I've had a few requests for a Kol&Freya fic, so here's a little one shot. It doesn't take place in direct "Baby Vampire" canon but is an AU of sorts where Freya and Finn were in the picture. If you haven't read "Baby Vampire", this won't make sense.

As the title suggests, there's quite a few Norwegian words and phrases in this fic. To avoid spoilers, I'll put the translations in the end notes. If I get any wrong, please let me know! I tried to do a lot of research on this one.

Freya creeps down the hall. Living in a house full of vampires and hybrids with sensitive hearing has forced her to become sneakier at night. It's not easy to grab a midnight snack then run back to her room. As it is, she woke up Rebekah one night. That girl is not happy when sleep deprived.

Just as she's almost to her room, she hears some screaming. Without thinking of who's door it could be, she pushes it open and runs inside. Kol thrashes about in his bed. Sweat pours down his face as he cries out. His legs and arms thrash every which way. Freya glances at the baby monitor mounted at the top of the ceiling. Why haven't Hayley or Elijah…

Crap. She finally convinced them to take a night away, just the two of them. One of the promises is that she'd keep Kol's monitor with her at all times. She should've brought it down with her to grab the snack.

She races to the bed and sits beside him, gently shaking him.

"Kol," she whispers. His eyes remain shut while he scream. "Kol, sweetheart."

His hand collides with her eye. Freya yelps, rubbing furiously at it. One of the many drawbacks to being the lone mortal in this house. Despite being the oldest, unless she's using magic, her siblings have more strength.

Kol's eyes flicker open as Freya continues to rub at her own. He stares at her for a moment before bursting into tears. Freya frowns, gently caressing his hair.

"Shhh, sweet boy, it's okay."

"I…I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry. You were scared."

"G…gave you boo boo."

The wording alongside Kol's wide eyes and trembling lip tell her that he's dropped. She hasn't had to handle Little Kol on her own before. Usually, she witnesses one of her brothers or Hayley carrying him around.

"It'll heal," she soothes. "It's quite alright, I'm not upset."

Kol whines, kicking his legs. "Mama. Dada."

"They're at the hotel for the evening, remember?" Freya continues to caress his hair. "You wanted them to have fun, so I'm looking out for you."

"Want Dada," Kol whimpers. "Want Mama's nummies."

"Well, I cannot help with your father being here, but I can with your milk."

Freya mutters a quick spell beneath her breath. A baby bottle filled with Hayley's pumped milk appears on the nightstand.

"See, storesøster took care of it. May I hold you?"

Kol's lip trembles. "Mama."

"Mama will be back in the morning," Freya promises, her heart breaking a tad. "For now, storesøster is here. Let me cuddle with you and you can have tåteflasken din."

Freya lays beside him and wraps him into her arms. Kol tenses a bit. She softly hums as she reaches over and grabs the bottle. Kol opens his mouth and allows her to slip in the nipple. He takes a few small sips. Little by little, he eases up and leans against the crook of her arm.

The older sister smiles down at her baby brother. She wonders how he can look like a teenager and yet feel no older than 2. How she wishes there were cameras back then so she could see all her siblings through the ages. She remembers Finn. He was such a cute baby, tall from birth. All of her siblings gained their mother's height. Kol is just an inch taller than her and yet, in this moment, he seems so small.

The classification system was not a thing prior to her curse. Yet, it took very little getting used to. As soon as she saw the way that her siblings tended to Kol, Marcel and April, there was no doubt in her mind that this is best for them.

Kol makes tiny sucking noises as he drinks his mother's milk. Freya softly coos in her native tongue.

"For en søt gutt. Søsters dyrebare lillebror."

Kol's brows furrow in confusion. Freya sighs. Their parents did not raise her youngest 5 siblings knowing Norwegian. They moved to what would later be discovered as America shortly after her "death" and assimilated with that culture. Finn remembers a lot from their childhood. Elijah, Rebekah and Klaus took it upon themselves to learn during their 1,000 years. Yet, given how often her youngest brother was daggered, he is still learning.

"I said, what a sweet baby boy." Kol blushes. "Sister's precious baby brother."

Kol nods, returning back to his bottle. Freya rubs his stomach, helping it from becoming unsettled. It doesn't take him long to finish up. She moves him to her shoulder and firmly pats his back until she hears the burp.

"There, there, good job." Freya kisses his temple and he moves back to the crook of her arm. "Did you have a bad dream?" Kol nods. "Would you like to tell me about it?"

Kol frowns. "Back in the coffin," he whispers. "But awake. Couldn't breathe."

Freya frowns, shaking her head. "Oh, that had to be so scary. I'm so sorry." She kisses his forehead and he sniffles. "I will never let that happen. No one will."

"Niky nice now."

"Yes, he is. He loves his baby brother so much." Freya strokes his hair. "No more daggers or coffins. You'll stay with us."

"Promise?"

"I promise, kjære. I just got you in my life. No way will I let you go. How else will I learn all about my liten rev."

Kol tilts his head. Freya feels a pang of guilt. The Norwegian slips so easily. She needs to get better about translating. Though, Elijah has told her not to. He says it's the only way Kol shall learn, through exposure.

"Little…"

"Fox, little fox," Freya explains. "Klaus told me it's what they used to call you."

Kol smiles a little. "'Cause I played tricks. Niky is a wolfie. Dada's a horsie." Freya holds back a smile at him forgetting the word "stag". "Bex is a swan." He giggles. "Finny's a boar. 'Cause he's boring."

Freya chuckles, rolling her eyes only slightly. "You didn't know him when he was small. He was quite fun."

"Nuh uh."

"Yes, he was. But, I'm his storesøster, so I see him much differently."

Kol is quiet for a moment. Freya exhales through her nose. She is becoming aware of how much Finn has changed over the years, as well as adjusting to the stories of who her parents came to be. They were once such a happy family. How could things have changed so much? She doesn't wish to undermine the pain and trauma the younger ones went through. And yet, she doesn't want to let go of what she knows to be true.

"Raven," Kol mutters.

"What's that?"

"You're a raven. 'Cause you're quiet and smart. You watch us." Kol twirls his finger around one of her golden curls. "Ravens are magical. You still have magic."

Freya blinks her eyes to rid herself of the tears. She never imagined her siblings would bestow her with an animal. That seemed like something that came about long before her.

"I tell Niky to make you one," Kol promises. "'Cause family. Always and forever."

"Always and forever," Freya promises. She strokes his cheek. Kol yawns, rubbing at his eyes. Freya reaches around in the sheets, looking for his pacifier. "We can discuss it in the morning. For now, you must sleep." Kol clings to her nightshirt. "Not to worry, I shall stay with you."

Kol nods, easing a bit. "Takk, storesøster." In the midst of his sleepy eyes, he looks to her for approval.

"Yes, very good, litten rev," she praises, lightly pinching his cheek.

Freya locates the pacifier and slips it into his mouth. Not long after sucking, Kol's eyes shut. Freya gazes down at him lovingly. She presses one last kiss to his forehead.

"Drøm søtt, min lille rev," she whispers. "Jeg elsker deg."

Translations:
storesøster = big sister
tåteflasken din = your (baby) bottle
kjære = sweetheart
Takk, storesøster = thank you, big sister
Drøm søtt, min lille rev. Jeg elsker deg. = Sweet dreams, my little fox. I love you.

I may eventually do another spin off to "Baby Vampire" focusing on the whole family, especially Kol's dynamics with Finn and Freya as I quite enjoyed writing these two.

Anyway, let me know what you think! As always, feel free to leave prompts or ask me questions! I am on Tumblr and love communicating on there, as well as in the comments!
