Author's note: College has started again along with all the other chaos in my life. I may post every day, I may post once a week. It depends. If I go a few days, don't assume a demon got me. I'm probably just crying into a Chemistry textbook.

John poured himself a drink and found a comfortable chair. He propped his feet up on another chair and swirled the whiskey inside the glass. He took a slow sip and leaned his head back. He didn't want to be trapped more than anyone else did but he also wanted to keep both kids safe. He heard a shrill screech and shook his head. He made a personal bet on which one of them was going to get injured first.
Kate screeched when Dean grabbed her and slid her across the floor. She lost her balance and caught herself on her knees. She tried to scramble to him but the floor was slippery.
Taylor threw Kate a rope and pulled her back.
Kate jumped on Dean's back and smeared soapy water on his face. "Jerk."
Dean shrugged her off of him and wiped his face. "Let me show you how to do it." He got a running start and slid down the hallway on his feet. He stumbled when the suds ran out and caught himself on the wall.
Kate copied him and crashed into him. "This is awesome."
Taylor nudged Caleb. "Your turn."
Caleb threw some more water on the floor and slid toward Kate and Dean.
Taylor did the same but slid on his stomach and took out Kate's legs, causing her to fall on him.
Kate giggled. She slid the other way and stopped at the wall.
John continued to savor his drink. Periodically he heard a splat and an accompanied groan but mostly he just heard laughing. The night that Caleb and Dean had discovered the suds trick, John had gotten back from a long hunt. Caleb's dad was missing and it had been one depressing thing after the other. The boys didn't know it and he wasn't going to tell them, but he had seen what they were doing long before he intervened. At the time he thought they needed to act like fools for a little bit. It wasn't until Sam got hurt that he had to step in. Listening to the chaos from across the bunker was a good reminder. After the house incident, they all needed to act like fools.
Dean helped Caleb up from a hard fall. "You'll be thanking me tomorrow."
Caleb rubbed his elbow. "We are just taller now so the floor is a long way down."
Dean clapped him on the back. "That may be it."
Kate ran and swept Taylor's legs from under him. "Hey, this would be good for training."
"In case we need to fight a yeti on ice?" Taylor asked.
Dean grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled him up. "Mud is slippery."
Kate grabbed a cup of clean water and tossed it in their faces. "Look it is raining."
Dean pulled his t-shirt off to try to wipe his face but it was soaked. He twisted it and caught the back of her leg with the end of the shirt.
Kate grabbed her leg. "That hurt!"
"So do vamp fangs." Dean said.
Taylor took off running down the other hallway, barely managing to catch himself on the kitchen doorway to retrieve the cookies he had put in the oven.
John heard footsteps and the sound of water dripping.
"I brought you cookies." Taylor said.
John looked at the floor.
"Here. Take these. I'll clean this up." Taylor said.
John shook his head. "Thanks for these."
Taylor returned with a towel and backed his way out of the library, drying the floor as he went. He put the rest of the cookies on a plate and went back to the others. "Nearly forgot I put these in."
Kate dunked her hands in a clean water bucket and dried them. She picked up a cookie and bit into it.
Dean did the same and handed one to Caleb.
Caleb raised an eyebrow.
"I told him you were pretty upset about the lack of cookies in that house." Dean said.
Caleb snorted. "Jackass." He took a bite. "These are good."
Kate swatted his hand away from the plate. "One at a time."
Caleb grabbed her by the wrists and ankles and swung her so she'd slide down the hallway on her back.
Kate stopped sliding. "That is mean!"
Caleb winked and grabbed two more cookies. He braced himself to combat the hip check he knew he was about to get.
Kate slid into Caleb's side. "You're like a brick wall."
"Pure muscle." Caleb said with a smirk.
