Hellen reported back to Abaddon. "My plan worked. You have a new contact. The daughter is connected to the Winchesters through Sam, John's second son. The mother and daughter have a strained relationship so nothing should seem amiss to the girl."

Abaddon wasn't impressed but agreed to the plan. She wanted the entire family burned to the ground. "Do not disappoint me again."

(Bobby's house.)

Jess got another phone call early the next morning. "Hello?"

"Jessica, dear." Martha slurred.

Jess shook Sam. "Hey, mom."

Sam sat up quickly and listened.

"We have set sail again. You really should have come with us." Martha said.

"I know, mom. I'm glad you're having a good time." Jess said, flatly. She suffered through the conversation and threw her phone when she hung up.

Sam winced. "Cas should be able to grab her."

Jessica got up and paced. She caught her toe on the leg of the bed and yelped, holding her foot.

Sam pulled her to sit on his lap. He hugged her and checked her foot. "That looks painful."

Jess broke down into tears. It did hurt but she was just very tired. She was angry and hurt.

Sam patted her leg. "Let's go upstairs. One of the kids can fix that."

Jess tried to protest being carried up the stairs but gave up when Sam ignored her.

Sam sat her down in one of the kitchen chairs and gave her an icepack. He gently tapped on Kate and Taylor's door and opened it. "Kate?"

Kate stirred. "Huh?"

"Jess hurt her foot. Do you think you could fix it?" Sam asked.

Kate rolled over and groaned loudly. She slowly got up and tried to work the stiffness out of her legs.

Sam eyed her. "Dad?"

Kate gave him a sour look. "Stupid switches."

"What did you do?" Sam asked, slightly amused.

Kate's cheeks turned pink. "Ask him, I'm sure his version is more entertaining than mine." She scooped Millie up and carried her down the stairs. She yawned. "What is wrong with your foot?"

Jess showed her.

Kate cringed. Two of her toes were quickly bruising and swelling. She prodded them. "They look broken to me." She hovered her hand over Jess's foot and held it there until Jess pulled her foot back. "Better?"

Jess wiggled her toes. "Thank you."

Kate asked what happened and then rolled her eyes. "Man, you are lucky Sam is such a sweetheart. I can't even look in the mirror and give myself a dirty look anymore without somebody trying to whack me."

Jess chuckled, knowing that Kate was joking.

John cleared his throat loudly.

Kate slowly turned around. "You have the worst timing."

John shook his head. "What happened to your foot?"

Kate smirked. "She kicked the bed and broke her toes."

Jess smacked Kate's arm. "I was walking back and forth and caught my toes on the leg of the bed."

Kate was amused that Jess was a little intimidated by John, yet untouchable. It gave Kate someone to pick at and enjoy their reactions. It also got Jess's mind off of the bad things.

Jess told John about the phone call and wrote down the details.

"Do you want to be involved in the next part or do you want us to handle it?" John asked.

Jess fidgeted.

"The first part of the plan is to get both of your parents and bring them to a location that is neutral. There, we would try to get your dad's soul back. Things could go wrong or he may not be able to accept his soul." John said.

Jess sighed. "If possible, save my dad. My mom would be too dangerous if returned to normal life. I'll leave the rest for you to decide."

John nodded. He poured himself some coffee and went to Bobby's office to talk to him.

Kate studied Jess. She wondered where Jess's head was at. Obviously, it wasn't in a good place but everyone handled things differently. She chewed on her thumbnail. She moved her hand away from her mouth and sighed. "I need to stop chewing on my nails. They look gross. Yours always look nice."

Jess gave her a small smile. "Try painting them."

"I don't have polish," Kate said.

"I do, silly," Jess said.

Kate knew she had polish. She just wanted to be able to talk to her.

Jess opened the basement door. "Come on, I'll paint them for you."

Kate followed her down and picked out some blue polish. She held her hands out. "How are you feeling?"

Jess clipped some of the rough edges away. "I'm okay, I guess."

"No, you aren't," Kate said with a scoff.

Jess sat down and rested one of Kate's hands on her leg. "I guess I'm not. This is hard. Of course, you know all about that."

