Short chapter. In a writing slump for a few days.

Dean opened the motel room door and used his elbow to push it while he balanced food and drinks in his hands. He stumbled back when the door roughly slammed in his face. A few seconds later the door was ripped open and Taylor looked at him with a white face.

"I'm so sorry. I was asleep and it was a reflex." Taylor said.

Dean motioned for him to grab some of the items. "Did you just shut it with your mind?"

"I flicked my hand." Taylor said.

"Kid, relax. You woke up to someone stumbling around with the door. You're good." Dean said.

Taylor relaxed. "Oh, I see the note now."

Kate yawned and stretched. She rolled over to sit up and groaned.

Dean handed her a bag. "Look alive, we need to leave very soon."

Kate knelt next to her pallet and unwrapped a sandwich. "Did something happen?"

"Angel dude showed up." Dean said. "Said we need to get a move on."

"What does he look like?" Kate asked

"I don't know." Dean said. "Weird."

Kate got up and looked around for her sketch pad. She held the sandwich between her teeth and held up a page for Dean to look at.

"Huh, yeah that is him." Dean said.

Kate put the paper down. "I think Aphrim was trying to tell me this guy was okay."

"I didn't think angels would look like normal humans." Taylor said.

Dean shrugged.

Kate swallowed. "I think they take over a human body like a demon does. I don't think they really look like this."

Dean put everything back in his duffle. "Don't make me unpack this on the last leg of the trip."

Kate rolled her eyes. "You know, I have five different comebacks to that but I'm not even going to say them."

Dean ruffled her hair. "Well, I found what works on you."

Taylor got his own stuff together. "I am sorry about last night. I let my temper flare and that burst of light had to be painful."

Dean nodded. "Clean slate."

Kate chewed her nails. "I'm sorry too."

"So, either of you want to tell me what sparked that?" Dean said.

Taylor sat down on the bed and held Liam. "David is still bothering me. I'm still having dreams but he isn't bothering me in person. She kind of wanted to know what he did to me and I told her to stop asking about it. We were arguing because she wants to help but I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to talk about it with anyone. John said I didn't have to. When I think about it I get really angry."

Dean looked at Kate.

Kate frowned. "I should have dropped it. I just felt like he was hiding it and needed help. That was the most of it. The rest was just us being annoyed and being petty."

"If you two are going to argue, do it out loud. Then, I can stop you before you try to blow the car up. Arguments aren't always bad. Sam and I argue and always have. There is just a line to be drawn there." Dean said.

Kate threw her trash away. "You and the darn life lessons."

Dean nudged her. "I've been trying to save your hide since you showed up but you are determined."

Taylor jumped when he heard a flutter.

"You must leave." Castiel said.

Dean flinched. "Use a damn door."

Castiel turned his eyes to Dean.

Dean bit his tongue. Pissing off an angel probably wasn't a good idea.

Castiel looked down as he felt something wrapping around him.

Kate hugged him around his middle and looked up at him.

"What is this?" Castiel said.

"I'm hugging you." Kate said.

"Kate." Dean warned.

Kate shrugged. "Aphrim thought he was a good guy and he was supposed to pull your soul from hell. I like him."

"He isn't a kitten, Kate." Dean said.

Kate sighed. "Fine." She let Castiel go and went to pack her stuff.

"How much time do we have?" Dean asked.

"Not much. I will stand watch until you leave." Castiel said.

Kate raised an eyebrow. "See, he is nice." She looked back to the angel. "While you are waiting, would you mind telling us what you know?"

Castiel tilted his head. "That would take eons."

Kate rolled her eyes. "About us."

Castiel tilted his head the other way.

"Are we Nephilian?" Kate clarified.

"Yes."

Kate stared at him. "And?"

Dean smirked.

"Can you enlighten me a little bit on what that means?" Kate tried again.

Castiel got a distant look on his face. He approached her and touched her forehead before Dean could react.

"Hey!" Dean yelled.

Kate stumbled back. "Whoa." She had been given a ton of information from a touch. "Wait.. aw man. Really?"

Castiel simply looked around the room.

"Kate." Dean said.

"We are mutated Nephilim." Kate said.

Taylor rubbed his face. "But we aren't. To make a Nephilim, you have someone that is half human and half angel. Right?"

"Correct." Castiel said.

"Synthetic Nephilim." Kate said.

Dean sighed. "Are they in danger?"

"Grave." Castiel stated.

