Heaven's Divide

Chapter 1: The Drop

"Peace will not come until we have mastered both sex and war and to master war we must study it with at least the diligence of Napoleon, Manstein, Zhukov, Patton, and every horrible general who led his men into battle," Brigadier General Bradley O'Hara said in the briefing room. Cigar smoke drifted and swirled under the white lights of the film projector. "Every society has a blind spot, an area into which it has great difficulty looking."

"Blindspot?" Percy muttered softly only to feel cold. Was Bradley O'Hara looking at him?

"Yes, a blind spot! Today, that blind spot is killing. A century ago, it was sex. This is where you recruits for FOXHOUND come in."

Percy stared at the wall where the projector was showing images of brutally disfigured corpses and bodies covered in boils. Some of the people on screen had holes in their skin from keratolysis leaving puss and blood where normal skin should have been. More images showed mutated people with arms growing out of their necks and chests. Other images showed mutated corpses from radiation. Every image made his blood turn colder and colder as Bradley continued his briefing.

Chills and goosebumps rose underneath his Army Rangers uniform.

"War hasn't changed much since its inception, only evolved into something far viler than any AI could have predicted! In the 21st century, warfare has evolved from its constant squabbles on ethnicity, ideologies, and conquest to a well-oiled industrial machine. Ever since modern warfare was introduced over a hundred years ago on the muddy and bloody trenches during the First World War." Bradley O'Hara blew out a long stream of cigar smoke.

Percy felt uneasy by the man as if Bradley O'Hara wasn't human. Like he was a demigod of doom!

Bradley O'Hara put his orange lit cigar back in his mouth, then said roughly, "Weapons of mass destruction were first created in the form of chemical warfare and biological warfare. Then came propaganda warfare, nuclear warfare, missile warfare, and now the introduction of AI-controlled weapons," Bradley O'Hara looked around the seven latest recruits of FOXHOUND. He looked into their eyes and saw confusion and doubt, but Percy Jackson had a curious grin on his face. His eyes betrayed him, he was uncertain, yet was very enthralled by his show. "Do you understand what I'm saying?"

"Warfare has changed, right?" Spoke Clarisse who smirked next to Percy, she was the reason why he got dragged into this in the first place. After all, they made a pact to join the military after High School.

"On some fronts it has, a single reaper drone can be manually, or AI-controlled from 8,000 miles away, delivering death without the perpetrator being present. A virus genetically engineered in a lab can be used to target designated populations without ever being traced. EMP weapons have been developed that can destroy an entire region's electrical grid within seconds. Computer viruses developed by the NSO and DARPA have the capability of knocking out entire water and natural gas grids quicker than it'll ever take to fix them. That is the reality of post-modern warfare!"

"What is the point of post-modern warfare then?" Questioned Catherine Miller, she was the daughter of legendary soldier Kazuhira Miller.

"Great question Major Miller! Those are just examples of the horror we must face in a world where the boundaries of what is or isn't the battlefield don't exist anymore. War can break out anywhere and at any time. Gone are the days of nuclear deterrence and capable military logistics for a boots-on-the-ground invasion. Recent breakthroughs with Nanotechnology can now allow us to monitor the moods, the personalities, and even put down resistance in the average soldier on the battlefield."

"Nanotechnology?" Questioned Percy confused by what he was hearing. Since when was nanotechnology a thing?

"You'll learn about it, believe me. Information is the name of the game for FOXHOUND. ID-tagged soldiers carry ID-tagged weapons, they use ID-tagged gear, with ID-tagged cards monitoring their every transaction and whereabouts," Bradley took out his lit Churchill cigar from his mouth and exited the shadows.

Percy watched in horror as he saw the new leader of FOXHOUND's eyes. They were pure black and soulless like the buttons of a demon-possessed doll. Bradley O'Hara smiled a frightening smile as he smirked at the seven recruits who now turned their attention away from the projector to their new boss. Even Clarisse looked shaken and frightened by Bradley's eyes.

