Hello! And welcome to the reboot of the "Book of Battles!"

This is exactly what it sounds like. A reboot. A minor re-write of an older story I already had on my profile. Now, I'm here to just… re-arrange it, really.

And establish a better foundation/background for the story, as well.

Smite's had some exciting news recently. Smite 2! And that's kicked me right back into this game and its great concepts and characters. So, why not write some fun stuff for it again!

DISCLAIMER:

The power of the Gods depicted in this story are not completely identical to what is seen in-game. Though they share resemblance, the strength, abilities, and power-levels of most featured Smite characters have been scaled-up and dramatized for your viewing pleasure.

Additionally, take note of the story's tags. Humor, parody, adventure! This story's Alternative Universe, or AU, is mostly light-hearted and can be equated to Smite's sillier atmosphere in the real world.

If you were expecting a brutal, gritty fic… I am sorry to disappoint you. That's not what this is.

But who knows, maybe I'll write one someday.

Until then, enjoy the exposition of… the Book of Battles!

Chapter 1 - A New World

Long gone were the days of conflict that ravaged planet Earth- or… Terra, or Gaia, as some others called it. It depended, really, from place to place. The many nations and their respective pantheons had different names for different things. That was just how the world spun. And it spun much smoother without their many deities and divine figures at each other's throats.

The world was more "civilized" now, and it had been that way for quite some time. Although it took many a century for it to get to that point. Cultures, customs, ways of life, dozens upon dozens of societal standards, so much had changed over time.

And the Gods had been there to bear witness to it all.

Even today, they still ruled over their respective civilizations, even if they had become a much less predominant force with the way the world functioned. Mortals had come to prove themselves troublesome time and time again, and that would never change. However, it was impressive to see what they were capable of whenever they were able to set their differences aside and work together.

Expanding their civilizations.

Building massive structures and cities.

Interconnecting the world with technology.

Flying to the moon, impressing deities like Awilix, Tsukuyomi, and Chang'e!

Although, it was a bit of a rude awakening, since… Chang'e had a Moon Palace, and when mortal astronauts came knocking on its door asking for autographs, she wasn't that impressed.

Regardless, humanity had managed to come extremely far as the Gods slowly settled their quarrels over time.

In ancient times, their wars dictated the direction of the world. Their battles had the destructive potential to shatter continents, destroy civilizations, and on the greater scale of things, threatened to destroy the world.

But over time, the Gods learned, even the more stubborn ones. That without mortals… they'd have no power. In some strange way, Gods and mortals needed one another.

So it'd be better to preserve the life of the world they all shared, instead of destroying it in the process of trying to control it all.

After many years of fighting… eventually, it all stopped. And the world was permitted to move forward.

From the ancient times to what would be known as the years After Darkness, or AD. The 'darkness' being the shroud of war, desolation, death, and misery that the Gods brought upon the world with their fighting.

The years prior to that would come to be categorized as Before the Calm, or BC. The calm being… the newfound peace, or at least… relative peace between the pantheons.

Mortals were allowed to make their own decisions. They had their own conflicts. The Gods agreed that many of them were not permitted to assist in the wars of the mortals. Many other regulations were put in place and agreed upon by them, and so far… it had proved useful.

Nowadays, after over two thousand years, humanity marches onward… and the Gods remain ever after as pillars of guidance and reverence.

The Arena was formed, where the Gods were solidified in their statuses, not just as divine and mythical beings, but also as celebrities. A new way to gain worship and prestige, without the need for things like death, tyranny, or fearmongering. Different game-modes and battle arenas were created, to keep things fresh for those privileged enough to watch.

It was a good system. And it helped bring Gods and mortals together.

This was not to say that real battles were uncommon. Many of the Gods still did not like one another. And the occasional quarrel would still occur.

And of course, as new Gods and divine beings came to reveal themselves, some to protect the world, others to destroy it… some true conflicts did come to jeopardize the peace that had come to be established.

But unlike the BC years, the Gods no longer stubbornly opposed one another. Instead, most worked together to preserve the global society that both them and the mortals had worked together to create.

Nefarious plots would not succeed.

Takeovers would be stuffed out.

Conquerors would be put in their place.

Humanity could defend itself.

The years After Darkness were ones of progress, peace, and competition.

And so it would be. At least for now.

A short and hopefully concise introduction to the modern, light-hearted world that this story will take place in. Think of it like what the world would be if the Gods existed in real life! But weren't total dicks, at least not anymore.

After all, Smite takes place in ancient times, canonically speaking. Here? It's been a long, long time since then.

This AU is for fun and adventure! And for me to post whatever I want about Smite without having to worry about staying consistent with a storyline.

Hopefully these little chapters will be fun to read! The next TWO will be re-writes of older chapters, but afterwards… it's all new.

To whoever still may be reading Smite fanfiction… stay tuned!
