Rick held Evie as she looked over a gold disc she had picked up in the Temple of Thebes. Rick pointed to a pair of jackals, "So, who are these guys?" "Anubis' warriors. The Scorpion King's minions," Evie replied. "And these little guys?" Rick gestured to child-sized beings. Evie smiled at her husband knowing he was distracting her, "Pygmies. The Pharaohs used to catch them and bring them back to Thebes for show. They were cannibals, and very ill tempered." Damon could not help himself, "Sounds like this guy before coffee." He pointed to Klaus, only getting an inhuman growl in return. The others from Mystic Falls gave a subtle nod in agreement.

Upon landing at the Temple Island of Philae, the vampires search for any clues. It was Kol that came across another sandcastle, "Over here!" Evie, Ardeth, and Rick surveyed the sandcastle. A cone shaped mountain with 4 Colossi. Both Evie and Elijah recognized it, "Great Temple of Abu Simbel." Damon came up to them, "They traded in the train for camels, but the tracks faded from the sand shifting in the wind." Rick comments, "Well, they're traveling a little slower now. That's good news for us." They all head back to the dirigible.

Further into the Nubian desert, a caravan of sixty men, and two women on camels. One of these women had her hands bound to the reins of the camel. Omo was trying her best not to cough up a scorpion, but her efforts were futile. The coughing was heard by Imhotep, who was riding the closest to Omo. He sped his camel to trot alongside Omo, "You sick?" Omo couldn't lie to him being so close to her, "Nai, cursed."

Omo kept coughing until she spewed a scorpion that was almost entirely gold. Imhotep caught the scorpion before it fell to the ground. He observed the creature that was trying to sting the high priest. Imhotep smirked, "It seems you become more interesting by the moment, Princess." Omo scowled, "Not interesting enough to keep alive, High Priest." Imhotep did not confirm nor deny Omo's statement. The caravan continues to trot over the sand dunes to their next destination.

Great Temple of Abu Simbel

Omo had just revealed the final path to Ahm Shere and had moved away from the caravan to construct the sandcastle to show where they are traveling to next. She was almost finished drawing the hieroglyphs for La Nile Azul (The Blue Nile), when Lock-Nah stomps on it. "Leaving breadcrumbs?!" He was going to strangle the girl, but Imhotep stopped him. The High Priest knew Omo was leaving a trail for those she was with and was not going to stop her. He thought it was entertaining, "Go ahead and send your message. I'll be ready for them." Omo was scared for the people who had helped her. She hopes they will be alright. Imhotep waved his hand and reconstructed the hieroglyphs then they left.

La Nile Azul

The dirigible had rounded a tight corner of a canon, beautiful, rushing, blue waters below them. Rick and Ardeth lean over the side to survey the riverbank, looking for camel tracks. Rick points out the obvious, "That's the Blue Nile. We're out of Egypt now." "Yes, but we're still in Ancient Egypt," Evie remarks. Kol complains from boredom, "How are we going to find them in this maze of canons?"

A little further down the riverbank, standing near the entrance of Ahm Shere is Imhotep, Anck-Su-Numan, Omo, and the henchmen. Imhotep knows the dirigible is close to them. He takes off his outer cloak and wades into the water, he turns to Omo, "I hope your friends enjoy their journey." Imhotep starts to raise his arms and a wall of water rises up out of the river.

The people inside the dirigible hear a rumbling sound closing in from behind them. Izzy is the first one to see the wall of water, "Shit!" A massive wall of water crashes down, charging right at them. Throwing rocks and boulders out of its way. Rick yells at Izzy, "Izzy! Go right! Starboard! Starboard!" Izzy pulls on the flame cable and turns the wheel; the dirigible accelerates and starts to corner into a small side canyon.

A giant face forms inside the massive wall of water. Bonnie calls out, "It's Imhotep!" The witch moves to the back of the dirigible and recites a spell, ""Confuso fatina, ignos et ignos mortifina!" Bonnie recites the spell a second time as Izzy pilots the blimp around another turn. The massive wall of water was not able to follow them so it screams in anger as it explodes past the blimp.

Stefan is the first person to face forward, "Uh, guys." Everybody faces forward now and is shocked to see they made it. This smaller canyon opens into a massive bowl-shaped canyon filled with an enormous jungle with a gold pyramid sitting far in the center. "Ahm Shere," Ardeth quietly said. Their wonderment was disrupted when Imhotep's water wall came crashing into the blimp sending it spiraling to the ground. The vampires shield the humans from being hurt in the crash. Rick tells Izzy to stay with the blimp and get it flight ready. Izzy was proud of himself for thinking ahead and having the tools needed to rig the blimp to fly by other means. Gasoline.