Bradley walked into the light revealing a half-burned face. In a soft chilling voice, he said, "Only one form of warfare hasn't changed. Tactical Espionage, while one form of espionage is now focused solely on technology. Where a bunch of nerds in Langley, Virginia can monitor millions of people from outside the US from their government computers. Tactical Espionage has remained the same since its inception thousands of years ago. Gathering intelligence might be more computerized, especially with AI tracking faces and voices, but the need for individuals like yourselves is a matter of everyone waking up tomorrow to a bright sunny day or a nuclear winter."

Percy noticed Bradley's black soulless eyes narrowing into his own eyes. They were eyes that held more darkness than Tartarus itself. Bradley then turned his attention to Clarisse, the brigadier general then licked his lips with a slimy pink tongue. Percy wasn't sure what to think about the disgusting sight.

"Legends like Sidney Reilly the Ace of Spies, Big Boss, and Snake might be figments of the past. Yet we're still here because of them! To save the world we must operate in the shadows. Once you signed the documents and entered this door your old lives are now gone. You are only here because JSOC determined out of the four hundred applicants that you are the best. Proxy wars are flaring up around the world, the global war on terror has us scrambling to stop ISIL and the Taliban in Afghanistan! Russia, China, Iran, NATO, and even our government can't be trusted," Bradley proclaimed to the room, before taking a long draw from his cigar.

Percy turned and looked at the American flag hanging by the pole next to the door. The door was blocked by Bradley O'Hara. He felt troubled by what he was hearing, but he knew this was his destiny. He didn't have Annabeth, his mom, and even Camp Half-Blood anymore. All he had was Clarisse and an uncertain future.

"I'm Bradley O'Hara, Brigadier General of the United States Army, but from here on out you'll refer to me as Big Boss. Welcome to FOXHOUND!"

4:30 AM July 20th, 2019, Over the Skies of Hubei Province, China

Percy was awoken by a strong rumbling of turbulence. He was in a Boeing RC-135 reconnaissance plane among the 32 such crafts still serving in both Delta Force and FOXHOUND. He must have dozed off in the middle of the flight. Their plane left from Pakistani airspace four hours earlier, heading east through Chinese airspace. He flipped on the switch to his helmet causing loud radio screeches to resound around his ears.

"This is Gabriel! We're flying over Western Hubei, altitude 32,000 feet!" Echoed a voice in Percy Jackson's helmet. "30 seconds until cabin depressurization is complete! Drop off zone T-minus 80 seconds!"

Orange sparks flew around the flint wheel of a zippo lighter. Percy continued moving the wheel with his thumb until a bright and warm yellow flame appeared. The lighter was something Clarisse gifted him five years back when he was first accepted into FOXHOUND. Clarisse got wounded in Afghanistan while performing a mission under Delta Force. While over there she discovered the lighter, a memento from the past. Percy rubbed the faded insignia on the side, it depicted a diamond with a black dog facing west and a banner at the bottom that read Diamond Dogs.

A soldier wearing a helmet walked into the main cabin where Percy was situated. He quickly pocketed the zippo lighter over his heart. A common ritual he performed since Clarisse gave him the gift.

"The plane is arriving over Wuhan, China," said the soldier with a muffled respirator voice.

"Noted," Percy said nonchalantly before unbuckling his X-shaped belt straps.

"Is it true?"

"What is?"

The soldier tilted their head sideways. Percy wondered what their expression was behind their darkened pilot's helmet, but he was used to this sort of behavior before big drops. The soldier then briskly said, "I've heard all about FOXHOUND. Thought it was all smoke and mirrors, but here you are. A true FOXHOUND soldier!"

"It'll take more than that to get me bubbly," Percy replied with a hoarse voice.

Loud mechanical hydraulics started sounding. Low red alarm lights flashed down the long corridor as the air started vacuuming out of the RC-135 hanger. A metallic drawbridge was lowered for parachuting. Percy heard the radio in his helmet say, "T-minus 40 seconds until we reach the drop zone!"

"Heard from Bradley you're going on a retrieval mission?"

"You've been doing a lot of eavesdropping, haven't you? Just what I need before I jump out of this rust bucket," Percy replied as he got up.

