"Today is a nice day."
A simple thought.
She was not use to having such simple thoughts in her mind. The normal thing would have been for her to have hundreds of things rushing through her mind at once. Sometimes it would be because she needed to think through a tough decision while most times it was simply because that was how her mind worked.
Her cousins had always tried to help her however they could, but she always eased their worries about her. They had their own things to deal with, so adding anything else to that would make her feel something.
And that would never do.
If I worry them, I would be bringing harm to them. If I feel bad for them, I would be insulting them. Yeah. It's best that I've been keeping my distance from them. They might be sad because of it, but it's best that I don't bring my own troubles towards them.
Voices came from multiple directions, asking for assistance.
As she thought about her loving family, there were multiple people who were asking her for help.
Each voice seemed to be carefree, ignoring what she already had in her petite arms.
Two boxes that were at least the size of her head were stacked on top of her two shoulders. There seemed to be no struggle when it came to carrying them, which may have been the reason as to why others did not seem to be eager to assist her while asking for her help.
"Ah~ She really is a beast~ To be able to carry those boxes without any effort while agreeing to help others..."
"She isn't just muscle either. She is also top at this school. Her attitude is great and she has a pretty face."
"She's perfect in every damn way! It pisses me off! But I can't be mad at her! That pisses me off more!"
The single girl with a rare and simple thought gave no sign that she had heard the comments that came from either side of her. It was amazing in its own right when given the situation.
"Shitokei-senpai, would you like some help with those boxes?"
.
Shitokei Fuji blinked twice before focusing on the boy in front of her.
His gray-brown hair and kind eyes was a dead giveaway that he was one of the few people who she recognized as a kind underclassman. The kind that would gladly help his upperclassman without asking for anything in return.
The boy had always been around to help her when it seemed that others would do nothing for her.
She never minded the way others kept away from her unless they needed her. At the same time, she never minded the way this boy came to help her.
I should tell him at some point that I can't properly thank him. ...Oh, going through my memories, I have told him. That means he is just a nice person and not someone who wishes to use others.
That only made things more awkward.
This would be considering "worrying an underclassman". I have been told that doing something like that would not be good. Adding that into the calculations, it would be even worse considering I gave up on my emotions for these calculations.
"Hm..."
"Is something the matter, Shitokei-senpai?"
"Murakami-kun, I do not want to seem rude to you, and as a general understanding of thing, I can say that it may come out rude. Please keep in mind that I will speak as a calculation person and not one based on emotions."
"I understand. Thank you for telling me...again."
She gave a nod in response.
She was aware that this was exactly the fifth time she had told him that, but she had calculated the possibility that he had forgotten.
"That is good. Now then, an answer to your question: there is nothing the matter. I had only been thinking about how I must be worrying you due to my acceptance of assisting others. What is more..."
There was no need to look at to see if he was paying attention.
"There is no need for you to worry about me. My build and thought process are formed in such a way that I can ascertain that I am meant to help others who cannot do things on their own."
"Does that mean you don't need help? You came down here to the second year floor from the third year floor, didn't you? Carrying those would be hassle for anyone, no matter the build."
"I am having no issue with it."
"Then may I take some of them as a way to be your guide?"
So he went with that reasoning after all.
Fuji had long since calculated how this conversation would go.
Once the underclassman had approached her, she had began her calculations as to what he would say, how he would respond, how his stance would be, and what exact motions he would end up taking.
The end result was exactly what she had calculated.
Under normal circumstances, a person would feel bad for even thinking of doing something like that, but if I make room for something like that then it means my calculations would be pointless. This trade off is fine with me as long as my calculations-
"'As long as my calculations can help others'...right?"
The voice that came from the side had not surprised anyone.
The person seemed to notice that and think nothing of it as they moved forward.
"Fuji-nee, you have that look on your face again. You are letting those calculations get to you again."
.
Murakami watched as the girl from one of his neighboring classes casually moved to grab one if the boxes on his upperclassman's shoulders.
"Hatohara... I didn't know you were close to Shitokei-senpai."
"Hm...?"
The way the girl tilted her head while carrying the box gave him the impression that he had said something wrong.
"Oh, I guess this is fine. Um, Murakami, would you mind getting the other box on her shoulder? Think of this as her taking the offer and I am just saying it out loud for her. ...This is actually pretty heavy."
"Place it back on my shoulder."
"No, no...it's fine. I can manage this. Uh, Murakami..."