Omo was starting to feel the effects of the bracelet. She had seen the blimp crash and lost hope. She did not know they survived and was on their trail. Since there was no cell reception, Ardeth resorted to an older method of communication, a falcon that had been flying behind the blimp just in case. Ardeth sent a message to his Medjai brethren saying they made it to Ahm Shere and were ready to fight.

The falcon flew for miles over the desert. Horus landed on the outstretched arm of one of the Medjai Commander, "La Nile Azul!" Nearly a thousand men on horseback, including Klaus' hybrids, tread forward to where they are to await the final battle. The hybrids had been updating Klaus when they could. The past few days have been exciting, and they felt like they had a purpose.

After watching the blimp crash, Lock-Nah drags a struggling Omo behind Imhotep into Ahm Shere. The Scorpion King's Oasis. And it is undeniably beautiful. But even something these beautiful hides some of the most dangerous beings. Beings that observe the intruders and are ready to take them down. Imhotep is not afraid of these beings, Anck however, is terrified. Omo is just as terrified, if not more so since she may not survive this ordeal. She continues to struggle which frustrates Lock-Nah.

The man grips her tighter and asks Imhotep, "Now that we are here, is she needed?" Imhotep smirks and looks back to Omo, "We just need the bracelet of Anubis." Lock-Nah grins evilly, knowing he can now play with the princess before he kills her. He and three other men leave the group, dragging Omo further into the jungle. Lock-Nah throws Omo to the ground, "We're going to enjoy this. Then I'm going to slit that pretty throat of yours." Omo goes to stand but two of the men hold her in place on the ground.

Lock-Nah turns to speak with one of the men, telling him to be ready to sever Omo's hand and retrieve the bracelet. While he is doing so, the two men holding Omo lose their heads and she vanishes. Lock-Nah quickly turns back around when he hears the sound of bodies dropping. He unsheathed his Scimitar and searched for whoever attacked. The other man was grabbed by his ankles by an unseen enemy and dragged away screaming. Lock-Nah is left alone so he runs back to the group and reports to Imhotep, "She's gone!" Imhotep rolls his eyes at the man's stupidity, "Find her! We need that bracelet to wake the Scorpion King."

When they're far enough from Imhotep, Kol sets down a shaking, pale Omorose. The bracelet feeling even more heavy has begun to drain Omo of her strength. She knew she needed to enter the pyramid before the sun set. Kol, Klaus, and Elijah surround Omo. They could see something was wrong. Knowing the other half of their group could hear him, Elijah voices his concern, "Omo looks sick. She's losing strength." Damon relays what was said to Evie, and she responds, "She needs to enter the pyramid to remove the bracelet before the sun's shadow reaches the pyramid steps." Damon repeats everything to Elijah.

"We need to get her into the pyramid. The bracelet is killing her," Kol picks her back up and whooshes in the direction of the pyramid. Elijah follows closely behind Kol while Klaus stays back for a moment. Klaus could sense other beings around him. He whooshes to a large tree with what looks like several Pygmy skeletons. Klaus waits for a moment. The Pygmies lunge at the Original Hybrid, but instead of running or screaming in fright, he reveals his Hybrid face and roars at them. The Pygmies stop in their tracks. Klaus takes the opportunity to growl at the small but aggressive creatures.

The sounds of several henchmen coming closer gains a fangy smirk from the Hybrid, "Time to play." The Pygmies follow the Original Hybrid like soldiers following their commander as they attack the henchmen. At one point, Klaus watched the little creatures take down several men and laugh before continuing to behead the others. Klaus is soon joined by Damon and Stefan. Soon, there are no henchmen left. Except Lock-Nah, who is fighting Ardeth. The two are battling to the death. Ardeth gained the upper hand when his Scimitar proved to be the better crafted of the two, and Lock-Nah's broke in two. Lock-Nah tried to lunge at Ardeth with the splintered blade, only to have Ardeth impale him through the chest. Ardeth pulled his Scimitar out of Lock-Nah's chest and let his body fall unceremoniously to the ground. Ardeth had then left the group and the Oasis to fight with the Medjai.