"I know I have no room to talk but I am worried." Kate said.

Jess gave her an odd look.

"I'm angry. I'm hurt and I don't always think things through. I don't know if you are like me or if you just handle it better. I don't want you to be more hurt or get sick." Kate said.

Jess slowly painted her nails. "You're a sweet kid."

Kate smiled. "At least someone thinks so."

"You are. You have a lot on your shoulders." Jess said. "I don't know how I handle things. I've never really had to handle something like this before. I have dealt with my mom being a bitch but I wasn't prepared for this."

"Are you taking care of yourself?" Kate asked.

Jess furrowed her eyebrows.

"Eating, sleeping, stuff like that," Kate said.

Jess didn't make eye contact with her.

"Hey, if I have to, you do too." Kate said.

Jess tilted her head. "You have a lovely family to make sure you do all of those things and stay safe."

Kate raised her eyebrows. "I can tell dad."

Jess grabbed her other hand to do that set of nails. "Now why would you go do that?"

"He will make you eat," Kate said with a chuckle.

Jess scrunched her nose. "I don't need anyone to make me eat. My stomach has been unsettled. How about this, I'll make sure to eat if you do the same."

"I've been eating," Kate said.

"I'll eat if you stop getting sassy with your dad," Jess said with a grin.

Kate rolled her eyes. "You're going to starve."

Jess fanned Kate's fingernails. "How do you do that?"

"What do you mean?" Kate asked.

"I have heard stories. Sam and Dean both jump when he even thinks about saying jump. I'm not saying you are disrespectful but you are different. He startles me." Jess said.

"I'm a slow learner," Kate said.

"My dad raised his voice at me once when I was little. I wasn't paying attention and ran into the road. I remember being so heartbroken." Jess said.

Kate looked at Jess's bag and asked for stickers for her nails. "I don't like being yelled at. I don't like making people mad. I think it is just my personality. You are a lot more chill than I am."

"Still, you're brave." Jess said.

Kate shrugged. "Some call it brave. Others call it stupid. Dad shouldn't really startle you though. We joke and pick on you but he'd never touch a hair on your head."

"No, I know that." Jess said.

"He is good at scaring the bejeezus out of people. Even other hunters have said so. He is pretty cool though. I mean, he did adopt me." Kate said.

Jess just had her dad on her mind. She wanted him saved but looking back, he really wasn't around that often. He showed up for events but he was usually off golfing or working. He was never warm. Sure, he wasn't harsh the way that John was at times but at least John cared. She knew that she might lose her dad. She knew that she had already lost her mom. Even if her dad survived, that relationship was tarnished. It was always tarnished but how was she supposed to face him? How was he going to act around her? Was he going to disown her or blame her? Would they need to tell him about the supernatural or could they erase his memory? Would he be safe if they did that? What would happen to her mom? Would they come up with a clever story about her falling overboard? What if she hurt John or someone else? She knew that her parents were being used as some kind of trap and that made her sick. She had decided to just let them go, knowing that they could hurt someone. Sam had explained that they couldn't do that because they could be a threat.

Kate got Jess's attention. "You doing okay?"

Jess nodded.

Kate needed to pull her out of her funk. "I am going to mess with Dean today. I'll need your protection or you to take the blame. You are untouchable and I need a shield."

Jess's eyes lit up. "What are you going to do?"

"I had some leftover stamp material. I'm going to trace Millie's paws and leave dirty paw prints on the seat of Dean's car." Kate said.

Jess squeaked excitedly. "Wouldn't he just get mad at Millie? How am I going to take the blame for that?"

Kate shrugged. "We have time to come up with a better plan."

Dean was sitting at the table when Jess and Kate ran up from the basement. He saw the look on both of their faces. Great. If a sister was bad, a sister and a future sister-in-law had to be worse.

(Caleb and April)

"Dad! Can. We. Go. To. Bobby's. Too?" Andy asked as he bounced on the bed.

Caleb flipped him so he landed on his back on the soft pillows. "With that energy? We will be discussing some difficult stuff."

Andy rolled off the bed. "I can play outside."