He walked on unsteady feet towards the lowered bay doors at the back of the fuselage. Strong winds tore through his hardened gear like razor-sharp knives. The sound of the plane's engines roared in the cloudy quiet night over China. "T-minus 20 seconds until we reach the drop zone! We are still undetected by Chinese radars! Status okay, all green! Fox's oxygen system is working! External temperature is -40 degrees Celsius!"

"Stay safe out there soldier!"

Percy stepped closer to the opened back hatch doors of the aircraft. He was fitted in an all-body aviation suit that would protect him from the below-zero temperature of the drop. Underneath this suit was his all-black sneaking suit, which was clinging tightly to his muscles like a flexible cast. Made from aromatic polyamide, it allows the wearer to avoid detection from Chinese radars and AI cameras. Giving the user increased strength, resilience, and armor while being flexible enough to run and jump in. Most important for this mission was how it repressed body heat from appearing on any thermal cameras.

Despite the many layers of hardened suits protecting him from the cold. Perseus Jackson still felt the cold stinging air tearing through him. His heart raced as he took the last few steps closer to the edge of the opened back bay doors. He heard in his ears, "All clear to halo jump!"

He leaped from the aircraft and rolled in the air. This part of the jump always made him excited. He may not have been a son of Zeus, but the excitement of free-falling down to Earth made his adrenaline go into overdrive. As he fell faster and faster down to the Earth. Every breath of oxygen from his respirator made his heartbeat faster and faster. Halo stood for high altitude low opening, a military term he learned about in basic training for the US Army. The opening of his fall was very low, and he had to reach the right target within less than 5 minutes.

Breathe, breathe, breathe, just one more breath. He took deeper breaths and then shorter breaths from his oxygen respirator. He needed to control his breathing, or he'd pass out.

Percy fell through dark grey clouds. His vision was obstructed by milky wet clouds. He stretched out his arms and felt the vale swoosh in his hands as he tumbled down to the Earth. Only five seconds passed before he exited the clouds. While tumbling lower to the Earth, he became amazed by thousands of tall brightly lit skyscrapers as far as the eye could see. Red, purple, gold, and every color under the rainbow became visible through his aviation helmet. Every building was lit up like hundreds of feet tall Christmas trees.

"FOX, are you there!" Percy pushed a switch on the left side of his helmet.

"I'm here!" Percy yelled into the transmission receiver in his helmet.

"This is Gabriel! You're falling half a mile southwest of Dong Lake! Try to land in a dark spot southwest of the mission objective in a forested area known as Hongshan Park. Your objectives for this mission are simple. You are to reach the Wuhan Institute of Virology within an hour, and you are to retrieve the Gain of Function research on the bottom floor of the facility. You are to also inspect to find out if our target Code Talker is working for the Chinese government. He is wheelchair bound and 140 years old."

"He's that old? But how?" Percy asked confused, he made sure to read and listen to the mission briefing before hopping on the plane.

All he heard in the report was the man they were after was named Code Talker. No other information or details were given, until now.

"According to our intelligence reports his real name is George and he was born in 1880 on the Navajo Reservation. He served in the Second World War as a Code Talker for the Marine Corps. His research as a biologist studying vocal cord parasites has given him the ability to prolong life and photosynthesis. He is the most likely suspect who's been colluding with the Chinese Biological Warfare Program. The CBWP started in 1956, but now intelligence is appearing that they're working on the Vocal Cord Parasite!"

"Very interesting, I've heard only rumors of the the vocal cord parasite. The files on them are Top Secret and even though I have TS clearance it's still redacted. All I know is that the Vocal Cord Parasite was used by PMCs in the past for nefarious means. Is Code Talker possibly doing more research into it?"

Percy looked at his altimeter that was strapped to his left. The numbers were in green, and he read 5,000 feet. Percy quickly pulled the cord for his parachute causing the air to be sucked out of his chest by the force of the chute breaking his free fall. The radio clatter in his helmet was distorted, but quickly came back.

