After being stabbed a gadget while on a mission with Vita, Nanoha perishes in the hospital, needless to say, her friends, specially Fate and Vita, are really hurt. With Vita blaming herself for her death, she can't even bring herself to look at the others, Fate has become unresponsive, Nanoha was her everything so losing her was a huge blow to her psyque.
Hayate and the other Ritters attempt to comfort them 2, but Vita insists she needs to be punished for failing Nanoha, Fate regains her senses and tells Vita to disappear, she doesn't want to look at her right now.
Hayate and Signum jump in to defend Vita, Hayate saying that Fate is being cruel, Signum follows up saying that she is clearly not thinking clearly.
Fate points out that the love of her life is dead, and they expect her to think clearly about this?
Vita barks back and says that Nanoha was important to her too, and to a lot of other people, like Yuuno, Arisa, Suzuka, Hayate, and everyone she met after becoming a mage, Fate is not the only one suffering.
Fate snaps and summons Bardiche, Vita following up by summoning Graf Eisen. Fortunetly Shamal binds the 2, saying that they should not fight in a hospital, and points out that Nanoha would be disappointed in the both of them.
This causes the 2 to break down crying, Hayate doesn't hesitate to embrace the 2, Fate even apologizes to Vita for being mean to her, Vita forgives her, saying that she knows how much it hurts to lose a friend, as she lost good masters in the past.
Before anyone could leave to organize the funeral, Zafira, being a wolf, starts hearing the beeping noises of the machines in Nanoha's room, Fate and Vita rush to the room and see Nanoha sitting up, she looks confused, why she's hooked up to a bunch of machines? She also asks why everyone is crying.
Her friends rush in and group hug her, crying their eyes out, Nanoha asks what happened, Vita says that she got stabbed by a robot and died, but now she's alive somehow.
Shamal wants to run some exams on Nanoha, wanting to figure out how she just healed herself from her wounds. And she finds something really concerning...Nanoha's DNA has changed, but she can't tell what it is exactly so she starts looking up some old archives, and learns that back on earth, there were people who could come back from the dead..as monsters, they are known as Orphnochs, they are extremely powerful beings but are known for having really short life spans, Shamal is terrified because apparently Orphnochs tried to take over the world, but were stopped by a good Orphnoch, Kamen Rider Faiz, the Wolf Orphnoch.
Shamal also worries about the short life span, she doesn't know how much time Nanoha has left to live.
Shamal calls in Fate, Hayate, the Ritters and some of their other friends to tell them the situation, Fate says she doesn't care if Nanoha is a monster, she's still her Nanoha, Hayate remembers watching the show based on true facts regarding the history of Faiz back on earth, good Orphnochs exist, but they're essentially an extinct species now, nobody knows where Faiz is, some theorize that he's already dead.
Vita is beating herself up in her mind, Nanoha turned into a monster and it's her fault, she hopes Nanoha can forgive her for not having her back. Shamal wonders if Nanoha will become a threat, as most Orphnochs hate regular humans, Fate says that there is no way Nanoha would turn her back on humanity.
Chrono says that they need to keep an eye on Nanoha, she might transform into a monster anytime soon, Yuuno says he will help if anything goes wrong, he wonders what type of Orphnoch Nanoha will become.
Zafira asks Shamal if they should tell Nanoha, Shamal wants to but doesn't know if they should, as she doesn't want to traumatize the young girl.
They're interrupted when Fate gets a phone call from Nanoha, the latter is sobbing and is begging for help. Fates rushes to Nanoha's living quarters the fast as she can, Hayate and the others following behind.
Fate busts open the door and goes to Nanoha's room, and she sees that Nanoha had transformed by accident. She was now the Pegasus Orphnoch, a Orphnoch very similar to the Horse Orphnoch, but with wings on it's back, as well as feather decorated armor.
Nanoha is terrified and doesn't know what to do, Fate manages to calm her down with a hug, Nanoha changes back to normal and passes out from the rush of emotions.
Hayate promises fate they will help Nanoha out, and if her life span really is so short..then they will make sure she has the best final years of her life.
This fic is a re-write of Strikers, with Orphnochs instead of Combat Cyborgs. Subaru and Ginga are killed by Jail when they were in high school and turned into Orphnochs Jail could use in his army.
Subaru became the Triceratops Orphnoch while Ginga became the T-Rex Orphnoch.
Jail himself is the Tupuxuara Orphnoch, and can sire other Orphnochs at will. He tried to turn Quint, Megane and Zest into Orphnochs, but only suceeded in turning Zest into one, the Sabertooth Orphnoch.
Nanoha received a major power-up thanks to her new Orphnoch abilities, but she avoids using them because she's afraid that if she overuses them, she will cut her life span short. Her friends are still trying to figure out if her body is degenerating, but are also trying to give her a comfortable life in case it is and they don't know about it.