"Let me talk to John and then I'll let you know," Caleb said with a yawn.

"I can go to Owen's house." Andy said.

"Bud, let me wake up. My coffee hasn't entered my bloodstream yet." Caleb said. Ian had been up most of the night although they weren't sure why.

Andy frowned. He was bored. He knew something was up because someone called his dad a few days before and they were put on lockdown. He wasn't really sure what that meant but he did know it meant no going outside. That sucked. He and Owen had big plans that were put on hold. He wasn't happy about it but, unless he did something bad, his mom and dad didn't make him stay inside. So, whatever was wrong must be really wrong.

Caleb sipped some coffee and called John. "How are things over there?"

John explained how the plan was forming. Dean would need to stay back with Kate because she would easily slip by anyone else. She could slip by Dean but he knew her moves. They needed her out of the way and safe. Since Caleb had a young family and a wife, John didn't want him too involved but he did need the extra man. "You can bring the boys by for a little while. Nothing is happening today."

April got Ian dressed. "I am going to volunteer at the clothing store today. I can take the boys with me when I go."

Caleb didn't have a problem with that. He put a warm hand on April's stomach. He couldn't wait until he could feel Lauren kicking. He couldn't wait to meet her either.

April adored how excited Caleb was. "Now will you admit I'm showing?"

Caleb squinted his eyes. "Maybe."

April kissed him. "Just think, another week and some change and I'll be out of the first trimester."

Caleb couldn't believe it. Time was going by so much faster. "Really, so soon?"

"Yes." April said. "We are almost at the twelve-week mark. Then, thirteen is the second trimester."

Caleb wanted to slow down and speed up time at the same time. He wanted to savor each tiny step but also really wanted to meet his daughter. He hoped she looked like April. April was beautiful. She was perfect in his eyes and the only thing better would be a mini April. Looking at Andy and Ian, April had strong genes. He shook the thoughts away. "Let's get going."

Ian padded out to the truck. He shrieked when Caleb tried to lift him. "Me do!"

Caleb chuckled. "Fine, you do it." He kept his hands behind Ian to catch him if he fell but was impressed by the kid's determination. Everything was 'me do' which was Ian's way of saying 'Let me do it.' He had entered the fun toddler stage of demanding that any and all things be done by himself.

"Uh oh. Terrible twos." April said, lightly.

"No, not yet. He's too little." Caleb said.

"Mama said I was in my terrible twos from one to four." Andy said.

Caleb stifled a life. "Huh, you? Really?"

April smiled. "Mr. Ian has a birthday in September. He will be two. That puts him at almost 22 months." That made her a little sad. She had been in survival mode his first year and a half. How had she missed him growing up so quickly?"

Andy bailed out of the truck as soon as it was turned off. He saw some of the guys standing outside so he went to join them. "Why do you have a big mud puddle?"

"That is a mud pond." Caleb said, surveying the size of the growing swamp.

"A water pipe must have burst. I'm going to get it dug up here in a minute." Bobby said.

April walked over. She saw the intense look that Andy was giving the mud. "Andrew, you better not get mud on those clothes. We aren't staying long and those are the only ones I brought."

Andy frowned. "But mama."

"No. You stay out of the mud." April said, firmly.

Andy sighed and walked away from the mud that looked like it would be really fun to play in. Maybe he could play in it later when he didn't have his 'good clothes' on.

The adults turned their conversation to the plan ahead. Jess was anxious and had to check out. She and Sam walked over to sit on an old car, close enough to hear most of the conversation but far enough away that Jess could breathe.

"Kate knows," Dean said. "She isn't happy about it but she knows why she can't go."

"That has gotta be rough," Caleb said.

Kate walked outside. She was subdued and sad. "What if something goes wrong?"

"We will handle it. Right now, what makes the most sense is this is a trap for you and Sam. Sure, for us too but Hellen would expect you to get hot-headed and show up." John said.

Kate wanted to argue that Hellen could be expecting John, then expect Kate to show up to get John back. It was a vicious circle. They could plan and plan and things still go poorly. She could time travel though. If anything really bad happened, she could just go back and fix it.

