(Scene fades to the next morning. Ida and Gallus are seen on their thrones and talking to a group of guards standing before them)
Queen Ida: He's a little man about this tall, with a nasty smile, orange eyes, dark hair, and skin that shines like gold.
(The guards look at each other awkwardly)
King Gallus: And we need some of you to go out in search of any sign of him while the rest of you go and jot down every name in the kingdom. And I mean EVERY name. Leave no stone unturned, and bring what you've found back here tonight at sunset. Do you understand?
Guards: Yes, Your Majesties.
Queen Ida: Good, now go. And hurry, please. We don't have much time.
(The guards bow and exit the throne room as Ida and Gallus hold hands)
(Scene cuts to a montage of guards asking people in the village and the farmlands for names and Ida and Gallus searching for names in the castle library and writing down every name they could find in the books and scrolls surrounding them. The scene now cuts to Gallus and Ida's bedroom at twilight. They set their combined list on a table near the window)
King Gallus: Phew. We did it.
Queen Ida: Yeah. Thank you again, Gallus. I don't know how I could've gotten through all this without your help.
King Gallus: No problem, love. Besides, one of these names has to be right.
Queen Ida: I sure hope so.
(Scene cuts to later in the evening. The little man is seen pacing the floor while Ida reads from the lists of names. She's nearing the end of the list)
Queen Ida: Is your name… Aristotle? Algonquin? Arcturus? Balthazar? Bayard? Butch? Casper? Crow? Constantine?
Little man: No.
Queen Ida: Is it Remus? Ryker? Santiago? Solomon? Vladimir? Viktor? Waylon? Wiley? Zachariah? Zeke?
Little man: No.
Queen Ida: Gawain? Guto? Horatio? Hawthorne? Igor? Ishmael? Jet? Julian? Keanu? Kragen? Lysander? Leopold? Melchior? Marley?
Little man: (scoffs) You don't even have a clue, do you? (takes the list out of Ida's hands and skims through it before tossing it to the side. He laughs) None of these names are even close. I'll be back tomorrow. (starts walking away)
Queen Ida: Otho! What about Otho?
Little man: No! (disappears behind the window curtain)
(Gallus enters the room a few seconds later and approaches his wife)
King Gallus: How'd it go?
Queen Ida: (sighs) Not a single one of them was correct.
King Gallus: Darn it. Then I guess we'll need to be a bit more creative.
(Scene cuts to the next morning. Ida and Gallus are seen back on their thrones and talking to the same group of guards from the day before)
Guard #1: We've searched everywhere, Your Majesties, but nobody has seen the little man you described.
Guard #2: And no one knows his name.
Queen Ida: Please, men. Go further into the kingdom. Search high and low, left and right. ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE. Do you understand?
Guards: Yes, Your Majesty.
Queen Ida: Good. Go! And be quick about it, please! We only have two days.
(The guards bow and briskly exit the throne room. The scene now cuts to Ida and Gallus sitting at a long table and writing up a list of silly sounding names together)
King Gallus: How about Wiggity-whack, Ratsnest, Nickleknees, or Snakeskin?
Queen Ida: Ooh, those are good. Or maybe it's something short and simple like Flint or Boulder.
King Gallus: Either of those sounds good to me.
(Scene cuts to later in the evening. The little man is seen lounging in a chair while Ida reads from the list of names she and Gallus made up; he's trying his hardest to hold in his laughter. She's nearing the end of the list and she's also seen holding her baby on her arm and the list with her free hand)
Queen Ida: Is your name Spiderlegs? Or Cowribs? Or Dingle-Dangle?
Little man: No.
Queen Ida: Is it Sludge? Or Sheepshank? Or Whoopitystory?
Little man: No.
Queen Ida: Potbelly? Snaggletooth? Needlenose? Periwinkle? Skunkbreath? Pinhead? Fisheyes? Bitmeister?
Little man: (groans in annoyance) Okay, now you're just making things up!
Queen Ida: (tosses the list to the side and puts her free hand on her hip) Oh! Well, excuse me, Mister Impossible!
Leah: Nah!
Little man: (scoffs, then laughs) Tough luck. That was your last guess for today, dearie. (stands up from the chair) I'll be back tomorrow. But remember, tomorrow is the last day. You're running out of time. And if you fail again, your daughter is MINE. (gently scratches under baby Leah's chin before she starts fussing. Ida holds her baby away from him and he backs away into the shadows before disappearing)
(Ida sighs in frustration before Gallus enters the room, approaches his wife, and wraps an arm around her. The scene now fades to the next day. Ida and Gallus are seen back on their thrones and talking to the same group of guards with Leah sitting on Ida's lap)
King Gallus: Well?
(The guards stay silent, but shake their heads 'no')
King Gallus: Nothing? Again?
Guard #1: We're sorry, Your Majesties.
Queen Ida: Ugh! This is getting ridiculous! How can he be so hard to find? (facepalms, then pauses) …Have you searched the outskirts of the kingdom? Did you go into the woods beyond the river?
(The guards give each other nervous looks and Ida catches on)
Queen Ida: What?
Guard #1: (nervously) Uh… you see, Your Majesty, we have searched beyond the river, but… we didn't go into the woods.
Queen Ida: (raises an eyebrow) Why?
Guard #2: That place is dangerous and full of monsters and ghosts. No one and, I repeat, NO ONE dares to even take a single step into those hideous woods… unless they have a death wish.
Queen Ida: (perks up) (hushed) That must be where he's hiding.
King Gallus: (his eyes widen in realization and he takes her hand) Ida, no. I am not letting you go out into those woods alone. It's already out of the question.
Queen Ida: I have to, Gallus. Nobody else will. Besides, I got us into this mess. So I have to be the one to get us out.
King Gallus: No. You don't—
Queen Ida: I'm sorry, love, but I need to go and I'm not going to waste this opportunity. Don't even try to stop me. (gently places her daughter into her husband's lap and stands up from her throne) Fetch my cloak and prepare my horse. (walks towards the door with a couple of guards following her)
Guards: Yes, Your Majesty.
King Gallus: Ida! No, wait! (stands up from his throne and tries to stop Ida, but she's already out the door. He sighs) Oh boy.
(Baby Leah coos up at Gallus. He glances down at her and holds her close as she grabs his finger with her tiny hand)
King Gallus: Don't worry, sweetheart. Mommy is tough and brave and smart. I'm sure she'll be fine… I hope.
