Eliza sat outside in her Impala texting with Eli. He was so happy to have contact with her again he missed her had also looked up and found the number for Marcel and had sent him a selfie and used her phone number so he could contact her as well.

When she saw Caroline walking with Elena she knew class was going to start soon. Getting out of the car she made her way over to them.

"Have you even talked to Bonnie?,"

"No I'm mad at her she has to make the first move,"

"Be the bigger person,"

"Impossible in her presence,"

"Bonnie is going through some stuff Caroline you should be more empathetic to your friend," Eliza commented rolling her eyes.

"Why are you so pissed at her anyways?,"

"She's a thief that's why, I gave her my necklace and she refuses to give it back it's a matter of principle,"

"You mean the crystal that originally belonged to her family not yours in 1864,"

"Alright well I tried I'm officially out of it,"

"Good your turn where's Stefan? Have you talked to him?,"

"Nosy much," Eliza muttered under her breath.

"He's avoiding me,"

"Why?,"

"It's complicated, see you later," Elena and Eliza took off together both having classes in the same building but different subjects.

"Ok bye," Caroline waved them off before awkwardly running into Matt after last night's drunk fiasco.

As everyone took their seats a new teacher walked in.

"Good morning everyone," he said placing his belongings at the desk before turning to the board.

A knock at the classroom door had everyone turning their heads. There in the doorway was Eliza.

"Hi there I'm Eliza Gilbert I was reassigned to this class,"

"Welcome Miss Gilbert have a seat anywhere," he greeted her as she entered the room and sat near Elena giving her a smile.

"Alaric Saltzman, it's a mouthful I know it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Saltzman is of German origin. My family immigrated here in 1765 to Texas, I however was born and raised in Boston. Now the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great grandfather who I will never be able to thank enough. Now you will probably want to pronounce it Al-aric but it's A-laric, ok so you can call me Ric I'm your new history teacher," Eliza had a good feeling about him he seemed like a good guy so far.

At the Salvatore house Stefan laid in bed, the letter he had found from Lexi tucked away in his journal next to his bed making him happy that Eliza and her friends saved her life, when he heard Damon from the corner.

"Rise and shine you'll be late for school,"

"What, what are you doing?,"

"Peace offering," he said holding out a cup of coffee.

"Come on you need it for blood circulation does dead flesh good. Alright i'm sorry,"

"Step aside please,"

"I got the town off our backs it was for the greater good but i'm sorry, and to prove it i'm not going to feed on a human for at least a week, i'll adopt the Stefan diet only nothing with feathers,"

"Because I realize that killing your closest and oldest friend is beyond evil and yet somehow worthy of humor,"

"Are you mimicking me?,"

""Yes Stefan, now that the secret society of vampire haters are off our backs i can go back to my routine of 'how can I destroy Stefan's life this week',"

"And I can go back to sulking and Elena longing and forehead brooding, this is fun I like this,"

"And I will finally reveal the ulterior motive behind my evil and diabolical return to Mystic Falls,"

"Yeah i'm done, this is so like you Damon, always have to have the last word," Stefan just shook his head he doesn't understand why Eliza wouldn't let him hurt him for all he had done.

At school after history Bonnie, Elena, and Eliza sat at a picnic bench talking about her problems for once.

"Then I ended up at the remains of old Fell's church before I woke up back in the woods," as Eliza heard that she knew it was where the tomb was after all it was where her parent's were 'burned' alive.

"And you always see your ancestor Emily?,"

"Wait you see Emily? What does she say?,"

"Do you believe in ghosts?,"

"Two weeks ago i'd say no but now..,"

"I think i'm being haunted,"

"I don't get it why Emily?,"

"Grams said she was a powerful witch in the civil wars day,"

"Understatement she was a bad ass," Eliza spoke up since she knew her but they didn't know that.