"Why?" Taylor asked.

Castiel regarded the children in front of him. They seemed harmless but he could see the power building. "Nephilim are more powerful than an angel. The human soul is an immense source of power. Nephilian are unknown."

"We aren't that powerful." Kate said.

Castiel shifted his gaze to her. "You will be."

Dean scratched the back of his head. With the amount of trouble they found themselves in as normal kids, he shuddered to think of what they could do at max power.

"You are right to worry." Castiel said as he looked at Dean.

Dean's eyes got wide. "Stay out of my head."

Kate gave Dean a sad look. "You are worried?"

Castiel took over. "If a Nephilian was influenced by a dark force, the results would be catastrophic."

Dean pulled her into a hug. "You guys are good kids. I think that having good morals and knowing where you belong would prevent that."

Castiel vanished for a moment before returning. "Leave."

Kate grabbed the kittens and her backpack. She walked right behind Dean and quickly got into the car. She took her duffle from Taylor and shoved it to the floorboard.

Taylor put his duffle in the trunk and got into the front seat.

Dean spoke to Castiel for a minute before getting into the car and putting distance between them and the motel. "Absolutely no abilities until we get to the bat cave. No dream walking or talking in your heads. Nothing. We cannot attract attention to ourselves."

Kate and Taylor voiced their agreement.

Taylor flipped through a book and found a section to read.

Kate doodled but her mind was elsewhere. "Dean?"

"Yeah?" Dean said.

Kate sighed. "If I ask you something, can you promise to tell the truth?"

Dean tapped his fingers against the steering wheel. "Yes."

"Do you ever wish I hadn't stayed?" Kate asked.

Dean looked in the rearview mirror. "Hey, why would you ask that?"

Kate chewed her pencil. "You were almost free."

"We have had this talk before. You know that I'm glad you are here. I could have left but chose to stick around." Dean said.

Taylor stopped reading and listened.

"Well, I am bad at controlling myself and we are on the run right now. I'm a nuke." Kate said.

"Kid, you are my nuke. No other hunter can claim they are buddies with not one, but two Nephilian. They wouldn't even know what that word meant. This isn't the first time I've been on the run. Why are you worried?" Dean asked.

Kate looked out the window. "I just feel guilty."

"About last night?"

"Yeah."

"Katie, you should know by now that you have been given a clean slate." Dean said.

"I know that. I just keep saying and doing things."

Dean shook his head. "You are a kid. That is your job. I would rather be goofing off but you have to learn from mistakes. You'll have so many stories to tell your future bratty kids."

Kate smiled. "I think you mean bratty nieces and nephews."

Dean scoffed. "Taylor, that would have to be you. I don't think the world would survive more Winchester kids."

Taylor turned to look at Kate. "We could always adopt them."

Kate grinned. "How is adoption workin' out for ya' Dean?"

Dean laughed. "Great."

Sam got closer to Jess and they enjoyed spending time together. He had Kate's vision in the back of his mind but didn't dwell on it. "Hey, Jess. My sister is wanting to do a report on some kind of lore. I was thinking about looking at the library to see if I can find any old books that might pique her interest."

Jess smiled. "Sam, you are such a good brother."

Sam blushed. "Here I was just trying to con you into hanging out with me."

Jess kissed his cheek.

Sam's eyes widened and he turned red.

"Which library?" Jess asked.

Sam regained his thoughts. "Uh, suggestions?"

"I've got a few." Jess said and took Sam's hand. She was used to guys like Brady but Sam was different. He was sweet and a little awkward at times. "So, what type of lore?"

Sam scrambled for an explanation. "I think religious or something like that."

"Smart girl." Jess said."

Bobby drove down to the school to let them know that Kate and Taylor would be absent. He didn't know how long but needed a decent excuse.

Mrs. Ray smiled and welcomed Bobby into the office. "What can I do for you?"

Bobby rubbed the back of his head. "Some family related stuff has come up and Kate and Taylor will be missing a bit of school. I was wondering if I would be able to get some of their work so they don't fall behind."

Mrs. Ray watched Bobby before whispering. "Is it about what happened to Taylor's family?"

Bobby said a silent thank you that Mrs. Ray was a busybody. "Yes. I'm not at liberty to say anything but I'd like them to continue learning while we take this time to deal with this."

"Absolutely. I'll just send a note to their teachers. I would think that you could pick things up by the end of the day or tomorrow."