John opened the file that Aphrim had given him. They needed to know what each kid was capable of but they also didn't need Naomi and her goons to catch wind of anything. He read through a document and rubbed his chin. They were aware that they were all related in one way or the other but the connection seemed finite. Aphrim had been observing the families for a few generations and had a better idea of how they had been woven together. None of it was simple. They just didn't know who had been pulling the strings. It was someone with foresight that spanned hundreds of years. If the kids were meant to override the 'original plan' to use Sam and Dean as vessels, then that would take an unimaginable amount of planning. It made him angry that all four of the 'kids' were seemingly pawns in some endgame that higher powers were working toward. Was it necessary that each kid be the kid of a hunter or was that coincidence? Was Jo connected or was she purely just Taylor's half-sister. He thought about how he and Mary met and smiled at the memory. Mary couldn't stand him. He thought she was pretty but she wanted nothing to do with him until one day things just clicked. What made them click?
Dean threw towels to the kids. "Work on drying this up. I'll come back with water and a mop." Dean said.
Kate pushed the suds toward the center of the hallway and helped Taylor contain them. The floor was slick but manageable. "The floor does look sparkly clean."
Caleb smiled. "You have plenty of floor in here to cover."
Dean handed Caleb the mop. "Make yourself useful."
They worked until the hallway wasn't a death trap.
"Don't throw those in the washer. Dish soap and washers don't mix." Taylor said.
The laundry room had a large, two sided sink that they used to rinse the towels first.
Kate got one of the towels soaked with cold water and threw it on Dean.
He sucked in a breath of air and tore it off of his back. He twisted it and flicked it at her.
Kate jumped out of the way. "No! That will kill me."
Dean laughed. "No, it won't. Stop running."
She ran behind Caleb and held onto him.
Caleb turned. "Don't use me as a shield."
Kate shoved Caleb toward Dean and sprinted from the laundry room. She ran down the hallway and into the library.
John raised an eyebrow.
"He's trying to murder me." Kate said and jumped on top of the table.
Dean strolled in. "Coward."
Kate scoffed. "You had soap on you, I was helping you."
"Watch the papers." John said.
Kate looked down and stepped away from them.
Dean twisted the towel again.
"Not in here. You are getting water all over the place." John said.
"Yeah, Kate, not in here." Dean said.
Kate stepped back. "Just walk away."
"You are distracting him from important work, just hop down." Dean said.
Kate shook her head. "You are going to hit me with that."
Dean put the towel behind his back. "I promise not to do anything until we are out of the library."
Kate eyed him and stepped closer to the edge of the table.
Dean raised an eyebrow.
Kate whined. "Give me a head start."
Dean grabbed her around the legs and flipped her over his shoulder. "You let your guard down."
Kate screeched and giggled. "You promised!"
"I'm not doing anything am I?" Dean asked. He waited until he stepped into the hallway to smack the back of her leg.
"Ow! Hey!" Kate screeched.
John shook his head and went back to his drink. Sam and Dean picked at each other over the years but Kate found pure joy out of riling him up. He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. If she ever outgrew that, Dean would wilt.
"Put me down." Kate said.
Dean put her back on her feet. "Even."
Kate stuck her tongue out. "Hardly."
Taylor started a load of towels. "I am going to shower."
"I will after he does." Caleb said.
Taylor smirked. "Come with me."
Caleb entered the bathroom. "Never mind, I'll shower now. I guess this place was made to house a decent amount of people."
"Yep, and the hot water doesn't really go out." Taylor said.
Caleb rubbed the back of his head. His clothes had been ruined from the attack and he was wearing the only set that he had put in the backpack that he left in Dean's car. "Left my duffle in my car."
Taylor shrugged. "Where is your car?"
Caleb sighed. "Parked somewhere."
"Go ahead and shower. I'll figure something out." Taylor said. "Maybe rinse these and I'll throw them in the dryer." He accepted the clothes Caleb threw out of the shower stall and carried them to the laundry room. "Hey, Dean. Do you have anything that would fit Caleb?"
