Today, Orca and her Aqua Senshi were hanging out with the Neo and Dark Kingdom Senshi at a beach house. The Neo Senshi's mothers owned this beach house where Usagi and Oki met years ago in their teens. Usagi had saved Oki's life and thus reunited the Moon Kingdom and the Crystal Sea so the Moon and tides were one again.
It was rare for the Senshi to experience what it is like on Earth. So, for them, this was a special treat. Chibiusa, Diana, Jewel, Selina, Elizabeth, and Orca stuck to playing games along the boardwalk. Given that their friends were making the sand crowded, Orca's nails glittered yellow as she was happy to be with her friends. Very few people knew that a mermaid's fingernails were like mood rings. They changed color to match their emotions.
It had taken the land Senshi some time to memorize them all. But they now had it down pat. Now they knew which nail color connected to which emotion. Yellow- Happy, red- Anger, Blue- Sadness, Lilac- Nervous, Green- Envy, Orange- Surprise, Black- Disgust, Grey- Confused, Pink- Love, White- Neutral, Striped-Feeling more than one emotion. No color- Sleeping or half-asleep
Sitting at a picnic table, Lucy's gray nails showed she was confused as Crystal, Asteroid, and Star played a card game. Coco (yellow nails), Gracie, Comet, and Dawn joined a volleyball game. Not beach people, Christen, Hannah (white nails=neutral), and Shadow, spent their time at the snack bar.
They weren't into the food. Instead, it is one of the few most comfortable shady spots. Ariel and Noel (lilac nails = nervous, as is her natural emotion) just walked around the beach. Holly, Alexis, Sara, and Seira (both with yellow nails) swam. Sara and Seira tried to keep their lower halves hidden under the water. Emily, Rose, and Karen (yellow nails) loved spending time at the arcade at the back of a restaurant attached to the side of the snack bar.
Trisha, Lina (white nails), Quartz (under the umbrella), and Ivy sunbathed. Despite the handful of boys who flirted with them, it was a nice day. Of course, the mermaids had to return to the water by nightfall. As long as they didn't get wet (Drinking liquids didn't count, nor did magical water), they could hold their human forms till sundown. They had all day before that happened. As Mars's daughter glanced up to see what she thought were birds, oddly large to be seabirds, she felt her sixth sense spike!
"Crystal!" This oil black-haired girl grabbed her teammate's attention without taking her eyes off the dark specs. Mercury's daughter and Artemi's son looked at Christen for a second. Mars's dark-eyed offspring pointed up, and the light brunette followed her teammate's gaze to see what she was intently staring at. As these birds fluttered about strangely, Crystal activated her visor, and the white, black-tipped kitten yipped in fright.
"Everyone, I know you're all going to think I'm crazy, but those aren't seabirds. I'm not even sure they are birds!" Crystal informed, alarmed at what her goggles had shown her.
Before others could ask what she meant, Sara and Seira started screaming (their nails orange now) as a pair of these avians attacked them! People panicked and fled, causing the Senshi to transform and rush into the waves as the kittens stayed at the water's edge.
"Electric Icicle Freezing Crash!" Neo-Super Sailor Jupiter and Neo-Super Sailor Mercury's combined attack clipped and froze the creature's wings.
This gave the teams a chance to identify these beings. As Mercury's kid had stated, they were unsure if these things were birds or humans as they looked like a hybrid! They had talons, scaly hands and feet, wings, and sharp facial features, but the rest of their body looked homo sapiens. The other ones had streaked off after seeing the power over their comrades!
"Harpies?" Super Sailor Universe asked in bewilderment.
One of the females, who had straight, red hair and green eyes, looked offended and snapped, "I would pay you humans to hear how stupid you sound sometimes!"
"What a b with an itch!" Mars snickered. The other one, who had curly blonde hair and purple eyes, growled. She aimed to strike Mars's kid with her razor-sharp. talons. However, the black-uniformed Senshi kept her at bay by holding a fireball attack high in her hand and growled, "Go on, I triple dog dare you!"
In response, the woman just hissed.
"I wish they would," Quartz murmured to himself. Comet and Rose knew Quartz wanted to see a fight.
"Instead of being hostile, why don't we get to land and sort this out?" Sailor Amphirite suggested reasonably. Though these lasses didn't look ready to accommodate, they agreed.
Once on land and de-transformed to defuse further tension, Christen melted the ice on the harpie-like monster's wings. Then Gracie patched them up. After all, they would not be going anywhere with so many Senshi around anyway.
"While we thank you for your assistance, we are not allies." For her appearance, this redhead avian's voice is melodious.
"We noticed," Hannah said harshly, her nails a shiny black. All mermaid's nails are red or black now except Seira's, which were blue. She was still a bit startled and sore from the attack. Moreover, Noel's nails were grey as she was too kind for her own good.
"Do you mind giving us your names?" Chibiusa questioned as calmly as she could.
Both creatures looked at each other and shrugged. Then the blonde answered beautifully, "I'm Marina, and this is one of my sisters, Lily."
"Those are pretty names!" Seira squeaked, trying to be brave.
"You're sisters?! We are, too!" Alexis squealed, grabbing Holly's arm.
"All our kind are sisters...though we may not look it," Lily admitted. Marina and Lily flashed brief smiles at Seira and Alexis as it was impossible for anyone not to fall in love with how sweet they were, which made everyone relax a little.
"If you don't mind my asking, what are you exactly?" Lucy tried to sound polite, her nails turning lilac.
"You don't need to know yet," Lily smirked devilishly, and they shot into the sky and clumsily escaped!
"Raskilnov!" Noel yelled as she tried to shoot them down with electrified water from her green guns. Her nails burned red, but the winged women hid in the cloud cover.
"Noel..." Orca and the other Aqua Senshi looked horrified at her, all their nails a blinding orange! At first, Noel's were gray for a second. But when she realized she had sworn in Russian and the English equivalent, she covered her mouth, and her nails were now lilac.
"What did she say?" Of course, none of the Neo or Dark Kingdom Senshi knew what Noel had said.
"The F-word." Lina clarified.
"We should go and tell our queen what happened," Sara advised as Karen tried to comfort Noel, who hung her head shamefully.
"Though I sensed less hostility to us, we shall do the same, just in case you need us," Trisha added as the girls and kittens rushed to get back to the Moon as the mermaids slipped underwater.
