Chaos ensued in all directions. The sound of grunts, battle cries, and blades on blades rang throughout the air. The years of training allowed Amdiriel's body to move without thought. She sidestepped an orc's blade just as her cousin, Elrohir's blade flew past her and into the face of the orc. Amdiriel had no time to fuss with the blood that squirted on her arm as she pulled the dagger from the dead corps while kicking it into the orcs behind them before she threw it into the stomach of the orc that was about to attack Elrohir who shared a knowing smirk with her. Amdiriel stabbed the orc in front of her before swinging to remove the head of the one next to it. Amdiriel kept a look out for those around her, quietly counting to make sure those nearest to her were still standing. Amdiriel's sword clashed with the axe of the next orc. The creature growled as he tried to aim for her head but she blocked it before she went low to slice through its legs. Amdiriel spun as she heard a screech behind her only to be met with the orc, frozen in its place before it fell to the ground motionless. Amdiriel glanced at her savior, Aragorn before she grabbed the dagger at her belt and threw it at the oncoming orc. They spoke with their eyes as they then stood back-to-back, re-engaging in the fight around them. The two moved seamlessly as they spun, fought, defended, and watched over the other and those around them.
Suddenly, a familiar screech was heard through the air. Amdiriel's eyes shot up as she watched some of the Nazgûls appear, some riding their dragons while other dragons were riderless. Amdiriel's head turned as she tried to come up with the plan as the Nazgûl headed straight for them. Helas, the battle around them rendered them all helpless to the incoming attack. Amdiriel was forced back into the battle as an orc's blade swung at her head. She quickly ducked while moving her own across its stomach. The orc fell to the ground immediately as she then heard the stretching of eagles. "The Eagles! The Eagles are coming!" she heard as she looked up to the sky the giant bird came down from the mist of the clouds and joined into the fight with the winged beast and their riders, with it a small spark of hope as she looked to Mount Doom. Amdiriel then let her elbow fly backward into the nose of the orc behind her. She then turned, grabbing its hand, stopping the blade that was about to come down on her before she swung her sword across its stomach, using the momentum, she continued the motion, cutting into several others as she turned. Releasing the beast, she thrusted her blade upwards, slicing through the ocr flesh before her blade clashed with her next enemy. The orc blocked her first swing but faltered when she spun around and counted out his legs from under him.
A large roar was then heard by Amdiriel as she stopped and spun around to find Aragorn already charging at an armored cave troll. Amdiriel could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she pushed her way through the crowd, her eyes trained on the duel between the man and the troll. Aragorn tries to go for a fatal blow the troll blocks each of his attempts. After what feels like a lifetime, Amdiriel joins his side. Aragorn sidestepped the troll as it tried to bring its blade down on him, he then swung at the arm holding the troll's sword, causing the creature to cry out in pain but not let go of his blade. The creature started to thrust its blade upwards but Aragorn countered slashing his own against it. Amdiriel swung at the same arm that Aragorn had just hit, cutting deeper into its flesh. This time the creature dropped his weapon as it screeched in pain, the troll brought its other fist back attempting to swing at the couple but Aragorn ducked out of the way while Amdiriel saw her chance and jumped onto the creature. Aragorn is about to yell at her but then remembers she had done something similar in the Moria. He turns to see if he can find his elf friend but he is engaged in the fight around him and too far away. Aragorn knew it would be too late. The troll let out a roar as it tried to reach for Amdiriel, now on its back. Aragorn and Amdiriel locked eyes for a moment as Aragorn reached for his elven dagger. Amdiriel then drove her sword into the back of the troll. The cry of pain filled the air as the creature thrashed, it then got hold of Amdiriel who was trying to hold on, and threw her to the ground. Aragorn let out a war cry as his blade then flew through the air and into the throat of the troll. Its cries stopped as it then fell to the ground dead.
Aragorn rushed to Amdriel's side as she groaned as he helped her to her feet. "Are you alright?" he asked. Here only reply is "That is going to hurt tomorrow." The two then quickly grabbed their weapons from the dead troll and were about to reengage into the fight with the orcs that seemed almost fearful of the couple but suddenly the air around them changed direction.