"Right, my bad. Sorry for that, Shitokei-senpai. Hatohara."
The girl gave a nod as he reached for the box. What the nod meant, he was unsure of. But he held the box anyway.
The moment he had the box fixed in his arms, the remaining ones were already placed neatly in his upperclassman's arms.
"Don't think too much about it. She is too skilled for the rest of us to think about."
"So even you think so..."
"Yes, but this is coming from someone who lacks skills, so there isn't much to think about. Also..."
The way the girl smiled toward their upperclassman was not what he was expecting.
It seemed as if...
"This is also coming from her cousin who wonders why she decided to come here instead of go with Minoru."
There was a single moment where Murakami's mind had to register what had been said.
His feet stopped moving and his expression was only one of confusion.
After a few more seconds, it had fully hit him, making him catch up to the two girls who had stopped for him.
"He took that rather well, all things considered."
"Mirai."
"Oh...my bad. I said it out loud again, didn't I?"
There was no room for him to speak now.
From his experiences with others, he understood that this was not a form of girl talk. It was a general conversation that had let something out by accident.
"Murakami-kun, what she said is true. She is my cousin. I am rather find of her and her brother, but the both of them can be a bit...troublesome for others. So please forgive any trouble they may end up bringing to you in the future."
"I also want to apologize for any future confusion Fuji-nee brings. It's hard to understand her at times."
"It's nothing...really. Shitokei-senpai usually brings things down to a level we can understand. And Hatohara hasn't done anything that is troublesome, as far as I know. If anything...it would be her classmates who cause the trouble."
"Wet Man is a funny person when you can look passed his strangeness."
"Wet Man? ...Oh, you mean Kirikari."
The strange boy that was also in a neighboring class was well know throughout the school. He was most known on the second year floor for his crossdressing antics and performances he would sometimes out on.
While Murakami would view his classmates as something else, that boy would find a way to go beyond them all.
That had been why he gave no thought about it when that same boy could be seen in the schoolyard with others around him.
The crowd that formed were all upperclassman from a different school who seemed to be messing with the strange boy. They all formed a circle around him while he sat on the ground in a strange C shape that quickly turned into an S shape when one of them seemingly brought their foot down on him.
That was not all he could see from his position by the window.
Along with the group of boys from a different school and the strange boy Hatohara had called "Wet Man", there was another boy there.
"So they are here for him..."
A noise came up next to him as he moved to the window.
"Oh, it looks like Wet Man is down there."
"So a delinquent fight is starting. Stopping that before it goes too far is what is important. I will be right back."
"Uh, Shitokei-senpai... There isn't a need for you to go down there. With that guy there, someone is already on their way. It would be best not to be there when he gets there."
"I did not know this 'Wet Man' was so important that someone would go right away to get him."
"Huh? That isn't what is going on. ...I mean, Kirikari probably does have somebody who would go to help him, but he isn't the guy I was talking about."
"Using only pronouns can mess with explanations."
"Yeah, I guess that is my fault."
The upperclassman nodded her head again. This time Murakami was sure of the meaning of it.
Figuring that he was in the clear as long as he understood his mistake, he turned back to the schoolyard. Others in the floors above and below them must have noticed what was going on as well since more windows were open.
"The guy I'm talking about is that one."
"The delinquent-looking one?"
"Mirai."
"The delinquent-looking one wearing our school uniform?"
"Better."
This girl either had low standards or was being nice to her family.
Murakami decided to think it was the latter and simply moved on.
He confirmed that the person Hatohara was pointing to was indeed the boy he was talking about.
"That would be Taiyōko Kiyoshi. He is in the same class as me. Hatohara, you might have heard some stuff about him."
"I have heard vauge rumors about him, but nothing more than that. From what everyone says...he is a member of the family of soldiers who have defended Japan in national wars many times. Each time they were out out to fight or command, they never saw a loss. Their skills as both commanders as well as real fighters is something that everyone knows about and some envy."
"That's the gist of it."
He noticed how the boy looked up to them after ignoring one of the people surrounding him.
Looks like we were caught staring.
At the same time, the strange S shape also took note of them and quickly stood up before waving over to them.
Looks like we should stop staring.
"Murakami-kun... Hm... Finding the correct words for this might end up with a different meaning. ...Yes, they will definitely end up with a different meaning."
"You can just leave questioning to me for the time being."
Murakami focused back to the two girls while picking up the box once more.
He had realized that he did not know where they were going with the boxes. The offer he had given was to be a guide, but nothing had been told to him about the location.