Andy rolled a ball to Ian. "You gotta kick it."

Ian tried to do what Andy did but his small legs weren't quite coordinated enough. He got it back to Andy and clapped his hands.

Andy knew he wasn't supposed to be listening to adult conversation. He chose to play with Ian instead. He could tell by everyone's mood that things were bad. He looked toward the house and sighed. He rolled the ball back to Ian and ran after it each time it was thrown back. A particularly wayward throw sent the ball rolling right into the middle of the mud. Andy groaned.

Ian went to go after the ball and was stopped by Andy.

"No. I'll get a stick," Andy said. He crouched at the edge of the mud and reached with a stick to dislodge the ball from the muck. He made contact a few times but the ball was really stuck. He scooted closer and smiled when he made some progress. He almost had it when a weight hit his back, sending him face-first into the mud.

Dean had been grabbing something from his car when he saw Andy trying to get the ball. He was walking over to help when Ian jumped on Andy's back, causing him to fall. He hurried over and grabbed Ian before he jumped in as well. He grabbed Andy by the back of his waistband and hauled him out of the mud. He broke into a fit of laughter after making sure that Andy was okay. He carried him over to the porch by his waistband and deposited him in front of the steps before going back for the ball. He wiped tears of laughter from his eyes with his free hand and looked over to Ian, who was still in his other arm. "Buddy, you and Sam must just have the same ideas."

April saw Andy's clothes and gasped. "Andrew! I told you not to get in the mud!"

"But, mama, it was an accident," Andy said.

Bobby had to turn away so he didn't laugh. Andy might have looked contrite but they couldn't tell from the amount of mud that was caked onto his face.

Dean tossed the muddy ball next to the water hose and walked back around the front of the house to hear Andy getting quite the scolding. He stopped cracking up.

Andy really didn't mean to fall. He didn't want swats for not listening to his mom.

Dean turned Andy around and started laughing again. "I'm not letting you wallop him for this one."

Caleb raised an eyebrow. "Why is that?"

Dean took a deep breath. "I saw what happened. The ball rolled into the mud. Andy was being careful and using a stick. This one." He said and bounced Ian in his arms. "Pushed him in."

Andy looked up at Dean and then his mom. "See, I didn't mean to."

Dean handed Ian to Caleb. "Sam did the same thing to me but it was wet cement. I got my a.. butt handed to me for it."

John snorted.

"I can't let you do that to Andy. Ian jumped on his back." Dean said with a chuckle.

April relaxed. "Oh, Andy."

Andy tried to wipe mud from his face but his arms were covered too.

Caleb let himself crack up. "You can go to the shop. I'll get Andy cleaned up."

Andy slumped. "Are ya gonna take Ian? You'll take him, right?"

April chuckled. "Yes, I'll take him. You could use a break."

Andy shook his hair, slinging mud.

Bobby brought out a towel to get the mud off of Andy's face. "Don't get him cleaned up yet. He might as well help fix the pipe."

Andy grinned.

April tweaked his nose. "I'm sorry you got pushed in."

Andy gave her a smile. "It's okay. Thanks for not swatting me."

"You can thank Dean for that one." April said. She took the keys from Caleb and left with Ian.

Bobby tossed Dean a shovel. "You can go in with him. It looks like you are already muddy."

"Can't Taylor just jiggle it?" Dean asked.

"I tried." Taylor said with a smirk.

Dean scoffed. "You didn't try hard enough."

Taylor acted like he was going to shove Dean in but Dean reacted too quickly and pushed him instead.

Dean laughed. He tossed the shovel to him. "Have fun."

Kate stepped inside. She called Hannah, not being able to get her off her mind. "Hey, how are you?"

Hannah was happy that her friend called. "Great. How are you?"

Kate sighed. She did a test to make sure that Hannah wasn't possessed. "So, some stuff happened. Someone is trying to get to us. They hurt someone. I want you to be extra careful. Call if there is anything weird. I think it might be related to Hellen."

Hannah felt a trickle of fear. "I thought we got rid of her." She whispered.