"Thank you, ma'am." Bobby said. He put his cap on as he walked out of the school. That exchange had been far easier than he thought it would be. Of course, if they were gone too long, he'd need a better excuse.

Dean drove until Kate announced she needed a bathroom break. He shook his head as he remembered Sam being the reason for every bathroom break they took from the time he was out of diapers until age 14. "Hurry up."

Taylor let the kittens run around in the grass for a bit and flopped back to rest on the ground.

Dean and Taylor both jumped when Millie hissed and spat.

Taylor sat up quickly.

A moment later, Castiel appeared.

Dean looked shocked. "Can they see you?"

Castiel regarded the kittens. "Yes."

Millie calmed down and let Taylor put her back into the car.

"Do all animals have the ability to see angels?" Taylor asked.

Castiel glanced at him. "I don't have time to answer questions. When you arrive at the bunker, pray to me and I'll be able to enter. There, I will shield you from other angels."

Kate ran back to the car. "Hi!"

Castiel looked at her for a moment before vanishing again.

Kate frowned. "I don't think his social skills are very good."

Dean didn't want to admit it but the kittens' ability to see angelic beings could prove helpful.

Several hours later, Dean pulled the Impala into the tunnel of the bunker.

Taylor got out to open the garage doors.

"Make sure doors stay closed inside the bunker. I don't want those two getting into anything." Dean said as he pointed to the kittens.

Kate carried their box toward the kitchen. "They will be perfect angels."

"Speaking of which," Dean said. He said a silent, quite awkward pray to Castiel. He jumped when the man showed up two feet behind him.

Kate grinned. "You are jumpy."

Dean glared at her. "I'm not used to this crap."

Castiel looked around the hallway. "I'll show you some better warding as well."

Taylor asked how Castiel was going to shield them.

"I must carve markings onto your ribs." Castiel said.

"No." Dean said, gruffly.

"If the wrong angel finds you, they will kill you. That is, if you are lucky. If you are unlucky, they will take you to heaven and run experiments on you." Castiel said.

Dean blanched "How exactly does one carve something onto another's ribs?"

Castiel reached out his hand and touched Dean's head.

Dean crumbled to the ground and growled in pain.

Kate ran to him. "Stop!"

Castiel removed his hand. "It is done."

Dean took a deep breath and felt of his chest. "A little warning next time!"

Kate licked her lips.

"No, they are just kids." Dean said.

Castiel shrugged. "It will be less painful for them with their abilities."

Kate stepped closer to him. "Do it."

Castiel had touched her head and etched the Enochian symbols into her ribs before Dean could react.

Kate whimpered and hit the ground.

Dean scooped her up. "Are you okay?"

Kate nodded. "Yeah."

Taylor approached.

Castiel etched his ribs and let him go. "Now, you are unable to be tracked by angels."

"How were they tracking us before?" Dean asked.

Castiel merely stared at him.

"Oh, right. They are angels." Dean grumbled.

"What if you need to find us?" Kate asked.

"You can pray to me" Castiel said. "I can no longer track you without a talisman or device."

Kate tilted her head. "Like a GPS chip?"

"Yes." Castiel said. "I'll return with something."

Dean was annoyed with how often the angel seemed to just vanish. He was in the middle of forming a disgruntled thought when Castiel returned. "Dude, personal space."

Castiel stepped away from Dean and handed Kate and Taylor each a pendant. He turned to Dean. "If you do not have this with you, I will not be able to find you without direction."

Dean nodded. "No more dropping in while I'm in the shower."

Castiel didn't respond.

Dean put the pendant in his pocket. "You two are going to need charm bracelets."

"Not as inconspicuous anymore." Kate said and looked at the pendants on her necklace.

Castiel walked toward the garage. "I need to see the grace."

Dean followed. "The kids put it in a jar."

"What do we do with it?" Kate asked. When she didn't get an answer she sighed and waited with Taylor.

"They will need this." Castiel said as he studied the trapped grace.

"I thought they had enough with the other stuff." Dean said.

"They respond better than we originally thought. This is good for them but also makes them a bigger target."

Dean felt a pit grow in his stomach. "When you say powerful, are we talking demon level power?"

Castiel touched his fingers to Dean's forehead to show him the possibilities.

Dean jumped back. He felt his hands start to sweat. "They are kids. They aren't that."

Castiel walked back to the hallway. "If they are influenced negatively, they will be."

"Some of that stuff was good." Dean said.

