Hey all! Happy New Year! Sorry it's been so long since my last update. My health has been all over the place and I'm finally feeling good enough to write. I'm hoping to ride this wave, but I will be honest that I'm unsure whether I will have a schedule as there are okay days (I can leave my bed) or bad days (completely immobile). I hope you enjoy the chapter and I'm sorry if it isn't all that great.
When Klary came to, she found herself enveloped in darkness. Her body frozen as she floated. Eyes closed. She wasn't sure how long she had been there. Time seemed to stand still. Became nonexistant the longer she remained. She could feel a coldness take over her body. Nothing like how it felt when she had been with 12, Bill and Nardole. Slowly she could feel herself losing consciousness.
"Klary." The voice a whisper.
Her body shook. Ears ringing as they tried to retain the silence she had been engulfed in. As her mind started to catch up, she could feel something solid against her. Arms wrapped around her figure. Her body continued to quake. She faintly noticed the tears that rolled down her cheeks.
"Klary." The arms tightened. "What happened? Where were you?"
Words wouldn't form. Eyes refused to open. She still wasn't sure who she was with. She didn't feel safe. As she regained movement, she found herself fighting against the hold on her. Hands stuck skin. No sound came but hands grabbed hers. Held them down. She found herself lifted in the air. Carried off to wherever her captor deemed. It wasn't long before she was placed back down. The surface soft. Soon she found herself once again losing consciousness.
Awakening, Klary slowly opened here eyes. Found herself in a tube. Limbs constricted. Heart rate spiked at being enclosed. Breathing turned ragged. She thrashed, tried to escape but it was no use. Head snapped to the door as it opened. In rushed the Doctor, eyes wide as he stared at her. His expression filled with worry. He said nothing as he immediately moved to release her from what she realised was a medical pod. The moment she was released, she threw herself into his arms. Unable to hold them back, she allowed the tears to flow. Words of comfort whispered by the Doctor. His hold tightened with each sob that wracked through her. Eventually, he led Klary to her bedroom, where the two remained.
The Doctor was at the console, examining some readings when Klary emerged from her room. The moment her eyes landed on him, she rushed to his side. Needing to have him near her. Without a word, he pulled her between his arms, his chin pressed atop her head. An unconscious move as his gaze remained on the screen.
"Do you want to talk about it?" She shook her head. Eyes clenched tight as she tried to remove the thoughts assaulting her. "I'm here whenever you're ready."
"What are you looking at?" Her voice finally coming to her though thick with emotion. The feeling of something lodged within her throat remained. She managed to give a minute smile as he faced her.
"There's a signal coming from London. Was thinking of looking into it. You're welcome to remain on the Tardis."
"No!"Her cheeks heated. "I mean, I-" She looked down. Fingers fiddled with the edge of the console. "I don't want to be alone."
His eyes "All right then. Let me set in the coordinates and we'll be on our way."
The couple had followed the signal and found themselves sneaking into Henrick's. The basement was dark and barely lit. Klary's hand remained in the Doctor's as they moved through space. As they reached one of the rooms, they found an older man laying on the floor. Eyes open and mouth twisted in a grimace. The pair shared a concerned glance before they moved on. In the distance, they could hear someone calling out. Klary immediately stiffened but followed on as the Doctor went to investigate. They pulled in as the shop dummies reached Rose. As the front one went to hit her, the Doctor grabbed her hand.
"Run." The three took off, the Doctor leading them down the corridor and to an elevator. One of the dummies reached its hand through but the Doctor intercepted. He grabbed ahold of the arm and tugged until it was removed from the plastic creature. Klary reached her hand out, stopping his momentum as the arm was yanked. He shot her a grateful smile as he stood straight.
Rose's face twisted in disbelief. "You pulled his arm off!"
"Obviously," Klary's snarky response pulled the blonde's attention. Arms folded as their eyes met. Klary couldn't help the sneer that crossed her face. She was sure the Doctor was confused by her actions but Klary couldn't find it in her to care. It wasn't as if she could tell him what happened or that he could do anything about it at this time.
"Yep. Plastic." He tossed it behind him at the blonde.
