The Promised Field - Chapter One

By TheAverageFrontier

Location - Red Chamber's Escape Pod

Jun Lee looked on as the Red Chamber exploded. His heart sank to his feet, that ship had been his home for over 3 years and now it was gone. Nothing left of it besides mangled debris. Jun decided to look away from the window, back to important matters. Eda and Remi lay tied to the metal support beams in the room, he had done this so they wouldn't be flung in the momentum of launching off of the Red Chamber. Jun reached into his pocket and pulled out a cloth with the Red Chamber's flower insignia on it as he wiped the sweat off his forehead. He had somehow convinced Eda to come to the escape pod instead of sacrificing herself, and through a miracle she had made it in time. "Good Lumen" he said under his breath

Jun knew how much Eda wanted to find her master. He knew it hurt her to leave when they are so close. He just couldn't stand the thought of losing Eda. The two had grown rather close the past 3 years and the young Oceaner had to admit that he was quite fond of her. They'd surely have another chance to find Red, no matter how long it took for Phoenix to orbit back into a reasonable distance. Jun quickly checked the two girls over, tending to any wound they had the best he could and eventually sitting down with his back against one of the wooden crates in what was the cargo bay of the Red Chamber. Jun felt his eyes get heavy as he drifted off to sleep, the recent events had worn him down badly and the adrenaline had worn off. He finally succumbed to the desire to sleep as his head tilted downward and he dozed off.

"JUST BE YOURSELF!"

"Master!" Eda sprang awake as she quickly looked around, noticing Remi still out of it beside her and Jun slumped over against a crate. She remembered now, Jun had talked her out of sacrificing herself and leaving him and Remi. By some stroke of luck she had barely made it to the escape pod, she looked down at the burn spots in her clothing and the charred spots on her shoes. She also happened to notice the bandages wrapped around the burn injuries she had sustained.

"Jun…." Eda looked over to the sleeping Jun, he was visibly drained from everything that had transpired. She felt terrible for putting him through this. It was her fault that he had gotten wrapped up in all of this anyways. From the incident with Bones to them almost dying in the tomb trap on Banshee, she always seemed to be getting him into perilous predicaments.

And then Remi…

She had put Remi through the same things, various stressful situations, potentially fatal encounters.

"I'm a terrible captain ... .and an awful friend" Eda began to tear up. It was all too much for her to think about at the moment. She hugged her knees as she began to sob.

This continued on for several minutes until Eda felt herself taken up into someone's arms. She opened her eyes to realize that Jun had awoken and embraced her. All she could do right now was wrap her arms around him and return the embrace, she cried into his shoulder as he silently patted her back, trying to console her the best he could.