"Uh, maybe some sweat pants and a t-shirt." Dean said. Caleb wasn't that much bigger but he was broad.
"We should round up all kinds of sizes of stuff." Taylor said. "You never know when someone is going to drop in."
Dean sighed. "Literally."
"I know we have to keep this place under wraps but one day we may have to hide someone or something." Taylor said. He started the dryer and leaned against the sink. "It is a bunker, maybe we should stock it better."
"We had planned to. This stay was unplanned." Dean said.
"I know. I just worry." Taylor said.
"Go get your shower. I will be in there in a bit."
Kate worked her fingers through her hair trying to untangle the curls. She hated the curls. She wished her hair was straight. Hunter's needed straight hair or short hair. Curly hair took too much time and care. After the grace, when she was able to speak to her mom, Ruth had taken time to compliment the curls. She said that she had ringlets as a baby and they were hopeful that the curls would stay. Kate remembered the photo of her at Bobby's house when she was a toddler. She had curls then too. Her mom loved her curls. She wasn't a hunter yet. She sighed and untangled her hair. Boys had it easy.
### ###
Sam hadn't been back to his dorm room except to grab clean clothes. He was busy with assignments and Jess. He got a message from his roommate saying that someone had knocked on the door asking for him. Sam tapped his pen against his head. Who would be looking for him? "Who was it?"
Brady messaged back. "I don't know. He didn't give me a name."
Sam packed his books into his bag. "I'll be there in a few minutes."
Brady shrugged and sat his phone down.
Sam let Jess know where he was going and jogged back to his dorm. He opened the stairway door to his floor and the smell of sulfur hit him. His blood ran cold. Demons? He became hyperalert and kept his back to the wall as he made his way to his room. He used his key to inside and shut the door quickly.
Brady looked up. "Did you run here?"
"Uh, yeah. Wasn't sure if the person had something important for me." He eyed Brady. The room was strategically warded. He sat down on his bed and waited for Brady to turn back around. He bent and grabbed the bottle of holy water that was taped to the bottom of the bed. He added some to his water bottle and dropped the container in his backpack. He tilted the water bottle to take a drink and purposefully spilled it. He jumped up. "Great, just great. Ugh, can you hold this? I'm going to get a towel?"
Brady took the water bottle and watched Sam. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I've got a big chemistry assignment that is stressing me out." Sam said. He noted that the water on the outside of the bottle wasn't frying Brady so he wasn't possessed."
"Jess wouldn't be distracting you would she?" Brady teased.
Sam smiled. "She's a good study partner."
Brady smirked. "I bet."
"When I came in, the whole floor smelled like eggs." Sam said.
Brady sighed. "Yeah, some idiots messed with the toilets."
Sam nodded. "Great." Maybe he had jumped the gun on demons. He was far away from hunting. He answered his phone when it rang. "Hey, Jess. Is everything okay?"
"Jess can't come to the phone right now." A deep voice answered.
Sam's hands began to sweat. "Who is this?" He heard Jess scream and his stomach twisted. "Let her go." He looked at Brady and saw his eyes turn black. "How?"
Brady approached Sam and punched him in the face. "Goodnight, Sam."
### ###
Jess shook Sam. "Hey, Sam. Sam!"
Sam jumped out of the chair and looked around wildly. "Jess!"
Jess let him hug her. "Hey, you dosed off and were mumbling in your sleep."
Sam held Jess's head to his chest. "Yeah, it was a bad dream."
Jess rubbed his back. "You're okay. It was just a dream."
Sam sat down on Jess's bed and rubbed his face. The dream had felt real.
Jess sat on one of his legs and melted into his arms. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"No. It was just a bad dream." Sam mumbled.
Jess picked up his phone from the desk. "You got a message."
Sam swallowed. It was from Brady. 'Hey, someone just stopped by asking for you.' His breath hitched and his mind raced. Was the dream a vision? Why was he getting visions again? Wasn't Azazel in a box in John's room?
