"Are you sure that this will work, Mr. Viceroy?" the Ninja asked as he was handed a small device. The only design it had were four small screens, a red button below them, and Viceroy's signature.
Viceroy heaved a sigh. "It has to. We don't have any other choice," he said somberly. The Ninja scrutinized the object in his hand, then he looked to the window of their hidden base, where he could see the outside world. The town they once called Norrisville was now just a ruin. There was nothing but broken buildings, posts, and dead people in it.
The Ninja shivered at the sight. He had failed as the Ninja, so he had asked for the Nomicon's help one more time before it advised him to go find Viceroy. He nearly lost the mad scientist during the chaos, but he thanked the stars that he got to Viceroy on time.
"So how do I start this thing?" he asked nervously.
Viceroy took the device from the Ninja's hands and began tapping on the screens. The Ninja scooted over to see what the scientist was doing. He could see Viceroy putting down numbers.
Viceroy moved out of the way to show the Ninja what exactly he was doing. The screen showed the number 2013. "The year 2013, I'm not sure on what month and day you'll go to, but I am certain that this is when you can find your predecessor. The previous ninja that defeated the Sorcerer," he handed the device back to the Ninja, who took it cautiously. "Once you reach that year, you have to find me, McFist, and that Ninja before the timer runs out."
The Ninja gulped. "Okay, that's a lot of pressure to process," he said, looking at the (sort of) mini -time machine in his hands.
Viceroy nodded, he knew how much weight he was putting on this Ninja as well. "Nevertheless, the time calls for it. Be careful and make sure you find him, alright? Good luck, Ninja. The fate of Norrisville depends on it."
The Ninja nodded. He took a few more deep breaths to psych himself up, before he looked at the device one last time.
He pressed the button.
"–I wanna take it out for a spin," McFist said, "You know, tires. Destroy the Ninja!"
"And I'd be more than happy to do that," Viceroy said with faux cheer before the deadpan tone came back, "When I get back."
"FINE! I'll do it myself," McFist's loud voice replied. He was walking towards the controls when a flash of light distracted him. Viceroy, too, saw the flash and turned his head to see what had just happened.
In front of them was the Ninja, but his suit looked different and his eyes were no longer the dark blue ones that Viceroy had noted in his study of the Ninja's appearance. They were hazel-colored instead. Viceroy stood up from where he was lying down to inspect the "Ninja" further. McFist, on the other hand, had other ideas.
"NINJA!" McFist shouted furiously, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
The Ninja didn't look fazed. He didn't look like he was listening to McFist at all, actually. He was clutching his head and swaying a bit from where he stood. "Ah, cheese, time traveling sucks," the Ninja mumbled loudly to himself.
Viceroy perked up at that. "Time traveling?" he asked. That didn't explain why the Ninja's suit and eyes looked different from just last week, but it was a lead they could follow.
The adults let out a yelp when the Ninja suddenly got his bearings back together and ran towards them. "Oh, thank bruce. Mr. Viceroy, what year is it?"
A bit surprised that the Ninja came to him instead of McFist, he stuttered out, "2013? Are you really from the future, Ninja?"
The Ninja's eyes widened from under the mask, Viceroy could tell. "Holy juice, it honking worked," the Ninja was about to celebrate, but he stopped himself when he heard a beep come from the device he was holding.
Upon closer inspection, Viceroy was shocked to find out that it was one of his creations, if the signature meant anything. It looked much more advanced than the one he had come up with so far, so that was more proof for them that this Ninja was legit.
"Uh-oh, no time for celebrations. Mr. McFist, Mr. Viceroy, you both have to come with me," the Ninja said quickly as he started pressing the screens of the device.
McFist sneered, but backed away, "And who do you think you are bossing me arou–!?" he never got to finish that sentence as the Ninja pressed the button and zapped him. He disappeared.
Viceroy was spooked, "Where did he go!?" he yelled.
"Don't worry, Sir. He's going to be fine." Viceroy turned his head from where McFist disappeared to where the Ninja was. The hero was pointing the device at him and zapped. He felt himself getting transported somewhere else.
"Both of you will be fine."
"–which is why we're gonna practice having a safe day, the NINJA way."
Principal Slimovitz said as he walked towards the board with a stick in hand. He was reading out the acronym, while Randy spoke to Howard quietly, trying to reason with the red-head.
"C'mon Howard, don't be so sensitive," Randy begged, "This is our thing. This is what we do!"
Howard crossed his arms with a stink eye, "Oh, no Cunningham. This time you crossed the line!" he whisper-shouted back.
"So, now you know what to do—"
The Principal was caught off when a light flashed just beside him. He yelped and backed away quickly.
Randy's attention went from Howard to the flash in a matter of seconds. He gasped when the light had faded and revealed it to be another Ninja. He looked at the "Ninja" on the stage in confusion.
"Okay, I'm getting a weird sense of deja vu, here," he said as he started fumbling with the inside of his jacket in search of his mask. "Where the honk is it!?"
"Does anyone know where the Ninja is!?" the stranger who was 'imitating' him asked. Randy started searching for the mask on his pants' pockets in frustration.
Some random kid in the crowd pointed to Howard, "He's right there!"
The "Ninja" turned to Howard, who squeaked and didn't know what to do, he waved his hand awkwardly. "Ninja" examined him more before he rolled his eyes and shook his head in exasperation.
"I meant the real Ninja of Norrisville. Does anyone know where he is?"
Randy groaned, frustrated. He glanced at Howard, who was also looking at him just in time as the "Ninja" in front of them asked that. Randy broke eye-contact with him and stared at the other on stage.
Then, he saw it. The Ninjanomicon on this Ninja's sash. It started to glow, and the Ninja noticed. He began looking around at each of the students before his eyes landed on him, and Randy's breath stopped.
The glow from the Ninja's Nomicon intensified and Randy knew that whatever was going to happen, it was going to be long and tiresome.
The "Ninja" jumped and stood in front of him, making him take a step back in shock. "Alright, we don't have much time. You need to–" He stopped when the device he was holding–Randy hadn't even noticed he was holding that–started to beep in a high-pitched, out-of-tune way. The "Ninja's" eyes widened. "NO!"
Randy didn't know what that meant, but before he could react, the device the "Ninja" held exploded in front of them, and everything started to turn black.
Somewhere inside the school, the NinjaNomicon began to glow intensively.