Rose quickly caught the arm, a smile on her face. "Very clever. Nice trick! Who were they then, students? Is this a student thing or what?"
"Why would they be students?"
"I don't know."
"It was your suggestion. You should be able to back it up."
The Doctor placed an arm around Klary, pulling her into his arms as he addressed Rose. "Why students?"
"'Cos… to get that many people dressed up and being silly, they got to be students."
He smiled at her, fake as it was. "That makes sense. Well done."
"Thanks."
"They aren't students," Klary replied. Her gaze never strayed from the dor. She knew if she gave too much attention to Rose, she would end up snapping at the girl for something she hadn't done yet. Not that she felt it wasn't deserved. Yet with time travel, she knew better than to say anything.
"Whoever they are, when Wilson finds them, he's going to call the police."
"Who's Wilson?"
"Chief electrician."
"Wilson's dead." The elevator door slid open and the couple walked out. Klary knew Rose wasn't far behind them, shocked as she was.
"That's just not funny. That's sick!"
He grabbed ahold of Rose's shoulder and moved her to the side. "Hold on. Mind your eyes." The Doctor began to sonic the elevator controls while Klary leaned against the wall.
"I've had enough of this now." The Doctor and Klary shared a look as he disabled the lift mechanism and they moved off, leaving the blonde calling after them. "Who are you, then? Who's that lot down there? I said, who are they?"
"They're made of plastic. Living plastic creatures. They're being controlled by a relay device in the roof, which would be a great big problem if I didn't have this." He reached into his jacket pocket and held up a small bomb. And continued to move them towards the back door they had entered. "So, we're going to go upstairs and blow it up. And we might well die in the process, but don't worry about us. No, you go home. Go on. Go and have your lovely beans on toast. Don't tell anyone about this, 'cause if you do, you'll get them killed." He shut the door for a moment before he reopened it. "I'm the Doctor, by the way. This is Klary. What's your name?"
"Rose."
"Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life."
After setting up the bomb, Klary and the Doctor rushed back to the Tardis and watched as it blew up. Once done, Klary remained in a horrible mood though she refused to tell the Doctor why. Setting the ship in motion, they forwarded to the morning as there was still a signal. Rematerialising, they found themselves at the Powell Estates. The Doctor leading to where another of the signals was located.
As they reached the flat in question, Klary watched as the Doctor unscrewed the bolts in the catflap. As he worked on the last one, the catflap opened on his end. Seconds later, the door wrenched open to reveal Rose. The Doctor quickly stood, brows furrowed as he inspected her. "What're you doing here?"
"I live here."
"What do you do that for?"
"'Cause I do! I'm only at home 'cause someone blew up my job!"
He held up his sonic, inspecting the readings. "Must have got the wrong signal. You're not plastic, are you?" He tapped on her forehead. "Nope, bonehead. Bye, then!"
Rose grabbed onto his arm and dragged him in. Klary gave her an annoyed glare as she joined them. She didn't particularly appreciate to teenager manhandling him. Yet, she kept her mouth shut as she knew it was a part of the events. "You. Inside. Right now."
"Who is it?"
"It's about last night. He's part of the inquiry. Give us ten minutes."
"She deserves compensation!"
The Doctor and Klary stood at the door. Klary stood behind him and unseen. "Oh, we're talking millions."
"I'm…" Jackie cleared her throat, "in my dressing gown."
"Yes, you are."
"There's a strange man in my bedroom."
"Yes, there is."
"Well, anything could happen."
"No," the Doctor deadpanned as he grabbed Klary's hand and dragged her to the living room. The brunette quietly giggled as she waved at the oldest Tyler. She had always found that bit of conversation funny, though she noticed that unlike the show, the Doctor's voice hadn't changed in pitch at all. Much his chagrin, she continued to laugh at the interaction as they settled. With a roll of his eyes, he placed a kiss on her lips and began to look around the room.
Inside, they found Rose moving things from the sofa and onto the coffee table. A quick clean up for the two. "Don't mind the mess. Do you want a coffee?"
"Might as well, thanks. Just milk." Rose glanced over at Klary. "Nothing for Klary. She's particular."
