As soon as they were back on dry land, Bobby vowed they'd never step foot in water again. He winced when Buck dropped to his knees and promptly vomited. "Yeah, that sounds about right. You okay, kid?" he checked as Eddie hurried over to check on him.
Buck gave him a thumb's up in response. "Fine," he rasped.
Bobby, now parked on the ground, waiting for an ambulance and his wife (safe, according to Hen), turned his head and also proceeded to vomit. "Pretty sure we should just start doing shit we hate because everything we love is cursed," he muttered after wiping his mouth.
Buck chuckled as he stood up with Eddie's help. Pulling himself together to help everyone else in need of medical attention, he directed his gaze towards Bobby. "How are you?" he frantically checked again.
"I'm fine. Little worse for wear and definitely banged up but nothing major." He was more worried about Athena - they had separated at one point to help passengers in distress and hadn't seen each other since.
"I want you checked out at the hospital anyway. Ambulance now," Chimney ordered.
"He's right. You're going to the hospital," Buck dictated.
Bobby finally went to stand up but realized he couldn't move. He also felt like he was swaying a bit. "I made a mistake sitting," he reluctantly admitted.
"Still feel like you're on the ship?" Chimney asked knowingly. He and Eddie helped Bobby stand and proceeded to wrangle him over to an ambulance.
And that's when Bobby finally laid eyes on Athena, being carried to safety by Hen, who called over an ambulance. "Athena!" he yelled, desperately needing to be by her side.
"You'll see each other at the hospital," Eddie soothed.
Bobby started fighting him in an attempt to force his way out of the ambulance, but all the adrenaline had faded and he didn't have the energy to do much of anything. "Athena!"
"You're both going to the same hospital. You'll see her soon," Eddie assured him as the doors closed and they finally started the journey to the nearest hospital.
Bobby's heart pounded in his chest, fear for his wife overwhelming him. "Athena," he murmured.
"Almost there, Bobby. You're both safe now, Cap." Eddie bit his lip as he checked Bobby's vitals again, glancing over his various injuries (mostly just cuts and bruises - he had gotten lucky once more).
Bobby tried to insist that he needed an update on Athena before the doctors checked him out but none of them were going for it, which only served to piss him off. He couldn't stop picturing the ship sinking and the noises it had made going down - this trip would haunt him for a long time. They'd both been so excited about the cruise and of course it had all gone to hell. At least this had happened when they were on their way home - everything had been fine and fun beforehand.
As suspected, Bobby only had some minor abrasions and numerous bruises, and he was cleared for discharge. As soon as he entered the waiting room, Hen jumped up first. "Where is she?" he demanded.
"Sit down," Hen chided. "Bobby, you look like you're ready to fall over. And why are you still wearing your soaked clothes?"
"I called May earlier to tell her and she's bringing dry clothes with her," Chimney informed Bobby.
Bobby cringed - their daughter was probably going to be panicked and completely frantic when she arrived.
Buck and Eddie ushered Bobby to a chair. "Somebody tell me what happened," he demanded.
Hen blew out a breath, looking nervous. "Athena drowned but I managed to revive her. Took a while, however."
Bobby froze, thankful he was sitting. "Fuck," he muttered. He looked over at an obviously still shaken Buck. "Everything alright, kid?"
"It will be."
"I'll make sure he's fine. You sure you don't want to talk to Christopher?" a concerned Eddie pressed.
Buck shook his head. "Don't want to scare him. I'll talk to him once I've come down from the adrenaline rush."
A nurse came in then, asking for Athena's family. Bobby bolted up, nearly sagging in relief when they informed him his wife would be fine, but they planned to admit Athena for observation. "Tell her hi for us," Hen murmured.
Bobby was about to head over to Athena's room when May burst into the hospital. She ran to her father and hugged him. "Are you okay?" she asked, her voice shaky.
"Your mother and I will recover," Bobby promised. He dropped a kiss on her head, now suddenly realizing how sopping wet he truly was. Maybe he should have stayed in the hospital gown until his daughter arrived but at least May had brought clean, dry clothes with her. He'd change after making sure for himself that Athena was safe and alive.
Much to their relief, Athena cracked an eye open as soon as they entered her room. "My loves," she murmured. She glanced up and down Bobby's body. "Are you hurt?"
"Just some minor injuries, nothing to worry about," he assured her. He glanced at the medical equipment then looked up and down her body in an attempt to reassure himself.
"Why didn't you tell anybody you were going on a cruise? Always tell people where you are!" May chided after gently hugging her mother.
"We'll never do it again. Of course, cruises are completely out but vacations may be too. Pretty sure water hates the whole team and has a vendetta against us for some reason." Bobby huffed out a laugh.
"Go change. May will keep an eye on me," Athena teased.
Bobby gave her a quick kiss then headed into the bathroom to change, which he did in record time. Sighing in relief now that he was dry, Bobby plopped himself down on the chair next to the bed and grabbed Athena's hand. "Love you, baby. Don't ever scare me like that again."
She raised an eyebrow at him. "Don't you ever scare me like that again, Bobby Nash."
"Neither of you are allowed to scare the shit out of me," May interjected, and they both laughed.
The events of the day quickly caught up to Athena, and she drifted off to sleep about ten minutes later. Bobby wanted to sleep himself but wasn't sure he'd be able to after the horrors they'd suffered today. He yawned. "Go home - we'll be fine."
A skeptical May stared at him. "You want me to get you something to eat? You must be starving."
"Maybe later."
"Neither of you have to worry about anything because I'll take care of anything you need." May hugged him then left the room.
When the hospital began arranging for her discharge later, Athena started joking about the sinking in order to lighten everything up. "I didn't expect to Poseidon Adventure this bitch but you live and learn," she deadpanned.
He scoffed. "Titanic 2: Electric Boogaloo?" he shot back with a laugh.
"Good to see you two can find the humor in any traumatic situation but let's spring Mom and go home." May didn't plan on letting either of them out of her sight for a while.
This latest trauma would definitely haunt them for the rest of their lives but Bobby and Athena were just thankful they had each other and both of them had survived. They'd be able to get through anything as long as they had one another. Their daughter and the rest of the team would be there to assist them and chip in whenever they needed help.