"This medallion was hers it's a witches talisman,"

"It all started when you got the necklace?,"

"Look I need to tell you both things but not here why don't you come over tonight Bonnie for a sleepover and we can have a open discussion,"

"Sounds good,"

"I'm in," Bonnie agreed.

"I think she's using it to communicate with me though,"

"What does grams say about it?,"

"I can't call her she's gonna tell me to embrace it, I don't want to embrace it i want it to stop,"

"You should Emily would be a great asset in learning your magic," with that said they all picked up their books as the bell rang for the second half of the day.

Back in the history classroom Jeremy had a meeting with Alaric.

"Hey Mr Saltzman I'm Jeremy Gilbert. You wanted to see me?,"

"You know that your old teacher had a jackass file and that both you and your sister Eliza were in it, though with her I give her credit I heard he made a unfriendly comment about your parent's untimely death and she snapped,"

"Yeah takes a lot to piss off Eliza and he pushed her buttons, she is a great girl you will see that I hear she re entered history now that Tanner is dead,"

"Yes she re joined today,"

"Don't worry about this opus to you and her," Alaric said standing up walking over to the trash can by the door.

"I'm not him, clean slate," he said tossing it in and walking back towards Jeremy.

"Now let's talk about grades,"

"I know it's been a rough couple of months but I've been trying to turn them around, Eliza has been a big help in that case if it wasn't for her I never would have gotten back to where I am now mentally and emotionally or even with my life,"

"Yeah I saw that but the problem is we're halfway through a semester and half a fail is still pretty bleak. This is the part where you say to me 'What can I do to change that?'. Well I'm glad you asked, how do you feel about extra credit?,"

"Yeah yeah totally whatever,"

"Good, write me a paper then,"

"Okay about what?,"

"History. Pick a topic, keep it local. No Wikipedia regurgita. These old towns have a lot of rich history so just get your hands dirty, make it sing, and you're back on track. Deal?,"

"Yeah deal thank you so much Eliza is gonna be so happy she was worried about me and this class,"

"I aim to help when I can," Alaric said as he and Jeremy shook hands.

"That's a cool ring,"

"Oh thanks, it was my father's. A little garish but family you know. You're got a week," he called out as Jeremy made it to the door.

As Jeremy left the class he bumped into Eliza and Jackie in the hallway.

"Ok what's with the smile?,"

"Well for one Ric tossed the file Tanner kept on us clean slate, two he gave me a extra credit project to finish in a week to pick up my grade,"

"That's awesome Jer," Eliza hugged him proud of him.

"Way to go kid," Jackie patted him on the back.

"It has to be on the history of Mystic Falls and I was thinking the mysterious founding family who never lasted in this town,"

"You want to write your report on my family?," Eliza said lowly.

"Properly with respect and only what you feel like telling me,'

"You know what I think it's a great idea do it and i will help ok,"

"Thanks sis," Jeremy said as he took off to meet up with his friends.

It was the end of the day and Eliza and Jackie met up with Elena at the door of the school and walked out to see Stefan sitting on the picnic bench.

Eliza and Jackie slipped off to the side to avoid the awkward situation and let her handle her business.

"Hi,"

"You weren't in class I was worried,"

"Yeah I got your messages and I'm sorry I didn't get back to you but what i wanna say shouldn't be said over the phone,"

"A simple 'I didn't kill my brother' text would have sufficed,"

"I didn't kill my brother as much as he deserved it he has Eliza to thank for that for what she did,"

"What did you wanna tell me?,"

"I won't be coming to school anymore. I'm gonna back off and keep my distance. it's the right thing to do,"

"Back off from school? Or from me?," as she asked he didn't answer which gave her the answer she needed.

"Thank you for telling me,"

"It's better this way,"

"Yep i got it,"

"You're angry, that's good be easier if you hate me," Stefan shoved his hands in his pockets walking away from Elena.

But the thing with curses and fates you can't escape them. Stefan and Elena had been tied for eternity and nothing would change that and soon they would both see that.