"Sam?" Jess asked.
"Deja vu." Sam said. He held Jess tighter and tried to figure out a plan. If a demon was on campus and after Jess, he needed to be prepared. He couldn't explain that to her though. She would think he was nuts. Kate had visions of Jess dying the same way that Mary did. They changed it though. The timeline changed. He felt like any move he made would cause the dominos to fall. He sent Kate a message and sat back on the bed.
Jess didn't ask any more questions. She curled into Sam's arms and traced the veins on his hands with her finger.
Kate had a shiver run up her spine and braced herself. She quickly rinsed her hair and turned the shower off. She saw something. She put a towel in her hair and put her pajamas on. She heard the guys' shower still running so she went to find John. "Hey, I think something is up."
John put the paper down. "What is it?"
Kate shifted from foot to foot. I got a weird feeling and saw something.
"What did you see?" John asked.
"It happened so fast. I don't know how to explain it." Kate said.
John patted the table for her to sit down. "Take a moment."
Sam didn't get a response from Kate and decided to just call her.
Kate heard her phone ring from the other room. "I'll get that." She ran to her room and grabbed her phone. "Sam?"
"Hey, Kate." Sam was in a bind. He couldn't speak freely because Jess was with him.
Kate walked back into the library. "It is Sam."
John furrowed his brows.
"I had a weird dream and just thought I'd check in with you guys." Sam said, cryptically.
Kate felt the shiver again. "That is weird. I think I did too."
Sam ran his fingers through Jess's hair. "I'm over at Jess's place. I dozed off and it was just deja vu. No big deal. I miss you guys."
Kate sat down on the table. Sam's tone of voice was off. She put him on speakerphone. "Deja vu can make you feel like you are seeing the future."
Sam closed his eyes, grateful that Kate was quick. "Yep, it sure can."
They were both quiet for a moment as they tried to figure out how to get through the conversation.
John cleared his throat. "Just so you know, she is grounded from using her phone."
Sam furrowed his brows and then realized what that meant. She couldn't use her abilities.
Kate caught on. "Before he takes it, I wanted to talk to you about something. It is personal though."
Sam tapped Jess. "Hold on I'll give you some privacy." He stepped into the hallway and leaned against the wall. "I had a vision that a demon is here and is going to capture Jess."
Kate sighed. "We need better shorthand for this crap. Same as the one I had?"
"No, in the vision Brady messaged me and I left Jess's and when I got to my room, the demon grabbed Jess. Then, when I woke up, Brady messaged me for real." Sam said.
John grimaced. "We are on angel lockdown. No one can get out of the bunker. Castiel sealed it."
Sam cursed under his breath.
"If you don't leave her, a demon can't grab her." Kate said.
"This place isn't warded." Sam said.
John was antsy, wanting to get to Sam. "Keep an eye on her. Stay put. One of us will call you back as soon as possible"
Sam sighed. "Thanks, dad." He went back into the room and sat down beside Jess. "So much family drama."
Jess wrapped her arms around Sam. "That is what family is for." She nudged him toward the bed until he was sitting down. She pushed on his chest.
Sam flopped back onto his back. He didn't have to worry about convincing her to let him stay.
Kate looked at John. "What do we do?"
"You see if Castiel will answer you. I'm going to see if any hunters are out that way." John said.
Kate closed her eyes and prayed to Castiel. She told him what was going on and waited.
"What is going on?" Dean asked.
Kate ran to him to hug him. "Sammy had a vision about Jess and there may be a demon after them."
Dean stiffened. He remembered that they were on lockdown. "Damnit."
John called Bobby. "Do you know anyone out Sam's way?"
Bobby sighed. "What is going on this time?"
"Possible demon activity." John said.
Bobby groaned. He flipped through a notebook with the names of different hunters. "I can call around but I don't think anyone lives out that way."
John pinched the bridge of his nose. "I'll call people too. Thanks, Bobby."