The brunette shot him a glare, though it turned into a small smile as he kissed the top of her head.
"We should go to the police. Seriously. The three of us."
The duo ignored the blonde's words. The Doctor grabbed the gossip magazine from the coffee table and began to flip through it. "That won't last. He's gay and she's an alien."
"I'm not blaming you, even if it was just some sort of joke that went wrong."
He picked up the paperback and flipped through the pages. "Hmm. Sad ending."
"They said on the news they'd found a body."
He picked up a piece of mail. "Rose Tyler." He dropped it back onto the table and moved towards a mirror. "Ah, could've been worse." He turned to Klaty. "Lok at the ears."
"I love your ears," Klary said from beside him. A smile on her lips. " The better to hear with." As she laughed at his aghast expression, the Doctor swatted at her, pointing a not so menacing finger at her. She was sure he was bound to get back at her at some point.
"All the same, he was nice. Nice bloke."
He picked up a pack of cards and began to shuffle them. "Luck be a lady."
"Anyway, if we are going to the police, I want to know what I'm saying." The cards the Doctor held flew out of his hands. "I want you to explain everything."
"Maybe not." The duo turned to the catflap as it rattled. "What's that, then? You got a cat?" As the Doctor looked around, the Auton arm flew up and latched onto his throat. Klary rushed to his side and began to pull at the plastic arm, doing her best to help the Doctor get it off.
"No. We did have, but we just get strays. They come in off the estate." Rose walked into the room with two mugs. Her eyes glanced over the two but she just rolled her eyes. "I told Mickey to chuck that out. You're all the same. Give a man a plastic hand... Anyway, I don't even know your name. Doctor, what was it?"
"Shut the hell up and help get it off," Klary snapped. Her patience with the blonde at an all-time low, all things considered. As she and the Doctor continued to tug at the thing- with the blonde's help- it finally plopped off. In midair, it stopped and latched onto Rose's face, pushing her into the wall. The Doctor and Klary rushed over to help her, the couple tugging at it, though the latter less so. As they did, the momentum caused Rose and the Doctor to fall onto the glass coffee table, effectively breaking it. As Rose ended up on the sofa, the Doctor pulled out his sonic, set it to a frequency that stopped it, and pulled it off of Rose's face. As he held the arm, he scanned through a few more before he found the right one and fully killed it.
"It's all right, I've stopped it. There you go, you see?" He tossed it at the blonde. "Armless!"
Neither woman laughed at his joke. Rose stared at the arm. "Do you think? Her tone sharp as she hit him with the arm.
"Ow!" Klary shot an icy glare at the blonde but remained silent as she moved towards the door. She wanted to get out of the apartment as quickly as possible.
The Doctor grabbed onto Klary's hand and the two left the apartment. They made quick work of getting to the stairwell. Klary's tension slightly left her as they moved further and further away from the soon-to-be companion. She knew the girl would follow them, and was disappointed when she called out.
"Hold on a minute. You can't just go swanning off."
"Yes, we can. Here we are. This is us, swanning off. See you."
"But that arm was moving. It tried to kill me."
"Ten out of ten for observation."
"You can't just walk away. That's not fair."
"Life's not fair," Klary snapped.
Rose came to a stop. Eyes narrowed. She started to reply to Klary but seemed to think better of it and returned her attention to the Doctor. "You've got to tell me what's going on."
"No, we don't."
Outside, The Doctor and Klary made a beeline towards the Tardis. Rose refused to let up.
"All right, then. I'll go to the police. I'll tell everyone. You said, if I did that, I'd get people killed. So, your choice. Tell me, or I'll start talking."
"Is that supposed to sound tough?"
"Sort of."
"Not even close," Klary snarked the same time the Doctor said, "Doesn't work."
"Who are you?"
"Told you. The Doctor and Klary."
"Yeah, but Doctor what?"
"It's Doctor Who," Klary said, a bright smile on her lips as she looked at the man. He playfully rolled his eyes at her. Hand tightening around hers. She knew he got a kick out of it every time the question was asked.
"Just the Doctor."
"The Doctor?"
"Hello!"
