Chapter 5: Um:

Alice's POV:

Cyrus and I began to run, but we stopped. "What was this," asks Cyrus.

"Looks like a grave," I said. We then saw a gravestone with a griffin like symbol on it. "The griffin!"

"Alice," says Cyrus, "the dog is here!"

The dog came to us, and we panicked. "I'm not going to hurt you," says the dog, "my name is Bayard, and I am with the Resistance!"

"Then why are you helping the Red Knight," I asked.

"He has my wife and pups," says Bayard, "but I can help you!"

"Good, take us home," says Cyrus.

"No," I said, "we need to save the Hatter!"

"Alice, none of this is real," says Cyrus.

"I know that," I said, "but... it just doesn't feel right to leave him with the Red Queen!"

"If you say so," says Cyrus.

. . .

Bayard then took us to the Red Queen's castle. On the way, I saw a familiar looking pig. The pig smiled at me.

. . .

We got in the kitchen. "What are we looking for," asks Cyrus.

"You think we're going to be of any use at this height," I asked.

"I would say you wouldn't!" The book talked and it was so surprising, I ended up knocking Cyrus down and our faces were pretty close. "Oops, sorry about that."

We then got up. "I might have known this world would have talking books," I said.

"I'm Cookie. Are you guys with the Resistance?"

"No," I said, "are you?"

"No, but I am a supporter," says Cookie, "all the Red Queen ever has that psycho chef make is tarts and I am sick of it! Take a look at all the recipes in me!" Cookie then flips through pages.

"There's one thing I'm looking for," I said.

. . .

Thanks to Cookie, we made an Upelkuchen. "And this will restore us," asks Cyrus.

"Bayard, take Cookie to the White Princess," I said.

"You want me to travel in a dog's mouth," asks Cookie.

Bayard then takes Cookie and runs off.

I then take a bite of the upelkuchen and I grew... but I outgrew my clothes. Funny, my clothes changes sizes with me the last time.

"Alice, I don't think I want to try it," says Cyrus.

"Who goes there," asks the Red Queen. She does have a big head. She then sees me.

"Hello," I said.

"And who are you," asks the Red Queen.

"Um..."

"Well, Um, anyone with a head that big is welcomed in my court," says the Red Queen, "someone get her some clothes!"

. . .

I have now become the Red Queen's most trusted friend and Cyrus is hiding in the pocket of my new dress. "So, is there a man... with a hat," I asked.

"The Mad Hatter," says the Red Queen, "he's making hats for me. Come, Um!"

"Making hats for that head," asks Cyrus, "poor devil!"
