It was a normal day in the small town of Gravesfield, Connecticut. Nothing bad was happening, and a small child was wandering in the woods after sneaking away from her parents... like you do. Little Luz walked around the woods, excited to see what was in this new town and new forest. She already made friends with a stray cat... so what if it scratched her, that was just how friends are made. Luz began to hear a noise and went over to investigate. She peered over a rock and saw an egg laying in a leaf pile. She slowly approached it and began looking at it. The egg was massive, nearly the size of her... granted she wasn't all that tall to begin with, being only four, but still, the egg was huge. She walked over to it, planning on bringing it home with her since she knows nothing this big lives in Connecticut and the egg won't survive the cold. She then noticed a 'V' stamped onto it as she got closer.

"V? Huh, that's a nice name." Luz said, holding the egg, "I'm going to call you Vee, and I'll be your big sister."

Luz began to pick the egg up and began to carry it home... oh she was sure her dad was going to drop dead right then and there. When she entered the house with the egg, her parents immediately wanted to know where she found something that was bigger than a dinosaur egg.

"I found it in the woods!" Luz said, excitedly, "It was alone and it wouldn't have survived the cold, so I decided to save it! I named it Vee, for the V that's stamped on it!"

Manny and Camila looked at each other.

"Luz, Mija, why don't you take... Vee... upstairs and warm it up." Camila said, "Your dad and I have to talk... privately."

"Okay!" Luz said, grabbing Vee, "Let's go, Vee!"

Luz went up the stairs and the two adults waited a bit before talking, wanting to make sure Luz was out of earshot.

"What kind of creature laid that egg?" Camila asked, "I work with animals, and I've never seen something like that."

"I don't know, and I'm afraid of what may happen when that egg hatches." Manny said.

"The egg had a stamp on it, which means someone had it." Camila said, "It may have been stolen from... whatever laid it."

"I know, which means there may be someone dangerous looking for it." Manny said, "Camila... we both know I won't be around much longer... promise me you'll keep an eye on Luz and... Vee."

Camila had a sad look, knowing he was telling the truth.

"I promise."