Bobby rubbed his hand down his face and dialed the first number. Somehow, things were more hectic without the crew in the house.
Kate paced back and forth. "I could just use small abilities."
"No." Dean said.
"A lot of people like witches or demons have small abilities and the energy I give off will just look like one of those. I could even just use magic." Kate said.
Dean grabbed her arms and turned her to face him. "Cas said lockdown. I want to be out there kicking down Sam's door but I'm stuck here too."
Kate frowned. "He didn't answer my prayer."
"Sam's a big boy. He knows how to handle a demon." Dean said, although he was also worried.
"He doesn't have anything on him." Kate said.
"Wait. Dad and Bobby are making calls." Dean said.
Kate sighed. "Okay." She left Dean and walked around the library for inspiration.
Taylor and Caleb joined the others after being filled in on the situation.
"A buddy of mine is a couple hours from there." Caleb said. "I don't know if he is home or off hunting."
"Would you mind calling him? We are trying to figure out a plan just in case." John said.
Kate strolled over to a row of books and removed one. She flipped through it and found something that interested her. She slipped out of the library and down the hallway.
Taylor made coffee and finished cleaning up the laundry room. Without powers, he couldn't do much to help.
Caleb got ahold of his buddy and asked him to check in on Sam. He told him that Sam was like a little brother and he'd be pissed if he found out, but he wanted to make sure he was okay. The friend took that excuse and headed toward Stanford.
Sam got a message that said that someone was going to check it out. He relaxed a little. He was trying to get out of the hunting life but it would be a good idea to keep small things in his backpack. He left himself vulnerable and by extension, Jess as well.
An hour ticked by with little word. It was getting late and Caleb was exhausted. He got his bearings in the bunker and walked down the hallways to explore. If he got too lost, he could just yell. He checked out the cars again and marveled at the beauty in design. They weren't practical but they were pretty. He made his way back to the armory and walked inside to check out some of the smaller firearms.
Kate was standing on the edge of a shelf trying to reach a box when she heard someone enter the room. She jumped down and kicked the book under the shelf. "Hi."
Caleb startled. "Hi. Why are you in here?"
"Just looking through stuff." Kate said.
Caleb cocked his head to the side. "What kind of stuff?"
"Weapons and stuff. It would be nice if Sam had something on him." Kate said.
Caleb could see the vein on the side of her neck pulsing. He stepped closer. "Why do you look spooked?"
Kate flinched. "Oh, I was climbing. Dean doesn't like when I climb."
Caleb nodded. He looked at the top shelf. "What is up there that you wanted?"
"I don't know. I just have never seen what is up there." Kate said.
Caleb crouched so his face was level with hers. "Looks like you can read the labels just fine."
Kate blushed. "Yeah, but those are broad terms."
Caleb looked down. "Kate, between you and me, you wouldn't be doing something that isn't Winchester approved, would you?"
Kate paled. "Nope."
"You don't seem confident." Caleb said.
Kate broke. "Look, I'm trying to help Sam. I was just looking through stuff. I saved your life. Don't sell me out. Dean is bad enough but John is here."
Caleb sighed. "That puts me in a hell of a spot."
"It isn't a big deal." Kate assured him.
Caleb studied her. "Then why sneak around?"
Kate bristled. "Stop. Dean does that to me and it is annoying."
"Stop making sure you aren't about to get yourself hurt?" Caleb asked.
Kate looked away from him. "Here, I'll just go out."
Caleb ran his fingers through his hair and sighed. He had a bad feeling. He passed Dean in the hallway and stopped him. "Do you get mad if Kate climbs?"
Dean furrowed his brows. "If she is careful about it, I don't really care. Why?"
Caleb rubbed the back of his head. "I must have just spooked her."
Dean turned to his friend. "What happened?"
"She did save my life. I'm not aiming to get the kid in trouble." Caleb said.
Dean scoffed. "She does that by herself."