"Is that supposed to sound impressive?"
"Sort of."
Rose grabbed onto his jacket but quickly released it at Klary's glare. "Come on, then. You can tell me. I've seen enough."
"You really haven't seen anything."As much as she disliked the girl, she was getting tired of being ignored. She knew she hadn't been the friendliest, and she wouldn't be, but she at least acknowledged the child. With a breath, Klary decided to let it go. She would make her comments and try to keep her safe for the Doctor's benefit but that would be all. She truly wanted nothing to do with the blonde companion. Though somewhat annoying, she was grateful for her predicament. Sure, there were things that would be better understood if she were going through his timeline at a linear pace, but the fact that she didn't have to deal with Rose constantly made things so much better.
Rose gave the brunette a look before she returned her attention to the Doctor. "Are you the police?"
"No, we were just passing through. We're a long way from home.."
"But what have I done wrong? How come those plastic things keep coming after me?"
"Oh, suddenly the entire world revolves around you. You were just an accident. You got in the way, that's all."
"It tried to kill me!"
Klary rolled her eyes. Arms folded as she once again addressed the child who attempted to murder her. "You got in the way."
"It was after me, not you," the Doctor replied with a nod. "Last night, in the shop, I was there, you blundered in, almost ruined the whole thing. This morning, I was tracking it down, it was tracking me down… The only reason it fixed on you is 'cos you've met me."
"So what you're saying is, the entire world revolves around you."
"Sort of, yeah."
"You're full of it."
"Sort of, yeah." Klary rolled her eyes at his grin. With one of her own, she pinched his side, moving away as he went to retaliate.
"But, all this plastic stuff. Who else knows about it?"
"No one."
"What, you're on your own?"
"Well, who else is there? I mean, you lot, all you do is eat chips, go to bed, and watch telly, while all the time, underneath you, there's a war going on."
"Okay." Rose snatched the hand from him. "Start from the beginning. I mean, if we're going to go with the living plastic, and I don't even believe that, but if we do, how did you kill it?"
"The thing controlling it projects life into the arm. I cut off the signal, dead."
"So that's radio control?"
"Thought control. Are you all right?"
"Yeah. So who's controlling it, then?"
"Long story."
"But what's it all for? I mean, shop window dummies, what's that about? Is someone trying to take over Britain's shops?" she joked, getting a chuckle from the Doctor.
"No."
"Well, no."
"It's not a price war. They want to overthrow the human race and destroy you. Do you believe me?"
"No."
"But you're still listening."
Klary and the Doctor continued on as Rose stopped. The brunette sighed as Rose called out. "Really, though, Doctor. Tell me… who are you?"
He stopped, turned to face her. A small smile graced his lips as he squeezed Klary's hand and let it go. "Do you know like we were saying? About the Earth revolving?" He slowly walked back over to the blonde. "It's like when you were a kid. The first time they tell you the world's turning and you just can't quite believe it because everything looks like it's standing still. I can feel it. We," he pointed to Klary, "can feel it." Klary watched as he took Rose's hand. A flash of jealousy rolled through her but quickly went away. She knew where his feelings lied, even if she was just beginning to truly acknowledge hers. "The turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour. And the entire planet is hurtling round the sun at sixty seven thousand miles an hour. And we can feel it. We're falling through space, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go…" He released her hand, letting it drop to her side. "That's who I am. Now, forget us, Rose Tyler." He grabbed the hand and waved it at her. "Go home." With that said, the Doctor wrapped an arm around Klary and the two walked across the street to the Tardis. Within moments, they had dematerialised.
Once the Tardis was set in motion, Klary padded off to to the library. As she curled up on the sofa, the Doctor walked in. As he sat beside her, he pulled her into his side. Klary couldn't help the giggle that left her and she cuddled into him. She knew he wanted something but instead of having him ask, she decided to just answer his question, unasked as it was. "That wasn't your last time seeing her."
"That so? I wasn't even going to ask."
"Yeah, right." She moved to a kneel so that she could look into his eyes. "You're more transparent than you think, hun. Especially to me."
"You've said that once or twice." His expression grim as he spoke.
