Kate's mouth dropped open. "I barely compelled him."
Dean reached back and gave Kate a half hearted swat to the leg. "Don't compel other kids."
"All I did was tell him to trip." Kate said. She saw Dean's face. "But I wont compel him. However, if he touches me I'm going to end the issue."
Dean chuckled. "Just don't swing first."
Kate shrugged and gave Taylor a satisfied look.
Taylor rubbed his face. "Luis is after me. I want to handle this. I want her to ignore it for now."
Dean made eye contact with Kate. "I support him with that."
Kate frowned. "Fine."
Dean winked at her and pulled away from the school. "By the way, Jo and Ellen are at the house. Ellen decided to stick around for a few more hours."
Kate squealed.
Taylor and Dean both cringed at the sound.
"Do either of you have homework?" Dean asked.
Kate bit her thumb nail. "I have a little bit."
"So when we get home, go to the table. I'll get you a snack and we can get that out of the way so you can spend the rest of the afternoon visiting and doing research about that symbol." Dean said.
Kate was buzzing with excitement.
Dean was silent for a moment. "And Kate..."
Kate looked up. "Yes?"
"If you try healing her, I will know." Dean said.
Kate scoffed. "You are only grouchy about that because I wasn't around when you were young and dumb."
Dean gave her a half grin. "Just please behave yourself."
Kate fluttered her eye lashes. "Of course."
"Oh, we can talk to each other without talking." Taylor said.
Dean looked at him. "What?"
"Like pushing an idea into someone's head but it is a whole lot easier." Taylor said. He paused as Kate said something. "She just told me that I was a nark and we can no longer use it against you, as she had planned to do."
Kate gasped. "That isn't what I said!"
Taylor grinned. "He will never know that."
Dean shook his head. They acted like siblings. "So what, Sammy and I can do that."
Kate nodded. "Which is creepy."
"Nah, when you spend your life in a motel room with someone, you learn how to communicate without talking." Dean said.
Kate rolled her eyes. "Back in your day you had to walk up hill both ways too."
Dean reached back and flicked her. "Sass."
Kate grinned. "This is my loveable sass though."
Dean pulled into Bobby's drive. "Just keep it that way."
When they got out. Kate gave Dean a big hug before sprinting into the house.
Taylor opened his door and rested his elbows over the top of it. "I never know if I should be glad she is back to normal or terrified."
Dean chuckled. "That is very well put." He tapped the hood of the car and motioned for Taylor to go inside.
Kate hugged Ellen and then Jo. She felt someone flick the back of her ear and glared at Dean. "I'm just hugging her."
Dean narrowed his eyes. "Watch yourself."
Jo raised a brow.
Kate whispered. "I'm not allowed to heal you."
Jo blushed. "Oh."
Kate gave her a cheeky grin. "Yet."
Dean stepped back into the hallway. "I will duct tape your hands."
Kate threw her hands up dramatically. "Just a hug!"
Dean opened the fridge. "What do you want for snack?"
Kate knelt on the chair and reached for Dean's glass. "Is this apple juice?"
Dean grabbed the glass. "No."
"Why are you day drinking?" Kate said with a smirk.
Dean drank the rest of the liquid. "You."
Kate got her homework out. "It makes you less grumpy, suits me."
Dean ran his tongue across his teeth. "Keep it up, you'll get thrown in the pond again."
Kate opened her folder. "Hmm, sorry. Can't. I have homework to do."
Dean grabbed two apples and sat them on the table. He ruffled Kate's hair and gave her a kiss on the top of the head. "Let me know if you need any help."
Ellen heard the exchange from Bobby's office and couldn't help the smile that was forming on her face. "She knows just what buttons to push, doesn't she?"
Bobby nodded. "Oh and he loves it. He has someone to bicker with that is an even match."
Ellen snorted. "I wouldn't call that even."
Bobby looked up from the book on his desk. "No, but don't tell him that."
