Hanging On The Edge-Ch 16
The next morning Penelope woke up to the sound of somebody knocking on her bedroom door, she raised up and said, "come in", the door opened to reveal Fran Morgan with a huge smile on her face, as she made her way across the room she said, "good morning sweetheart, how did you sleep last night?", Penelope threw the covers back and sat up on the side of the bed and looked up at the smiling woman. She then said, "pretty good actually, this bed feels heavenly", Fran said, "ohhhh I agree with you on that one, all of the beds sleep just like this one" causing Penelope to grin again, Fran then said, "how about we get you up and get you to the bathroom and then get you dressed so we can head to the kitchen for some breakfast?", Penelope said, "sounds good" as her and Fran worked together to get her into the wheelchair.
A few minutes later Fran wheeled her new guest into the dining room so that they could enjoy breakfast, in the middle of their meal Derek walked through the front door and said, "maaaaaa?", Fran laughed and said, "in here honey" as she looked at Penelope and then up to the door as Derek walked into the kitchen.. Derek said, "good morning ladies, how are the four of you doing on this beautiful morning?", Fran said, "we're good, how are you baby boy?", he sat down at the table beside Penelope and said, "good now, extremely good now that I'm here with you lovely ladies".
Sarah rolled her eyes and said, "why are you really here, is it to see us orrrrrrrrrr maybe to see Penelope?", Derek said, "right on all charges big sister", Desiree laughed and said, "your lunch is ready, it's in the fridge big brother", Derek said, "thanks Desi", he then got up and walked over and grabbed his lunch out of the fridge, grabbed his lunch and turned around and walked back over to the table. Penelope took a bite of the double chocolate chip muffin and said, "this is delicious, a girl could get use to this", Derek said, "that's good to hear baby girl, very good to hear" as he took a bite of a muffin and a sip of coffee.
The four Morgans and one Garcia sat laughng and talking for a few minutes before Derek glanced down at his watch and said ,"well ladies, I hate to do it but I've got to head out", Penelope said, "please be careful", he leaned down and gently brushed his lips against hers and said, "don't worry about me sweetness, I'll see you later". She grinned up at him and said, "sounds like a plan handsome, sounds like a plan", the four women then watched as Derek grabbed his lunch off of the table and said, "goodbye" before making his way out of the kitchen, when he disappeared out of sight Sarah said, "my baby brother is soooooooo in love with you".
Penelope said, "l l love, what are you talking about Sarah?", Desi said, "it's true, he's head over heels in love with you Penelope", Fran said, "I agree with my daughters, I have never seen my son like this before, ever", Penelope said, "well he is a very special man", Fran said, "that he is Penelope, that he is" as they sat enjoying the rest of their breakfast. When breakfast was over Penelope looked at Fran and said, "okay soooooooo, can we talk about you and Dave now?", Sarah and Desi said, "yes, let's" in unison as their attention then turned from the breakfast dishes to their now blushing mother who was trying to hide her shyness with her coffee cup.
Fran said, "about Dave, what about him?", Penelope looked at the sisters and then at Fran and said, "ohhhhhh, I don't know, how about the obvious attraction that the two of you share", Fran said, "at attraction, what attraction?", Penelope looked at the girls and said, "do you believe the words that are coming out of her mouth right now?", the girls looked at each other and then at their mother and said in unison, "not a word". Fran said, "wellllllllllll that's nice, you don't believe me?", Desi said, "momma we might have believed you if we hadn't seen the look on your face when you met him, it's kismet momma, the two of you are like Derek and Penelope, you're destined to be together".
Penelope looked at the Morgan sisters and said, 'heyyyyyy we're suppose to be triple teaming your mother, not the two of you double teaming me too", Desi said, "we're killing two birds with one stone", Penelope looked at the girls and laughed as she shook her head, she said, "for now let's focus on your mom and Dave, okay?", the sisters nodded their heads yes. Penelope said, "papa bear has been through a lot, he's been married twice, both wives have passed away so he keeps himself busy with work butttt last night when he met you I could see that spark of life that popped into him and after not seeing if for so long I was happy to see it".
Fran said, "he's a very nice man", Sarah said, "hmmmmm, nice man, there are a few words that you are forgetting here momma", Desi said, "exactly, what about handsome, no cut that, he's sexy, he smart, veryyyyyyy smart and the two of you would make a great couple momma soooooo please don't fight it momma, please don't fight the connection you feel with Dave". Sarah said, "momma is this about daddy?", Fran said, "your father and I were married for a long time before he was killed honey, I still love your father, he was the love of my life and nothing's gonna change that"
Penelope said, "caring about Dave isn't gonna take away the love you have for your husband and even though I never got the chance to meet him I'd say that he would want you to be happy", Sarah and Desi said, "ohhhh he sure would", Sarah said, "and you know it momma, sooooo please don't push away your connection with Dave". Fran looked at the trio of women and said, "alright, alright, I won't fight it but you have to promise me that you will be patient with me, let me take my time to get to know Dave and if this connection is here like the three of you think, then and only then will our relationship change".
The three women smiled at each other and then at Fran and said, "deal" in unison causing Fran to sigh happily and say, "good, now let's start talking about you and my son", Penelope said, "but but", Fran laughed and said, "it's not as good when you're on that side is it?", Penelope said, "honestly, no, no it's not", seconds later the room was filled with the laughter of the four women as they started busting Penelope's chops about her feelings for Derek.