"We have very little intelligence into China's biological weapons program. All we know is that PLA general Zhang Shibo made comments in his book on the effectiveness of biological warfare. Made references to how it could be used to get rid of undesirable populations. We received three intelligence reports of the Vocal Cord Parasite being present on the bottom floor of the Wuhan Institute of Virology."

"Noted!" Percy yelled as he steadied the straps of his parachute.

His descent to the earth was going faster than he anticipated. He was aiming his parachute for the dark patch of earth Gabriel said was Hongshan Park. Everywhere else was concrete and lit up like Manhattan.

Wuhan was the ninth largest city in all of China. It was spread over a vast geographic area where the Han River and the Yangzi Rivers met. Unlike other Chinese cities, Wuhan wasn't congested with smog at least in the section he was falling towards. "Ack! Thinking about Beijing makes me wanna puke!" That awful mission still plagued his mind.

He was ordered to steal navy documents, and before leaving China he ate at a restaurant while a smog storm hit. Ruined not only his lungs but his fried rice too.

"FOX, are you okay!"

"I was remembering Beijing!"

"Don't jinx it Fox, this won't be like Beijing. We'll be in the air for the next two and a half hours as your guardian angel! Because of the nanomachine Codec transceiver in your ear, no one else can hear our messages! We can only remain undetected by Chinese radars for so long. When you reach the ground message me back on radio frequency 140.85. Gabriel Out!"

"Finally peace!" Percy muttered to himself.

He looked at the altimeter strapped to his left arm and read 1,250 feet. He started swinging his legs back and forth enjoying the thrill of a nice solid landing. Only to hear loud railway whistles, cars honking, and the obnoxious sound of police sirens in the distance. He read the altimeter again and saw 855 feet above sea level. The dark black shadows of densely packed trees came into view.

Half a minute later, those dark shadowy trees came into view and Percy braced his arms and legs as his parachute crashed through the canopy of trees. For a park, it was very noisy, but as he crashed through tree limbs, his fear of getting noticed increased tenfold. His parachute got caught by a dawn redwood tree limb causing him to dangle in the air.

His chest heaved and all the air in his lungs got sucked out by the sudden stop. Percy slammed the x-shaped buckle strapping him to the parachute. He fell twenty feet from the Dawn Red Wood and slammed down onto a patch of dark earth. Percy rose from his knees and took in his surroundings.

There were yellow light posts all around him. Illuminating grey concrete paths and illuminating a stone monument that rose to two stories. The monument was light grey and built like a traditional Chinese castle. Still hidden in the shadows, Percy walked along the pathways towards the monument. Hongshan Park was mostly desolate, but a small crowd of people was around the monument. A long one-story building surrounded the monument going West, but the mission objective was for him to go north.

Percy took off his aerial gear and set it aside under a tree in the forest, not too far from the monument. He turned on his Codec and said, "Had a bit of a landing. I set my gear not too far from some sort of monument at the park. Might need to send Tao Sun over to get it before Chinese authorities find it."

"This is Gabriel. I'm contacting Tao Sun, he should retrieve the parachute and your gear within half an hour."

"You mean Sun Tao?" Percy said with amusement.

"You and your formalities!" Echoed Gabriel in his ears.

"We fought together in Iraq back when ISIS was sweeping through the area. I went there in twenty-eleven, feels almost like yesterday. Tao Sun was an arms dealer for NATO forces at the time. Helped us win the Proxy. Wasn't much of victory though, we're still fighting there and in between a proxy with Saudi Arabia and Iran."

"Fox, I didn't know you served in Iraq! Learn something new every day. I knew you were stationed in Afghanistan for a good while."

"I did two tours. The first one was rough but my most recent tour wasn't so bad. The whole country will never find peace."

"Speaking of peace, the monument you are looking at is dedicated to Shi Yang, a lawyer and martyr who died in the labor movement of the 1920s. The Wuhan Institute of Virology has a plaque somewhere with a picture of his face."

"How is that going to help me retrieve Code Talker?"

"You don't like interesting facts, Fox?"

"Only if the facts will help me accomplish the mission. You have my geographic location, right?"

"Yes, you are roughly 1300 meters from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Message me when you get to the location or need assistance! Gabriel out!"