"Does it bother you?"
"Not as much as it used to. When we first met, it drove me mad."
"How long was that for you?"
"Long enough." He shot her a cheeky grin. One that told her he knew she was fishing. "The same goes for you."
Klary shrugged. "Worth a shot. Now, what are we to do until we go for the signal?"
"When's the last you ate or slept?" Klary rolled her eyes at him but allowed the Doctor to pull her to her feet and lead her through the Tardis.
Klary had opted to remain in the Tardis as the Doctor went to go after the newest Consciousness copy. She watched from the screen until she was shown people rushing from the restaurant. She moved to the Tardis door, opened it, and leaned against the frame as she waited for the back door open. The moment it opened, the Doctor shot her an exasperated smile as he walked in. Klary moved towards the console, opting to sit on the jumpseat as they waited for the new companion. In her mind's eye, she watched (and heard) Rose called out to him and run towards the locked gates. Finally, she ran in, eyes wide at the sight, then out before finally back in and remaining.
"It's going to follow us!"
"The assembled hordes of Genghis Khan couldn't get through that door. Believe me, they've tried! Now, shut up a minute." He started to work the console and head. Plugging the head in. "You see, the arm was too simple, but the head's perfect. I can use it to trace the signal back to the original source." Work finished, he went to stand in front of her, hands in his pockets and throwing on an air of nonchalance. Klary knew better, seeing the tension others wouldn't. Still, she remained in her seat. "Right. Where do you want to start?"
"Um…the inside's bigger than the outside."
"Yes."
"It's alien."
"Yep."
"Are you alien?"
"Yes. Is that all right?"
"Yeah."
"It's called the Tardis, this thing. S. That's Time And Relative Dimension In Space." Rose burst into tears. The Doctor glanced at Klary, an uncomfortable expression on his face. "That's okay. Culture shock. Happens to the best of us."
"Not the reason," Klary murmured. He shot her a confused glance but before she could tell him, Rose spoke up.
"Did they kill him? Mickey? Did they kill Mickey? Is he dead?"
"Oh. I didn't think of that."
"He's my boyfriend. You pulled off his head. They copied him and you didn't even think? And now you're just going to let him melt?"
"Melt?" He turned to the console and found that the plastic head was indeed melting. "Oh, no, no, no, no, no!" In a rush, he began to set the Tardis to follow the weakening signal.
"What're you doing?"
"Following the signal. It's fading! Wait a minute, I've got it. No, no, no, no, no, no, no!" Klary continued to watch as he rushed around the console, her gaze occasionally straying to Rose as the Tardis moved. "Almost there. Almost there. Here we go!" The Tardis landed and he rushed towards the door. Klary jumped to her feet and followed right behind him.
"You can't go out there. It's not safe!"
Out on the street, they saw they were on the north back of the Thames, right next to the RAF monument. "I've lost the signal. I got so close."
Klary placed a hand on his arm. "You got closer than you think, hun." His gaze met hers before he nodded and moved to lean on the railing.
"We've moved. Does it fly?"
"Disappears there and reappears here. You wouldn't understand."
"If we're somewhere else, what about that headless thing? It's still on the loose."
"It melted with the head. Are you going to witter on all night?"
"I'll have to tell his mother."Rose glanced at the Doctor, face contorted in disbelief as she realised the Doctor had once again forgotten about him. "Mickey… I'll have to tell his mother he's dead, and you just went and forgot him, again! You were right, you are alien."
"Look, if I did forget some kid called Mickey-"
"Yeah, he's not a kid."
"It's because I'm trying to save the life of every stupid ape blundering on top of this planet, all right?"
"All right."
"Yes, it is!"Klary rolled her eyes at the two but remained silent. This was one thing she wouldn't be getting in the middle of. Her gaze remained on the lights that shone in the distance.
"If you're an alien, how come you sound like you're from the North?"
"Lots of planets have a north!"
"And you're American?"
Klary glanced over, eyes meeting the Rose's. "Yeah," she replied with a shrug.
"What's a police public call box?"
"It's a telephone box, from the 1950s. It's a disguise."
