CHAPTER EIGHTY-FIVE

It's a rather quiet group that loads into the cars in the morning, with the exception of Cam who's driving the Viper on this trip, her laughter and huge smile are visible across the parking lot and when we pull into a diner on the outskirts of Moab to get coffee she hugs me tightly and thanks me for buying such an 'awesome' car, quietly contemplating placing an order for one herself.

Happy shakes his head and makes a comment about money being treated like water which makes her snort and lift an eyebrow "Water I conserve, money seems to just appear from behind ears and inside shoes with me."

The reference to shoes is lost on everyone bar Al and I and both of us are still laughing 10 minutes later as we sit around a couple of tables inside waiting for our drinks and the fries with garlic butter that Donna had ordered.

Jax wipes his head in pretend relief, looking over at me and grinning "I'm glad I'm not in the car with her today. But what's so funny about shoes?"

Al ends up having to explain when I can't stop laughing long enough. "Cam is not a huge fan of heels, of any sort, but she brought a pair of Mary Jane's with a really square heel, well two days after she brought them the cap of the heel came off and revealed that the heel was hollow. She made some comment about using it to hide stuff and jammed in a roll of bills before putting the cap back on, well the cap got stuck and wouldn't come back off which was funny in itself." Cam scowls at her and leans back with a huff of exhaled air. "It just got funnier when she told us that the money was for the cash Christmas bonuses for Amy and Terry and her dad was expecting it to be delivered that afternoon."

Al stops explaining as the giggles take over again and Cam sighs hugely "I had to confess to my dad that the money was literally stuck in a shoe, then I had to replace the cash, and tell both Amy and Terry the story behind why I was the one giving them their Christmas bonuses instead of Daddy like normal. Needless to say every Christmas after that I was not given the job of getting the cash."

Happy chuckles as the drinks are set down "So what happened to it?"

"What?" Cam asks, picking up her hot chocolate and taking a sip.

"The cash." Hap replies, rolling his eyes.

Al and I start giggling again and Cam sighs "It's still in the shoe."

Happy shakes his head and squeezes her shoulder "Guess I know where to go if I ever need emergency beer money."

Cam starts laughing and the suddenness of it coupled with her having just taken a mouthful of her drink has hot chocolate spraying across the table, thankfully avoiding all the drinks. Gathering a handful of napkins she cleans the table as she apologises but all of us laughing has her stopping and grumbling under her breath about us being mean.

Because it's less than four hours' drive from Moab to Salt Lake we don't stop mid drive for lunch, instead stopping just inside Salt Lake City limits and eating burgers and fries under a huge pair of golden arches, the kids ecstatic at having McDonalds twice in such a short time and Donna promising that they're be no fast food for at least a couple of months when we get back to Charming.

Reaching the charter clubhouse at 430 the kids immediately run off to play in the sandbox that's in the corner of the lot beside the office. Donna snickers for a second before looking thoughtfully at them.

Opie rests his hand on her shoulder "Jax and I'll make one for them for Christmas, that's coming up fast."

Donna nods and slides her arm around his waist while general conversations between the Salt Lake members and the SAMCRO members start and finish. Being directed to another motel not far away from the hidden away location of the clubhouse isn't surprising, what is surprising is when the Joel tells us the rooms will be free cause the club owns half the motel, and his wife owns the other half.

Making a phone call he tells us that the rooms will be ready for us 'little women' when we get there and seeing it as the cue to leave that it is the four of us women and three children get back in the cars and leave. This time I end up with Cam in my Viper, leaving a cloud of smoke behind me as I let a little of my irritation at being dismissed out through the accelerator. My phone rings before I can make it to the end of the block and I pass it to Cam, shaking my head slightly.

"Hey Jax. No, she's driving and you know she won't talk on the phone when she's behind the wheel. That, and yeah she's pissed at being referred to as your 'little woman'."

I can hear Jax's voice through the phone as he tries to explain, the words don't reach my ears and when Cam chuckles I lift my eyebrow at her. "I think you're pushing shit up hill at the moment. She's currently glaring at the windscreen, she gets that it wasn't you that did that but it still grates. Get it?"

Cam hangs up my phone after another second and drops it into my bag by her foot "You're being unfair you know that don't you?"

I turn my head so rapidly that my hair hits the window and slides over my arm "I beg your pardon?"

Cam shrugs and leans back into her seat "You're being unfair. Jax didn't call you his little woman, the charter president did and you have no idea if he meant it as a compliment, or that's just what he calls wives of his fellow Sons. For all you know it may have been a sign of respect. Jax calls everyone with tits Darlin', well not so much anymore. Gemma calls everyone sweetheart when she wants to get her way. Al calls us honey when she's done something wrong. Everyone has those things that are just part of them. Like you, you call Al Ali-cat when you want her do something. Or Ali-bean when you really want her to do something. And I know I'm in trouble when you call me Camryn, normally it's something that Al dragged me into but you get what I mean."

I sigh and my shoulders droop "I get what you're saying and I guess that means I owe Jax and Joel both apologies, don't I?"

Cam nods once "Yeah you do, that wasn't very mature behaviour back there." She pauses for a long few seconds before grinning over at me "Even if it was fun!"