"I don't know. Just... be careful." Kate said. Her heart ached. Hannah had helped her with the original plan to save her dad. She helped her research and hide things. They had a bond built by trauma.

Hannah talked through things with Kate. "I'm sorry. I'll definitely be careful. I'll tell my mom so she knows something is up."

Kate laid down on her bed and talked with Hannah about normal kid stuff. She talked to her about boys and other things that most twelve-year-old girls talked about. Hannah had retained part of her childhood. Kate hadn't. Kate felt guilty for the parts of Hannah that she helped bring down.

"I've got gymnastics. Kate, if you need anything, let me know. I will do it." Hannah said.

Kate swallowed hard. "Thanks." She knew Hannah wasn't just saying that. If she wanted to go rogue, Hannah would go right along with her. She couldn't though. She put her phone down and rested the side of her face on her pillow. She tucked her arms under the pillow and let herself cry.

Dean went upstairs a while. He tapped on the door facing. "Hey, are you okay?" He sat down on the side of her bed. "Are you crying? Hey, kiddo, talk to me." He said.

Kate turned her face the other way.

Dean rubbed her back. "You can't stay up here, crying alone and then not talk to me."

Kate rolled so she was facing him. She curled up and wiped her face. "Emotions suck."

"Is this just emotions?" Dean asked. He poked her hip. "Remember our talk about not hiding things."

Kate frowned. "Life isn't fair." She let tears fall. "I want everything to stop. I have to stay here and let others fight my battles. I know... I know... I understand why. I just feel like everywhere I go, bad things happen. I talked to Hannah. I told her to be careful. I just feel guilty that she knows about vampires and demons. She doesn't get to be a totally normal kid. She saw things. She helped me do things."

Dean sighed. "When that vampire showed up, she got pulled into it. That wasn't your doing."

"I'm just a magnet for horrible things." Kate said.

"If it makes you feel any better, we all are." Dean said.

Kate sniffled. "I can't stop worrying. What if dad and Caleb and Bobby go help Jess's dad but it is a trap we didn't plan for? What if they get hurt? What if April and Andy and Ian lose Caleb? My heart hurts and in some ways, it is my fault. I didn't mean to cause it but we both know this wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for me. I'm the target and everyone around me is in danger."

Dean pulled her elbow so that she sat up and pulled her to him. "This thing goes back before I was even born. Hell, before dad or Bobby was born."

"I just want to use my abilities and put an end to this." Kate said.

Dean rested his chin on her head. "You can't."

"I know but it doesn't make it any better." Kate said, swallowing a sob.

"I'll be here with you." Dean said. "Sure, I want to go but you are more important."

"Where does it end? When the attacks get worse and more people die? When they start going after Sam and Taylor? At some point, I just have to do what I need to do." Kate said.

"Well, this is not the point." Dean said.

Kate broke down. "Something bad is going to happen. I can feel it. Taylor can feel it. I'm so scared. Dean, if something happens to one of you guys, I'm not going to be okay. I can't lose anyone else."

Dean wrapped his arms around her and let her cry. "What was it that Tessa said? Winchesters don't stay dead."

Kate shuddered. "Dean!"

He rubbed her arm. "I don't know how to help right now. I can just be here and support you but I understand why you are scared. I can crack jokes and offer hugs. That's all I've got."

Kate rested her head on his chest. "I'm going to listen. I'm not going to go rogue. It just makes me feel helpless and hopeless."

Dean could understand that. "One thing at a time. You have to save all of your badass, hellhound exploding, soul trapping, stunts for later."

Kate sniffled.

"Nineteen-year-old you is cool. You can't use all your tricks this early in the game." Dean said.

"That is like me saying you can't blow things up because you may need to when you are thirty," Kate said.

Dean thought about the rocket launcher. "I can do that in a few days, on July 4th. Small explosions."

"I get small explosions?" Kate asked.

"Now, I don't know about that. If I said yes, you'd run with it." Dean said, lightly.

Kate whimpered. "If someone gets hurt, I'm going to heal them. I don't care what anyone says. I just want you to know that."

Dean smirked. "Okay, if someone gets hurt, you can heal them."