Percy turned off his Codec and started sprinting north-west. He ran through Hongshan Park and exited the park roughly 4 minutes later. Still dressed in his sneaking suit, he saw small crowds of people and a ton of cars parked in a parking lot near Bayi Road. Percy ignored the temptation of breaking into one of the parked cars and driving directly to the institute. Instead, He ran underneath the ramp of Dongsan Road by sticking to the iron cast railings under the overpass. It was bumper-to-bumper traffic up above, but below the overpass, Percy was dangling in the air. His hair fell to the earth but he kept on. He was thankful that FOXHOUND finally designed magnetic boots to allow him to walk on any metal surface. The main road to western Wuhan was a six-lane highway he peered at from high above.

"If only it was this easy around Manhattan."

By the time he arrived near the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the time was 5:30 AM. He was deep in the massive city of Wuhan. However, for a major biological research institute it appeared very small with a reddish-pink tiled rooftop. It was a rectangular building with a barbed wire fence surrounding the structure. It was only two stories tall and looked tiny in comparison to the massive blue-roofed China Earthquake Administration building across the street.

Percy used his binoculars to scan inside the barbed wire gate. He saw four PLA soldiers smoking cigarettes in an empty army truck. Three people in yellow hazmat suits were unloading white biological hazard containers from the truck. There were video cameras on every corner of the building including motion detection sensors on the rooftop. It was all in all disappointing and lightly defended.

"This is Fox! I'm here across the street from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. There are only four PLA soldiers and a small team of scientists unloading biological materials from a truck. Are you sure this is the right place? I find it hard to believe Code Talker is here." Percy looked up and saw several drones buzzing fifty meters overhead. "Wait I see some drones overhead."

"I wouldn't worry about drones. Your suit should keep you from being picked up by their cameras. According to CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service), MI5, and the CIA reports. Someone of high importance is here at this location. I've cross-referenced the building plans in Cantonese. The facility itself is impenetrable from the rooftop."

"I can tell. There are too many motion sensors up there and I don't trust that ventilation system. It's already rusty. Doubt there are ultraviolet germicidal irradiation systems set up there."

"Okay I found a way in, but you aren't going to be happy."

Percy shook his head as memories from Beijing flooded his mind, "Oh boy, what are you getting me into this time?"

"There's a manhole cover about 20 meters close to the road. If you head west and follow the sewage corridor you should enter a locked gate. Once you break through the gate it should be on the second bottom floor. According to Canadian Intelligence shared with us by NATO. That floor is where the Chinese are working on chimeric research. If you gain any documents in there record them on the Idroid in your weapons pouch. Gabriel Out!"

Percy put away his binoculars and crouched away in the shadows. He made his way to the manhole Gabriel told him about. It smelled like absolute rotten shit, and he wasn't even in the sewer. Golden light from a streetlamp reflected off a puddle next to the manhole. Percy saw his reflection in the puddle.

His sweat was dripping from his jet-black locks down to his strong jawline. His stubby cheeks needed to be shaved, and his sea-green eyes reflected doubt and something he couldn't put his hands on. His sneak suit armor showed off his heavy six-pack and his tight biceps. He had been 191 cm since he graduated high school, yet he had never been this strong until now. Had he changed? He hadn't ever paid this much attention to himself in several years.

Was it the mission? Was the stress getting to him? No, no, he needed to focus. Without any hesitation he pulled off the manhole cover, releasing an invisible stench that made his eyes cloudy.

"Goddamn it! Better kiss getting a date after this goodbye," Percy said while shaking his head.

He pinched his nose, then he dove right in.

He landed on solid ground. He took out his night vision goggles from his supply pack that was strapped to his back. Placing the goggles over his eyes, he then flipped the switch turning the eyeglass green. He first inspected his black FOXHOUND boots, which were thankfully spared. There was a trench of slow-flowing human waste at the center of the sewer.

He marched west along the sewer corridor. His boots occasionally made squeaking noises in the moist and wet concrete ground. He continued pinching his nose as he walked 30 meters down the corridor.

