Will was used to the unexpected.
However, even he had to admit this was pretty strange.
He dismounted smoothly, landing on the grass with a quiet thump. His steps were quiet as he circled the stone in the centre of the clearing. It was a large stone, unremarkable except for the fact that it was completely out of place in the forest and had a sword sticking out the top.
You know, normal stone stuff.
Who on earth would spend time putting a sword in a stone? Why would they put it in the middle of the forest? And how exactly had they even managed to put a sword in a stone?
The hilt was cool to the touch and felt uncomfortable in his grasp. He gave it an experimental tug, failing to produce even a hint of movement. He tried again, bracing his feet firmly and straining with all his might. Nothing happened.
He sighed, shook his head, and turned back to Tug. "Swords aren't really my thing anyways."
A/N: I'm back! Still don't own Ranger's Apprentice, but that's alright.