The ground then below their feet began to shift as suddenly a bright light came from behind them causing all movement around them to stop. Everyone turned as the light became brighter and brighter, blinding all. Amdiriel and Aragorn covered their eyes with their hands until it subsided. When they lowered their hands it seemed that all breath had been taken from their lungs. Stories of the past had to be told for everyone to recognize who stood before them, the paintings of old justified his appearance. Amdiriel looked behind them and still saw the Eye above the tower. She questioned how it was even possible. They had been told that Sauron was not strong enough to take physical form. Though she remembered how long that information had been passed to them or maybe they had been played and Sauron was buying his time to reveal himself at the perfect moment. Which was true, Amdiriel did not know nor did she have time to care as they stood before their greatest enemy, the one that was the cause of so much suffering dating back to their days of her Isildur, the one that had hunted them for so long. Amdiriel knew that without the destruction of the Ring, they would not be able to defeat Sauron, she feared that History would repeat itself, or that she and Aragorn would die trying to defeat the one that had lingered in their nightmares since childhood.
Sauron stood there with a sword in his right hand and a staff in the other. Both Aragorn and Amdiriel know this would be their biggest test yet. "Aragorn...Amdiriel...King and Queen of Gondor." Sauron spoke. Amdiriel and Aragorn then looked at each other, their eyes speaking everything they could not say. It ranged from a 'Let's finish this' to an "I love you'. Their lips met in the middle as they shared what might be their last kiss.
With a war cry, the two ran at the dark lord, trying to attack from opposite sides. Sauron's height and arms kept the two warriors from being able to move in for a fatal blow. Amdiriel swung her sword in front of her, stopping the staff in its tracks before spinning out of the way and striking at his shoulder, her blade clashing loudly with Sauron's armor but not making a dent. Amdiriel raised her sword over her head, blocking another attack, she could feel her arms shake slightly with the weight of the staff. Duck, swing, block, swing duck, seemed to be the pattern for both Amdirel and Aragorn as they failed to get close enough to stab the dark lord. Sauron's staff swung again causing Amdiriel to duck out of the way again but she rose back up too quickly, not anticipating that Sauron would bring his staff back so quickly—the top of the staff catching Amdiriel in the chest. Aragorn watched terrified as he watched Amdiriel fly through the air "Amdi!" he cried as she landed somewhere behind the Sauron. Enraged Aragorn swung harder at the dark lord, aiming high and then countering before swinging again. Aragorn stumbled back as he moved to avoid Sauron's staff. He immediately found his footing and swung his blade again, this time hitting Sauron in the right shoulder and then again in the left collarbone area. Still, the Sauron countered his next attack with his blade, thrusting it upwards sending Aragorn flying back a few feet onto his stomach.
Sauron looked at the should-be king and then behind him to the should-be queen. There lay the leaders of Middle-Earth defeated all he had to do was finish the two and all hope would fade. Sauron was going to finish off the king first but then changed direction when he saw Amdiriel start to move. Amdiriel pushed herself onto her back, her hand reaching for her rib cage. She figured they were probably broken by now. "Amdiriel!" she heard her twin cousins cry out causing her to glance in their direction but they were blocked by the dark lord advancing on her. Amdiriel scrambled away as she reached for her weapon just on the other side of her. "No!" she heard Aragorn cry out as the dark lord spun around and countered Aragorn's attack. Amdiriel watched in terror as she got to her feet but saw Sauron swipe his staff under Aragorn's legs. "Aragorn!" Amdiriel cried out causing Legolas to see witness, his best friend rolling on the ground, evading the attacks of the dark lord. Legolas attempted to get to his friend but like Elrohir and Elladan was pushed back by enemy forces. "Aragorn!" Legolas cries out when he sees his friend attempting to get to his feet but is crushed to the ground by Sauron's boot. Sauron then lets out a screech of pain as a blade now appears to have pierced through his back and into his stomach. Amdiriel did not let go of her blade and attempted to drive it further in but Sauron had somehow caught her and threw her to the ground a few feet above Aragorn. During that time Sauron had dropped his staff and moved his foot off Aragorn who went to reach for his sword just a few inches out of his reach above him. "Aragorn!" Amdiriel yelled as he turned back to see Sauron now standing over him again, holding his sword above his head to deliver the final blow. Aragorn looked back above himself, he knew if he were to die he wanted to see the love of his life one last time, so she knew that he loved her. He looked and saw her roll on her side, grabbing onto Anduril's blade with her bare hands, not caring for how it would cut into them as she then thrust the blade forward, sending the handle into Aragon's hands. Just as Sauron's final blow was coming, Aragorn shifted out of the way, letting out a final war cry as he sat up and thrust his blade into Sauron's stomach.
