CHAPTER SEVENTY-THREE
Website where all photos of all outfits mentioned is on my profile. Another short chapter.
Five minutes later the pair of us leave the bathroom, the peed on sticks in the plastic bag and everything else I'd brought jammed into my handbag. Donna follows blankly behind me till we reach the counter where she turns around and buys a huge ice cream before she resumes her almost dazed walk till we get to the car where she stops and turns around.
Her eyes are huge as she looks over the bonnet to me, chocolate ice cream in her hand melting down the stick "I'm having a baby."
I nod and she smiles "I have to tell Ope."
I unlock the car and snicker at her "Well then you might wanna get in the car, unless you plan on telling him over the phone like you did last time."
Donna shakes her head "No. But don't remind me."
When Donna had taken the tests, in my room at the Hale house, she'd rung Ope as the positive signs began showing and blasted him for having super sperm that overpowered her birth control. All I'd heard from the other side of the room was Opie laughing, then the dead silence as he realised what she meant. His bike had been in my drive less than 5 minutes later, his huge body folded to one knee while Donna looked on, tears streaming down her face.
The drive back to Derek's house is silent, Donna keeps glancing at the four sticks in her hand like the results are going to change or the tests will disappear completely. It's not till I'm backing the car into the garage that she opens her mouth "It's horrible that this happened now, but I'm glad it did."
"Why?" I turn in my seat and hit the button so the garage door closes again.
"At least this way you have one good memory from this trip." She says with a smile.
I shrug "I'm going to have just as much a good memory tonight when everyone realises that the dinner tonight is alcohol free."
Donna snickers "Really?"
I nod as we get out of the car "Yep. Derek used to do that depending on what the fund raising was for. Anything to do with children or substance abuse he has a no alcohol consumed during the dinner policy."
"Huh?"
I shrug, leading the way to the house again "They raffle off alcohol, limited edition bottles of this and that, a box of this wine from fourteen hundred and blah-blah, but there is no alcohol consumed during the entire dinner."
"What?" Happy's voice from the other side of the kitchen makes me laugh "Some stuffy suit 'n' tie dinner and no beer?"
I nod and he frowns "Guess I'll have a drink before we leave."
Cam comes through the door to the pantry holding a bag of bread rolls "I guess you can have a beer before we leave, but Daddy is very serious about his alcohol-free fund raisers. To the point that he has breathalysers on the doors." Cam says, matter-of-factly, dropping the rolls onto the bench beside a stack of bacon and a tray of eggs.
Happy looks even more stunned but drops to one of the bar stools and shakes his head. It takes all of five seconds before he suddenly looks at Donna and I "And you two. Disappearing like that. What the fuck?"
I roll my eyes and pat him on the head lightly "Happy its fine. I was only a few blocks away and gone less than 10 minutes."
The sound of the twins giggling and Abel cooing at something gives away the presents of the kids, and their fathers, behind us before either Donna or I turn around but when Donna locks eyes on Opie her entire face splits into a smile so wide that Ope starts looking behind himself to see what she's smiling at.
Al and Juice come through the door and Al joins Cam behind the butchers block and Donna shares a look with me which makes me shrug, the silent question in her eyes an answer only she can decide on.
She takes the twins by their hands, leads them to the stools beside Happy and waits till their sitting looking at her before leaning her head into the middle of them and whispering in their ears. Their identical green eyes widen as she speaks so quietly no one else in the dead silent kitchen can hear. When she pulls back they both look up at her with their saucer eyes till she nods and then there on their feet, flying into their stunned fathers eyes and babbling a mile a minute.
"I hope it's a girl, I want a baby sister." Ellie says her arms wrapped around Opie's neck.
"I want Mommy to have twins again, but boys this time so we outnumber the girl's daddy." Kenny says, burrowing his way between Ellie's arm and Opie's neck.
Opie's eyes widen in a mirror of his children, their voices still going as he walks across the kitchen to where Donna's still standing "Are you...?"
Donna nods, holding up the bag with the four positive pregnancy tests she did in the tiny bathroom of the pharmacy "According to these, yeah."
Opie swings his arms around Donna's waist, both the kids barely hanging on to him as he moves, Donna's feet end up almost at his ankles as he drops kisses over her face, whispering huskily with each kiss that he loves her and he doesn't care what it is, as long as it's a boy.
Juice and I both step forward, lifting Ellie and Kenny from around Opie's neck as Donna finally manages to wrap her arms around her husband and press a kiss to his mouth, the tests falling forgotten to the floor.
