A\N: I've done some revisions on the story down there! Kindly read it to follow the plot, and I hope you forgive me for revising it later than it should be before publishing it. I had finally finished writing my draft for the entire story, and I desperately needed to replace some information here for the plot's sake. I hope you do understand and thank you so much for tuning in to this story.
With a faint smile on her lips, Erza's heart blithely pounded as she touched the cover of the novel, exhilarated with the thought of turning the first page. I never thought I'd had one. She thought to herself as she felt the etched words on the novel. Purple Hyacinths were the words engraved on the front page. After running her hands on it, she gently turned the page, revealing the main characters' silhouettes. Unable to appease her growing curiosity, Erza quickly leaned her back on the bed's headboard as she pulled the blankets after turning to a semi-sitting position.
"To think that I'd spent my entire savings to buy one instead of waiting for the pirated copy available online. How clumsy of me? Please be good to me, Mr. Niccolò." She remarked as she propped her feet, browsing to the prologue.
Not long after reading the prologue, a sudden disturbance perturbed the silence, causing her to stop what she was doing and turned her head towards the doorway. Her eyes widened when she saw her father heading towards her with heavy footsteps. Erza hastily hid the book under the sheets and later found herself standing instinctively to greet him. As she stood up from her seat, his cold voice welcomed her sharply.
"Where the hell did you hide your money?" he said as he grabbed her hair.
"I-I needed it for my project, f-father," she nervously replied as she fumbled her hands, pulling herself together as she sensed the stench of alcohol from his breath.
"Lies!" he growled, slapping her hard.
Crashing to her bed, Erza winched as she felt her cheek almost falling off with the contact of his hard, calloused hands. Despite the pain wracking through her whole body, she managed to get up as soon as she noticed him, glancing on her bed.
"T-there's nothing here!" she said, trying to conceal the book under the sheets as he strolled towards her.
"Move!" he ordered as he pulled the sheets revealing the new book before him.
She felt her anxiety surged into her body as his displeasure poured on his face. He grasped the book in his hands as he clicked his tongue. She flinched as she caught a glimpse of his cold face turning to sneer at her.
"How ridiculous of you, Erza!" he scoffed as he slammed the book on her face.
She slumped to her feet, tears bleeding from her eyes as her lips burst. Her father held the fallen book once more and later opened her wooden nightstand, looking for something. After recovering from the blow, Erza wiped her tears and kneeled, begging him to give her the book. Regardless of her apologies, he didn't bat an eye on her. Instead, he grabbed the match and attempted to set the book ablaze. Erza's eyes narrowed at his actions, causing her to push him abruptly while trying to save the book. After hearing a crash, Erza hastened and seized the book as she tried to run away from her father, running towards the door. After she attempted to close the door, his hands clutched her wrist like talons, causing her to squint in pain. After pulling her back to her room, he yanked her body, causing her to fell hard on the floor while hugging the book in her hands.
"Should I've known that you'd be this ungrateful, I should've killed you, Erza." He said as he yanked her hair, lifting her gaze.
"W-WHY WOULD YOU NEVER ALLOW ME TO SPEND A SINGLE PENNY FOR MYSELF?" she bawled.
"Oh?" he cocked his brows, surprised with her retaliation.
"Ungrateful, you say? Aren't you're the one who's being ungrateful here? HOW SHAMELESS OF YOU! You used all my earnings in gambling. Y-You even took the money that was meant for my mother's surgery. If it weren't for you, she'd still be alive by now. YOU ASSHOLE!"
His face noticeably turned somber as he slightly loosened his grip on her hair. Erza heavily heaved as she tried to gasp for air, thinking she had made him come to his senses. He straightened his face and chuckled lightheartedly. This bitch called me an asshole? He thought to himself, amused with her hidden courage. He tugged her collars and lifted her.
"Asshole, you say?" he widened his eyes in rage as he started strangling her.
"S-st-stop," she said between breaths as she tried to loosen from his vice-grip.
Unable to break free, Erza, with her last strength left, brandished the book to his head, causing him to stagger back, releasing her. Erza gasped as she crawled for the book near the balcony. She then straightened her back in an attempt to run away from him. Unfortunately, when she turned her head, he was already standing before her. His shadowy figure towered over her, causing her to stagger backward. Suddenly, she felt weak that her legs turned to jelly as his hands grasped her shoulders.