Black rats squeaked and chirped as he walked past them. Disgusting cockroaches were crawling on the slippery walls, sewer flies buzzed around his face, and even weird large worms flipped out of the sewer water. Percy tried his best not to look at the weird abominations as he made his way down the corridor. As he walked, he came upon a circular cistern. At the center of the cistern was a large rusty pipe that had sewage water dripping down into the center of the room. On the other side of the room were stone steps and no sewage trench.

He ran up the stone steps carefully. He checked his compass and thanked the gods he was still going west. As he continued going up the stone staircase, he was surprised by bright white fluorescent lights beaming from the ceiling. This was some sort of weird scientific research project or maybe something else? Why was the laboratory connected to the sewers?

As he climbed up ten more steps a metal barred gate appeared at the top. Behind the gate was a welcome mat and a door with a keycard to get in. Percy pulled his lockpicking kit out of his supply pack and opened the metal barred gate in less than ten seconds. Turning on his Codec he looked at the door confused.

"Gabriel, are you there?"

"No, this is Alice Hari. I'm working with FOXHOUND for Operation Enlightenment, I'm with Bradley O'Hara right now. You may know him as Big Boss. He's on an important call with the Pentagon right now, however I do have my way around computers. I worked with Hal Emmerick before the Shadow Moses Incident in 2005. What is the problem?"

"My problem is that I'm still in the sewers of Wuhan, China. I unlocked the metal gate leading up to the facility but there's a door that needs a security card to get in. Exactly how am I supposed to proceed now? I may know how to lockpick a door, but these doors that require a keycard have security measures if you breach them with force." Percy felt like he was stating the obvious here.

"Let me see Fox."

"…," Percy was at a loss of words for what to say.

He stared at the grey door leading into the facility with more curiosity. The welcome mat had a Hello Kitty in a once pink dress waving with Chinese characters written on the bottom. The keycard box next to the door had a number code. He switched his night vision goggles to black light mode. The numbers 1, 6, 4, and 0 were lit up like flares in the night. Those numbers had to be the most used.

"Okay, I'm checking the lab's security measures. That door might be unlocked by a simple computer virus, but it appears that I need a code to break into the system. Even though this is a biosafety level 4 lab, their cyber security is written in Python and Sequel. Is there a pin pad on the lock?"

"There's a simple number pin pad with numbers ranging from 0 to 9. The only numbers that have been used are zero, one, four, and six. Is it possible these numbers mean something to China or the PLA?"

Percy felt his Codec flare up, meaning someone else was getting on the line, "This is Sun Tao. Just picked up your stuff at the park, but I've overheard you're trying to solve a number problem. Try the number 1046."

"Wait a minute!" Alice Hari spoke in pure surprise. "How the hell did that work? The door will open any second. Okay, it's unlocked!"

The keycard pad flared a florescent green and Percy heard the door unlocked. He opened it and walked inside a dark and dusty room. Percy looked around with his night vision goggles and saw several empty gurneys that were collecting dust. Beside each gurney were rusty chains and empty fluid supply stands. Percy closed the door behind him, he noticed there wasn't a soul in the room.

"1046, how did you come up with that so fast Sun Tao?" Percy questioned in both curiosity and amazement that his old friend had come to the rescue. "Doubt you pulled that out of your ass."

"I didn't pull it out of my ass. That's an important year in Chinese history, 1046 B.C. was the year when the Mandate of Heaven was proclaimed. Anyway, I'm going back to bed. You stay safe, the building might be old, but I've seen hundreds of PLA soldiers appear unannounced over there."

Percy shut off his Codec and explored the dusty room. He saw nothing of importance. He just found the room creepy as if it once was inhabited by dozens of patients. The room was rectangular, there wasn't much in it besides dust, empty beds, and dried blood. He quickly exited the room from a single door, only to be met with an all-white hallway. Percy took off his night vision goggles and activated his stealth camouflage.

Stealth camouflage rendered the light around him making him appear invisible. The motion-sensing cameras continued turning and weaving back and forth as he walked down the hallway. The door he came from was numbered at the top B2-012. Every room on the floor was numbered the same way with him passing by B2-009 and B2-008.