That was not so much an issue as it was a stray thought. There would be no need to worry as long as his upperclassman knew where to go.
So instead of focusing on that trivial thought, he turned to the younger girl since it seemed that she would be asking a question.
"Murakami, does he pick fights with other schools? That is really the only thing I can think of."
"Actually-"
"That is really the only thing I can think of."
These cousins are really close, he thought while noting how his upperclassman had not reprimanded Hatohara for interrupting. At least they are more sane than other families I've seen.
The two girls still looked over to him for his answer. The older one seemed to only be waiting in general though.
It was likely that she already knew what he would say.
"To be completely honest with you two, Taiyōko does not pick fights. He is aggressive, which can lead to a fight, but he doesn't go around looking for one. The only time he really picked a fight with someone was around the time we first moved here."
"That's right, you are not originally from Mikado City, are you?"
"No, I'm not," he answered. "I was scouted by Border and we had ended up moving to Mikado City. I joined Border not too long ago, so I don't have much to my name yet though. Not that I'm doing this for fame or anything."
"We know. Murakami-kun is too kind of a person for something like that. Which brings the confusion as to why you interact with the people you do. But I will not be judging anyone on who they decide to spend their time with."
"Are you saying that because he is currently helping us or because you don't understand this like that?"
"I will let you figure that out."
It was hard to not think about lack of distance between these two girls.
Going through his memories, Murakami found only one other instance where such a family bond could be seen.
That memory held the reasoning behind his next words.
"Taiyōko does not pick fights, but fights come to find him. After all..."
After all...
"He is too much of a good guy to do anything like that."
.
That is an interesting way to phrase that.
Fuji ran multiple calculations in her head using the new information she had been given.
Form appearances alone, it seemed that this Taiyōko Kiyoshi was an average delinquent who gladly picked figs for the sake of fighting.
Murakami was not the type to lie, so there was no reason to doubt him. That had been why she continued narrowing down possabilites as quickly and efficiently as possible. Reaching a conclusion before others was what she was best at.
She was aware of the look she was getting from Mirai as her calculations continued to narrow themselves down.
I should speed up this process so that she will not worry about me.
That was exactly what she did.
The calculations in her head began narrowing themselves down even more and with more speed. The accuracy of them did not fall in the slightest and she felt as if she could get this done before either one of the two could say anything.
Once it had finished, she had an answer.
"Huh?"
"Eh?"
At least, that was what was supposed to come.
Fuji stopped dead in her tracks, boxes still in her arms.
The look that was coming from Mirai had changed. Instead of worry, she looked to her with surprise and amazement.
Wait a moment... That does not make sense.
"Uh... Fuji-nee? Are you okay?"
Fuji tilted her head at the question.
No, she had just so happened to tilt her head after the question. The question itself was easy to answer.
"Is something wrong?"
"Huh? Oh, not really. It's just...Fuji-nee doesn't really ask questions. She seems to know everything going on, so seeing her confused is just odd."
"Now that you mention it..."
So Murakami-kun did not know. Strange.
Her trivial and excess thoughts ran parallel to the next set of calculations her kind was going through.
Instead of confusing her cousin and underclassman anymore than they already were, she had began her calculations again.
There had never been a time where her calculations had not reached a conclusion before, but there was always a first time for everything.
Every factor that been given to her was always recorded in her head and would not leave until she deleted it from her mind. Those factors were then laid out in her kind before the calculating process even began.
From there, a basic overview of it all went through them all and got rid of the most obvious factors that did not belong. They were never deleted, only put away for later use.
Once the basic layer of everything was finished, the deeper calculations would begin.
Rumors are not trust worthy, but they can still be useful. Not all if them are lies.
Fill in any missing areas with some of those rumors that seem to be accurate to the data gathered. If they fit in at least 30% with the given data, they can be used. Any less will be moved aside. Once this is done, I can remove those unneeded ones from my memory.
Now down the most likely results and check for any blank spots in them. Gather strange occurrences from other results that have been pruned and use them to fill in those blank spots. If they do not fit, return them to those results and wait until a conclusion is reached.
It was a process that happened in her mind and fast enough that it would seem as if she had not done so in the first place.
And then...
"I can't reach a conclusion..."
.
Hatohara and Murakami blinked at the sudden words.
It took a few second for them to realize what those words meant as the girl who said them began walking again.
They moved to catch up.
"Fuji-nee, what do you mean by that? What conclusion were you trying to get to exactly?"