"She was in the armory. I walked in and she jumped. She said that you get upset when she climbs and I kind of just scared her." Caleb said.
Dean groaned. "Where was she?"
Caleb pointed to one of the shelves. "She does heal. We climbed all the time as kids."
Dean looked around the area. "If I caught her climbing she would argue me to death. She wouldn't be scared." He looked at the top shelf and then looked down. He looked around the boxes for something she may have stashed. "Did she take anything with her?"
"I don't think so. It isn't a big deal." Caleb said.
Dean looked at him. "With Kate, everything is a big deal." He got on his knees and slid his hand under the shelf. He stuck his hand in a spider's web and cringed. He kept feeling around and touched something. He pulled it out. "A book. A grimoire."
"That would make sense to have around potion stuff." Caleb said.
Dean held the book up. "It isn't dusty. She brought it in here."
"You are John made over." Caleb said.
Dean rolled his eyes. "These kids will do that to you."
Kate busied herself in the laundry room. She swapped over towels and folded the dry ones. She was anxious about Sam and her snafu with Caleb didn't help. She nearly jumped out of her skin when Dean dropped the heavy book on the top of the washer. "Hi."
Dean nodded toward the book. "Why did you have this?"
Kate swallowed.
"Don't you dare lie to my face." Dean said.
Kate licked her lips. "I was just wanting to help Sam."
Dean picked the book up. "With a book of spells? What were you trying to do?"
Kate shrugged. "Some magic has a flashpoint. If it was a decent burst, it could mask an ability."
Dean studied her. "Which one?"
"I didn't have a specific one." Kate said.
"Then why were you scaling the shelving?"
Kate glared at Caleb.
"Don't look at him. He didn't rat you out." Dean said.
"There are a few in there that could work." Kate said.
"Which one?" Dean repeated.
Kate sighed and flipped through the book. "This one would work."
Dean read the spell. "That isn't what you were after."
Kate dropped her shoulders. "Dean, I'm scared for Sam."
"So am I but I'm not looking through a book of dark magic." Dean said.
Kate rolled her eyes. "You wouldn't know what to do with a book of light magic."
Caleb stepped around Dean. "I'm just going to escort her to her room."
Dean pinched the bridge of his nose and waved him off.
Kate flopped down on her bed.
"What was that?" Caleb asked. "You could have dug yourself out of that had you not said that."
"No, I couldn't. He'd just be mad no matter what." Kate said. "That's why I asked you not to tell anyone."
"He figured that out on his own. If you sneak your phone while you're grounded or break curfew, those are times that I'd cover for you." Caleb said.
Kate shuffled her feet across the floor. "There is a spell that could cover abilities. It could work long enough to scan Sam's dorm but it could also work so we could get back to practicing."
Caleb sighed and rubbed the back of his head. "At what cost?"
"What do you mean?" Kate asked.
"Those spells are dark because they require something in return." Caleb said.
Kate sighed deeply but flinched when Dean opened her door.
Dean spoke to Caleb, quietly and then sent him out of the room. He sat down on Kate's bed. "Talk to me."
Kate frowned. "I wasn't going to do a spell by myself. I was sneaky and didn't confess right away so no matter what I say you'll still be mad."
Dean studied her. "What was your plan?"
"To figure out if we could even do the spell in the first place. Sure, part of my head told me to just go for it because I heal and any effects would wear off. It requires blood. I don't just have human blood so the reaction could be pretty different." Kate said.
"Why lie about it?"
"Caleb caught me off guard. I didn't want to be in trouble with you or John. Self-preservation." Kate said.
"Has lying ever worked in your favor?" Dean asked.
"No. Without my abilities, I'm useless. I felt powerful when I was able to help Caleb but Sam is a sitting duck and I can't even dream walk." Kate said.
"We have somebody checking on him. You can't be the hero for every single situation." Dean said.
"If we had a way to disguise the energy waves that we put off, we could help more people. We are all locked in here because Taylor and I are being hunted." Kate said.