Kol, Elijah, and a very weak Omo rush into the pyramid. The moment they enter, the bracelet of Anubis unlocks from around Omo's wrist. She unwraps it and lets it fall to the ground. After a few moments, she is slowly feeling better and gaining strength. Elijah picks up the bracelet, only to receive a stake from behind piercing his heart, "Elijah!" Luckily for the original, it was a normal stake and not White Oak.

Anck was the one who staked Elijah. She stood over the fallen Original with a sinister smile, "Princess." Omorose grew angry, "Anck-Su-Namun." Kol moves to pull the stake out of Elijah's back and examines it. He exhales in relief when he sees it is not White Oak, knowing his noble brother will wake soon. Omo looks on in horror at Elijah's body then to Anck-Su-Namun, "You'll pay for that." Anck just laughs and goes to attack Omo but is stopped by Evie.

Kol had moved Elijah to sit against a wall out of the way. He looks up at the sound of weapons clashing, surprised to see Omorose, Evie, and Anck fighting. Both Omo and Evie have armed themselves from weapons statues were holding. Anck knew she was outmatched and ran further into the pyramid. Evie followed her. Omo glanced at Kol and Elijah, she smiled when she saw Elijah gaining color in his complexion. The gray tinge and blackened veins fading away. Kol picked up a now waking Original, "Welcome back, brother." The three of them ventured into the pyramid without the bracelet of Anubis. Elijah had the Scepter of Osiris inside his jacket for the entire trip.

The bracelet of Anubis was picked up by one of the witches working with Imhotep that stayed hidden until it was time. He felt compelled to put the bracelet on as he walked further into the pyramid. Coming to a set of massive double doors with an image of the Scorpion King carved into them, the center of the carving looked like a lock big enough to fit an arm through. This is where the bracelet needed to be placed to unlock the Scorpion King's chambers and fully awaken him.

The witch could not resist the compulsion to insert his arm into the lock which he instantly regretted. The locking mechanism ripped the bracelet of Anubis off of his flesh, leaving his bones exposed to the elements. The witch screams in pain as the doors open revealing a monster, the Scorpion King himself. As well as releasing the Army of Anubis that Imhotep hopes to command.

Klaus had moved swiftly through the jungle, leaving the Pygmies to play with the henchmen' corpses. He laughs to himself as he catches a glimpse of some Pygmies arranging some severed heads into floating, stepping stones on top of quicksand. The Salvatore brothers and Bonnie not too far behind him, Damon was carrying the witch. They too entered the pyramid to join the fight against the Scorpion King.

Anck had escaped Evie and found Imhotep. He was getting close to the arena for the final battle with the Scorpion King. The pair walk down a set of stairs made of sand. At the bottom of the stairs in a large gold crest embossed with a gold scorpion. Imhotep steps onto the crest, and his whole body spasms like it's being electrocuted. He cries out as his body fully regenerates until he looks strong and healthy and whole once again. Anck is thrilled, Imhotep is not. His powers seemed to be muted, almost non-existent. He will have to fight as a human.

Making their way through a maze of golden statues, Imhotep pulls a spear from one of them to arm himself. He turns to Anck, "I must face the Scorpion King alone." Anck nods her head, she is too frightened to argue. She does, however, grasp Imhotep's face and pulls him into a passionate kiss before leaving the High Priest to his fate. Imhotep continues forward into the arena, stopping in front of a massive, gold gong. He takes a deep breath before using the spear to ring the gong. The sound attracts the others. Soon, Imhotep is joined by Rick, Elijah, Kol, and Klaus. The others stayed out of the arena to stop any others from interfering.

Elijah surveyed the arena, noticing the cartouche of a Medjai delivering the final blow with a spear. Omo sees this too and motions to Elijah's inner jacket pocket, "The Scepter of Osiris is a spear." This is one of those times the Originals feel uneducated. You would think they would understand Omo knowing all the languages they do including Aramaic. Which can be traced back to the time of the Egyptians, but the language Omorose is speaking is much older and very dead. They are lucky Evie understands Omo, "The Scepter of Osiris Elijah is carrying turns into a spear."

Elijah quickly pulls the Scepter from inside his jacket and closely examines it. He twists the bottom of the scepter, and it slides open revealing a sharp spear. By this point, the arena is trembling, the ground crumbling in a few places opening onto bottomless chasms. Rick and Imhotep had started fighting each other as the arena lost ground. Neither paying attention to the approaching monster or Elijah opening the Scepter until he calls out to Rick.