"I was trying to figure out that boy. The who is Murakami-kun's classmate," she said without turning her eyes away from in front of her. "From what Murakami-kun has said...that boy tends to get in fights, without starting fight...doesn't want to fight, yet continues to fight...and enjoys to fight, but gets annoyed with fighting."
"When did I say all of that...?"
"You did not, but what you had said goes with rumors I have heard. It was just a meter of fitting everything together."
"I see..."
"It's best to just go with it, Murakami."
The look of pity Hatohara gave him was overlooked in favor of focusing on the older girl.
Both underclassman wanted to say something, anything to help her, but it was hard to do so when she seemed to be going at her own pace.
"As I was saying, I can't come to a proper conclusion regarding that boy. I reached a few differing results, but nothing that has more than a 30% rate of accuracy."
"It could just be because you are going off of others' words and have not met him yet." Murakami smiled to his upperclassman. "If you want, I can introduce you to him. He and I were asked to help with the upcoming festival."
"So you are indeed close to him."
He chuckled before letting out an amused hum.
"Not necessarily. But he has expressed that he doesn't hate me, so it should be fine."
"Hey punk, pay attention when I am scolding you. Don't think you'll be getting out of this just because you say it was self defense."
A delinquent-looking boy glared over to the school building as a teacher in a tracksuit glared down at him.
All around them were unconscious bodies of a group of boys who had crowded around him. Laying on top of the group of unconscious was a strange boy wearing a wig and a girl's uniform.
But none of those unconscious people were what he was focusing on.
Before they had fallen to the ground, the boy had noticed at hat a lot of attention had gathered to them from the school building. Windows had been opened and whispers were running throughout the building.
But none of that mattered.
What had caught his eye was the trio of two girls and a single boy looking down to them.
That fucking asshole Murakami. He had better not have said any shit about me to those two.
"Hey! I know giving you extra work to do won't do anything, but remember that I can still toss your ass around if I need to!"
A heavy hit landed on top of his head.
The tracksuit teacher had a look of irritation on his face as he held his fist down on the boy's head. Due to the angle they were facing, no one from the school could see the hit and instead could only see his arm moving.
"Taiyōko, self defense is fine and all, but you didn't need to use Kirikari as a weapon to fight them."
"That fucked up idiot has a hard head. If he's not going to bother learning shit then I might as well have out it to good use. Besides, the damn crossdresser looked like he was enjoying it. Idiot was yelling, 'Wee! Wee! Faster, faster! Oh, not that fast, Taiyōko! Nn! Nn! If you go any faster, I might just burst! Aaaahhhh!' It pissed me right the fuck off and so I decided to do an overhead throw for him. Shit for brains is actually pretty light."
"While I can respect the overhead throw, I can't really say I blame you for using him after. But that is for a different matter. I need to deal with you now because you had fought and injured another student."
"Hey, tracksuit moron, take a look at him. He doesn't have any serious injuries."
Another hit came to his skull as the tracksuit teacher looked down to see that it was true.
The boys from a different school were bruised all over, but the crossdressing one from their school seemed to just be sleeping.
"Have to give him credit for being able to sleep..."
"It's weird as fuck. Only my brother could fall asleep in weirder places."
Taiyōko spat one of the unconscious boys after his sentence.
The tracksuit teacher flared at him again, but otherwise did not hit him for s third time.
Instead, he only sighed and began moving the bodies to the side. Each boy was grabbed by the leg before being dragged to the schoolyard's entrance.
"Help me out here. I'm going to leave them here and contact their school. Afterwards, I'll see what to do with them. I'll vouch for you a bit here since I know they came after you, not the other way around."
"If you want me to help, you'll probably need to get some supplies from the damn nurse's office then."
"Just make sure they don't hit their heads on anything too hard and you'll be fine."
"A fucking strange teacher, you know that?"
The tracksuit teacher waved him off while moving to pick up the next two bodies.
"You aren't out if the clear yet though. You will be taking some responsibility because if Kirikari. Understood?"
The boy clicked his tongue as he unceremoniously dropped two bodies to the ground. There was a dull sound, but nothing too major.
He turned to get another two bodies when he noticed that the only one left was the body of an unconscious crossdresser.
He turned to look at the tracksuit teacher.
In response to the look, the tracksuit teacher turned on his heel and began for the school building in a casual manner.
"As some extra punishment, you get to take him to the nurse's office."
"Fuck you!"
