"I tried to make sense of it. I wondered why I held a desiccated hand, and how did the man die?" Heather sighed. "I knew that he was Titus, Zayda's husband. And the wounds in his chest told me the matter of his death. He had been wounded and had bled to death. I could access Zayda's memories and knew then that they had gone steal the desiccated hand which was a gypsy treasure, and that Titus had been wounded as they ran away. He thought it was a minor wound as they sought refuge in the abandoned lean-to. It was not.
"Zayda's mind was still here, under mine and I knew that she mourned Titus and blamed herself. If she had not gone steal that hand, if she had not needed the hand, Titus would be alive.
"But I could not stay. I had to find Amos and release him. I knew what I needed to release him, and I hoped I could find one… But first I had to get back to Benchleytown… So, I walked."

"I was trapped in the crystal, my mind racing over everything that could go wrong." Amos continued "I have one consolation – the full moon was over, so that no matter what Thomas had done, it could be stopped if I got released somehow before the next full moon. But I did not count on Lester Fox, Laura's devoted servant."
"Was he as good looking as the guy who plays him?"
"NO. He was neither handsome, nor hideous, just nondescript. This actor looks like he'd be more at home in a Western than this kind of story… But they garble everything. Lester Fox was never a servant in the Benchley home. I imagine that they had already the actor playing the servant, and when they figured out that they needed a Lester Fox, they used the actor they already had instead of hiring a new one… I mean I understand that they cut all kind of corners.
"Lester Fox, at least that was what he called himself then, was Ana's bondservant, given to her by the god she served. Probably as ageless as her. He had gone through the ages with her, changing names as she changed hers. He was her spy. He learned everything that could help her or hinder her and reported to her. And it was thus that he saw Thomas looking into the books, muttering to himself. Thomas called Miriam, to tell her to protect Lilah, not to allow Ana to contact her.
"I do not think that Miriam believed him… after all, he HAD experimented with hashish, and she was wary that he might try to seduce her. She listened dutifully as Thomas said that there was a rite he could use against Ana. She nodded, saying that she hoped it worked, and as quickly as she could she left him.
"This Lester Fox saw, and he knew that Thomas was a danger to Ana. He used his power to find out more about Thomas and saw in him the taint of the werewolf.
"This he told Ana, who knew what she had to do."