"How dare you!" he roared, pushing her off the balcony.
Erza's mind went blank as she felt herself falling with the book in her hands. Once more, her eyes met the starlight sky, and she smiled, hugging the book in her arms, accepting her death. How funny. She said to herself before crashing against the cold cement.
"You brought this upon yourself," her dad said as he stared at her lifeless body from above.
She groaned as she felt the scorching sunlight came pouring in from the windows to her forehead, waking her from her state of half-wakefulness. Finally conscious, she gasped as she felt her body burning in pain. She gradually opened her eyes as she moved her hand to her chest, trying to ease her racing heart. What the heck? Did I survive? How many bones did I break? She thought as her visions sluggishly cleared.
"Your highness?" a voice called out.
"Are you conscious now?" asked the woman garbed in a maid's outfit.
Shock at her remark, she cocked her brows and observed her surroundings. Charmed in the most cultured stones and highly exquisite classical accent, she couldn't help but wonder where the hell she was. Not long after, a sudden bang resounded as the door opened. Erza flinched, sensing a strange déjà vu with the last encounter of her father; she pulled the blanket, dodging their gazes. She then immediately closed her eyes, preparing herself for a slap or a rude welcome. However, tender arms snaked around her burning shoulder, encompassing her into a hug contrary to her expectations. She then opened her eyes, surprised at the feeling of her pain subsiding due to his touch. For a split second, Erza felt relieved but soon snapped as she heard him call her name.
"Erza?"
Slightly pushing him away, she lifted her gaze and met his emerald orbs. Tears were brimming in the eyes of the young man as he brought her hand to his cheek, caressing it softly.
"If I should have known, I shouldn't have left you all alone that night." said the blue-haired man, allowing the rivers to flow in his cheeks.
"Who are you?" she sternly asked even though he seemed uncannily familiar to her.
"What?" he asked, flabbergasted with her words.
"Answer me!" she demanded as she pulled her hand from his grip, not wanting to lower her guard.
"I'm Jellal. Jellal Fernandes, your husband." Said Jellal.
Stunned with his words, she massaged her temples, recollecting the memories she had last night. What the fuck! She mentally facepalmed as she grasped the situation. Did I just transmigrate to the novel I was reading before my death? She shook her head as she started to feel dizzy.
"Can't you remember me, Erza?" he asked as he caught her hand, supporting her.
Her lips felt frozen as she tried to muster words to answer. He looked upset and worried at the same time, waiting for her reply. She bit her lower lip, not knowing what to do, but luckily, waves of pain washed over her, causing her to collapse into his arms.
"ERZA?!" he asked.
"Call the physician, right away!" he ordered.
No wonder he looks so familiar; he was one of the main characters in the original novel I had previously read a month ago. Tulips and Hyacinths revolve around the fallen crown prince's fight to reclaim his throne alongside his beloved. He had luckily escaped the purge due to his mother's help. Jellal was the man behind the purge and was the main antagonist of the story. The cursed prince had cruelly slit his father's throat and massacred everyone in the imperial family to usurp the throne. During his short reign, he wasted the imperial treasury hiring countless mages who returned not back to their homelands. He was a ruthless and cold-blooded tyrant. Many fans were deeply outraged for his villainous character but soon pitied him as the author revealed the reason behind his tyranny, his late wife. She died due to the empress' schemes causing him to go berserk. Although nothing was told about her character, even her name was not mentioned in the original novel; many fans were curious about their tragic story. After filing countless petitions for a spin-off about the two, the author had finally released the book, and it was selling like hotcakes after a month. I was lucky enough to have one but, what the hell? Did I just transmigrate to her body without finishing the spin-off yet! How can I ever survive when I hadn't even finished reading the prologue of that story!
"Damn," she cursed as she weakly turned her head to his face.
As soon as their eyes met, her heart sank as the look on his face made her want to hug him. His eyes spoke to her with such concern she had never seen before. She melted under his gaze and reached for his cheeks.
"Are you alright?" he asked once more.
"Stay," she uttered before closing her eyelids again.