"No matter what your goal is, you have to know that magic isn't the way to go." Dean said.
Kate pulled her knees to her chest. "I know."
"If Caleb hadn't caught you, what were you going to do?" Dean asked.
"I don't know."
"So you acted before thinking things through?" Dean asked.
Kate nodded.
Dean sighed and stood up. He took her hand and made her stand up as well. He swatted her twice and let go of her arm.
"Ow." Kate whined.
"You are going to bed because it is late. Tomorrow you can work on an essay about the dangers of magic." Dean said.
"Then what were the smacks for?" Kate asked.
"For that remark you made in the laundry room." Dean said.
Kate sighed. "Okay but would you know what to do with a book on light magic?"
Dean chuckled. "Yes, I would. I'd read it." He pulled back her blanket.
Kate frowned. "I can't sleep if Sam is in danger."
Dean tilted his head toward his bed. "I will update you. He is safe right now. He is probably having the time of his life at Jess's place."
Kate pulled a face.
"If things get hairy, I'll let you know. I'm going to get an earful for letting you off with an essay so you better never sneak another spellbook."
Kate held up her pinky. "I promise never to do that again."
Dean wrapped his pinky around hers. "That is the strongest form of promise and you know how I feel about broken promises."
Kate smiled. "I do."
"Good." Dean said. "Get some sleep."
Kate yawned and turned toward her wall. She pulled her blanket over her face and hummed softly to herself.
Dean met eyes with John and braced himself for John's disapproval.
"She was considering using dark magic?" John asked.
Dean sighed. "She was looking into it."
"So why are you out here?" John asked.
"She knew we'd disapprove but thought it could be a possible way to help Sam or mask their abilities. She realized that her blood in a spell could have unexpected consequences so she will be writing an essay on that tomorrow." Dean said.
"Okay." John said.
"Okay?"
"I'm not going to undermine you. It just cannot be a habit." John said.
"I made my thoughts on repeat offenses well known." Dean said. He left out the bit about pinky promises but John didn't need that detail anyway.
### ###
Sam carefully moved his arm from under Jess's head. He heard rustling in the shared kitchenette and tiptoed toward the sound. He flipped on the light and put his hands up as the barrel of a gun was pointed at him.
"Winchester?" The man asked.
"Who is asking?" Sam asked, tentatively.
"Long story." The man said and continued fumbling around in the cabinets.
"Christo." Sam mumbled.
The man turned around. "What did you say?"
"Nothing." Sam said. He wasn't a demon.
"If you are trying to figure out if I am a demon, I'm not. They are though." He said and tilted his head toward the window.
Sam looked outside and swallowed hard. "Mind filling me in?"
The man found what he was looking for and looked at Sam. "Caleb and your dad asked me to check in on you. Said there might be a demon here. So, here I am."
"That isn't just a demon." Sam said and motioned to the small gathering of people outside.
"Ya think?" The man bit.
Sam checked on Jess again. "What do you have on you?"
The man held up a knife and his gun. "Bastards were after me and got my duffle away from me." He pointed to a small salt shaker. "That is all this place has?"
Sam shrugged. "I don't know."
"Great. I didn't sign up for this. What'd you do to piss those guys off?" The man asked.
Sam put his arm over his eyes as a bright light appeared outside and bathed the demons in blinding rays. The light vanished and left people looking around outside like they had no idea where they were.
The man looked outside. "What was that? Are they?"
"No longer possessed by the looks of it." Sam said. He assumed the light was angelic but it was weird.
"I'm out of here." The man said. He handed Sam the salt. "Good luck with college, kid."
Sam was dumbfounded. Were all the demons gone? Was Jess no longer in danger? Why were they all there? Was the light from Kate or Taylor? What about Castiel? He made a salt line across the floor by Jess's door. He worked his arm back under her head and stared at the ceiling. Was this a vision?