Rick stops mid-punch and sees the spear and is going to tell Elijah to throw it to him when the Scorpion King enters the arena with a mighty roar. Imhotep and Rick stop fighting each other and face the Scorpion King. The enormous monster quickly shuffles to stand in front of the two humans. Imhotep kneels and pleads his loyalty only for the Scorpion King to use his tail and whip Imhotep into a wall. Rick dodges the Scorpion King as he moves closer to Elijah so he could get the Scepter. Klaus distracts the Scorpion by grabbing his tail and using all his strength to stop the monster's movements.

The Scorpion King looks behind him at the Hybrid and gives what could only be described as a smile as he thrashes his tail around. Klaus had no choice but to let go. He is thrown into a wall and slides down almost falling into a newly opened chasm. The Hybrid moves faster than he ever has to avoid falling into the chasm and moves to protect Omo, Bonnie, and Evie next to Kol. "We should get out of the pyramid before it crumbles on top of us," Stefan suggests. The Originals have a silent conversation with each other and agree. Kol, Elijah, Stefan, Damon, and Omo quickly exit the arena. Elijah was able to hand Rick the Scepter before leaving. Bonnie, and Evie stay behind with Rick. Damon notices Bonnie isn't with them and goes back.

All the while, the men of the Medjai have been battling the Jackals of Anubis' Army. The only way to kill the creatures created from the sand itself is by beheading. Every time one is beheaded another reforms, the battle is never ending. Good thing the hybrids have so much stamina and strength. However, they too, will tire eventually. They could only hope the Scorpion King would be killed and the Army of Anubis sent back to the underworld.

Back inside the arena, Imhotep tries to fight Rick for the Scepter, only to be subdued by Bonnie. She is so done with the High Priest. All she wants is to go home and have a very long, hot shower and a drink. Bonnie has sand in places she never thought could. Imhotep sends a spell her way. Something she doesn't recognize since it is as ancient as he is and has to stop fighting him.

Only this gave Rick the opportunity he needed to fight the Scorpion King. Rick has dodged another attack when he is able to pierce the Scorpion King's upper body with the Scepter, "Go to Hell, and take your friends with you!" The Scorpion King roars in pain and defeat before falling into one of the bigger chasms. As he fell the ground shook and the chasm became bigger causing Rick and Imhotep to fall into it. They grip the edge for dear life as the pyramid starts to fall apart around them. Rick is able to pull himself enough to see his wife contemplating running to him, "No, Evie!"

Anck was standing on the outside of the arena watching the whole thing. When Imhotep lost control of the situation, she lost all faith and feelings for the man. To her, he was now worthless and ran away. Both Bonnie and Imhotep watch his love turn her back on him. Imhotep calls out to her, "Anck-Su-Namun! Anck-Su-Namun!" Anck is seen running through the maze of statues then the floor collapses under her and she is eaten alive by scorpions.

Bonnie could see the look of heartbreak on Imhotep's face. She could see he was about to let go and fall into despair. Damon stands by Bonnie and watches as her face matches Evie's in determination, "Don't even think about it!" Bonnie argues, "Come on, Damon! He did all this for her! If anyone can understand the depths one is willing to go for love, it's you!" Damon couldn't admit that she was right, instead he rushed out to grab Imhotep and pull him out of the chasm. The vampire sees Evie had made it to Rick and pulled him up. The five of them run out of the arena and look for the others.

Everyone could see the Oasis was collapsing on itself, so they started climbing to the top of the pyramid. The first half of the group were halfway to the top when the rest plus a depressed High Priest joined the climb. They are hit with high, rough, powerful winds, sand, and debris as they climb. Once reaching the top, they see the Oasis is being swallowed up and they are trapped. Bonnie hugs Damon, Evie clings to Rick, and the three Originals hold Omo close. They were losing hope when all of the sudden, "Hi!"

The sound of a roaring engine, the smell of gasoline, and a bashed-up blimp hover above their heads. Izzy keeps the dirigible steady as the vampires grab a human and jump. Klaus had to jump back down to grab Imhotep, even though they should leave him. But even Klaus could see the logic of bringing Imhotep with them. Before Klaus could grab the High Priest, Imhotep snatches the diamond encrusted tip of the pyramid. Klaus just shakes his head and jumps into the dirigible with the High Priest. He sits apart from everyone and silently sulks. Izzy maneuvers the blimp higher into the sky away from the disappearing Oasis, "Woo! O'Connell, that's the last time I work with you!" Rick just shrugs, "At least you didn't get shot."

AN: Damon rescued Imhotep for Bonnie. Next, it's back to Mystic Falls to deal with Esther and a cursed Finn.