"Okay... And this, this living plastic. What's it got against us?"
"Nothing. It loves you. You've got such a good planet. Lots of smoke and oil, plenty of toxins and dioxins in the air. Perfect. Just what the Nestene Consciousness needs. Its food stock was destroyed in the war. All its protein plants rotted. So Earth, dinner!"
"Any way of stopping it?"
The Doctor reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a tube of blue liquid. "Antiplastic."
"Antiplastic."
"Antiplastic. But first, I've got to find it. How can you hide something that big in a city this small?"
"Hold on. Hide what?"
"The transmitter. The Consciousness is controlling every single piece of plastic, so it needs a transmitter to boost the signal."
"What's it look like?"
"Like a transmitter! Round and massive, slap bang in the middle of London. A huge circular metal structure like a dish, like a wheel. Radial. Close to where we're standing. Must be completely invisible. What? What?" As the Doctor turned, Klary watched as Rose stared at the London Eye. "What?" At Rose's nod, he turned around. The penny still in the air. "What is it? What?" The entire time, Rose's gaze remained on the Eye, with the Doctor turning to look between the women and the ferris wheel.
"Really look, hun."
Finally, the Doctor seemed to realise what had been pointed out. His eyes widened as it all came to him. "Oh. Fantastic!" He gripped onto Klary's hand and dragged her across the Westminster Bridge. On the other side, the trio stopped, the Doctor glancing around. "Think of it, plastic all over the world, every artificial thing waiting to come alive. The shop window dummies, the phones, the wires, the cables-"
"The breast implants," Rose interjected, gaining a small amused smile from the Time Lord.
"Still, we've found the transmitter. The Consciousness must be somewhere underneath."
Rose moved off, looked over the side of the parapet and found a manhole. "What about down here?"
The couple went over to take a look. The Doctor gave a quick smile. "Looks good to me."
After opening the manhole and climbing down the short ladder, the three walked through the narrow tunnel and down a flight of stairs until they reached a multilevel chamber. "The Nestene Consciousness. That's it, inside the vat. A living plastic creature."
"Well, then, tip in your anti-plastic and let's go."
"Killing is never the first option," the brunette snapped, rolling her eyes at the suggestion. Sure the bad guys usually ended up dead, but killing was never the Doctor's first choice. He always gave them a chance. It was one of the many things Klary loved about each incarnation. The one thing that never changed. For all 12's bluster, he was a good person despite all the faults. It was something Rose would learn for herself.
"I've got to give it a chance." Klary walked by the Doctor's side as he moved to the catwalk overlooking the seething vat. "I seek audience with the Nestene Consciousness under peaceful contract according to Convention 15 of the Shadow Proclamation." The Consciousness flexed. Movements fluid as it growled. "Thank you. If I might have permission to approach?" With another growl, the Doctor approached.
Klary paid little mind as Rose rushed over to a terrified Mickey and called out to the Doctor. She remained on the railing watching as the Doctor eventually went to approach the creature. "Am I addressing the Consciousness?" He gave it a moment to respond. "Thank you. If I might observe, you infiltrated this civilisation by means of warp shunt technology. So, may I suggest, with the greatest respect, that you shunt off?" She watched as an angry face formed. Low growls and grumbled emitted as it addressed the Doctor. "Oh, don't give me that! It's an invasion, plain and simple. Don't talk about constitutional rights." The Consciousness once again growled. "I am talking!" A shiver ran down Klary's spine as the Doctor raised his voice. It wasn't so much that the volume bothered her, but that she found it insanely sexy. She loved when every incarnation flexed their authority. And after her moment with 11, she found herself wondering just how close she was with the others. Her current Doctor being one that she was most curious about. "This planet is just starting. These stupid little people have only just learnt how to walk, but they're capable of so much more. I'm asking you on their behalf. Please, just go."
"Hun!" Klary called out as shop dummies came up behind the Doctor. Two grabbed onto him. One reached into his jacket and pulled out the vial of anti-plastic.