Castiel put the jars on the table. "Yes."

"When do we use that stuff?" Kate asked.

Castiel studied the jars. "Not yet. You will become quite ill if you take on too much. However, time is not on your side and it is prudent to put the sickness behind you."

"Why would it make us sick? The original grace wasn't supposed to." Taylor said.

Castiel seemed annoyed. "The original grace has been exposed to your family for centuries."

"Wait, so Dean has been exposed?" Kate asked.

Castiel touched her head.

Kate gasped and stared at Dean. She grinned and jumped into his arms.

"What is it?"

"I can heal you!" Kate said.

Dean blinked. "We know that already."

Kate looked to Castiel. "Correct me if I'm wrong?"

Castiel nodded.

"When he touched us, he studied us. You gave me blood when I got attacked. Each time something is introduced to me, my body reacts to it. The demon blood from when I was a baby reacted and now I'm toxic to demons. Your blood helped me so my body reacts well to it." She took off running to the car and grabbed a small kit. "Can I try it?"

Dean stopped her. "What?"

Kate rolled her eyes. "Just let me show you." She handed a syringe to Dean. "Draw some of my blood."

Dean sighed but drew out a few drops.

Kate took the syringe and held it up to the light. "Let me see your hand."

Dean pulled his arm back. "Why?"

Kate pointed to his palm. "Cut your hand."

Dean furrowed his brows. "I don't like where this is headed." He pulled his knife out and sliced part of his hand.

Kate found a puffy vein on his arm and jabbed him.

Dean swatted her hand away. "Now explain. Oh." He watched the cut on his hand start to heal. "Oh!"

Taylor gasped.

Castiel stepped in. "You must be careful. Like with Sam, your blood may be toxic to some. Do not use this method often as Dean may develop a reaction to it."

Dean scoffed. "You could have lead with that."

Kate spun in circles, excitedly. "If you are on a hunt and are badly injured, you could use this. If you are okay enough to get back to us, we can heal you the normal way."

Dean raised an eyebrow. "The normal way is a hospital and a boatload of pain killers."

Kate scrunched her nose. "So, could Taylor heal Sam since he doesn't have demon blood? Or would Sam's demon blood cause issues? OH! Can I cure Sam like you cure allergies?"

Castiel put his hand up. "I do not know everything."

Kate skipped over to him and wrapped her arms around him. "We have a lot of questions about this stuff. Will you help us figure it out?"

Castiel awkwardly patted her head. "I'll return."

Kate's arms crossed on top of each other as the angel disappeared. "Rude."

Dean stared at his hand. He had a pink line that looked like a cat had scratched him but it was leagues away from the gash that had been there before.

Taylor shifted. "I left the microscope at the house or we could check a few things out."

Dean winked. "You know what this place has?"

Taylor brightened. "A lab!"

Dean yelled, "Do not do anything aside from look at stuff." as they ran down the hallway.

Kate turned and gave him a thumbs up.

Dean unloaded the car and put the food away. He was still reeling from the influx of information and change of pace. He couldn't tell anyone outside of the family about what Kate had done. If anyone found out her blood had healing properties, they'd drain her. The bunker was exciting the last time he was there. He had Bobby and even John. This time, it was just him and the kids. The magnitude of what Castiel had shown him was sinking in and he needed a drink.

Taylor slid into the kitchen. "Can we have some of your blood?"

Dean held his arm out. "Don't use more than a drop or two. Make sure Kate knows I'm not in the mood for any of her technicalities."

Taylor grinned. "Okay."

Dean leaned back in his chair once Taylor left. He saw Millie and Liam running around and chuckled to himself. A hunter, two kittens and two Nephilian in a bunker; it sounded like a bad joke. He dug his phone from his pants pocket and dialed Bobby's number. "Hey, Bobby."

"Hey, son. Did you make it?"

Dean yawned. "Yes. Castiel showed up and carved angel blocking symbols into our ribs and showed Kate how to heal me with her blood."

Bobby put his book down. "He did what?"

Dean put the beer bottle down. "We are invisible to angels."

Bobby rubbed his face. "Didn't Kate already know how to heal you?"

"Yes but this was just a few drops of blood. Zipped me up like they do when they get cut. Allbeit, not as good but she didn't have to lay a hand on me." Dean said.

Bobby sighed. "Makes you wonder how things will be when they are at full power."

Dean sat forward and rested his elbows on the table. "About that."
