Just then, the girls began to smell something.
"Quinn, for goodness sakes you're supposed ta burn incense not spaghetti!" Naomi ranted.
Running into the kitchen, Naomi stirred the spaghetti and turned off the heat.
"I-I'm sorry! Your stories were just so fascinating that I completely forgot about dinner." Quinn apologized.
"the spaghetti's fine, I'm fine and you're fine so there's no need to worry." Naomi commented.
suddenly, smoke began puring from the oven.
"Garlic bread?" Naomi guessed.
Quinn nodded. Naomi turned off the bake and 235 temp oven knobs before grabbing a mitt and opening the oven.
"Well it's charcoal briquettes now." Naomi coughed.
Quinn laughed at Naomi's quick witted humor.
"I pray you didn't try to make any dessert." Naomi hoped.
"Well, I was thinking of making some strawberry cheesecake." Quinn stated.
"If you still wanna do it let's get some box mix, or some adult supervision preferably." Naomi suggested.
"I'll be right back. Can you make some green beans to replace the garlic bread while I'm gone?" Quinn begged.
Naomi nodded and smiled. She decided to call Gunvolt since she wanted to check on him while she was cooking. As a multitasker, Naomi did as much as she could to keep herself busy.
"Hello?" Gunvolt greeted.
"Quinn is a mess." Naomi retorted.
"What happened? Is she okay?" Gunvolt worried.
Naomi could hear Lumen 'humph' in the background.
"One, she's fine. And two, don't tell her stories while she's tryna cook. She WILL burn the spaghetti. And turn the garlic bread inta charcoal briquettes. Then have you fix green beans while she goes to the grocery store ta buy boxed no bake strawberry cheesecake mix. Causing you to constantly worry about her safety until she returns. Ya know, it's odd how I came ta chill an relax but then it got chaotic." Naomi elucidated.
"Joule's wondering if you like Quinn's cooking better than hers." Gunvolt added.
"Uh, I haven't tasted it. An I'm kinda feelin' that when I do I'll be thinking about yours." Naomi replied.
"Do you mean it? I'll practice and maybe you can come over and have dinner sometime." Joule smiled.
"Sounds like a plan. So, how's your day been so far? Not as chaotic as mine I hope." Naomi joked.
"It's been good, nothing out of the ordinary. Did Xiao tell you about the colored and custom protective comic sleeves he found?" Gunvolt answered.
"No, he didn't, that's weird. I'll call him now and see about it." Naomi responded.
"Zeno's calling me, I'll let you know if it's about another mission." Gunvolt commented as Naomi hung up and called Xiao.
"Did you hear about the comic sleeves?" Xiao wondered.
"GV literallly just now told me 'bout em. So, picked any out yet?" Naomi confirmed.
"It's more expensive than the standard sleeves. But, to make the cost more reasonable, the producer makes the sleeves higher grade with stronger and thicker long lasting plastic." Xiao explained.
"By making the price more reasonable I thought you meant they were doing a bogo sale or somethin'. That'll prolly cost ya more than a new comic for just one." Naomi denied.
"They're all first print comics. They're the first ones ever printed. I can't begin to tell you how much searching and money went into that collection." Xiao protested.
"Ya thought a handling them with gloves and dusting them once a year?" Naomi teased.
"It's a lot easier to just get a sleeve." Xiao debated.
"Whatever you want, they're your comics." Naomi spoke as Quinn closed the front door. "Well, Quinn's back an the beans are done. See ya." Naomi finished as she ended the call, turned off the stove and opened the door for Quinn.
Naomi didn't know she slightly startled Quinn.
"Welcome home!" Naomi smiled.
"Eep!" Quinn squeaked.
"Omg! I'm so sorry! Are you okay!? I didn't mean to freak you out honestly I swear." Naomi panicked.
"No, it's okay, I just didn't expect you to be so fast." Quinn joked.
"I have Azure Striker Septima, what did you expect? Slowpoke Rodriguez?" Naomi laughed.
Quinn giggled.
"I remembered I wanted to try that new cookie recipe so I got the ingredients." Quinn informed as she placed the bags of groceries on the counter while Naomi closed the door.
Naomi made plates while Quinn made the cookies. Naomi saw an easy snack and opportunity when 2 chocolate chips fell out of the bag and onto the counter. so, while Quinn was putting the cookie sheeets in the oven, Naomi squirreled away the chocolate chips -which definitely wouldn't last till winter- in her mouth.
"You aren't supposed to have snacks before dinner! It'll spoil your appetite." Quinn fussed.
"Two little chips? Please, and I've never been denied a snack before or after dinner." Naomi remarked.
Naomi and Quinn sat down and ate, telling stories. After the two finished their plates, the girls went to check on the cookies. They were done and pulled out of the oven. A few minutes of cooling made them still warm but ready to eat.
"Quinn, these are teacakes. Why did you get the chocolate chips?" Naomi questioned.
"I did make the cookies, but to keep you from sneaking one I grabbed the teacakes." Quinn explained.
Naomi grabbed 2 napkins she had and put them to her moth. Quinn noticed a 1/4 inch gap between the napkins and caught a glimpse of something tan. Quinn gripped Naomi's left hand while the cookie was directly in front her mouth, -almost- discreetly hidden. Naomi unwillingly gave up the fight and surrenderd the cookie to Quinn.
"I didn't even notice one was missing. You must be one of QUILL's top employees." Quinn remarked.
"Well, I wouldn't go that far..." Naomi doubted.