The dark lord staggered back as he let out another loud and painful screech. He now stood there in what seemed to be disbelief as both blades of the Kings and Queens of Gondor stuck out of his stomach. The wounds seem to glow suddenly, the light in the wounds getting brighter and brighter, each person and creature now looking on at the scene. The wind began to swirl around the dark lord, causing some to stumble due to the force of the wind. Amdiriel watched in disbelief, not knowing when Aragorn had crawled towards her but he now sat on his knees, still facing the dark lord with one arm out in front of her as if to protect her. The light got brighter until it engulfed the Sauron and vaporized the dark lord, letting out a gust of wind, causing his destruction. Aragorn wrapped his arms around Amdiriel, shielding her from any danger he was sure might come from the scene in front of them. After the wind passed them, Aragorn released Amdiriel to look back to where Sauron once stood. Amdiriel and Aragorn look in disbelief as their swords, Sauron's cape, weapons, and head are now laid on the ground.
Just then another horrible screech comes from Mordor but this time it wasn't the Nazgûl...it was the Eye.
All the attention was now turned to the Eye that screamed as if it were in pain. The orcs all around them seem to realize what is happening and begin to run away while everyone else especially the members of the Fellowship starts wide-eyed as the tower of the Eye then started to crumble. Amdiriel and Aragorn both now get to their feet and are soon joined by Legolas, Elladan, and Elrohir. Amdiriel's bleeding hand reached for Aragorn's bruised one as they watched the Eye grow smaller and smaller until it disappeared completely. Once it had a great gust of wind flew from the tower, picking up the dirt and dust, and destroying everything in its path.
"Frodo! Frodo!" Merry yelled out triumphantly. They did it. A different form of joy took over each person, some cheered, some laughed, and some held tears in their eyes as they watched the ground of Mordor then started to cave in on itself, swallowing all darkness with it.
Suddenly a loud neighing of a horse was heard. Amdiriel turned to see Rohal standing with Shadowfax, Brego, and several other wild horses at the top of the hill. "Rohal," Amdiriel whispered to herself as her loyal friend neighed again before leading the charge. Amdiriel watched as the horses trampled over the fleeing orcs, while some managed to flee the horses were doing what they could to stop some of them.
Suddenly Mount Doom explodes causing all to turn back to the mountain. The joy that once flooded the bodies of the fellowship, Ellandan, Elrohir, and Eomer now turned to despair. No one believed that Frodo and Sam could have made it out of the firey cavern before it exploded, therefore it led many to believe that they had just witnessed their friend's death. The tears began to gather in all of their eyes... this was not how it was supposed to go. The hobbits were supposed to go home, live in their cozy homes, have families, and live until their old age.
Amdiriel looked up to the sky and saw the eagles circling above them. "Gandalf?" Amdiriel asked with a crack in her voice as she turned to look at the wizard, his tears falling down his face as he looked at her. "I will send word when I find them." was all the wizard said before he lifted his arms into the sky. Suddenly one of the eagles swooped down and grabbed onto the wizard before retaking to the sky and heading towards Mount Doom
Amdiriel looked around her, seeing their men cheering in victory. While they had possibly lost two members of their fellowship just then they had also just defeated the greatest threat of their lives. Amdiriel and Aragorn locked eyes instantly pulling each other into their arms. Once they pulled away, Aragorn let Amdiriel's bloody palm caress his cheek while he did the same to her. He cared not for the blood and sweat that covered the both of them, they had nearly lost each other again this time forever and now the long war that they had been fighting in their entire lives was over. They had won against impossible odds and even after all the years and obstacles their love for each other remained. Aragorn kissed Amdiriel passionately. "I love you," he whispered against her lips. "I love you too," she said as a tear slid down her cheek. Aragorn wiped the stray tear away before kissing her again. The two broke apart and were embarrassed by their friends and family.
Loud neighing rings through the air, Rohal galloped right up to Amdiriel. The horse frantically moved his head about as he circled his rider, almost as if to check on her. "I am alright. I'm alright." she told him as she petted his mane, leaning her head upon his like she did when they said goodbye. "Thank you." she whispered causing him to neigh in response. Amdiriel then turned back to Aragorn who was staring down at the remains of Sauron. The two slowly made their way over and picked up their weapons. After sheathing them, they looked at each other for a moment before glancing back to the ground and picking up the remains. Aragorn picked up the sword and cape while Amdiriel grabbed the staff and head of Sauron. The others watched as the two walked over to the edge of the cliff, where Mordor once laid. Taking in a deep breath, the two glanced at the items in their hands before dropping them over the ledge, watching as they fell into the ambis.
Amdiriel could start to feel the severity of her wounds as the adrenaline of the battle wore off. She reached for her side as her bruised, possibly broken ribs and bleeding palms began to ache. Aragorn immediately noticed. "Let's go home, Captain." she told her with a smile as he put her arm around his shoulder to help her walk over to Rohal but the horse was trotting over to the two already. "Let's go home, my King." Amdiriel replied as Aragorn helped her mount her stead before mounting his own, together the two led their men back home.