"Fox, this is Gabriel. I need you to find a room called B2-004. It should be where staffers and people who have Top Secret PLA clearance are keeping files on their bioweapons program."

"Noted," Percy whispered back as he came to the room.

He opened the door using the keycode and was met by total darkness. He turned on his night vision goggles and looked around. He saw two computers that were asleep. He would make a note to Alice or Gabriel about that in a minute. He saw a khaki-colored folder on a desk with a lamp over it. Percy looked over the file, but it was all written in Chinese characters. Taking out his Idroid, he then scanned every page in the folder. His Idroid allowed him to instantly copy and translate any language downloaded onto the device and it would appear holographically in front of him.

A light blue holographic light appeared before his eyes, and he read the form.

Test Subject #3

May 20th, 2019

Report Conducted and written by Liu Cong

I've been searching for answers to what is going on in B3-013. The subject is a woman in perfect health save for her lungs. Thanks to Code Talker's research on the Vocal Cord Parasite, he has reverse-engineered her as a vector, but her ability to speak is still limited due to the surgery. I don't know what I'm supposed to do, she's a nice woman, yet we keep her restrained by those shock chains. I know she's always in pain, she has been in pain since she was captured back in 1986. Testing so far has revealed three very terrible issues with the VCP.

1. The Vocal Cord Parasite has numerous properties that can allow us to cure numerous illnesses. It has been described by Code Talker as the closest thing to Ambrosia or Nectar. In Test Subject #3's case, it has allowed her to essentially stay the same age with perfect reproductive and cardiovascular health for a woman her age. In essence, the parasite has more mutual properties to the host than negative ones given the right host.

2. Lethal injections. We have tested the Vocal Cord Parasite on hundreds of test subjects. However, upon giving people Test Subject #3's specific strain it has been proven to have a 95% lethality to whoever is exposed to the parasite. For people who have that rare 5% gene, it may grant near immortality, abilities, and powers one would consider godlike.

3. Feasibility: This is the most concerning issue with the project. While the VCP can be used to create vectors/carriers that can voice activate the parasite. This has proven to be much more of a hassle since Code Talker escaped Wuhan in 2017. His whereabouts are unknown. Given how deadly the parasite is and how the activation process is unpredictable. Using the VCP as a biological weapon is out of the question for what we need to do in 2020.

Percy turned on his Codec, he was confused by everything he read. Code Talker wasn't here in Wuhan. Then where was he?

"I've found an interesting report on what's going on at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Code Talker isn't here, but there's a test subject whose been infected and is the main vector for the VCP."

"This is Gabriel. Code Talker isn't there, are you sure?"

"Positive. I'm sending the report over by my Idroid. Did you get it?"

"Just got it! Reading over it… this is concerning. Code Talker isn't there, which means he must have defected or disappeared. New mission objective! You are to go to B3-013 and extract this subject. You are to bring them in for questioning!"

"Noted," Percy exclaimed, but he became concerned about something else. "There's something odd about this place. I haven't yet run into anyone inside of here and I still haven't discovered what research the Chinese are working on. From what I've read they've given up on the Vocal Cord Parasite, but I'm not so sure if that's the case."

Percy looked around the room and even peered outside the door's window to make sure no one else was in the hallway. He then heard another ping from his Codec.

"We need you to find out what PLA is working on. From what we know this new biological weapon is centered around virology. The Wuhan Institute of Virology is the world leader in coronavirus research, however, the fact they've been doing human testing on the VCP brings up to question if that's the only thing they're working on."

"I'll keep searching for more answers about Code Talker and this Test Subject. I might be getting old or maybe I feel like I've come upon something bigger than I anticipated," Percy said feeling his bones shake. He rarely felt this much doubt about himself and the current situation. "All I can say is that I'll find out what's going on. One way or another!"

"Good! The world is in your hands, don't fumble the ball while we're this close to the end zone. You have an hour and a half to get out of there! Message me when you discover more information! Just know I have a lot of faith in you! Gabriel out!"

"I think you're putting all your faith in the wrong person," Percy said with a toothy smirk.