"That was just insurance. I wasn't going to use it." The Consciousness' growls angrier than before. "I was not attacking you. I'm here to help. I'm not your enemy. I swear, I'm not." The creature growled once more. "What do you mean?" A door near the two humans slid open to reveal the Tardis. "No. Oh, no. Honestly, no! Yes, that's my ship." It said something again, panic continuing to course through the Doctor as he struggled against the mannequins. "That's not true. I should know, I was there. I fought in the war. It wasn't my fault. I couldn't save your world! I couldn't save any of them!"
"What's it doing?"
"It's the Tardis! The Nestene's identified its superior technology. It's terrified! It's going to the final base. It's starting the invasion! Get out, Rose! Just leg it, now!"
Instead of listening to the Doctor, Rose pulled out her phone. Rolling her eyes, Klary returned her attention to the scene before her. Eyes met the Doctor's. A desperate gleam within his. Klary was sure her eyes mirrored his. Their eyes on each other, she watched as his expression turned to horror. Realising that he had seen something within her gaze, she shot him a small smile and rushed down the stairs as the activation signal was transmitted. Momentum high, she launched herself at the dummy holding the anti-plastic. It wobbled, releasing the Doctor before it fell into the pit. Her own dive stopped as the Doctor wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into him.
"Now we're in trouble," he said with a grin as he pulled her up towards the Tardis. They rushed up the stairs as explosions rocked the room. He quickly unlocked the Tardis' door and hustled everyone inside. It was a mad dash around the console before they materialised on the embankment. The moment it was safe, Mickey rushed out and hid behind a broken pallet.
Klary and the Doctor watched as Rose followed after her boyfriend and pulled out her phone. The Doctor and Klary shared an annoyed glance as they slowly followed. The Doctor leaned against the door, pulling Klary into him, arms wrapped around her waist as they observed the two. The pair watched as she hung up and went to Mickey's side.
"Fat lot of good you were."
"Nestene Consciousness? Easy."
"You were useless in there. You'd be dead if it wasn't for Klary."
"The story of our life." He kissed the top of the brunette's head. "Right then, we'll be off." He moved his head to the side and glanced at the brunette. At her shrug, he clapped his hands together. "Unless… I don't know, you could come with us. This box isn't just a London hopper, you know. It goes anywhere in the universe free of charge."
"Don't. He's an alien. He's a thing."
"And that is incredibly rude, Mickey Smith."
The boy had the decency to at least look ashamed. Before he could apologise though, the Doctor spoke up. "He's not invited. What do you think? You could stay here. Fill your life with work and food and sleep, or you could go… anywhere."
"Is it always this dangerous?"
"Yeah."
Mickey scrambled to Rose's side. Arms wrapped around her legs as if he could keep her there. Klary couldn't help the pity that crossed her features but she did her best to erase it as quickly as it came. "Yeah, I can't. I've… I've got to go and find my mum and someone's got to look after this stupid lump, so…"
"Okay. See you around." With that, the couple walked into the Tardis and the Doctor began to set coordinates. As he finished, he faced Klary. "Now, onto what happened to you."
Hey hey! Thanks so much for the well wishes, understanding, and patience. I know Hold Me Down hasn't been updated since August, which is an incredibly long time. I appreciate all of your reviews and am so happy I am able to get this chapter out to you.
AliceCullen3: I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
Aryabloodlust: I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sorry it took a while to update. I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
savethemadscientist: Yeah, Rose is kinda a bitch lol. Rose was really the worst in this chapter. I'm also trying to add more snippets of her life prior to ending up with the Doctor, though this chapter didn't really give much. I will say Klary wasn't strapped in when it happened. And the Doctor will be raining hell when he does find out. Jenny was 100% alluding to this situation and she's definitely going to get hers the next time she pops up. How soon that will be, who knows ;)
Ezras Writing: Rose will definitely be dealt with. It all just depends on when Klary decides to tell the Doctor. I really am glad you enjoyed the chapter though. I hope you like this one as well, even if it was somewhat of a torture for Klary.
Slayer76: Yeah... I had always planned for this to happen. In my other fic, Rose and my MC were besties but I wanted to do something different and it seemed the trajectory considering how their relationship's been since the start. I definitely intend for there to be some repercussions to Rose's murder attempt.