"I'm not letting anyone suffer over this," Kate said. "I'll stay safe but I can't let anyone get hurt."

Kate calmed down. She dried her tears and curled back into a ball.

Dean patted her. "Do you want to take a nap?"

Kate nodded.

"If I let you nap, are you going to stay here and not go wandering in dreamland?" Dean asked.

Kate scrunched her nose. "I promise not to look around. I will not intentionally go anywhere."

Dean pulled her blanket up. "I know dad lit you up with a switch. Please don't make me go over that."

Kate grunted and pulled her blanket up further. "Not even I am that stupid."

"I'll come back and check on you," Dean said. He got up and shut the light off. He held the door open for Millie and shut it behind him.

Caleb turned the water hose on and told Andy to stand still.

"But dad, it is too cold!" Andy whined.

Karen took pity on him and tossed Sam a sheet. "Wrap him and bring him around back."

Sam wrapped Andy like a burrito and tossed him over his shoulder.

Andy giggled and screeched. Sam was too tall and he felt like he was on top of the world.

Karen held the door open and pointed to the bedroom.

Sam managed to get his shoes off and carried Andy to the bathroom. He put him down in the dry bathtub and stepped back.

"Sam, I need help. I'm a mummy." Andy said and tried to wiggle his arms free from the sheet.

Sam chuckled and helped Andy.

Caleb took over and helped Andy shed what used to be clothes but was now mostly just mud. He wrapped them in the sheet and gave them to Sam to spray off outside.

John pointed to the spot that Andy left.

Taylor groaned. "I'll just take a bath inside."

John held the water hose. "I don't think Sam can carry you inside."

Taylor gritted his teeth and held his arms out, waiting for the cold water to hit his chest. He turned slowly and finally put his arms down when John decided he was mud-free.

Dean stepped outside and chuckled. "You look cold."

Taylor shot him a glare. "This is your fault."

Dean grinned. "I don't know what you're talking about." He ducked to avoid the wet shirt that was hurled at his head.

Taylor wasn't sure how he was going to get his jeans off without taking his legs with them. They were heavy from the water and stuck to his skin. He took a towel from Karen and wrapped it around his waist, hoping that it helped stop some of the dripping water. He peeled his socks off and left them next to his water-logged shoes.

Dean held the door open for him and smirked as he walked by him. He jerked his arm back and hissed. "Kid, I told you I'd take my belt off if you shocked me."

Taylor had already run by him and up the stairs.

John shook his head and chuckled. "You aren't taking a belt to him."

Dean shook his arm out. "He shocked me."

John shut the water off. "You did push him into that pit."

Dean smiled. "Yeah, he's a pain in the ass at times."

"Sam would have taken the shovel to your head," John said.

Dean rubbed a small scar on the back of his head.

Sam brought Andy's clothes around. "That was a plastic shovel."

"Yeah, but you hit me with the handle," Dean said.

"You lassoed my feet and made me fall and hit my mouth," Sam said.

"You had a loose tooth you wouldn't let us pull. Not after the ground took it out." Dean aid.

Jess listened amusedly. She had asked Kate how she could be so bold, knowing how strict John was. Maybe Sam and Dean wouldn't be so quick to back talk him but little Sam and Dean were hellions.

John left them outside to bicker and went inside to get more coffee. He smiled when Andy walked out of Bobby's room with a pair of Kate's shorts held on his hips by a hairband.

Andy blushed. "I don't have pants."

"We've all been there before," John reassured him.

Karen started lunch. She gave Andy his food first and tossed his clothes into the dryer when Sam brought them inside.

Dean went upstairs to check on Kate. He sat on her bed and put a hand on her shoulder. He relaxed when she stirred and pulled her blanket up. She was just asleep, not lost in some kind of hell. He looked at Millie. He tilted his head and his eyes widened when she did the same thing. He narrowed his eyes. "I'm still not convinced you aren't a familiar."

Millie slowly blinked and rested her head on Kate's arm.

Dean poked the top of her head. He sighed and stood up. "As long as you are the good kind, you and I are okay."
